5-0 out of 5 stars AND HERE THEY ARE, THE BEATLES!
This is a book I would have LOVED to have owned as a child. This is a book I love NOW! Glassman does an excellent job of presenting the Beatles to a younger audience and his clear writing style compliments the intelligence of his readers.

The photographs are superb, as is the (I think) world's number one song writing duo, Lennon & McCartney, half of the world's number one band, THE BEATLES! This is such a treat to read. It's just what the doctor ordered and is just so much fun. Don't be surprised if you shake your bangs and start singing Beatle tunes.

I give this a round of thunderous applause and a hearty YEAH, YEAH, YEAH! I love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars John Lennon & Paul McCartney their magic and thier music
"John Lennon & Paul McCartney their magic and thier music" by Bruce Glassman is a great book. I found it very hard to put it down ,because it was a great reference to learn how The Beatles were formed ,by two great song writers. There is also a lot of information on were they grew up and what happend to them in their childhood. You can also find out what pushed Paul McCartney and John lennon to write the music that change the music world. So if you ever want to read a book to find out how PoP music started. I recommend that you read "John Lennon & Paul McCartney their magic and thier music."

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is great, has good pictures and interviews.
I couldn't put the book down. I read it from cover to cover without a single stop. Glassman did a good job at putting this one together. Of course almost anything you write about The Beatles will be great though. ... Read more

About The Awful

I was bored on the 9th of Octover 1940 when, I believe, the Nasties were still booming us led byMadolf Heatlump (who only had one). Anyway they didn't get me. I attended to varicous schools in Liddypol. And still didn't pass -- much to my Aunties supplies. As a member of the most publified Beatles my (P, G, and R's) records might seem funnier to some of you than this book, but as far as I'm conceived this correction of short writty is the most wonderfoul larf I've every ready.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strangely Hilarious
Yes, this is an odd book. Some of the entries were very funny, some very odd, and some were really quite disturbing. However, despite being put off by some of the stories, I did thoroughly enjoy the way Lennon wrote. The play on words were especially humurous if very hard to interpret at times.

This book may not be for those who enjoy traditional comedy, but it's certainly worth a read if you're looking for something new. The complete randomness and, well, weirdness of Lennon's style (and, perhaps, mind) are very intriguing, whether you find it funny or not.

The introduction by Yoko Ono is also worth a look at (it's a little suprising, but oddly thought-provoking).

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a good "larf"
I love The Beatles and I love nonsense so this was a perfect match. When you feel you've been thinking too much for one day this is the book to read it is just pure fun. The little short stories just make you giggle even if you're one of those people who never laughs when reading. This book also makes John Lennon seem more human since he has become this legend you get to see this silly but still genius side to him. Just a warning don't try making sense of this book it will just give you a headache just read it for kicks. To quote dear Mr.Lennon "this correction of short writty is the most wonderfoul larf I've ever ready."

5-0 out of 5 stars Has no Beatles fan ever heard of Finnegans Wake?
Lennon's book (and its companion volume "A Spaniard in the Works") is as funny today as when I first read it in 1967. However, in the 37 customer reviews posted on this book at Amazon, not one single reader had the smarts to note that the punning style of Lennon's prose in these two books is borrowed directly from James Joyce, particularly from "Finnegans Wake." Are Lennon's Joycean puns a mere coincidence or did Lennon as a schoolboy (or even after school as a reader) encounter Joyce's work? The similarity borders on plagiarism. I'm not knocking Lennon, I think his book is terrific. But it is a distressing comment on the state of modern readership and education that not one single Amazon customer reviewer even mentioned Joyce. Hey, you can like rock and like the Beatles and still be aware of great literature! This is a parable of the illiteracy endemic to the post-sex, drugs, and rock and roll era. I give Lennon's book five stars. But I would give all 37 readers failing grades.

4-0 out of 5 stars what did you expect?
If you like Lennon, you'll like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blown Away
An absolutely magnificent peice of literature! The use of language is witty and funny and I have never experienced such joy from a collection of short stories before. The ''Is He Deep?'' introduction set the mood of the bok and that question played on mind throughout the entire read. Fantastic ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating reading! Jill Wellington, author of "Fireworks"
If you pick up All You Need is Love, make sure you have lots of time to read because you won't be able to put it down until the final stone is turned. Author Jewelle St. James takes the reader along on her enchanting odyssey to uncover the truth about her past life with famed Beatle, John Lennon.

