Book Description

The Austrian philosopher and writer Rudolf Steiner was one of the most original thinkers of the twentieth century. His writings cover a wide range of subjects, and he made valuable and influential contributions in many fields, including education, science, medicine, and social reform. The foundation of his researches was the "science of the spirit" that he called anthroposophy. He maintained that material science could never comprehend the whole of nature, as it excluded the realm of the spirit. Bridging the physical and spiritual worlds, anthroposophy would show the way toward a true understanding of humanity and its relation to the universe.

This is a concise, illustrated introduction to Steiner's life and work, describing how many of his ideas have been put into practice and are still giving inspiration and guidance to many people all over the world. ... Read more

Book Description

On the night of July 9, 1998 under a full moon, Val Jon Farris received a flurry of inspired messages, seven to be exact, that triggered a sequence of events which redefined the meaning and purpose of his life. The seventeen chapters in the book go into great detail about each of the messages, the events that transformed his life and the means by which the reader can reap the benefits of his inspiring adventure. After conducting a two-week leadership development program for a company in Sao Paulo, Brazil last summer, he decided to take some time off and explore the Peruvian Andes, particularly the ruins at Machu Picchu. Something about the Inca ruins captivated him. For many years he had experienced a strange kind of "pull" to go there. Little did he know that answering the calling would cast him into a spellbinding "burn zone" of personal insight, drama and revelation. ... Read more

But in the endlessness of time he receives visions of key moments in his life. Feeling vulnerable to the elements that surround him and intense fear, he finds himself stepping into the "Burn Zone" and on a spiritual adventure with the Light of the Masters. There he receives the "Seven Dimensions of Knowing". There is no turning back once you have read this book. I experience the journey again and again in my mind. It feels like a part of me. Book Description

In another age legends would have sprung up about the life of Peter Caddy, co-founder of the famous Findhorn Community and a respected leader in the New Age movement. Early in his life, Peter surrendered himself to the will of God and from this gained an unshakable faith that served him and others throughout his life.

He also gave himself completely and unconditionally to life, embracing it with zest, courage and delight. There was nothing otherworldly about Peter. He was a man of action who thoroughly enjoyed taking on a challenge -- the greater the better. Whether serving in the wartime RAF, climbing the Himalayas in Tibet, managing a luxury hotel on spiritual principles or running a New Age community, he climbed every mountain God put in front of him. He married five times and fathered six children. As a consequence, his life reads like an adventure novel: it is a ripping good yarn, which is all the more powerful because it is true.

He was not a philosopher, nor was he particularly self-reflective. He was a visionary and he believed in people, always drawing out the best in them. Everything he did was on a giant scale. Peter Caddy was killed in a car accident shortly before his 77th birthday: even his death was dramatic... In this book, Peter, a master storyteller, takes us on a journey of inspiration, action and spirit. We also participate in his struggles, hardships and initiations, but with Peter, problems and challenges are met head-on with indomitable positive thought and action. His legacy to us all is the knowledge that following our inner guidance -- God's will -- is not only an exciting, wonderful adventure, it can also change the world. ... Read more

Peter Caddy was a man of many talents, a natural-born leader whose adventures during the war, climbing the Himilayas, running a Scottish hotel, then founding and leading an alternative spiritual community andbecoming a world traveler and teacher make for fascinating reading.Asthey used to say, this is an exciting, "ripping good yarn" aboutaman who dedicated his whole life to God and to the emergence of a betterworld for humanity. This book is extremely fun to read and comes highlyrecommended for anyone interested in modern alternative spiritual andesoteric movements, the New Age, Rosicrucians, spiritual communities, orjust a good biography. The last chapter was written by Peter's new wifeafter he was killed in an automobile accident and contains more of herperspective and philosophy than his, even going so far as to turn his lifeinto an object lesson on the greatness of her particular Indian guru andmaking Caddy seem like an Eastern devotee rather than the initiate of theWestern Mystery Tradition that he was, but if you ignore all that, you willbe treated to a wonderful story about a remarkable human being. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars good new info on K
Krishnamurti is the most important mystic of the twentieth century, and a clear, unvarnished account of personal interactions with him is always revealing and welcome. This is another one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Less than 1 star had that option been available!
Money-making through the sales of this book seems to be the main aim of the author - excusable, actually, as a number of others have done so too with books on J. Krishnamurti: Krohnen is in exalted company, actually! He exploits his accidental association with a man of great charisma and wisdom for self-enrichment. A rather unweildy collection of used jokes - and many jokes that Krishnamurti made were picked up by K himself from others - laced with a few menus do not a good book make! And being K's cook for 10 years does not necessarily confer on anyone the right to portray K's character in however sketchy a manner! The book does not provide any insight into either K or the author and since there is still a commercial value - fast diminishing, I admit - on anything related to K and his life, Michael Krohnen has struck while the wok is hot! I belive the menus aren't very inspiring either! It is lucky for Krohnen that Krishnamurti was rather bored by food and never felt hungry! If he did Krohnen would have had short shrift! No doubt he has a lot to be thankful for in his association with Krishnamurti!
The Indian cook - whom I know personally - who used to cook for Krishnamurti while K travelled all over India, and who was also with him and not only cooked for him but also looked after him in every way when K was living in solitude, would have been able to write a much better book had he been more literate! As it is, Krohnen should have just confined himself to his cooking skills (!) but as they don't amount to very much he has ventured, unsuccessfully, into territory where he is clearly very much out of depth!
What next? A book by Krishnamurti's barber about K's futile attempts to cover his bald head with the few strands of hair that remained?

