This book is excellent! As a long time RSI sufferer, I found this book to be a great source of information and hope. It is very well written, and it is clear that the authors have an extremely thorough understanding of repetitive strain injuries. The book describes a theory of how RSI develops, and how it can be treated most effectively. I also learned quite a bit from the case studies of six RSI patients, and was heartened by their successful recovery. Most importantly, the authors outline a very practical and understandable treatment approach. I am now following this suggested treatment, and am very optimistic that I will recover from my four-year battle with RSI. If you have a computer-related injury, I recommend that you buy this book now!

As a computer professional for the last 15 years or so I have come to understand, first hand, the concepts presented in this book. Presented here is a method to repair and prevent damage caused by repetitive strain injuries in the work place that involves no drugs or surgery! This book is a must read for anyone who works with computers on a regular basis, whether they are currently feeling painful symptoms or not. The simple stretching and ergonomic suggestions in the book will help keep the strain injuries away, and the comprehensive diagrams for self administering many of the muscle based massage technics can be quite helpful to those with pain who do not have the time for regular Physical Therapy visits for similar or even less effective treatments. Once the pain is gone, the previous ergonomic and stretching methods can be used to help keep one relatively pain free depending. of course on one's future vigilance. As someone who relies solidly on my hands and ability to perform detailed work each day for my profession and my hobbies, this book is a godsend. When my own painful symptoms began appearing, my fears of surgery and possible loss of mobility were left behind by this new method to resolve problems that many computer users face. To go one step even further, It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is written in language that does not require a medical degree to understand and gain benefit from it. Did I mention that no surgery is involved? :) All in all an excellent resource.

This is a terrific book. I've been an RSI sufferer for eight years and it's the best I ever read. Damany & Bellis stay humble about the things they don't know.

They provide just enough structural and physiological information to help the reader anchor themselves in a real understanding what's going on. A lot of the books spew out a lot of muscle names and nerve names kind as a way of groping for credibility, without really making sure that information is something the person can use.

They're open to the ambiguity, and lay out alternative explanations, for some of the big imponderables in RSI -- such as why some people get injured others don't, or why some recover and others don't.

They have pretty darn good descriptions of the nerve glides and stretches and so forth that a person needs to do. One of my great frustrations with even skilled physical therapists is that they describe a stretch and then walk away, without giving the patient good instructions that that they can follow when they get home.

The most important thing of all is this: the book seems honest and clearheaded and genuine, and it's clear that they're really interested in helping to move the ball forward in understanding RSI.

I've just finished reading It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!, and I'd like to congratulate you on an immensely readable, reasonable, and informative book.

I've been coping with computer-related repetitive strain injury for over ten years, with this progression of diagnoses: bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, epicondylitis, and thoracic outlet syndrome. I've also recently been diagnosed with Dupuytren's contracture (more in the right hand than the left). Only voice-recognition software has allowed me to continue in my work as editor and writer.

I helped start an RSI discussion group at the university where I work some years ago, though it's no longer active. It was quite a mix of people, both faculty and staff, all bright people, and all pretty seriously affected by RSI. Hands down, we felt Pascarelli and Quilter's book Repetitive Strain Injury: A Computer User's Guide was the best source of information we had. How I wish we'd also had It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome! back then, too. It's the first book I recommend now.

Again, thank you so much for your fine book.

I really enjoyed the voice and details of this book. It conveyed a much better understanding of the underlying problems to all the pain I was going through, repeatedly. Simply understanding the fact that I have to maintain my body, do things to help it repair itself from the damage I do to it on an everyday basis really helped me figure out what I had to do to be pain free.

This book offers very clear, respectful advise and case studies. It shows that the symptoms can vary according to the severity of the cause and how people's bodies are built. No Instant Cure, no promises, but it does give a very useful, general approach to how to understand and manage the overall problems. ... Read more

This book tells you how to do everything! It can be used by both students and professionals. This book has everything from how to properly use a comma to writing bibliographies; from how to use photographs in presentations and documents to writing resumes. This guide gives you hints on how to manage meetings effectively. I use this book at both work and home. People come to me to borrow this fantasic book constantly. I have the CD installed on my computer and love using the program - it is very user-friendly. I don't think any student or office should be without this wonderful tool.

