3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
Aside from the poor grammatical style of the book (the editor ought to have his/her english degree revoked!) I thought the book was not bad. I tend to disbelieve anything I read about any celebrity and actively avoid celebrity gossip, but I couldn't help myself on this book.
This book reads more like a confessional at times than an expose of Eminem's life, and there are certain areas in relation to his dating life that make me suspect to Watkins motivations, but I agree that it seems this rap star has more people hanging on to him for his money than anything. This book reminded me why I would never want to be famous.
I would've given it 4 stars, but, again, the grammatical errors glared out at me too often.
Faith McLaughlin - a.k.a "nobody" ...

1-0 out of 5 stars English Composition 101
There is a large amount of required learning needed.

I hope her 1 1/2 minutes of fame was worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A totally different perspective
Cleaning out my Closet is quite short and it's obviously self-published and went out without much editing.... BUT, the typos and poor syntax do not detract from the fascinating story JR Watkins has to tell. It's a refreshing story that talks about Eminem's life from all angles and aspects. Cleaning Out My Closet is not a history of Eminem; it's a memior of a friend of his who was privy to the inner working of his life for a few years at the height of his fame. This is not a hatchet-job -- it's an honest, gritty, and often heartwarming story of a dad, a rapper, a husband, and a friend. There are some interesting photos from the author's personal collection, as well. Definitely worth buying for fans of Em.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't bother
I wouldn't even bother buying this book-and that says a lot considering I'm a HUGE Eminem fan...The author can't even string together a sentence, let alone keep you entertained for an entire book!
I hear there's one coming out in the Fall by that Rolling Stone writer, Anthony Bozza. MTV says it's the more "intellectual one," looking at Eminem's role in hip-hop, etc. He wrote that first Eminem cover story-and in my opinion it's the best friggin' article I've ever read!! He did another one at the time of the Eminem Show. I'd save my money for that one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Say What?
Where to begin? First and foremost the english usage in this book is horrendous. Is this book interesting? Well, that all depends on how one would define "interesting". If women who use abortions as birth control, and mothers who like to party, and use illegal drugs sound cool, then yes, you will find this book interesting. Give me a break! I will give J.R. some credibility though, at least she had enough balls to tell the world what a... bag, alcoholic Em's ex-wife is. I don't understand the whole concept of telling an entire population of avid readers about yourself doing drugs, for your kids to read? Yes, sadly they will eventually, thus perpetuating the nasty, evil cycle all over again. Supermom, I think not, unless acting like a repressed, drug loving adolescent is cool to your prepubescent children. The moral of the story, sad, but true Marshall needs to leave Kim alone, I will agree with the author on that point. If even half of the stories about Kim are true, no, I take that back, even one, what ... is he doing? There are far better women out there. Women who don't come onto anything that even looks like a man. I understand where the thought process was going, although I am somewhat jaded at how I look at Eminem, I just don't understand why one person would tolerate the behavior of someone who is close to you, why even be close to anyone if your choice was Kim? Overall, worth taking a look at, if for nothing else to remind yourself how sane, normal, respectable, you actually are. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Book
This is one of the most unusual show business biographies I've ever read. I loved it. Somehow this writer makes you understand how a phenomenon like Madonna happens, and then makes you feel as if you really are inside Madonna's head, experiencing her life as she lived it. The book has lots of gossip, but it has something I liked even more, which is a bigger picture of how Madonna reflects what's happening in the world around her, which made me understand completely the loyalty of her fans. The personal story is really moving. I especially liked the section about how the loss of Madonna's mother affected her and the direction of her life. Most books about stars don't really tell you much about the star, or how we relate to them. This one does both. It's fun to read and when I finished it I felt like every second had been worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Human Side of Divinity
For any Madonna fan, or anyone fascinated by the phenomenon.
I loved this book. It is filled with insights and details from
Madonna's life that the other books missed or simply left out because they only
want to praise the Material Girl. The information from Madonna's family is worth the price of the book alone. Victor also draws amazing parallels between
Madonna's life and Evita's, but she adds many more helpful
comparisons and critiques that make this book the one to read. It's the best of both worlds--dishy and smart.