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful!
This is a wonderful book--I really enjoyed it. For those of us who never had a chance to meet K or hear him speak in person, this book is a real gem. It is full of jokes that K liked to tell and some stories he told. The author gives the reader a real sense of what it was like to interact with Krishnamurti on a casual, daily basis. This book includes some menus. No detail was too insignificant for me; therefore I couldn't put this book down. The author, Michael Kroehnen, was the cook in CA for the last 10 years of Krishnamurti'l life.

4-0 out of 5 stars A welcome (newish) book on K
K readers will enjoy some of the new facts about K. I wonder if they know that K often found eating a bore, and has also said he never got hungry? This book also reveals what dictionary K and Bohm used to form their definitions (I forget the name of it, though!) There was for example a funny story where Krohnen offered Krishnaji a book, since K was an avid reader of thrillers. K looked at the book dubiously, then told Krohnen to wash it. K didn't seem to like secondhand books because he didn't know where they had been. One negative of the book is that a lot of it is filled with jokes. K likes jokes, and that's great but I would say a good part of the book is full of these jokes, which are often quite long.

3-0 out of 5 stars A biased book
Mr Krohnen saw what he wanted to see. The problem is what he did not tell. What Mr Krohnen says is something as the official view of the foundations and schools. The book makes one doubt that Krishnamurti was ever capable of making himself understood. As far as I know, nobody around Krishnamurti became independent of Krishnamurti. Krishnamurti often said that he would never repeat anything that he did not discover by himself. The schools never produced anything but people conditioned by the teachings. I have known these people for more than 35 years. If I have to judge by them, Krishnamurti's teachings were a waste of time.On the other hand, the book gives a good view of the atmosphere around this unique person, J. Krishnamurti. ... Read more

Contact With Beings of Light is truly an amazing tale of Dorothy Wilkinson-Izatt. Using an ordinary 8 mm movie camera she has filmed hundreds of sequences of unexplained, yet authenticated, pictures of UFO’s, ETs, and anamolies.Dorothy Izatt is without peer anywhere on record in the world, even when compared to today's tabloid media with its endless loops of bizarre video footage from various places and people. Aside from the fact that electronically simulated video images aren't as yielding to analysis as the images in film photography, the obvious difference is that the footage derives from multiple sources. With Dorothy we have a credible, trustworthy, prolific source in one location - or in any location anywhere she chooses - willing to demonstrate the process for an observer. The author, Peter Guttilla has spent years sifting through photographs, movies, and taped interviews with Dorothy to produce an exceptional glimpse into her life’s work. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant journey into the past¿
When I received this book to read I placed it on my stack of books that needed to get read for school. However, once I picked this book up, school was forgotten. This book so inspired me that I took my children on vacation to Tombstone and the Bird Cage. Whether or not you believe in past lives, this book will shake you up and make you wonder... Where were you when Tombstone was young...do you know? Do you really know? Pat Berrington is a wonderful writer and if anyone can make you forget the present...she can.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Past Life Experience and Great Reading
I was totally enthralled with this book. I couldn't put it down. It brought to life the old west and the women who lived in it. Anyone who ever wonders about what the "real" old Tombstone was like needs to read this book. Don't let this one slip by you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phenominal
Fantastic book. Depicts actual lives from the 1880's, allowing you to transport back in time and see it through their eyes. Hard to put down, I re-read parts of it 2 and 3 times. It follows history and tells it like it was.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Famous Rose Callahan
The most amazing story I have ever seen unfold.

The sound of a music box releasing memories of another life - in detail which can only be described as an "eyewitness account" of the daily life of commom people in the most uncommon of places - 1880's Tombstone, Arizona.

The story is told through the eyes of Rose Callahan, a singer and lady of the night, as she struggled with life in that notorious place, while working at the Birdcage Theatre.

The writing style smoothly flows, as it draws the reader into the personal life and relationships of ordinary people in that exciting time and place.

