Book Description

“First there was a distinct rumbling sound, then a roaring explosion, followed by a brilliant flash of light. I felt as though my body was turning inside out, ejecting me in the process. The explosion of light pulsed like a freight train up the center front of me, hit my brain, and kept right on going, carrying me into what looked like the depths of outer space…”

The Evolving Human is the compelling true story of one woman’s struggle with a sudden, spontaneous “awakening of kundalini,” the ancient Eastern term for a massive awakening of the powers of consciousness. From the surprising beginning, through the confusing, sometimes life-threatening events that unfold, to its profound conclusion, it becomes more and more clear that the awakening of consciousness is the entry into spiritual development. What is unexpected, however, is the fact that we are all designed and built to evolve in this way and that the evolution of human beings into truly spiritual creatures is a far more extensive and life-changing process than anyone may have suspected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comments on The Evolving Human
I wrote this book after struggling with kundalini for several years because I felt there had to be other people in the world who were struggling with these symptoms and might be helped if they knew what was really happening.

Many people believe that spirituality is some fine, fuzzy feeling of benevolent prayerfulness that makes everything in the world wonderful and blissful. While a full awakening does lead eventually to joy, the beginning of the road can be overwhelming in its difficulties - the appearance of clairvoyance, clairaudience, and other psychic gifts, out-of-body experiences, precognition, periods of overwhelming sensuality, strange pains in the feet, intense and explosive heating of the body, inability to concentrate, loss of interest in jobs and partners due to blossoming of your true interests or purpose, and sometimes the crumbling of your old life - all of which creates what is known as "spiritual emergency."

After 22 years of counseling those caught in these difficulties, and running a small center providing temporary housing for those whose lives fall apart, it is clear that spirituality transforms both awareness and action, and the burden of these gifts is that they must be taken back into everyday life... hence the old saying, "Before enlightenment - chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment - chop wood, carry water."

It is also clear that a true spiritual awakening is deeply connected to sexuality, and that few people mention this in their writings, partly because of the many taboos around sex, partly because it is so deeply personal, and partly because they have not had the full awakening and therefore don't know enough. Those who knew Gopi Krishna were aware of the potent sexual nature of his experiences, and those who have studied the writings of Charles Leadbetter, Lee Sannela MD, Hank Wesselman, Swami Muktananda, St. John of The Cross, and others makes it clear that although Western religions have tried to separate sexuality and spirituality, they are intimately linked.

Known in the East as "kundalini", and in the West as "grace", this book covers the full range of what may be encountered in "the full manifestation of grace" and makes it obvious that what has long been considered an outright gift of God is built-in to each of us and unfolds spontaneously. The result, says Jesuit priest Pierre deChardin, is a "move up the ladder of evolution, a biological super-creation."

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bright Path Through the Forest of Kundalini Awakening
THE EVOLVING HUMAN is a fascinating account of Penny Kelly's kundalini awakening in 1979. I love the way Kelly shares the full breadth and depth of her highly personal experience, and the way she describes the many varied effects of kundalini (such as heightened sensory and extra-sensory awareness). In sequential fashion, Kelly tells the story of how she first entered the realm of "I AM" knowingness, and how she gradually began to feel and appreciate the way her kundalini experience sensitized her to the world. Little by little, Kelly found herself learning to use the great power and wisdom conferred by kundalini, even as her rational mind continued to search for answers and a deep understanding of what had happened to her. In addition to providing a personal record of kundalini awakening, THE EVOLVING HUMAN also has a series of appendixes which provide a description of the stages of human spiritual evolution, and some useful pointers for analyzing dreams, and improving one's telepathic skills.

In one of the most fascinating parts of this book, Kelly describes how she lived through a period of time in which she felt herself living out two future paths along with her normal day-to-day life. One was much "safer" yet ultimately less satisfying, while the other was more true to living up to her full spiritual potential. She chose the path of fulfilling her potential, and I am certain that the world is a much better place for it! Kelly now lives at Lily Hill Farm in Michigan, where she teaches classes about developing intuition as she works in the gardens, barns, and kitchens. THE EVOLVING HUMAN began as a series of hand-outs for these classes, and due to popular demand grew into this beautiful book.

