5-0 out of 5 stars This is a rare find! A great little biography of Marilyn!
.
I discovered this book listed on Amazon, and although it is long out of print, I was lucky enough to find a copy. Due to it's limited release and distribution, this book is already a collector's item, which only adds to the difficulty of obtaining a copy. I hope that this book will again be published and will become more widely available. Anyone who is interested in Marilyn Monroe would find this book to be quite charming.

This is a great little biography that tells the story of an unfortunate girl who spent her early years in foster homes and in an orphanage. It explains how the "orphaned" girl named Norma Jeane went on to realize her dreams of becoming a movie star in Hollywood, and how as Marilyn Monroe she found the love and adoration she never had as a young girl.

For anyone who isn't familiar with Marilyn's story, consider this book "Marilyn 101", as it's a perfect choice for a first-time look into the life of Marilyn Monroe. It's appropriate for young readers (teenagers) and adults. For the younger reader who may only know of Marilyn Monroe from having seen the iconic photographs of her in the famous white dress billowing in the breeze of a subway, this book will familiarize the reader with the woman behind the image.

I found this book to be quite interesting. I've read many biographies of Marilyn Monroe, so the story of her life is quite familiar to me; yet I thoroughly enjoyed this biography because it was written in a different style than most MM biographies.

The author focuses on the basic facts of Marilyn's life story, and tells it in a style suited for her target readers, the high-school age (and younger) student. The book does not delve into any subject matter that would be deemed unsuitable for this young demographic, but rather tells Marilyn's story in a simple and inspirational manner. I found it to be a very refreshing telling of Marilyn's life story.

The book contains many black & white and color photos, which illustrate Norma Jeane's early life as well as Marilyn Monroe's life as a famous movie star. The photos serve to illustrate the transformation that young Norma Jeane underwent in the process of realizing her dreams.

My young niece (who calls me "Uncle Marilyn"!) always knew that I was mesmerized by Marilyn Monroe, and I plan on giving her this book to read so that she'll know Marilyn's story and perhaps obtain a deeper understanding of my fascination with MM. I think it's a story she'll enjoy reading, and hopefully she will learn something from Marilyn's story as to how she overcame adversity and made her dreams come true.

I recommend this book very highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
This book is one of the best books about Marilyn you'll ever find. Mainly because it's very easy to read. (Not to mention it's appropriate for all ages.) The only things I didn't enjoy about it was it's inaccuracy--Marilyn DOESN'T perform a "glamorous dance number" in her movie "How To Marry a Millionare." And when the author wrote about Marilyn seeing "Gone With The Wind" when she was 13 Vivien Leigh's name was misspelled. (She spelled it V-i-v-i-A-n.)
Otherwise, this book is very colorful and full of information. The pictures are vibrant and clear. This book is a little pricey ([$$]bucks!) but worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Marilyn Monroe Book for Kids???
That's what I thought when I first picked up this book.

I'm a teacher of young students and wondered why in the world someone would publish a book on Monroe for children. But then I read the book, and I thought it was both sensitive and compelling and of use to young persons today who tend to be "starstruck" with celebrities and celebritism.

I learned something from the book...a view of who Marilyn was, really. I have recommended this book to my students.

3-0 out of 5 stars What makes the Divine Monroe an ICON?
I am a high school student, trying to write my term paper on one of the most influential women in Amercan history. What it is that this book lacks, is the "stuff" that made her an icon. It goes into her early years and helps the reader to figure out who Norma Jean (a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe) really was. I hope that anyone who buys this book realize's that it won't be of any help to them, if they are trying to prove how she got to be an American icon, and what it was she did to get there! I only gave it 3 stars, because it has some great pictures of Marilyn.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
At first I thought why read this book, but I had to write a report on afamous person for school. So I chose this book and I thought it was really, really good. ... Read more