Read this story, and see what it was truly like to be a part of that time in history - as told through the eyes of someone whom I believe was there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enthralling vision into the past
I've not often been a great fan of "historical" writing but was enchanted with Patricia Barrington's "The Famous Rose Calahan"! I am facinated by the concept of reincarnation and have listened with great interest to personal stories of spiritial and physical "Deja Vu". Ms. Barrington's writings, in a first-hand and "eye-witness" format, kept me entranced for hours. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever see spirits when you were young?
After reading Cindy Marie's book, Born With It, you would be mistaken to assume that a psychic has an easy life.In her sometimes harrowing, sometimes humorous account, she tells the story of how she dealt with her paranormal abilities while growing up, beginning with how she began to see spirits as a child. That may seem normal enough - we all `see' ghosts in the closet and 'feel' there are devils under the bed when we are young.Cindy Marie did too; only for her, they continued on through adulthood.Imagine constantly seeing goblins, trolls, evil spirits, as though you were trapped inside a Stephen King novel on a nightly basis - while your spouse is blissfully asleep next to you.Imagine also that you see premonitions of plane crashes, automobile accidents, or the image of a strange man with a wrench in your kitchen, who later turns out to be the kind and helpful plumber you hire a week later. In describing one of her visions, here she is at her most personal and laconic: "the next couple of nights, instead of angels, Jesus himself came.Talk about scared."As a reader, you nod in agreement with her, yet smile because her style is personable and friendly (and even humorous). In short, her book is an unusual, fascinating, and powerful account of how she came to understand the meaning behind her visions and premonitions - or rather, how she overcame her fears about her extraordinary perceptions, and dedicated her abilities to God and to helping people, especially helping the parents of children who may be experiencing similar types of visions that she did.And in overcoming her fears, she tells an important human story - that "there are more things in heaven and earth...than are dreamt of in your philosophy" - with elements of drama, of struggling for understanding, and of seeking wisdom from various spiritual institutions, in an accessible style that makes it seem as though she is telling her story to you during a coffee break. Her book also has pages for you to write down your thoughts and opinions about what she says, which makes her book additionally helpful towards writing your own story about how to `figure out' those strange and unusual experiences you might have had as a child, or those your children may be experiencing now.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional true story!
Cindy Marie has done an exceptional job of relating her true childhood and adult experiences with the metaphysical world. A "must read" for any parent of a chld who is experiencing seeing and speaking to unseen "friends" and deceased family members, frightening occurrences at bedtime, etc. Also a "must read" for any adult who has experienced similar happenings as a child or adult, as well as anyone interested in true stories of the paranormal/metaphysical. From goblins to levitating beds, to talking gargoyles, Cindy Marie will definitely leave you wanting more! ... Read more

Book Description

For many years Veronika van Duin has been able to see "over the river" experiencing spiritual dimensions and worlds hidden to the physical eye. With clairvoyant vision she has perceived angels and demonic beings, people who have died, and even events taking place in other parts of the world. But in 2002, with the passing of her mother Barbara Lipsker, the author’s spiritual journeys became more concentrated and frequent, and she began to see people who had recently crossed the threshold of death, including the victims of an airplane disaster and a suicide bombing.

In A Rainbow Over the River, the author tells her remarkable story, from her earliest glimpses of the other side to her most recent excursions "over the river." In the second part of the book, she records an intensely moving diary of her mother’s passing, rich in love, care, and profound understanding of suffering. She describes how, despite the sadness of losing their mother, Veronika’s family see the death as a transition to a new existence and, ultimately, as a great festival of life. In the third section of the book she speaks of her mother’s life as a pioneer of Camphill, a social movement that provides home and work for people with special needs. She also offers thoughts on birth and death, grief, healing, prayer, and the meaning of existence.

A Rainbow Over the River is a glorious celebration of life, illumined through a knowledge of death and the eternal nature of spirit. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There's more here than prophesy
The story of Edgar Cayce and other people with parapsychological ability is a most compelling and interesting phenomenon of mental capacity. That some people have this type of psychic ability demonstrates the vast power and perception of the human mind that warrants investigation. That this type of phenomena doesn't necessarily "fit" into mainstream psychological study causes severe conflict with generally accepted mainstream beliefs about the workings of the mind. As a consequence, the field of orthodox study tends to put people like Cayce into the catagory of fakes and charletans, at worst, and to ignore them at best. The study of this type of psychic phenomenon would go far in explaining the unknown regions of the mind. Scientific discovery necessitates following examples that are exceptions to the general rule. People with parapsychological powers ala Cayce provide great opportunity to track the great uncharted regions of the human psyche.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Prophet and Remarkable man
One has to consider the time this occurred and the level of education of Edgar Cayce. He was incredible and I find it sad that people reading it today are unable to grasp the importance of his work. I think this is a book all thinking people should read and understand in context. If a reader is too literally minded or unwilling to accept the possibility of miracles then (s)he should read something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars Edgar Cayce Killed People
Most dramaticly and ironcally his own son