My kundalini awakening took place in 1994, and many things Kelly describes in THE EVOLVING HUMAN remind me of experiences I've lived through. How wonderful it is to have this book at one's side, as reassurance that kundalini is a normal part of the process of human spiritual evolution. I give this book my highest recommendation for anyone who wishes to better understand how the kundalini experience transforms one's life.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Grand Adventure both popular and professional
Shawn Regan and Eleanor Field have pulled off something close to a coup
in this interesting book. There are precious few books that provide
us both the person's inside experience of hypnotic regression that includes
past-life references as well as the professionals perspective on these events.
It is a stunning journey for both popular audiences and professionals
wanting to be exposed to different hypnotic techniques and a clinical
perspective of the process. The story itself is a healing journey on the level
of solving a personal mystery impacting this life for Shawn Regan as well as
one of redemption, resolution and celebration for him, his psychologist and
the reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Offers therapeutic revelations and insights
Co-written by award-winning writer Shawn Regan and licensed clinical psychologist and family therapist Eleanor S. Fields, Brain Storms! is a true story of a patient's harrowing journey as he learns from the turbulent experiences of his past life. A work of non-fiction presented with the reading fluency of a novel, Brain Storms! offers therapeutic revelations and insights worthy of the best of the self-help book. Brain Storms! is a compelling and recommended journey taking the reader through phases of life, eras of time, and the depths of the human mind.

This well-written book is a fascinating journey into the human mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this amazing book!
Brain Storms is an amazing book you won't be able to put down! It is expertly written around the concept that perhaps we all may have lived another life (or lives) before this one.

The author, Eleanor S. Field, Ph.D, a noted and known psychologist and hypnotherapist, weaves the commentary of one of her patients who, under her guidance, was able to revivify and relive his past life experiences, along with documentation of Dr. Elly's insightful commentary and observations.

The recounting of this journey certainly transformed my thinking about life, death and the hereafter. Read it and allow it to inspire you and shine a measure of light and lessons upon your life, as well! Thank you Dr. Elly for writing this beautiful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Please read this book!
Hertenstein & Trott have done an invaluable service in the cause of truth. I urge those who have ever heard of Mike Warnke to read this book at least as many times as you read Warnke's "The Satan Seller", or as many times as you have listened to his albums or tapes. There is no way Warnke could refute the evidence in "Selling Satan." He has not responded to specific charges raised in this book to date (October 2000). Warnke is still on the church circuit, selling his books and tapes, though only a few dozen people show up now to hear him. The good people at Cornerstone magazine (JPUSA) are to be highly commended for this in-depth look at a con artist who once billed himself as the country's "#1 Christian comedian." Mike Warnke is currently married to wife #4. He continues to claim that his testimony of being a satanist priest is true. He denies fraudulently taking money for the care of the victims of Satanic Ritual Abuse. I heard him in person this year defending his ministry. If you want the truth about this charlatan, please read--or reread, "Selling Satan." You won't be disappointed. Plus, it is a good historical perspective on the Jesus movement of the late 1960's & '70's.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Handle The Truth.....
Mike Warnke had it all. He made multiplied millions of dollars selling his testimony, his tapes, and selling out concerts all across the USA and overseas.

But a funny thing happened in 1992. Two Christian journalists who had long suspected Warnke to be a "mount of misinformation" as well as an immoral fraud decided to investigate his life story. They not only uncovered the fact that Warnke had received multiplied millions of dollars to support his lavish lifestyle, complete with horses, ranch, four-story parsonage, and vehicles, but the fact he had been married FOUR times and the Christian churches where he spoke knew nothing about it.

Further investigation of his life revealed a very bizarre portrait: Warnke was exposed not as an ex-Satanic High Priest who sacrificed fingers to the devil (do you ever wonder where all those multiplied millions of people who are supposedly Satanists live that have only nine fingers?) but as a charlatan and closet Catholic who hid his love of rituals from his mostly sympathetic to the charismatic movement audiences.

Two Christians endeavored to tell the truth about Mike Warnke, and this book is that truth. It gives a shocking story about Warnke and is - ironically - a better-detailed biography of Warnke that he managed to write himself!!!

Warnke is exposed as a fraud in nearly every way imaginable. His Vietnam experiences are overblown, his global conspiracy mindset is shredded, and Warnke is shown to lack character as well as tell tall tales about nearly anything. For example, Warnke claimed to have met Charles Manson in a desert at the same time Manson was serving a prison sentence and Warnke was in the Navy. Warnke also claimed to have attended a conference in 1966 where he met the highly diabolical Anton LaVey. As a treat to the readers, the two Christian journalists (Trott and Hertenstein) actually had dinner with LaVey to ask him about this meeting!! The meeting, of course, NEVER happened.