I recently purchased the Covey Style Guide with CD Rom. The CD rom, after installation, wouldn't come up. I phoned Covey's 800 number and got bounced around to several people who said I had to go online for help, or else give my credit card up front for a minimum of $20 service charge. Their online system supposedly has a technician online, but I kept getting the message "Sorry, sometimes the system cuts of the reply. Please resend."

This is was too weird for me. This is not my idea of customer service!

It is easy to understand, has great examples, covers all imaginable aspects of written communication, and - the best - it comes with exhaustive coverage on a CD.

This is a great reference tool for anyone starting out in the technical communications field! This book is very user friendly. It's apparent once you start flipping through the pages. All the topics, such as, "Editing and Proofreading," "Page Layout," and "Word Problems," are organized in alphabetical order and printed on the outside edge of the page's header in large easy-to-read font. I also appreciate the way each topic has the keypoints summarized at the beginning with numbers that corresponds to an in-depth discussion of the keypoints. I teach a master's level course in facilitation and team dynamics. Justice and Jamieson is by far the most useful and popular book in that course. Students use it heavily in designing facilitation processes during the course, and I hear them recommending to others that they KEEP their J&J handy because they'll continue to use it. Especially helpful: the quick overviews of group dynamics, overt/covert issues, team member roles, leadership processes. It helps to provide this background knowledge for the students. The options and explanations list many more choices and rationales than usually seen in a book like this. Examples: multiple approaches to brainstorming, agenda development, session evaluation, interventions to manage conflict, etc. J&J's second edition (if there is one) could be a little slicker, but you wouldn't have to change much content except perhaps to have an added section on virtual facilitation. Enjoy!

Most comprehensive book on the topic I've seen. Very practical info. I interned with a small consulting firm that did excellent facilitation work, but their only training strategy for facilitation was "watch what I do and then do it" -- no real framework for a beginner. I wish I had known about this book; it put it all into logical structure and process, and allowed me to make sense of what I had seen a few times as a beginner. I've used its many practical checklists to become a respected facilitator, and still improving thanks to this manual.

This books is a "manual" on facilitation that prepares you very quickly. Great examples, good checklists, good index - well worth the price. My only quibble is a small one: charge a few dollars more and improve the paper and printing quality.

Kidder's book essentially boils down any tough choice down to basic conflicts, a struggle for competing "rights" or things we value. We value loyalty, for example, and we value honesty...what happens if I know my spouse is cheating on our taxes or from their company?

This is a nice, short book that anybody could read and get something useful out of. To help potential readers, I will clarify a little about the book. In many ways, it is not a book about decision making per se, but rather ethics and decision making. As such the title doesn't quite fit: perhaps it should be called how good people -should- make tough choices. Given that the emphasis of the book was somewhat different than expected, Kidder made a decent book out of the general topic of ethics. Not arcane in any way, chock full of examples and designed to be user-friendly. A great book for "lay persons" who are nonetheless quite familiar with decisions that have ethical implications and need to make them on a regular basis.

The book addresses the issue of how to make change effective from a variety of viewpoints, including "war stories," a model of the different levers available to leaders, and an academic framework. I can also see that a workshop that lets one "twiddle the knobs" in Dr. Shapiro's model would be very helpful in understanding the interactions of the different levers for organizational change.

Taylor Cox Jr. and Ruby L. Beale offer readings, case studies and structured activities for developing individual and organizational diversity skills. The readings often focus on specific groups, but the underlying ideas can easily be extended to others. I would much rather have someone else give the presentation, to be quite honest. So, I am giving this book to my husband. I thought the information in the book was practical and it enourages preparation. There is a section on how to reduce your fears of speaking in public.

Knowing your audience, dealing with logistics, knowing your location, clarifying objectives, finding material, structuring material, writing a presentation, using audio-visual aids, rehearsing, preparing yourself and enhancing your body image are all good points. The avoiding bad habits section was especially good. I mean, if you stand in front of the baord, who can see it? If you slouch, it looks unprofessional.

It all sounds so complicated...can't we just all head for the beach. ;> But seriously, this is a fun book filled with basic information for those who have to make presentations to keep others informed about business decisions.

This books isn't a bad purchase for the price...it's a low cost, handy reference. It is worth the cover price, but most of what it teaches, I have already learned through attending that High Priced University and by joining the Military (Death by Power Point!) I guess it always helps to have a refresher course, and something to refer to in a tight spot.