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Puzzling life and book, successful cures from trance?
Although there is impressive testimony that many of Edgar Cayce's medical treatments proved to be successful, and are still used today, in one form or another, it boggles the scientific mind to be able to accept that such cures were imparted to Mr. Cayce through a trance like state of sleep and that during his waking hours he had no knowledge of the meaning or methods of his prescribed cures. There is much mumbo jumbo in the book, involved with trying to explain the meaning of his various predictions about the changes to take place in the world. Due to the vagueness of most of his predictions, one could pick a year and find some thing to apply it to to prove that he had great powers. His greatest supporters in today's world would seem to be the osteopaths who have successfully used his prescriptions and natural alternative treatments to help ailing patients. Would be interesting to hear a report from their view!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a great introduction to a great man. Unforgettable!
Jess Stearn's style of writing may tend to be a tad sensationalistic, but he certainly makes you think. Especially now that it is l998, reading Ch. 3 on earth changes can be a bit chilling. I love the book because it set me on the spiritual path with both feet. Edgar Cayce, the greatest prophet of our century, the Father of Wholistic Medicine and simple man with a great heart and a cosmic mind, will be a truly "real character" for you, by the time you finish this remarkable book. Thanks Jess for making him so accessible! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on Krishnamurti's life, yet!
This book is an extraordinary achievement, since it shows, for the first time ever, the very real connection there is between the theosophical movement and Krishnamurti, as well as between Krishnamurti and the ancient perennial wisdom. Sanat does this not by speculating or spinning unsupported opinions (as has been done quite dishonestly by some of his reviewers below). He achieves this by appealing by actual historical facts, by actually quoting what K REALLY said (as opposed to OPINIONS some people have formed without reference to FACTS). This is, so far, the ONLY book on Krishnamurti that addresses these issues without preconceptions, but by quoting sources and giving precise references, and by appealing to what actually happened.
Unlike every other author on this subject to date, Sanat lets his reader know when he is offering his own personal perceptions of the many facts that he marshals. When he does that, it is clear that he bends over backwards to let the reader come to his/her own conclusions.
It is unfortunate that some reviewers, who have obviously some pet theory to defend, have misrepresented the real worth of this excellent piece of research. I am particularly intrigued by the fact that the first "two" reviewers sent their messages within two days of "each other," and say pretty much the same thing. One of "them" was from "San Felipe, CA," & "the other" claims to be from New Mexico, yet does not know how to spell his own hometown, calling it "Albuquerqui." Then there is yet another reader from San Felipe, CA, writing three years later, but saying pretty much the same thing! I smell a rat!
If you are serious about understanding who K was, please do yourself a favor, and read this book. But do so with an open mind. What Sanat has achieved here is almost like solving a Zen koan: What K said was simultaneously compatible with the best that the perennial wisdom has taught throughout the ages, yet at the same time was breaking new ground, by showing us the dire need to disassociate ourselves COMPLETELY from all identifications, such as with Buddhism & Advaita Vedanta, before there can be clarity in our lives. Sanat has done a magnificent job, in showing with astonishing clarity that what has been considered incompatible, is actually eminently compatible. In doing this, he has placed K in a proper historical setting, something that had never been done before by anyone, because in order to do that, one must do the enormous work it must have taken for him to have been able to achieve this.
Contrary to what some reviewers have said, Sanat has shown how and why what really matters is that each of us engage in a transformative lifestyle. K's status, or lack thereof, is absolutely irrelevant in that quest. THAT is what Sanat makes crystal clear, unsupported criticisms of his work notwithstanding.
So do read the book. But be prepared to do a great deal of research yourself (like Sanat has done), before coming to conclusions based on previous knowledge. This book is a genuine creative effort, and deserves being read with a genuinely open mind.

2-0 out of 5 stars Title Belies Book's Hidden Agenda
The title of this book indicates that Krishnamurti had an "outer" and an "inner" life, the latter to be reveal by the author. However, it was my impression that this book is merely restatement of the old agendas of the Theosophical Society in Krishnamurti packaging, to wit: the Theosophical Society is the crucible of all esoteric knowledge; the T.S. was annointed by "Masters" unrecognized by any other faith but believed by them to rule the affairs of the world and to "save" said world; Krishnamurti was the second coming of Christ (called the Buddha Maitreya by the T.S.) appointed and trained by the Masters as the only means of world salvation in this age. Additionally, he was the sole beneficiary of the highest initiation process ever performed on a human. The author invites "positive" criticism of his ideas, but cautions that since his research is based in "fact" only, that he has no viewpoint to debate. To those who find elitist theologies appealing, this book will be intriguing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterful study of the esoteric K
A deeply thoughtful and well supported look at a previously obscured dimension of K's life. Scientifically rigorous in it's honest approach of this topic, the book is a must have for anyone who has been touched by the life of Jiddu Krishnamurti.