This book is mostly about things that never happened except in the mind of a born storyteller and con man who forgot the very message he was selling to the masses: Jesus takes us just as we are, but He doesn't let us stay that way.

Many kudos to Jon Trott and Mike Hertenstein.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this if you care about the truth
I was in Bible college when the Cornerstone expose of Warnke came out. I had seen Mike in concert several times prior to this, and always considered him a great man of God. Like so many others, I just assumed his story was true, because - well, because everybody said it was. Fortunately, the authors had the good sense to launch a long overdue investigation into his claims. Selling Satan is a masterpiece of investigative journalism. The writers are to be commended for their tenacity, investigative skills and commitment to truth.

As for Warnke, a quick visit to his web site will reveal that he hasn't changed, still claiming to have been a Satanist high priest. The five pastors he "submitted" to were extremely easy on him, never challenging him to either prove or denounce what he has written. If you don't believe me, email Warnke himself and ask for copies of the documents regarding their "investigation." The whole thing was a joke. This con artist has managed to avoid doing honest work thanks to fools and cronies, but he has forever disgraced himself and caused terrible hurt to those who used to admire him. Pathetic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good expose on a fraud
Mike Warnke started his "Christian" fame claiming to have been an ex-Satanist and became a "Christian comic". Sadly, he lied for decades before someone actually checked out his claims. Warnke lied about so many things and made claims that were not true, and the facts about his life show how gullibe the Christian people are. He was the first so-called "satanic survivor" and because of liars like him and a few others I could name, the satanic panic hysteria messed up a number of lives. A real eye opener of one Christian fraud among many. The fact that he fooled so many believers for so long does not speak well for the intelligence and serious inquiry of those that fall for these lies, distortions and deceptions about other beliefs and views. Sadly Warnke is not the only self-proclaimed "expert" who lied from the get-go. His lies about his Vietnam experience alone should be contemptibe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Will the Real Mike Warnke Please Stand Up?
I was involved in the Contemporary Christian Music industry when the Warnke scandal broke and, frankly, it wasn't a shock to many people in the industry.

I had lobbied the production company I was working with numerous times to hire him for the music festival we did every year, only to be told that there were "integrity issues" involving Warnke.

I was stunned to see that the Cornerstone Magazine article and the accompanying book confirmed what I had hoped were only ugly rumors.

This book is well researched and heavily footnoted and, sadly, irrefutable by Warnke.

I'd like to take a moment to point out to those who defend him that he is still passing himself off as a former Satanic "high priest", a Marine who saw heavy combat in Viet Nam, a drug dealer, a child abuse survivor and a PhD.

Each of these claims has been disproven, yet, he still persists in them.

When it's pointed out that these things have all been shown to be lies, rather than demonstrate that they are true, he plays the dewey eyed victim. One almosts expects to hear the phrase, "vast, right wing conspiracy".

I strongly believe that we should rally around fallen brothers and sisters in Christ to restore them but nowhere in the Bible do we see restoration without repentance.

Warnke clearly is not repetant, as a trip to his own website reveals that he is unwilling to put behind him the sin from which he is supposedly repenting.

Warnke has failed every single Biblical criteria for fitness for the ministry. Were he a rank and file church member, rather than a Christian celebrity, he would have been disfellowshipped long ago for refusing to give up his sin (assuming, of course, that there were still churches around that practiced Biblical discipline). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars terrific story, touching portrayal.
I read and re-read Ms. Karlen's book and found it to be a heartfelt commentary on the persistence and tenacity of the human spirit. I believe this book and Lance Armstrong's book both illustrate how one person can overcome seemingly insurmountable odds and emerge a winner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Huh?
Never have I been as perplexed about a book as with this selection.Aside from the back that the writing style/ language is droning, montone and without texture of any kind, I don't know what the book was aiming to explain. The story is Boring-
I had to search high and low for details about the re-incarnation aspects. This subject, which claims to be the main one of this book actually takes a back seat to the authors mundane tales of dressage, and I supposes tales of persecution.
I am usually delighted by a nice photo section, but here again I was mystified by the selection: a photo of the author at age 2, age 2 1/2, age 7, age 12, another age 12, different headshot pose, one of the author in 1981 next to a horse, another in 1989 with two horses and "a colleague"- no identification , another photo of the author on a horse, late 1980's, another horse photo with the author, 1989, another of the author (surprise!) with a horse, 1991, and then a headshot of the author 1997, and then a different pose 1998.No other photos of persons, objects, buildings, streets, family members documents- basically nothing besides that author in her dresssage get-up ,or a studio portrait of her face. This is so eerie.
I have read hundreds and hundreds of biographies, memoirs, including dozens of narratives of people's experiences with past life regressions and the like. This one is a doozie, this lady is just plain flaky and a poor storyteller as well.Sorry- add me to the extensive list of people who the author claims to be persecuted by.