1-0 out of 5 stars Blatant muck raking.
I think it is absolutely pointless purchasing this book, I am not interested in knowing the ins and outs of someone's private life...would anybody want to inquire and go through a regular persons dirty laundry? no of course not..So why should anyone do it with Madonna? it seems like a futile attempt to muck rake if you ask me, same with other books like it. What's more, muck raking to make $$$$ from dragging Madonna's name through the mud. I bet this lady probably didn't even speak to anyone connected with Madonna but instead trawled through all the old tabloid papers relying on those soley to fill up her stupid book. She should find another way of making money, the woman is clearly clutching at straws and is desperate to make any buck through Madonna.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woah.
Look at the cover. Isn't that reason enough to get this?

2-0 out of 5 stars Skip this one
This book was indeed quite a challenge to finish and would have been greatly improved by a more rigorous editing job. The writer's transitions between ideas were practically non-existent -- a frequent tactic of the author's was to describe an anecdote and then "analyze" it, but the analysis often left me totally baffled, since the writer did not take the time to explain why she came to her conclusions -- as if describing the anecdote was enough to make its (apparently one-and-only) "meaning" obvious. And I deeply distrust any biography that describes what the subject was thinking when she was alone, especially when the subject did not cooperate with or directly contribute to the writing of the book. And Ms. Victor got several of her facts wrong, which does not lend credence to her speculations -- "You Must Love Me," for example, was written for Madonna in Evita, and so it sounds silly for the writer to say Madonna made it her own, since she was the only one who has performed it so far. The writer also defines "los descamisados" as "the shiftless ones," when it actually means "the shirtless ones," although that could have been a typo -- again, something that careful editing would have caught. Evita, in fact, is referred to on almost every page and the writer's comparisons of Madonna to Eva Peron run the gamut from tedious to unintentionally hilarious.

I also bought Andrew Morton's book, and it will be interesting to read the two biographies back-to-back. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's Paul?
I'll keep it short. I have only read half of this book so far, and can not adequately convey how annoyed I am that this definitive biography appears to have been written without interviewing this LIVING musical genius. When not citing the many Brits who put Paul up for the night (or the week, or the month, etc.) during his wanderings in England, there is only filler in the form of unremarkable prose; was Paul Simon interviewed for this book? I will have to trudge through the second-half of the book to find out. Very disappointing use of the word definitive in the title.

3-0 out of 5 stars Did not meet expectations
As someone who has a lot of respect for Paul Simon's musical and lyrical ability, I was interested in reading a his biography. However, reading this book has been an exercise in frustration. It is filled with overwrought prose and speculation about what motivates his writing. I have learned some of the details of the timeline of his development as a writer, but I can't read more than about 8-10 pages without getting annoyed and putting the book down. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Biased P.O.V
i totally agree with kimberly meredith! This book was clearly written from a one-sided p.o.v, with ms campbell portraying a one-sided argument, defending mj.

J Randy Taraborelli's book is much better, giving readers a more 3-D insight into the life of mj.

4-0 out of 5 stars Michael Jackson~The King Of Pop's Darkest Hour
I've read most books about Michael Jackson. Like many people, he absolutely fascinates me. This book was one of the best I've read about him. The author seems to be pleading for sympathy about the allegations against him for being a child molestor. She has written two books about him and I think if she continues, her next book will be even better. I think we all want details about this mysterious icon. It was a very good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not at all disappointed
On the contrary to not so popular but very exploited tabloid coverage of the whole "Michael Jackson Scandel", Lisa Campbell comes out with the facts of the case in and out of itself and things that people do need to realize about the whole situation as a whole. Michael's intense love for the children of the world because of his own inner personality of being a child-at-heart became a fault to everyone else through this extortion attempt.