5-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars
The reader from Alamogordo is completely right. Several people have written bad reviews of this excellent book, giving it one or two stars, thus bringing down the number of stars for it, & giving a very distorted perception of its true worth for a potential new reader. It's OK for people to have different points of view, of course. But it is obvious to anyone who really knows the subject, that some of these reviewers are ignorant of one aspect or another of it, and/or have some pet theory to promote, & are perhaps afraid of the truths that this book shares with its readers.
This is a truly extraordinary accomplishment, because what K said has been believed to be totally incompatible with the ancient esoteric tradition. Yet Sanat shows here, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that when one looks at the FACTS and not at the repetition of unfounded rumors, it becomes clear that the two are seamlessly related. This book does require having both an open mind and having wide knowledge and understanding of the subject, which is a tall order. But it's "right on the money." Even someone without a great deal of knowledge or understanding of all the issues, but with a truly open mind, would get a great deal out of it.
This is the best book on K's life & teaching, to date.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Long Overdone Book
Let us just for a minute imagine Krishnamurti himself reading this book. Would he invite the author for tea afterwards? I think not. One can only imagine why a writer who supposedly understood Krishnamurti's ideas would be so interested in what Krishnamurti himself bent over backwards to avoid discussing. The author claims that K didn't reembrace the Theosophical Society legends surrounding his enlightnment journey to protect his devotees from their own distracting fantasies about the occult, etc. Pul-leese! Krishnamurti's neverending emphasis was on his listeners' ability to do their own investigations into what was "the case." Thereby hung their salvation from conditioning. The picture painted of Krishnamurti by some recent authors, including Sanat, has been of a secretive man interested in concealing both his so-called inner and personal lives from the spiritually unwashed masses. Perhaps, but this author does not make a convincing case for Krishnamurti as a closet Theosophist. ... Read more

Book Description

A remarkable account of a match made in Heaven

In the movie Ghost, the passionate moment when Patrick Swayze is able to reach out to Demi Moore from the other side touched people’s hearts in a way that few movies do. Does life continue after death? Can a departed loved one change the course of our lives? Send Me Someone shows us that the answer is “yes.” In this first-person memoir, Diana von Welanetz Wentworth tells the story of a powerful love affair and how it came to encompass dimensions beyond what she considered possible.

From the beginning, Diana Webb and Paul von Welanetz were a storybook couple. In the enchantment of their first days together, the two became absorbed by a chemistry that endured through twenty-five years of marriage. Diana and Paul shared everything, personally and professionally. Their passion for cooking, entertaining, and bringing people together led them to successful careers as award-winning cookbook authors, hosts of a television show, and later as founding directors of The Inside Edge, a prominent human potential organization. Regarded by friends as a perfect match, they were even named “One of L.A.’s Most Romantic Couples” by Los Angeles magazine in 1986.

But one day, in 1988, everything changed. They discovered that their adventure together was to be cut short when Paul was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Diana was devastated. In rapidly declining health, he told her, “I don’t want you to be alone.” She replied impulsively, “Then send me someone!” Paul responded, “I will.”

That promise, and its aftermath, is the extraordinary story at the heart of Send Me Someone. Diana relates how, after Paul’s death, she became aware that he was still “present” in her life and actively concerned with her well-being. Within months, fate introduced her to a new man—Ted Wentworth, a prominent attorney who had lost his wife to cancer. Ted seemed so unlike the dreamy, romantic Paul. He was realistic, funny, mischievous, even a little confrontational. But Diana soon began to appreciate Ted’s depth and wisdom, along with his edgy sense of the ridiculous. Despite their obvious differences, the two fell in love.

Ted, as it turned out, has a well-developed intuitive sense, and as their relationship developed, he revealed something that astonished Diana: he felt a startling inner connection to Paul von Welanetz! In fact, a series of remarkable occurrences soon convinced them both that Ted was indeed the “someone” Paul promised to send.

Send Me Someone is both a romantic love story and a credible account of communication with someone from “the other side.” As such, it occupies a unique niche while straddling two enormously popular genres. This inspiring book offers hope and reassurance that death is not the end.

It is an engaging, real-life tale that love, once known, never really dies. Send Me Someone is, without a doubt, the most compelling love story of the year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timely inspiration
The author tells an inspiring story of the worlds within and beyond the one we inhabit every day. She bears witness to experiences many of us have had but seldom speak of when a loved one has crossed over: the survival of the soul and the transmission of love in every-expanding ways across the thin membrane separating human consciousness from its Source. The fate-full journey which interweaves the lives of three lovers is beautifully narrated and, most especially, in these troubled times, speaks to the "unstoppable designs of destiny" unique to each of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars I needed this!
A week after my 32-year-old husband died, I walked into a bookstore and was immediately drawn to this book on display. I knew exactly what the book was about the second I looked at the cover. Although I think some of it is really "out there," Diana's story helped me to believe that my husband's spirit could exist and that he wants me to be happy, and even find love again. I have since felt my husband's presence (although not as straightfoward as Diana's experiences!) and that has brought me joy; I'm not sure I would have been as open to the experience if I hadn't first read this book. Also, I have begun a romantic relationship, and while I carry some guilt about it, it is reassuring to know about Diana's story, and how she believes her husband led her to Ted and a second chance at love. (Perhaps someday I'll write my story about all the strange and wonderful coincidences that have occurred!) Regardless of one's particular situation or beliefs, I think this is a beautiful story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Made a believer out of me!!
Even after reading this beautiful and gripping story, I can't imagine what I would do if my husband passed away. Diana is truly a strong and loving person, and her story gives me hope that life and love goes on!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE PROOF OF ENDURING LIFE IS THE BEHOLDER
This is one of 5 best books I have ever read in my life and I am 72 yrs. old. There is a wealth of books that prove (to me) that life is everlasting and what you make of life in this world is up to you..period.

