Book Description

Despite all the tragic political entanglements of the 20th century, it was still a century of significant spiritual awakening. Never before in the history of mankind has the general population had access to such a vast spiritual knowledge; never before were there so many inspired teachers known to us, both in the East and the West. These teachers are a major force behind the much-cited paradigm shift. Their teachings and their lives stand as models for generations to come.

To outline their unusual lives, and to preserve their most important teachings, we are building a literary monument to them in the form of a series of books: Those Who Light the Way. This is not for the purpose of worship, but to provide a means of orientation. According to old Eastern wisdom, "A true guru is like a signpost. You read its message and go on. Who would be so stupid as to worship the signpost?"

The first in the series is dedicated to the religious leader of Tibetan Buddhists and the head of the Tibetan government in exile. Born in 1935 in the province of Amdo in Eastern Tibet, he is the one person in this series whose path has been most shaped by the political events of the 20th century. This book explains who he is, his impact on the West in particular, and what his lasting message for the world might be. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this is THE dylan biography
This book is by far the BEST Dylan biography out there! Its way better than Marsh's Glory Days (which - for some reason seems to be more about Springsteen than Dylan!). Just get it! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good info, lame effort
Durso writes like he was the only person who knew DiMaggio. He disgraces colleagues and friends in the attempt to make his relationship with DiMaggio look better. While the info within this book was good, it does not do justice to the life of the American icon, Joseph Paul DiMaggio. While this book is a decent effort, Richard Ben Cramer's "Joe DiMaggio: A Hero's Life" looks to be the better read. The one part I did enjoy was the information on DiMaggio's lawyer Morris Engelberg and his law office's campus HQ in Hollywood, FL where Yankee Clipper Enterprises is run. Decent book overall, but too much reptitiveness and not enough new info.

1-0 out of 5 stars Any Joe DiMaggio fan would be pleased by this book.
As a lifelong baseball fan and Joe DiMaggio fan, I was most pleased by this book. The book moves along well and tells the Yankee Clipper story from the viewpoint of someone who knows his subject well. I believe any fan of DiMaggio and his era of baseball will thoroughly enjoy this work. I have read many DiMaggio books and this one is as good as any. I recommend it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, But No Hitting Streak
A reasonable effort, but surely there must be more out there on this American Icon. I learned some interesting tidbits about Joe and his penchant for hitting streaks. Outside of that, not much else that you could not find out on your own with a few minutes of research. True, Joe Dimaggio is a serious recluse, but the information on him is all there in black and white. I never got a true sense for seasons or accomplishments. Joseph Durso was just all over the place with this effort. To write about Joe Dimaggio, you have to write with love and passion for the man and the game. I just never got that feeling reading this book. It was like reading a racing form. Interesting facts, but not great reading. ... Read more