5-0 out of 5 stars Was she really Anne Frank reincarnated?
This is the long--awaited English translation of "Und die Woelfe heulten," the controversial bio-novel in which Swedish writer Barbro Karlen claims to be the reincarnation of Anne Frank -- yes, THE Anne Frank who wrote famous diary. The book created quite a stir in the German-speaking world when it first came out in 1997. There were angry protests, as well as attempts to stop its publication, on the part of a small segment of the Jewish population who believed in neither reincarnation nor freedom of speech -- all of which I reported in "Life and Soul" magazine (London) in 1998.

Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and the book was published. I'm giving it five stars -- not because I really believe she was Anne Frank (I'm skeptical) but as a vote of free speech for a very brave author. The book raises some real questions about how issues from one life might be carried over into another, and how they might be resolved. Regardless of whether you decide the story is fact or fiction, "And the Wolves howled" is a very thought-provoking read! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A tapestry of home for everyone
Barbara Gates, Co-Editor of Inquiring Mind, a Buddhist journal has woven an intricate and warm shawl we can all wrap ourselves in and settle into our homes. She shows what it means to really live in a place, deeply connected to everyone and everything around us.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Journey Worth Taking through Heart, House and Neighborhood
Already Home: A Topography of Spirit, by Barbara Gates, is a risk-taking work that criss-crosses genres of geology, spirituality, autobiography and history to tell the story of one woman's discovery of "home' in all its dimensions. Spurred by a sense of not being fully at home in her own mortal being, house and community, Gates takes us along as she discovers her Berkeley, California neighborhood in its present and past incarnations. She balances and connects her spiritual travels with concrete adventures down alleyways, through garbages dumps and into the Department of Vital Statistics. Gates' rich prose let me hear the spring hidden by the factory, see the homeless neighbor sleeping in Gate's car and feel the fear and joy of opening your heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seize the Moment
Berkeley California writer/resident Barbara Gates has given her readers an insider¹s view of her multi-layered, multi-ethnic neighborhood in her sweetly revealing memoir. Already Home is a social, historic exploration of her hood, beautifully written in a journalistic style that explains the migration of communities (flora and fauna, people, businesses and social movements), and celebrates the fundamental nature of extended family and home. Liberally intertwining Eastern philosophy with a dose of Buddhist-Jewish "chutzpah", Barbara inspires readers to stop, look, seize the moment, live more fully and honor the life that is around you.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Home" has many meanings
This is a lovely book - part memoir, part reflection on what it is to live in a place where others have been before us. On one level, it is Barbara's own story and that of her neighborhood in Berkeley - diagnosed with breast cancer she fears, not so much her own death, but leaving her 5-year-old motherless. Barbara begins investigating her own house and neighborhood, her neighbors, the people who lived in her house before her, the succession of businesses since Gold Rush times, and even the Native Americans. She sees herself as part of the succession of people who have lived - and died - in this one place. On another level, it is the story of how one connects with a larger sense of belonging, membership in the human race, by looking at the concrete details of where we live and the ordinary people whose lives make up the present and the history of one's own house, block, neighborhood. Barbara brings a Buddhist sensibility to all this, but as a source of insight added to her own reflections - readers with Buddhist sympathies will appreciate the dharmic resonances, but those without will not, I think, read this as a Buddhist tract, but as a personal reflection. It's also beautifully written, so that we get a concrete feel for the streets she walks, the dog who walks with her, the homeless neighbor...I'll never see my neighborhood, and my 1920s-era house, with its traces of the people who have lived in it, painted it, and remodeled it over the years in quite the same way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Opening my eyes and heart
All too easily the spiritual path is perceived as an inner experience that unfolds under certain conditions- by an alter, on the top of a mountain, with a teacher. This book was a passionate wake-up call- one that had me walk outside and take my neighborhood and world in with fresh eyes. In-so-doing, my spirit felt enlivened and enlarged.