This books covers the entire spectrum of life.Yearning for love and a better life, searching for occupations, success, loss ..redemption..a brand new life..friendship and all of the emotions and happenings of a life. The author has picked the right words that fit into an experience of reading perfection. She relates experiences that could be unbelievable to some, but to me are as true and life uplifting that I must sing a song of thanksgiving that I discovered this book.

If you want to read a wonderful love story and get proof of the power of love, read Send Me Someone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "You'll Love This!" Read
I climbed into bed one night intending to read several chapters and lights out at a reasonable time.I read all night long(!) and finished it about 4:00 a.m.I can remember being this engrossed only twice before -- Gone with the Wind and The Poisonwood Bible -- nosleep/all night sojourns.I laughed, cried (sobbed), and was riveted the entire night. This book may be labeled as a memoir, but it also shares suspense, poignancy, recognition, ah hah's; faith, joy, humor, and, most of all, love with the reader.I know that anyone and everyone who reads this splendid work will be similarly affected.

I see/know so many women who need to hear this story in order to be able to connect reality with what is mistakenly described as the fairy tale. This is an ongoing conversation for me with the women who claim there are no good men out there. I so agree with the author that good men are all over if we choose to see/hear them.

This book has music for me.The romantic strains of All Night Long comes up frequently, as does the shark music from Jaws with the author's father, and Ted's part, of course, evokes a lilting Baby Elephant Walk. Why doesn't this computer have musical notes so that I can illustrate my thoughts!?!?!

I had to sit down and IMMEDIATELY share how much I loved this writing (style, content, energy, warmth/ connection, and use of time (reminds me of Faulkner's Sound and the Fury).I know it will sell millions of copies and touch multiple millions of lives.

Book Description

John Dee (1527 - 1608) is most known for his work with Edward Kelley in contacting spirits and transcribing angelic language. Smith provides a clear retelling of their famous and tempestuous relationship and lays to rest some of the ridiculous stories about Dee. Charlotte Smith’s biography draws from Dee’s private diaries and several of his important works including The Book of the Mysteries and A True and Faithful Relation, bringing to light all his truly remarkable accomplishments. As a man of great learning, he fell under the suspicion of his less-gifted contemporaries and suffered rumor and even imprisonment. But for the most part, he was quite famous in his day, serving as mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer to the royal court of England. Smith credits him for initiating the creation of England’s National Library.

This is the first complete biography of the 14th-century scientist, philosopher, and magician.

Included in the book are 8 plates depicting some of Dee's works and pertinent memorabilia. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
If anything this book was about a woman going through a mid-life crisis. Not only is this book irritating, but it severely lacks in most departments. I would not recommend this particular book on walk-ins to ANYBODY. Its terrible.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Walk-In
All I can say about this book is, that is was wonderful. I wish there were more books on "Walk-Ins".

Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars I concur, amazing book!!!!!
After reading Ruth Montgomery's book on walk-ins years ago, I have always been intrigued with the idea of walk-ins. After I read Juelle's book, I was very touched by her story, her incredible honesty and straightforwardness. I knew that if I ever got the chance I'd have to meet her because I found her so inspiring. As it just so happens, I was out in Colorado for 3 weeks looking for a job, and decided to stop in Crestone and have a reading with Juelle. She is truly a wonderfully warm, caring, compassionate, giving woman and so grounded and practical. This book gives such great advice to those who are trying to grasp this concept and Juelle is truly a jewel in our midst. Thank you Juelle for you openness and compassionate heart!

5-0 out of 5 stars Some books change your life.
Some books change your life. And sometimes they're the ones you least expect to have an impact. I bought "The Walk-In" because I'd met the author when I stayed at her B & B in Crestone, Colorado. Although I'm a deeply spiritual person, I shy away from things too "New Agey," and the concept of a walk-in certainly fit that category. But I liked Juelle, and as a writer, I was curious about what she had written. Well, I started the book on the airplane, and I was riveted from the first page. Not only is the book extremely well written (something that as a creative writing teacher and an editor I very much appreciate), but it's written with such honesty and candor, that I found myself seriously considering what Juelle had to say. Now, one might say that my reaction grew out of knowing the author, but I read both the prologue and a chapter called "My Purpose" to my husband who prides himself on his scientific approach to the world ("skeptical, but not closed-minded"), and he, too, found himself considering walk-ins as a real possibility for the first time in his life. But it isn't just the way Juelle talks about the walk-in experience that makes this book so compelling. "The Walk-In" contains a philosophy for living life that one can turn to over and over again and be enriched by every time. I would love to have just the chapter called "My Purpose" in a small bedside book that I could pick up and read each night before I sleep. It is one of the most profound and powerful pieces I have ever read - a spiritual manifesto that could change the world overnight if people only had the chance to read it. Thank you, Juelle, for touching my life to the core. I will never be the same, and I'm glad for it. Namaste.