You will feel like you are along for the ride as she ventures to England to uncover ancient birth records, and discover secrets long hidden in the tiny town of Petworth. The written documents are incredible proof, but the coincidences that led her to discover her love connection with Lennon makes for fascinating reading.

The story unfolds deliciously, always keeping the reader in suspense until each new discovery. Even those who don't believe in reincarnation will have to reconsider after they read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing and Convincing - I Was Skeptical At First
"So you think you've lived a past life with John Lennon?", my husband, Bob, would ask. Sensible, level-headed Bob. I would answer his questions with my usual question, "Well, can you explain any of this?" I always hoped he could explain because I certainly couldn't. I hoped someone, anyone, could explain. But a past life with John Lennon? I'll let you be the judge. It all started December 9, 1980, the day after John Lennon was shot... --From the book All You Need Is Love, the incredible true story of one woman's search, discovering her past life with John Lennon.

I admit to being suspicious when I first picked up All You Need Is Love. I mean, anyone can claim to be the lover of a former Beatle in a past life, right? Interestingly, four years after she began inexplicably grieving at the death of John Lennon, author Jewelle St. James felt the same way: she was ready to hear answers about a past life with John Lennon if she could prove it.

Jewelle is from a small, mountainous Canadian town called Revelstoke, which is in British Columbia. Far from the busy world New York City where John Lennon was fatally shot, she nevertheless felt a penetrating ache of loss and even desperation when she heard the news of his death. Perhaps such feelings could be chalked up to the grief of a fan but, interestingly, Jewelle had no interest in the Beatles at the time.

The following day, her local paper featured an article by a traveling evangelist with the headline John Lennon: Was He Really So Great? The minister went on to say that John would spend eternity in hell, and that his upcoming sermon would be about the dangers of rock and roll. Jewelle had a strong reaction to this article, and immediately fired off a letter to the editor-something very out of character for her.

Over the next three years, Jewelle lived with her intense grief-confused and frustrated as to why she felt this strong connection to John Lennon. She bought a copy of the Imagine album, having never before heard it. When she listened to the song Jealous Guy, she experienced a vivid recollection of an ancient milestone nestled in rich green grass, the darkened granite reading "...miles to London".

Jewelle finally decided to confide in her Mom, who was spiritually minded...even psychic. Her sister Konni, also clairvoyant, helped clarify the details that their Mom had imparted.

All You Need Is Love follows Jewelle as she deals with confusion, frustration, hope, and determination-all while she attempts to track down the validity of the names, dates, and places she received from her Mom, her clairvoyant sister, psychics, a past life regression and her own channeled writing history. The story of Catherine James and John Baron is compelling-part mystery, and part romance. But underscoring this amazing tale is the experience of past lives: how their patterns often repeat throughout many lifetimes, how unfinished past-life business creeps into the present, and how one can actually heal emotional wounds and unconscious patterns by discovering elements of past lives.

The reader is taken along a fascinating journey with Jewelle as she researches genealogy and Sussex history, visiting England several times and having information confirmed. Weaved throughout her search is the tale of Catherine, son of a merchant, and her lover John Baron-a kindly young man of ill-health. We dance along with Catherine and John in the Great Hall, and trudge along in the thick mud with Catherine as she walks to the hospital to tend to the sick. We grieve with Catherine as she loses her beloved, and must then endure her cruel Aunt Agatha, who ends up drugging her with laudanum as a "cure" for her grief.

Jewelle's story is one of healing and hope-reconciling unfinished business of the past and moving on with a sense of purpose. And, as John would say, with a sense of love-for all you truly need is love.

