Book Description

In this riveting follow-up to her #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, Coal Miner’s Daughter, Loretta Lynn continues her captivating story about triumph over the odds.

Loretta Lynn’s first memoir, Coal Miner’s Daughter, was a #1 national bestseller that sparked an Oscar-winning movie and left fans hungry for more. Now Loretta finishes that story, and the second half of her life is every bit as remarkable and inspiring as the first.

In a friendly, down-home style that belies her stature as country music’s most celebrated performer, Loretta writes candidly about the price of fame and the stresses of stardom; tells of friends and family she’s loved and lost along the way; and shares secrets not included in her first book. But at the heart of this memoir is her stormy relationship with Doo, the man she married at thirteen and stayed with until he died, through his drinking, their violent arguments, and their passionate reconciliations. Loretta reveals the devotion behind "one of the hardest love stories in the world." Filled with intimate portraits of country legends, and brimming with folksy humor, this personal tale of grit, determination, and loyalty will enthrall Loretta’s countless fans and anyone who adores a good old-fashioned love story.

Loretta Lynn, the most celebrated entertainer in the history of country music has a lot to sing about:

5-0 out of 5 stars A Strong Story By a Strong Woman
We all loved both the book and the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter." And now Loretta Lynn is back with "Still Woman Enough" to not only finish the story since the original book, but to complete and more accurately detail events from the earlier book. As expected, the vivid stories are told in Loretta's appealing brutal honesty, wit, detail, and charm. The biggest change between the two books is that as time and people have passed, Loretta can provide a different perspective on her life. You will openingly laugh at some of the tales. And you will be greatly sadden by the stories of abuse. We have all seen stories of Loretta in the tabloids for years, but nothing I've read in the tabloids is as shocking as what I found in the book. Several parts of this book must have been very difficult for Loretta to write, and I give her a lot of credit for having the guts to do so. Loretta also writes about several country music legends, personally I enjoyed reading about Conway Twitty and Tammy Wynette. All in all this book is fascinating and very satisfying. And, yes, she is still woman enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Touching
I was given this book and read it because I ran out of books to read. I ended up loving the book and Loretta's insight and ability to see herself and where she came from without criticism of that former person. Anyone would enjoy this book, even if, like me, you aren't a country music fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars As Honest as the Day is Long...
In the follow up to Coal Miner's Daughter, we learn more of Loretta's relationship with her now deceased husband, Doolittle Lynn. As the explores the painful history of their lives, complete with alcoholism, abuse, and infidelity, it becomes very clear, that in their case, love truly does conquer all. Loretta also explores the loss of her husband, her son, and many other close friends and family. But don't get me wrong, she's not whining or feeling sorry for herself. She's telling her life the way it happened. I thoroughly enjoyed this book

5-0 out of 5 stars cool
follw up to coal miners daughter. tells of life as country star. tells of life o0n road and in country music. tells of her life married to her husband and raising children. candid portrayal of country legend. continues where coal miners daughter left off. a totally cool and inspirstional book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loretta is pure Country
I really enjoyed this followup to Coal Miner's Daughter. What I like about Loretta is that what you see is what you get. She is honest and open and has had her share of heartache. I suspect that is why people can relate to her and her music.

I loved Loretta's stories about George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Patsy Cline.

The book is written as Loretta would speak it. (She talks about how her family could have used 'thurpy') It makes it easy to picture Lorette speaking the words of her story directly to you. I give this book 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed
A grandmother at 28?Wow!I learned a lot of interesting things about 1) the country music star, and 2) about coming up hard and making it work out.

This book is Loretta Lynn's tale of her childhood in Butcher Holler with her poor but pround parents. Her parents allow her to be married off to a man she barely knows when she is 13.Amazingly, she remains married to this man for the rest of his life.

Anyway, the husband encourages Loretta to sing publicly because he thinks she has a great voice. And I don't need to tell you how the career goes, because that's pretty popular knowledge.

All in all, this was a great book.Very well developed and informative, whether you're a country music fan or not.

5-0 out of 5 stars What can I say?
I have been completely in love with Loretta Lynn ever since I saw "Coal Miner's Daughter." I didn't even know who she was til I watched the movie at age 14, then I read the book and became hooked on her music. She is an amazing woman. Her life has been hard, and she doesn't take any of her success for granted. She is who she is. What you see is what you get with her. I don't know if anyone who reads her book could relate to half of what she has experienced, but it makes for interesting reading. I was lucky enough to see her live in concert a month ago, and when she walked out on that stage, I was brought literally to tears. I just couldn't believe this woman I admire so highly was actually standing in front of me. I'll never forget that night. And I will never stop loving Loretta Lynn. Read BOTH of her autobiographies. Both are excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was a Coal Miner's daughter in Kentucky
This is one of the greatest books that has ever been written. My father was a coal miner until he got hurt.I sing my self and loretta is just so good.Being from the same state she is i guess the reason she has such a influenece on my life.If you read this book you will love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Coal Miner's Daughter
Very interesting. This woman has led a very difficult life, but she never seems to lose her spirit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, Touching and unforgetable
This is a very touching book, you can't put down once you begin to read it. The life-long story of Lorreta Lynn is powerful and
breath-taking. The words in this book are not fancy, but candid, convincible and colorful, it is the true life of Lorreta Lynn that wins the heart of millions people.

How poor is being poor? What is the struggle to escape from being
poor? How Lorreta Lynn became a country music diva from a coal miner's daughter? From this book, we share the life of Lorreta Lynn with our own, we see the souls and dreams as well as day to day lives of many ordinary people, especially the humanbeing under poverty.

Lorreta Lynn was born into a very poor coal miner's family in a remote Kentucky hillside. Her father had little money to feed Lorreta and her family, one Christmas, her Daddy had only thirty-six cents (!) for Lorreta and her three brothers. The work was very hard for her Daddy, he had to crawl on his hands and knees to work inside the ream of coal, of only three feet high. Until seven years old, Lorreta always wore flour sack her mummy sewed as dress. However, with her unyielding spirit and unceasingly struggling, Lorreta went on and up, became the queen of country music and a millionaire.

I didn't know the name of Lorreta Lynn until I watched the movie"coal miner's daughter", this movie led me to this book. The movie is fantastic, but this book let you know more and think more.

Either you like county music or not, either you are poor or rich,
this book is absolutely good, inspiring, touching and unforgetable. ... Read more