5-0 out of 5 stars A sensitive account of an unusual journey.
I was amazed and touched by the honesty of the telling of two souls' lives that met in one body. I read this book after meeting Juelle and her companion, Donovan, in person in my hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska. At the point where I read the book, I knew more about the "Council" that Juelle channels than about her. She tells her story and Shari's story in such a tender way, that admiration was the main feeling I had when I put the book down (need I say I read it in one sitting?). Also, I felt great respect for Donovan's loving acceptance of the "new" person in his life! ... Read more

Book Description

“If you want to pursue in a Western way the path that we follow here at Mirtola, you need to study and work with the Gurdjieffian teaching.”

Thus did the guru Madhava Ashish, at their first meeting, invite American businessman Sy Ginsburg on a spiritual journey that would last 19 years (until the guru’s death) and include a lengthy correspondence and annual visits to Sri Madhava Ashish’s Mirtola ashram, near Almora, in India’s Himalayan foothills.Along the way, the entrepreneur/author would not only be caught up in the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff, but also in the search for the elusive unitive vision—the world viewed from the perspective of the greater Self and not the personality.

In this remarkable spiritual document, the reader shares the search, increasingly catching glimpses of the unitive vision as the book draws toward a close that is also an opening out, into the vaster dimensions of the human mind. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars East becomes West
Sy Ginsburg went East in his search and found a teacher who came from West. Sy quotes Sri Madhave Ashish from his letters and lectures, which have a remarkable clearity, both in vision and expression. Ashish has the ability to put deep thoughts in a simple and understandable form and he does it with authority.

The book is certainly of interest for those who study Gurdjieff's ideas. The picture that Sy Ginsburg paints of himself is that of a rebel, who does not always agree with the Work authorities, but will pursue his own way. He has a good solution to the matter to be solved - he builds his own Work activity. To put it in business terms: he makes a product that satisfies the demand, which in his case is his own.

5-0 out of 5 stars A clear window to a remarkable man
This book is a compilation of letters and other interactions between the author and Sri Madhava Ashish over many years. Sri Madhava Ashish, born English, lived most of his adult life in a small ashram in the middle Himalayas, Mirtola. His approach to inner and spiritual questions was comprehensive, modern, and clear. As such it attracted a diverse community to him and to Mirtola. Ginsburg's book shows through their communications over many years the subtle, complex, yet harmonious nature of Sri Madhava Ashish's teaching, if that word can be applied here. For, rather than systematized teaching, which he abhorred, he represented a living, organic, clear yet intelligent medium between the few basic principles and their translation into spiritual practice, what he would call wisdom. Ginsburg's book is written with a light touch so that no more than is necessary of personality impinges on the always original and fresh insights going back and forth in their dialogue. There is a dialectic in the book between constant themes, both in terms of specific issues of a real life, lived, and the one source that establishes a firm foundation for their resolution. The other part of the dialectic is the original and fresh way in which these were always interpreted.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Piece of Truth
During the past decade a host of books that concern man's spiritual quest have appeared. Unfortunately, most of them focus the readers attention on conclusions, convictions and pronouncements on 'the' way to come to spirtiual fulfillment. Not so, thankfully, with Sy Ginsburg's "In Search of the Unitive Vision - Letters of Sri Madhava Ashish to an American Businessman 1978-1997". In this compact [280 pages], highly readable collection lie innumerable pearls of practical and critical advise, focusing throughout on the uniqueness of man's capacity to stand in the 'awareness that he is aware'. Refreshingly, Ginsburg does not spare himself in his selection of answers given by Ashish to his [Sy's] questions. When an author is able and willing to expose his own superficialities and recurrant inabliity to stay on track a taste of reality and the wish for truth in the spiritual pursuit is evident.
Ginsburg intersperses his lively coorespondance with a selection of of four essays by Ashish that highlight his ablility to be succinct and practical in his exploration of spiritual questions.
This book is a significant contribution to the reconciliation of the inner and outer life of man. Ginsburgs growth in Being, growth in his own pursuit of this inner-outer reconcilliation, is ably reflected in the consistancy of his search and in the perseptive help given him by this quite remarkable 'englishman-become-guide'.
The book is a gift worth sharing with all of your co-searchers.