After reading this book, I'm interested in finding out about my own past lives-something I've not even begun to look into. I highly recommend this engrossing and well-documented story of one woman's search for answers--and what that journey has brought to her present life thus far.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing journey that makes you believe in reincarnation..
Of all the books I have read about reincarnation, All You Need Is Love By Jewelle St. James gave me the proof I needed that, in fact, past lives are posible. This is a story of an ordinary woman who experienced unexplained grief after the passing of John Lennon. After three years of constantly thinking of him and buying anything and everything having to do with John and the Beatles, she decided she would try to explore these urges. Her mother and sister, who posessed psychic abilities, along with other psychics and mediums, began to help her piece together a story of love that ended tragicly and quickly. She was given two names, Katherine James and John Baron, along with several dates and different locations is England. Without telling the psychics who she was searching for, almost all of them told her that John Baron and John Lennon were the same soul! But Jewelle wanted more...she wanted proof. She spend many hours in libraries and on the phone, comparing facts with her given messages. She was able to find a Katherine James and a John Baron...in one of the years and towns she was given! After years of searching for proof and having regressions, she finally went to England to only discover a beautiful love story that has spanned the centuries.

Not only is this a beautiful and well written book, you can literally feel yourself with Jewelle as she shares this amazing story. Even if her past love was not John Lennon, this would still make make you think twice about reincarnation. This book would be an excellent guidline on how to discover your own past life. I only ask you to read this with an open mind and heart and you will be plesantly surprised. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars LENNON AT LAST!
Here is John Lennon the poet, composer, humorist and humanitarian, and, oh yes, Beatle. These interviews are indeed lost treasures from an author who obviously knows and loves his subject. Congrats to Mr. Giuliano for offering these rare gems to an ever Beatles hungry world. Packed, too, with dozens of unseen photgraphs.

2-0 out of 5 stars At least these are with the actual subject...
Geoffrey Giuliano must be suffering writers' block. Or else he just prefers to not do much heavy-lifting, because once again this so-called, self-appointed "expert" has tossed out another slap-dash collection of common old interviews.

Isn't it nice that a clerk can make such a good living?

5-0 out of 5 stars Lennon Like You Have Never Seen Him
Believe me, when they say these interviews are lost, it is no lie! I have been ready Beatles books for years and many authors just seem to cut and paste their books together with no thought of orginality, or rarity. Geoffrey Giuliano however is the exception packing this book with interviews I bet John Lennon himself has never seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lennon the Peace lover
Lennon and Yoko's lost interviews it should be more like. This is a great book with many interviews with john and yoko in their bed-in's etc. In this book it shows john's humorous side, whitty side and of course his deepness. I loved the clippings of the news in the beginnning of the book and learned things i didn't know (like yoko was to divorce john before he died. though it sounded like tabloid talk it probably was real) I love interviews with john because we get to know the real him and learn a lot about him. This was really a great book and it did have good pictures in them most of them unpublished.
A really, really GREAT interview book (besides this) I MUST recommend is The Playboy Interviews With John Lennon and Yoko Ono. That is really the best interview book out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Packed full of info on the great John Lennon
This book was real good and thorough especially when talking about John and Yoko's peace campaign and bed-ins. Through this book I found a lot of information I have never heard before which is hard to find in many books on John. However, the only problem I have is the author seems to make clear his dislike of Yoko and it is upsetting. He includes his own digs at her as well as others he interviews throughout the book. But all in all it is great for all Lennon fans, with good never before seen photos. ... Read more

