3-0 out of 5 stars Good to know Sir Alex, Not for learning manegerial technic
Originally, I was keen to learn how Sir Alex F. have made the Man United Team in to world class and a successful one in term of trophies winning and also building up the Man United brand.

However , the book allocate huges space in telling stories of what were going on , how Sir Alex comment about it and how people involved comment about it. In managerial point of view , the book tells me a lot about Sir Alex F.'s caring and his aggressiveness to people under and around him , his determination, discipline , passion and his aggressiveness in achieving his goals and how he uses his anger to get his goals achieved. They are about his characters but not managerial technic that I was looking for.

I want to say here that I am not commenting this book against the book's title or objective but reviewing the book against my own requirement on my Management Technic learning.

Therefore , my last words are this book is good for people who want to learn his life, his view, his personality , Manchester United Team history which I have learned a lot from the book. But I learn not much about Sir Alex's great thoughts behind his great moves he have been making to make the team successful.

At the end, the book made me "in to" the English football industry more that I have ever been. ... Read more

Book Description

This is the inspiring story of Michelle Akers, a member of the thrilling 1999 USA Women’s World Cup championship soccer team, who battled phenomenal odds to triumph on the field and in her faith. In the summer of 1999, the U.S. women’s soccer team stole the hearts of the nation when they captured the Women’s World Cup in a glorious victory over China before 90,000 spectators at the Rose Bowl. The popularity of soccer in America soared to unprecedented heights, and the 1999 team members became instant celebrities and role models, with midfielder Michelle Akers (whom the New York Daily News called "the ultimate symbol of the U.S. women’s National Team") leading the way.Thirty-three-year-old Akers is arguably one of the greatest female athletes of all time. In this book she tells her inspiring story of conquering enormous obstacles in both her personal life and her sports career. A mysterious illness that threatened to end her athletic career and an early divorce shattered her, but also led her back to a faith she had abandoned in her youth. She has battled so many injuries that Time magazine called her "an orthopedic disaster." On top of all she has suffered for eight years with a severe case of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. Still she persevered. "She’s the best woman that’s ever played the game, period," U.S. coach Tony DiCocco told New York Times. "Michelle Akers inspires me."Michelle will also inspire readers as she tells of discovering true strength in the midst of debilitating weakness. "God’s been lifting me out of my mess day-by-day ever since I made the decision to welcome him back into my life," she writes. This is more than just an action-packed read for sports fans. It’s also an honest, page-turning autobiography of a remarkable young woman’s uplifting story of commitment, perseverance, and faith. ... Read more

Book Description

A Seat in the Crowd is about travelling the length and breadth of England and Europe to watch Manchester United. It is about the lifelong journey of two supporters (with the help of one or two friends along the way) who have been following their club for over 40 years each.

Back in the days when we both started watching football, a seat in the crowd was for the gentry and not the likes of the two of us. Nowadays we are all expected to sit in the crowd, although some of us still like to stand! It can get confusing when we are expected to sit down in the Stands and only stand on the terraces. But there are no more terraces in the Premiership to stand on, so we stand in the Stands in front of our seats instead - when we are allowed to that is!A Seat in the Crowd is about travelling the length and breadth of England and Europe to watch Manchester United. It is about the lifelong journey of two supporters (with the help of one or two friends along the way) who have been following their club for over 40 years each.

At the start of any season no-one can possibly know the outcome. Plenty think they do, but that is mere blind faith. It is an adventure which happens every year and these last few years have been very special to United supporters and most especially to us, due to the superb management of Alex Ferguson, who has taken the team, and consequently us too, to heights never before scaled.

This book represents a whole season, the season 1999-2000 seen from our viewpoint as fans. It contains not simply accounts of games and experiences relating to the games themselves, but also includes comment on all the major issues affecting football fans today from the viewpoint of match-going fans. Not the middle-class Nick Hornby, nor the "lads" getting drunk and involved in violence, but ordinary fans whose experience mirrors that of thousands of football fans all over the UK. ... I can't recommend this book stronger. For Manchester United fans it's theopportunity to follow a year with the side from the untainted by the PLCview of the supporter. For Reds abroad, it serves as the perfect reminderof home. For non-United or those not football supporters it's a chance tounderstand what we go through.Well written and personal, Paul and Lindahave created a book you'll want to dip into time and time again. ...