Ms. Campbell presented the facts between the TWO trails that were occuring at the time, not just one, and shows Michaels undeniable innocence all the way. Her unwaning support of Michael is echoed throughout the world with the minds and voices of the fans that really care about Michael.

The story was intriguing and very sad as well. It's appalling to think that such a kind and shy person as Michael Jackson could be subjected to such harmful persecuting, and I have to admit that the story was compelling enough to make one not only feel for Michael, to sympathize, but to also feel his own pain and just begin to imagine what agony he could have felt at the time, and even to this very moment. It made me choke up, and I could not put down this book.

This is a wonderful biography on Michael's "Scandelous" moments, and it totally proves Michael Jackson, again and again, that he has always maintained his innocence, and will always. Magnificant!

2-0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTED!
Ms. Campbell wrote this book as if she has a personal axe to grind. Instead of stating the facts about this unfortunate
conspiracy to discredit the intrigity of Michael Jackson.
She came across as being unnessasarily defensive. Although I
can appreciate her desire to come to the defense of Mr. Jackson,
She wrote this book out of emotion instead of taking a more
professional approach to make her point. If you desire to know
Michael Jackson better I highly recommend J. Randy Taraborelli's

Michael Jackson-The Magic and the Madness. It's a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars i enjoyed this book
the media found michael jackson guilty and still carries that over his head.i'm glad mrs.campbell comes out and gives a fair side of the story.journalism has gone down the toilet for me.they will write and say anything to sell a paper.michael maintained his innocence and should be allowed to continue with his life.i hope she writes another book on mj.the next one back on music. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars For The Truly-Devoted BSB Fan Only
The book is nicely put together, but the quizzes are silly and outdated, and the photos have already been printed hundreds of times elsewhere. Nothing new here, but true BSB fans/collectors may want/need to have this book anyway.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay

I hope that you will save your money and get a book like Backstreet Boys: Giving It Their All By: Sheri Rifkin, or if you are really smart, THE OFFICIAL BOOK, WRITTEN BY THE BSB!

That is written by the Bakstreet Boys, so you know that all of the information will be accurate. All of the information that I have read in this book I had already known, and I have only been a fan for about a year. I hope that you take my advise and get their new book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
When i first bought this book, i was thinking "ok this is going to be such a disappointment" But as I read on, i began to learn more about christina. Stuff that i never knew before (and i saw the christina mtv specials too!) The pictures in this book is great, and she even reviewed each song on her album. What i didn't like about the book is the fact it doesn't have more of her personal commentary. It is bascially a fact type book. But the pictures in that book is great! All in color and it even teaches you how to send mail to christina!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Colorful Book!
This is a very good book with lots of info on Christina. In my opinion, the best part about this book is the pictures of Miss Aguilera. From past to present, this book makes Christina look sensational!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book For The Fan To Get To Know Christina With.
Unlike all those teen magazines which make teen stars seem infallable and utterly perfect, this book does not do that. What you get is a narrative about a human being (a darn good-looking one if I do say so) like you. OK it does get a little bit out of line (that is why it got 4 stars) but it still is relatable, and that is what I like. Teens need role models to look up to and young stars like Christina, Britney or the Backstreet Boys do fill that need to some extent. If only the media would not blow them out of proportion. I give props to this book for NOT doing that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jackie Robb is the greatest writer since sliced bread.
I read Jackie Robb's Britney book and I just had to read what she said about Christina! Even though Britney is better, we still like Christina and this book tells all! I think everybody should read about Christina and want to be like her! ... Read more