Book Description

"Yesterday" was recorded more than thirty-five years ago at the peak of the Beatles' triumphs and is the most recorded song ever. An astonishing 2,500 versions of McCartney's prized signature song have been made. Focusing on "Yesterday" and the era in which it was created, author Ray Coleman, who was close to the Beatles' story from the start, draws a fresh portrait of McCartney, then and now. In candid interviews McCartney discusses his rich and often mercurial relationship with John Lennon and a wide range of subjects. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting & Informative, But Not Unbiased
As with all of Ray Coleman's books, this one is accurate and informative, but somewhat irritating in its obvious adoration of McCartney. Still a definitive account of the history of one of the most famous songs of all time. Also, it includes a comprehensive account of how Paul McCartney lost the chance to get the rights to the Lennon/McCartney songs when he was outbid by a former collaborator, Michael Jackson. A must-read for any Beatles fan, for this information if for nothing else.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment
After reading other Coleman books I expected to read something new and informative about Paul McCartney. Instead I was spoonfed a repetitive and boring story of the development of the song "Yesterday". Pass on this one - it's definitely not worth the money. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad-
Green's book is a little different from the others trying to "cash" in on Lennon. His account is a benign one that doesn't offer up startling negative images for the public to gulp down. It really reads as if he's just trying to relate his "memories" of John- memories which do not really say anything new- everything here Lennon has hinted at or said in interviews before his death. Also, Green admits it's a definitive portrait, that John could have acted totally different away from him. his biggest problem is that he uses extensive conversations in quotes that anyone knows he could not possibly have remembered, but even there, he says he doesn't say it's verbatim, he's just recreating an "essence" - so as long as you put all of that in the forefront of your mind while you read it- it's enjoyable- Lennon seems clever, funny, compelling, and as I said, there's nothing here that John hasn't already revealed about the way he was.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lennon and Yoko Unveiled
I'm not quite sure why previous reviews have been so low.
I have read many Lennon bios, Goldman, Seaman, May Pang, Ray Coleman, Giuliano.
I find that this bio is quite refreshing, in that John Green seems to be a person who did not yield before the 'John and Yoko' force...he seems to have held his own, and wasn't afraid to face up to them. It seems that Yoko was almost 'beholden' to Green, and that he was a person she (and John) would not try to beat down with her (their) relentless quirks. This is a clear and cleverly written account of John's last five or so years. There are intriguing accounts of Yoko's obsession with a South American witch (ending, in this book, with a kinda hysterical discussion of Yoko's wondering if she was signing a pact with the Devil, only to beg Green to sign his own name, to which he later replied, 'My name, Yoko? no, I signed YOUR name!').
Another account that stands out is John's visit to a 'new-age' (in 21st century terms, remember this was the early 70s) store, in search of proper ceremonial objects for his and Yoko's renewal of their wedding vows. John's sarcastic response to the store's solemn owners made me laugh out loud. I think Green did a very good job of showing Lennon's various sides...from the witty, sarcastic (public-loving) John, to the emotionally crippled, loner, stay-in-bed til I wither, side. The most revealing aspect of the book (and this can be confirmed by May Pang's book 'Loving John') is that Green kept trying to get John to really take responsibility for his life...he kept telling him that he could really do something, make music, be alive, if only he'd take responsibility for it. And, alas, it seems that John chose to wallow in paranoia and nothingness for too long...
all we have left is the legacy he left us when he started back to work in the early 80's...
all in all, this book is a definite must-read for Lennon fans who truly want to know what went on during the post 'Lost-Weekend' (a myth in itself, see May Pang's book) period.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another cash-in rip-off
I've read numerous books on John Lennon and this ranks among the worst. It is just another cash-in rip-off in the line of Albert Goldman, Fred Seaman etc. Green wants to convince the reader he had a very close relationship with Lennon, could see inside his head, and pretends to remember their discussions accurately, word by word. He depicts Lennon and Ono as completely unbalanced, insecure, restless, child-like characters who never knew what they really wanted. And of course, the tarot-card reader Green was always there to give wise, fatherly advice so that those two poor creatures wouldn't have messed up their lives completely. If you really want to understand Lennon to the extent it is possible, I suggest you read Anthony Elliott's excellent psychological analysis "The Mourning of John Lennon".

3-0 out of 5 stars Memoir of John Lennon by former employee
If you consider the source and the inherently self-serving nature of books like this, you will find some valuable information here on the last years of John Lennon's life. Green's central contention is that Lennon's withdrawal from public view until just before his death was due to a severe form of writer's block and not any desire to be a "househusband," which sounds plausible enough. The chapter on Paul McCartney's pot bust in Japan has some instructive information, and Green's general tone is moderate and free from now-it-can-be-told sensationalism in the Albert Goldman manner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lennon's Life-from the eyes of his tarot card reader
John Lennon was a very intriguing man, but most people do not know about all of the many events that happened with his career, as well as his personal life. John Green knew what was going on inside Lennon's head. This book clearly describes incidents in his life that many of his fans never knew. John Green wrote this book in order that people could get to know the real John Lennon, although he is now dead. The book started out about four or five years before John Lennon's death, and the book ended just after his untimely death. If anyone wants to know the real story of John Lennon's life, "Dakota Days" by John Green would definately be the book to read. No one else, not even his wife Yoko seemed to know exactly what was going on in the musicians head as well as John Green did. This was a good book when the facts are concerned, but the information was a little confusing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unpublished photos make this a gem
So many Beatles-related books trot out the same photos, again and again. You all know the ones I'm talking about. But this book is decidedly and refreshingly different. I have many Lennon biographies in my library and this book contains many previously unpublished photos of John, especially ones from his childhood and in the period 1975-1980. The paper quality in the book is exceptional and is thick, glossy material which results in a stunning display of black and white vibrancy. The text is incidental but adds flavor and gives you the year each photo was taken.

