This lavish coverage of the 1800s artist explores the range of Daumier's achievements, examining his success as a political and social satirist and examining his lithographs for political content as much as artistic expression. This provides the catalog for an exhibition of his work but stands well alone as a definitive survey of his craft.

Wonderfully reproduced plates at a bargain price
This was a good book both in terms of quality and the price. Many art books become prohibitively expensive when the focus is on one particular artist. The book includes a well written bio on Daumier and descriptions of the plates for those who cannot read French. Still, one weakness that I found was the failure to include some of the most famous pieces. It was almost as if they had simply been forgotten to be inserted- they are even referenced in the biography!

To conclude, if you want one book that has all that Daumier had to offer this one isn't for you. However, if you would like to own some of it in a nicely presented package without spending more than $15 with shipping (that's amazing) then buy this book! ... Read more