Keith A. Buzzell, D.O.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Review of "In search of the Unitive Vision" by Ginsburg.
Books about spirituality are so common in the market these days that it becomes difficult for even a serious seeker to sort writings dealing with the real from fantasy or downright fraud. The plethora of consciously or unconsciously written mixture of truths, half-truths and lies about man's spiritual quest, nevertheless, does keep on throwing up gems about reality, even if to remind us that there IS a reality far greater and stranger than anything that the human mind can invent or discover. Seymour Ginsburg's "In Search of the Unitive Vision" is one such gem and is the story of an honest seeker after the mysteries of life and death who was lucky enough to come in contact with a remarkable man who through sheer hard work and unwavering dedication had resolved that mystery for himself and was willing to help others who wanted to do the same.
In our "global village" today, it is of significance to note that the author of the book is a successful American businessman while his mentor, Sri Madhava Ashish, was a Hindu Vaishnava monk of mixed English and Scottish descent who spent 55 of the 77 years of his life in the Himalayan foothills of India. It is the identity of the individual with the universal that needs to be experienced, Sri Madhava Ashish argues, before we can see life in its full glory through what he called the "Unitive Vision."
This excellent book can be described as the inner autobiography of Ginsburg that truly reflects the aspirations, doubts, trials and tribulations of a seeker of truth. It also asserts that the inner path is a path of self-improvement, not in the sense of acquiring any material benefits (such as name, fame, power or wealth) but improvement aimed at reaching that state of "perfection" which is the birth right of every man and woman merely because one is a human being. The search for this perfection has nothing to do with one's nationality, religion, profession, gender or cultural bias. It has very much to do with recognizing one's inevitable biases and gradually getting rid of them so that one can look at oneself in a reasonably dispassionate manner. Ginsburg brings out a very natural unfolding of the issues faced by a spiritual aspirant and does not hesitate to point out where he found that his preconceived ideas had to be abandoned when they failed the test of objective reasoning.
Any book on spirituality gets its life not only from the story of the writer but the living contact it is able to engender with a real knower of truth. Sri Madhava Ashish was such a knower and Ginsburg is able to create an atmosphere of the palpable presence of the master by providing quotations from his letters and articles.
This excellent book as a "must read" for all old and young seekers after truth all over the world.
There are a few repetitions but they seem necessary to reinforce some information which may otherwise go unregistered in the mind of the a reader; and I could find only ONE typographical error in the entire book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Journey
IN SEARCH OF THE UNITIVE VISION by Seymour B. Ginsburg is the account of the author's encounter and subsequent relationship with an extrordinarily wise teacher, Sri Madhava Ashish, who in the Western esoteric tradition would be known as an Initiate. Ashish, of Scottish descent, had spent virtually his entire adult life in India engaged in the Spiritual pursuit of the ultimate Transcendent state of Consciousness or, as termed in the book's title, The Unitive Vision where the identity of Self, the root of consciousness, with the Highest Reality is experienced. The author, who conveys his point of departure by presenting himself unpretentiously as a businessman, is initially skeptical and generally a logical positivist in his philosophical approach to life; however, following a family tragedy he sought something more than the ephemeral rewards of personal achievement. With the same great vigor and enthusiasm that had brought him worldly success, the author now began an adventure in unknown territory sparing no effort to satisfy his persistent curiosity.

The book charts the author's relationship with Ashish and his developing familiarity with esotericism, through books, contacts with important figures, channelling and membership in schools of spiritual development. This relationship was conducted over a nineteen year period through letters and yearly visits; the corpus of letters captures the thrust and depth of Ashish's teaching and documents his generosity and guidance in reponse to Mr. Ginsburg's probing questions about mediums, the collective unconsciousness, personal dreams, and inner experience. Gems of knowedge are conveyed throughout the letters i.e.Ashish's observations on the relationship of movements to the alterations in consciousness.

Ashish is a master therapist as well as a Spiritual Master and guides the author through the territory of his personal issues, psychological defenses and identifications to achieve an integration of heart and mind. Ashish repeatedly stresses the importance of first hand experience which cannot be gotten from books or personal contact with those who have experienced something of a higher nature even though they might provide inspiration and motivation. He directs the author to relax his logical mind which has served him so well, bringing him to the quest, but now would hinder him from opening to That Reality which is beyond his security net. The author joined and later became a facilitator in a Gurdjieff group, a leader of a Theosophical study group, and organized yearly conferences where the key ideas of Gurdjieff were discussed and eminent Gurdjieff scholars participated and submitted manuscripts that were later published. The letters document Ashish's observations on these activities but also document Ashish's unrelenting message that the path is inward even if group activity might enhance the integration of the personality and generate motivation.

I would highly recommend this book which in a wonderfully accessible and articulate manner brings to us the teaching of an exemplary Man as well as the record of a seeker's developing awareness . The message will greatly contribute to the understanding of the well-seasoned seeker as well as someone who is embarking on the spiritual journey with skepticism and diffidence. The approach, façade and substance of Ashish's teaching is utterly nondenominational and the message does not violate the tenets of any religion because of the respect shown to the essential undergirding of all approaches to spirituality which is Love, the most direct means to transcendence. ...