The photos of the Beatles are a little weaker, and contain many previously known shots. But the individual pictures of John are outstanding. Consider the beautiful profile view on the cover of the book, taken in 1967. This is just a sampling of what this treasure trove has to offer. There are many other such nuggets within the covers. Any serious fan of John Lennon will adore this book and get many hours of pleasure perusing these photos of a great cultural and musical icon. John himself would scoff at such a description, but it's oh so true.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most important 60's figure
If anything the importance and influence Mr. Lennon have been underestimated. This fatherless, motherless working-class boy wandered Liverpool as a near street urchin in care of his Aunt Mimi. his longings for what we would call boring middle class familial comfort ar palpable in such songs as "Mother" ans "Julia." His first son was named for his "bolter" of a mother. after 8 years of heroin addition ensconsed in the Dakota with Yoko he emerged, produced "Double Fantasy" and was gunned down by Mark David Chapman, probably a brainwashed agent of the US government. This book is sure to delight any reader from inveterate Beatles fan to interested learner. This book chronicles the life of John Lennon from his boyhood days in Liverpool up to his tragic death in 1980.

The photographs capture John at all phases of his life. One can imagine the high spirited young boy who declared to all and sundry that he was a genius and special (and he was right), to the founder of the world's number one band. I like the way this book captures John as more than the artist he was. I like the pictures of John with his sons, with his first wife Cynthia and with his soulmate and wife, Yoko. One feels that they are taking a Magical Mystery Tour with the man who literally made the world listen.

This book is such a treat. I can't recommend it highly enough. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lennon was a genius
Lennons two books, first published in the mid 1960's, at the time of the Beatles hayday should be read as part of the whole Beatlemania phenomena. Lennon was trapped in the Beatles, a world he both loved and hated, and one of the ways to express his artistic flair outside of the music was to write books. His books were sharply satirical and humorous, exhibiting an understanding of the world as Lennon saw it. Lennon's writings were primarily influenced by Peter Sellers and the Goons (predecessors of Monty Python), and the stories are sadly hysterical, carrying the same rapier wit and deep universal insight that Lennon expressed a few years later on the lyrics of Sgt. Pepper and the White Album. These 2 volumes really give an insight into the mind of Lennon, the callous and cynical but deeply philosopical and genious-inspired works of a major, influential artist of the 1960's. Lennon wrote and played music in the top supergroup of the 1960's, appeared in films, created obscure artwork, made political and religious statements and wrote classic books. These are those books. Read and reflect on the genius of John Lennon.

4-0 out of 5 stars True Lennon
Lennon had a true wit and a fondness for word play. It is difficult to read too much of this convoluted cruelty at one sitting, but it makes good browsing, and the pictures by the author are superb. It is also fascinating for the insight it cannot help but occasionally give us into the workings of Lennon's mind, and his opinions of his own life at the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disturbing, humorously chilling, ultimately brilliant!
I first read, or tried to read, "In His Own Write" when I was 14, at boarding school in England. Tears rolled down my cheeks! It was impossible to read the stories out loud to any hapless listener without collapsing into hysteria. The book was already out of print then, 1973. An instant collector's item! Greatly coveted! Years later I came across paperbacks of both books, sadly, in the wake of JL's tragic death. They took pride of place in my library. I lost them, or somebody stole them, a few years ago and I miss them more than any other book that's similarly walked from my home, now in the USA. I cannot recommend these works highly enough to anyone who appreciates offbeat humour. 5 stars really aren't enough for material SO brilliant and SO unique. The man and his work were, quite simply, pure genius.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very weird and strange and in a way..... SCARY!
On a trip to England, I bought this book. I thought it would be really good casue I am a big Lennon fan. I thought. I thought this book had some humor in it and had a few good pictures. And Amazon, I have a copy if anyone orders it. ... Read more