Barbara Gates writes with a revealing power of observation and an innate appreciation of the mystery, pain and beauty within and around us. Through her eyes, we learn how to deepen our attention, and discover the way our being, our very reality, is shaped by our biological context, our culture, our web of relationships. For anyone who seeks to live and love more fully, this book is a gift to the soul. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Make that 10, 15 Stars!
Two of the century's most amazing minds met & interacted in an initiatic/alchemic/esoteric give & take for 18 months some 40 years ago in France...these men were De Lubicz, the cautious, controversial, mind-bogglingly brilliant Egypt-inspired theorist/Adept, and Vandenbroeck, the 'burning', younger, bounteously-gifted apprentice. Their time spent together has been revivified masterfully, the conversations recreated compellingly, and the overall effect achieved in this portrait/memoir/esoteric 'thriller' is revelatory...I'll be re-reading these authors & passing copies to friends the rest of my life! (PS: WHO was Fulcanelli?)

5-0 out of 5 stars classic
This is the only biography of R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz available in English and as such would be an absolute necessity even if it did not contain rare insights and information regarding the man. Unfortunately the book is a little inaccessible upon the first reading, as the prose is highly compressed. But it gets better each time you read it, as most true spiritual classics do. And this is indeed a classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars The sublime and the rediculous
Dispersed among pages devoted to small-minded pettines and pendantic diction there is enough rarefied subject matter to warrant reading and re-reading this fascinating exposé of the hermetical mind of Schwaller de Lubicz. One cannot ignore the rare biographical information imparted on the Fulcanelli milieu. Well worth a place in your library. Silvio Pan

5-0 out of 5 stars "Ye are the salt of the Earth..."
Andre VandenBroeck's "Al-Kemi" is much more significant than a memoir (as described by the author), and far beyond a simple collection of biographical data pertaining to the life of Rene Schwaller de Lubicz. Not that these points are absent. To the contrary, VandenBroeck depicts with great lucidity his understanding of the events and personalities involved his relationship with "Aor" late into the 1950's. Al-Kemi's more vital value however, resides in the fact that reads as a microcosmic course in Hermetic Philosopy, challenging the readers established ways of thinking (even reading!), and offering alternative perspectives. Despite VandenBroeck's knack of utilizing the printed word economically (or, perhaps due to this talent), he effectively communicates profundity through brevity. Hence, the reader will note two predominent ideological threads woven into the memoir: Rene Schwaller's metaphysics of perception (derived mostly from his interpretation of Pythagorean and Pharaonic geometry, or "symbolique", and ultimately spurring all modern philosophical controversies. The battle of "Archemides vs. Pythagoras", the question of two as the result of increase, or as the result of division of the one thing). Secondly, de Lubicz's stress placed on the role of Alchemical Salt. Thus, Rene Schwaller's extention of the Hermetic doctrine of Salt as the matrix of manifestation sends the reader on a mysterious and alluring journey. Absent of any chronology in this Hermetic adventure, back, forward, and simultaneously the trek visits the Parisian Alchemical world of the 1900's, complete with Fulcanelli, whose relationship with Schwaller often reminds one of John Dee and Edward Kelly's work together. This "fixing" of Salt moves behind the temple walls of Pharonic Egypt, finds testimony in the Gothic Cathedrals, presents us with the stormy climate of right-wing, monarchist, and elitist brotherhoods of post World War I France and Germany. And it is this Salt, that our perception inscribes experience upon, circulating eternally throughout nature, more critical, stable, and reliable than DNA in the course of esoteric "evolution" (if such a word can be used without detracting from Schawller's arguement), and providing the key to the Adepts' secret of Palingenesis.

5-0 out of 5 stars -make that 10, 15 Stars!
5-0 out of 5 stars Indianapolis native identifies with experiences of author
As a counseling psychologist who has been surprised by the number of unexplainable experiences that can occur during a therapy session, I found Captain Snow's book to be astounding. His analysis of a past life, and the time and effort taken to review both the reliability and validity of his research methods will help many skeptics to reform biases against the existence of reincarnation.