Excerpted from Touched By The Jacksons by Phoenix. Copyright © 1998. Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved From Prelude: Awesome! I couldn't believe my eyes! Nothing could have prepared me for what I had just witnessed. I sat on the floor in front of our floor model TV with my mouth gaping open and my eyes fixated on the TV screen watching what was about to influence me for the rest of my life. I was mesmerized - this was the greatest thing I had ever seen in my whole life! I was watching "The Ed Sullivan Show" and these five young brothers from Gary, Indiana just blew me away with their dance steps, their costumes, their energy, their screaming fans! This was the national television debut of the Jackson Five and I'll never forget it. As the Jackson brothers performed a great rendition of Sly and the Family Stone's song entitled "Stand," their funky choreographed steps and perfectly harmonized singing had captivated me. As I watched the young, lead singer, better known as Michael Jackson, pour his heart out to the lyrics of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' hit song "Who's Loving! You," I could only imagine the hysterical girls screaming and going crazy over him! I knew right then and there that I wanted to be a "star," just like one of the Jackson Five. After experiencing and seeing what effect the Jackson Five had on their fans, I realized at age 5 that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to do what they did: make people happy, bringing fulfillment and joy, to my adoring, screaming fans all over the world.

From that moment on, I became a true fan, tuning in to everytelevision show that they were appearing on, including their ownSaturday morning cartoons, and buying fan magazines and everythingelse I could find with their names plastered on it. I remember eatingbowls upon bowls of cereal just to get to the cut out cardboardrecord of the Jackson Five on the back of the box! And fighting withmy 7 siblings because I didn't want to share them with anyone! Afterall they were America's first Black, young, "Bubble gum," teen idol,heart-throbs, and above that they were gifted and talented far beyondtheir years. These 5 young brothers were definitely here to stay formany years to come. They put so much heart and soul into theirperformance, individually and collectively, and generated so muchpower that you couldn't help but be absorbed by their talent, charm, and love like it was osmosis. I thank God for the Jacksons becausetheir American Dream was a dream come true. I thank all of theJacksons for making the dream a reality because I have been Touchedby the Jacksons. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MY CHOICE for Oprah's Book Club's "Pick of the Month!"
An awesome book! Phoenix has captured the distinctive magic that only the Jacksons possess in all their glory. Their life story is truly an American Dream come true! Phoenix does a wonderful job intertwining the Jacksons career into his own life, and unravels a new appreciation and admiration of the Jackson family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Touched and Cured by the Jacksons!
Touched by the Jacksons is not just for Jackson fans, but everyone. As we go through many stages of life, we experience good times and unfortunately bad times. At some point in time we need something to cling to. For the author, the Jacksons were the remedy! For once you not only are touched by the content, but you are able to relive the Jackson heydays all over again.

4-0 out of 5 stars "This Book Will Touch You As Well"
Think of it as parallel lives. A young man from Brooklyn who grows up worshipping the Jacksons and is able to parlay that worship into a career as a Michael Jackson impersonater. Phoenix does a masterful job transporting you back to the late 60s, early 70s, so you are right there as the Jacksons begin their climb to fame How his love of the Jacksons, and becoming a performer just like them, shaped his life. Allowed him to survive growing up in a climate of drugs and assorted family tragedies. The journey from youth to manhood, with all its successes and dark times, is gripping. Sometimes even mirroring the trials and tribulations of the Jackson family. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!
This book was really great. I love Brandy and it told me a lot about her life and how hard she worked to be a singer. I liked how it covered so much about her early life and her family, too. It was very easy to follow and the pix are excellent. Definitely five stars! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A fine overview
Celine may not quite be the greatest writer of the twentieth century (though he's certainly damned good), but he gets my vote hands down for most interesting. The man was a complete enigma; an endless pile of contradictions. Vitoux, to his credit, does not try to provide a pat 'answer' to the unanswerable questions of the man's life, but if you want a detailed look at what actually happened, you'll certainly find it here. Vitoux writes with a passion and intensity befitting his subject, peppering the book with quotes from Celine's books and letters, as well as those of many other important people in his life. But, it must be said, the REAL treat to be found here is probably the photo section, which features several pictures of Celine with his beloved Bebert--it's truly a sight to see this battered, disreputable-looking guy with cat contentedly dozing on his lap. Recommended to all Celinians. ... Read more