I wish the author would have shared more about his relationships with both his wife and Carroll's wife - though we are told that his wife is a skeptic, I find it hard to believe that she could reject her husband's evidence after years of research.

A thoroughly good book and a nice introduction to the area of reincarnation and the field of past life regression therapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Research
I was amazed at the length Captian Snow went to prove he, himself, had lived a past life as portrait painter Carroll Beckwith. Being a dective gave the author added diligence and preseverance in researching every detail of his regression to discover who this painter was.

Unlike the book Search for Grace: A True Story of Reincarnation by Bruce Goldberg which I found lacking in research Captain Snow leaves no detail untouched. Author Goldberg's book was interesting but in cannot compare to this indepth look at reincarnation.

Because of the author's painstaking research I found this book fascinating and hard to put down. The author also includes many pictures of Carroll Beckwith's paintings which added to the powerful image of this man having actually lived and died years before Captain Snow was born.

I was not, in any way, concerned with the fact that the author did not get the wife's name correct. Having read many other accounts of reincarnation this happens often. Names do not seem as important once a soul has left this realm of existence.

I highly recommend this book for those interested in past life regression or for those who may want more proof of its existence.

5-0 out of 5 stars a Past Life book for skeptics
If you're skeptical about past life regressions, this would be a good book for you. The author started out as more of a skeptic than me, and possibly more so as you as well. He dealt with te information he received in a reading, like any detective in his place would. He went and looked at the data. Admittedly, he was doing so to disprove that what he had seen was a past life. After a point, when he hadn't found anything to disprove what he had seen, and numerous points that in fact confirmed what he had seen, he finally came to believe it had been a past life.

This book was really fascinating! I'd like to address the reviewer above about the writing ability of the author. It was written beautifully, and from his heart! It had my interest from the minute I read the first page. I find it totally believable and thank the author for writing his story, because alot of people might think him crazy. Well, he's hardly that, and this is an amazing story worth reading. Don't miss out on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars I now have a burning desire to contact my deceased son.
What a wonderful way to confirm my belief in life after death. I now am a believer that modern-day miracles are indeed real. Anyone who had any doubts must read this book. Rosemary has given the world proof that our loved ones who have passed away are safe and happy. I am confident that one day, with the help of a sincere medium, I will be able to contact my beloved son who died at the age of 19. Rosemary, thank you for sharing your gift with the world and giving us peace. Please contact me if possible.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Thoroughly Enjoyable Book
This very entertaining book came into my life at a time when I was developing my own psychic and channeling abilities. So I am pleased to say that Ms. Altea provided a role model for my own mediumship and writing career. I highly recommend it. The only drawback to this book? I can't prove this but I suspect some literary license was taken in recreating various scenes. For example: Does Rosemary really "see" guides and other people in the room with her, in the sense that most people see people and objects. Or does she see them in the mind's eye instead, as I and many psychics do? It's a minor point, probably only of interest to fellow channels such as myself. And at some point, I would love to sit down with Rosemary and chat about such things. But the average reader won't be bogged down by these minor particulars. And if you want a fun, uplifting, and heart-warming read? This is the book for you! Who knows? It might just inspire you to develop your own God-given mediumship abilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars For keeping an open mind..
When I was a young teenager I could read a book straight through without putting it down. I've been missing that and then when I came to reading this book it re-occured; I couldn't put it down and there was that wonderful feeling again.

Most of the time I am not on good terms with religion, it creates war if you ask me and therefor I also normally have a hard time reading books that mention God continously through out. However Rosemary has managed to get around my defenses when it comes to that and I could read this book openmindedly.
Reading openheartedly is quite easy for me, but keeping an open mind about things, can be hard sometimes. I found myself respecting her description of what she felt was a God, it was opened enough for me to think of it as something else, anything that my mind wouldn't despise so much. Maybe it helps that her descriptions of certain happenings reminded me of my own experiences. In particular I liked her description of the ether body and then when she went on to tie that together with the "out of body experiences" when you are looking down on your own body - I thought it was phenomenal how well she described it.
-If my words are different than the words used in the book, it's because I have read the Swedish translation of the book..

This is a book to discover yourself in, or to accept and respect yourself for who you are!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful healing aid
I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. I have never read a book that I couldn't put down. It was given to me by my maternal uncle at a time when I was in need of some healing. No author has ever been able to make me see things so clearly before. This book made me laugh and cry. Ms. Altea is a very telented writer with a knack for storytelling.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of the best Psychic books I've ever read
As the title says, this is one of the best books I Have ever read. A Clarevoyant told me I had the psychic ability and it needed developing, he said I should read every book on mediumship I could get my hands on and this was the first book I read, it truely inspired my and answered many question. Rosemary is a wonderful gifted person and you feel as if you know her personally by the end of the book, she really opens her heart up to you. Book Description

Born to a family of "intuitive" women, MaryRose Occhino uses her "celestial whispers" to open the minds and the hearts of everyone who has sought out her remarkable abilities as a link to loved ones who have passed on. But her powers also became her connection to the outside world-both real and spiritual-after she struggled through an isolation that grew out of her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at the age of thirty-nine.

Filled with startling revelations, this fascinating book is also MaryRose's own inspiring true story-from the recognition of her gifts as a child, to their nurturing by her mother and grandmother, to her current standing as an extraordinary psychic medium who uses her abilities to help us see beyond the walls, and beyond the limits...not only to look into the next world, but to make the most of life in the here and now.

Offers a rare view into the world of a Zulu shaman

• Includes 14 Zulu myths as told by a traditional Zulu story keeper • Reveals Zulu shamanic practices, including healing techniques, dreamwork, oracles, prophecy, and interactions with star beings • New Edition of Song of the Stars • 12 b&w illustrations

In this rare window into Zulu mysticism, Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa breaks the bonds of traditional silence to share his personal experiences as a sangoma-a Zulu shaman. Set against the backdrop of post-colonial South Africa, Zulu Shaman relays the first-person accounts of an African healer and reveals the cosmology of the Zulu.

Mutwa begins with the compelling story of his personal journey as an English-trained Christian schoolteacher who receives a calling to follow in his grandfather's footsteps as a shaman and keeper of folklore. He then tells the stories of his ancestors, including creation myths; how evil came to the world; the adventures of the trickster god Kintu; and Zulu relations with the "fiery visitors," whom he likens to extraterrestrials. In an attempt to preserve the knowledge of his ancestors and encourage his vision of a world united in peace and harmony, Mutwa also shares previously guarded secrets of Zulu healing and spiritual practices: including the curing power of the sangoma and the psychic powers of his people. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars extensively researched book brings characters to life!
This well written and extensively researched book gave me great insight into the Women of the Golden Dawn. One gets very accustomed to reading only about the male Golden Dawn figures such as Aleister Crowley and Samuel MacGregor Mathers. Finally, a book about the women and what interesting lives they led!
I liked the way Mary Greer divided the 4 featured women into different archetypes, thus explaining the different roles they had within the Golden Dawn. It also gives contemporary women role models and a deeper understanding of our own psyches.
The book was a fascinating read into these women's lives, what they accomplished and how powerful they truly were during the Victorian era!

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
The role of the women who were involved in the Birth and Death of the Order has largely been overlooked.

It is highly recommendable if you would like a differing view of the rise and fall of the Order; it is an interesting combination of romance, drama, gossip, and historical information (Although I cannot attest to its accuracy). You are exposed to the flaws of the founders, and their weaknesses. While some of the interaction between members could come right out of Jerry Springer, it is still highly commendable.

I must admit I had a difficult time putting this book down.

5-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining and scholarly book
Women of the Golden Dawn addresses a subject that is rarely touched on in other books on the Occult Revival: the role of the women in this movement. Mary K. Greer weaves a tapestry of astrology, tarot, metaphysics, biography, and history. The book elucidates many magickal principles as skillfully as it recounts the story of four uncommon women. The extensive endnotes are especially intriguing; tarot readers will be very interested at the in-depth records of Golden Dawn tarot readings and interpretations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for fans of magic and the Golden Dawn
The Golden Dawn magical order was founded in 1888. Although it admitted women, they have been often overlooked in histories of the GD.Mary Greer redresses this oversight. The four women in question are Annie Horniman, actress and writer Florence Farr, freedom fighter for Ireland Maud Gonne and the mystical Moina Bergson Mathers.Greer claims that these women were the true heart and soul of the Golden Dawn, and it is hard not to agree with her. Each woman had exceptional talents, and each made her own unique contribution to this magical Order.Much research has gone into this book and it is packed with information not easily found on the subjects.Interesting details of some of the magical workings are given, including some by Maud Gonne and W.B.Yeats.The personal relationships, the bickering, the magic--it's all here. ... Book Description

A stand-alone memoir that continues Martin Prechtel's story and explores the Tzutujil Mayan concept of initiation and its relevance to our contemporary world.

"The Mayan gods, who hold eloquence above all else, must surely be pleased with this soul, who in this lifetime is named Mart'n Prechtel."--Clarissa Pinkola Estes

In Secrets of the Talking Jaguar, Martin Prechtel told of his fourteen years as a shaman in the ancient Mayan village of Santiago Atitlan. Now he continues his story, describing his role as village chief and initiator and examining the complexity of the Mayan religious and social universe against a backdrop of political and social intrigue.

During the period in which this book is set (the 1970s), Guatemala was in the midst of a brutal civil war. Prechtel's coming-of-age memoir relates his personal experience of the war, describing how Guatemala's ruling government outlawed the thousand-year-old traditional rites of the Maya, leading to the dissolution of Santiago Atitlan and ultimately forcing Prechtel to flee the country in fear for his life.

It's an amazing tale--and Prechtel is a spellbinding storyteller. His writing has been acclaimed as "colorful and revelatory in its insights . . . leagues beyond any ethnography I've ever read" (Common Boundary). At once a page-turner and a profound work of cultural anthropology, Long Life, Honey in the Heart makes a lasting contribution to our understanding of one of humankind's most significant ancient civilizations.

5-0 out of 5 stars wisdom of the ancients
Prechtel's book is incredibly beautiful, describing the life, loves and rituals of a small town in Guatemala, Santiage de Atitlan and the changes that have occurred there. As a companion piece to the Secrets of the Talking Jaguar, which is equally profound, this book leads us away from the Shamanistic and into the everyday life of these beautiful people. The book is full of the wisdom of the past regarding such things as marriage, teenage years, birth and death. My emotions and memories of the indiginous peoples of this land are brought vividly to mind in this book. I have lived and worked for many years with Pueblo people and am struck by the many similarities of belief and ritual.Prechtel is a fantastic writer who keeps one wanting more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Music, eloquent speech, and initiation
This being third in the sequence of Martin Prechtel's books that I'd read this year, completion of the triptych brought my understanding to critical mass/tears in view of how much has been lost in Guatemala's entry to the 21st century. However, these writings make it highly probable that the loss is not complete, or unmourned. His books embody the very processes he tells of; for example, his mention of customs which are made to be broken: people's learning the significance of who breaks them, how, and when they are broken or allowed to be broken strengthens the culture.* His own experience of out of sequence initiation illustrates this, but beyond that, the fluidity with which he passes between poetic and humorous storytelling and epilogues in a more philosophical tone invites inner dialogue in the reader. He is well aware of the modern consumer mentality as a ghost layer mimicing an underlying spiritual void, when he taunts the readers at the outset that many will voraciously consume his books and move on, without fulfilment. *This realization is the most important one passed from mentor to initiate in any culture. My mentor at the same period (the 1970's)was a halfway-house worker who realized and taught others that we were not there to enforce a culture on the mentally ill, but rather light-heartedly yet seriously to help them draw the line as to what they could expect to get away with and more importantly, not get away with, in this life, and to plan accordingly. Indigenous music and language being preserved and used in their celebratory (if no longer ritual) uses may be all we have left to work/play with. Prechtel does well to begin his story with his introduction to Mayan music. The depths have not yet been plumbed as far as the role music plays in initiation, since the printed word is not the right medium to convey this. It struck me as wonderful that a Peruvian flute band were playing their hearts out last weekend in Portland, Maine, at the last visit of the Tall Ships- a proper "send-off" to the ghosts of Conquistador navies by a very much alive pre-columbian musical band.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jujjuj Tijaax
Martin Prechel need to get in contact with the alive members of the music group Juljuj Tijaax to write and outspread the story. Especially Diego Tiney.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL AND ELOQUENTLY WRITTEN
Martin's words are a blueprint for healing our spiritual wounds and our separation from the natural world around us.

As a mentor, I found the information on initiation and the levels of hierarchy within his village to be invaluable. His dedication to the Mayan traditions and the people who have carried that wisdom down through the ages is exemplary. Thank you Martin for the strength and courage to bring that message forth during these very troubled times! ... Read more
