5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Customer Service Related Book...Ever
This is simply the greatest book ever on how to treat customers the way they should be treated, how to handle potential problems, and how to capitalize on it all. In the future, I will be sure to use the practical, no-nonsense advice given by Michael LeBoeuf. His business management and customer service related masterpieces should make up any part of a manager or sales analyst/manager's business bookshelf. His books are not only helpful to those with their own business or those involved with sales or managing a business, but are important for use in everyday life and how to treat people. The popular mantra associated with this book is simple, yet profound: "What gets rewarded, gets done".

5-0 out of 5 stars Small Busines Owners Manual
This is an absolute must read for all small busines owners. I've had my own small manufacturing business for 19 years and I can assure you - THERE IS SO MUCH TRUTH IN THESE PAGES THAT YOU IGNORE IT AT YOUR OWN PERIL. Plus, Michael Leboeuf is a excellent writer. Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every small business owner should read this book!
One of the deadliest mistakes in small business (even worse in large corporations) is to ignore your "back end" sales. By "back end" I mean additional (larger) sales made to your customers.

The only way to continue to market to your customer base is if they are happy with you. Dr. Michael LeBoeuf has spelled out a plan for turning "satisfied" customers (those quiet customers who never complain) into "loyal" customers (those customers who are hyper-responsive to your offers).

I especially enjoyed the startling statistics in the "Something to Think About" section. It points out in a dramatic fashion just how much money dissatisfied customers can be costing your business and how hard it is to detect unhappy customers.

I give this book my highest recommendation...especially to small business owners.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money
This is merely common sense stuff folks. I really felt cheated when I listened to it. It bored me out of my skull. I would prefer listening to Jack Welch 50 times in a row than have to hear the plodding, mono-tone, comon sensical tripe that's on these. Nothing new or innovative. Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars You never know how valuable the people you meet can be.
Harvey MacKay talks about how using your rolodex can keep you in touch with people who someday will turn into an incredible asset. He tells the story how he got his first book published as an unknown author by Simon & Schuster. This is just because of all the people he knew and kept in contact with. The stories about Bill Clinton and George Bush are priceless.

The ideas I got out of the tape have increased my knowledge about power relationships. Now with the power of email, my network has blossomed into an incredible force that keeps doors open for present and future business.

Also, Harvey has great reading style. I have listened to this tape at least 6 times in the last 8 months. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Material
Accomplishing goals, living a worthwhile life, and getting along with other people are all part of McGinnis' stragetgy for living abundantly. Optimism is an intangible force that has practical consequences. McGinnis describes it as a "can-do" philosophy. A quote he takes from William James brings the theme of individual control out even more when he writes "The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind." McGinnis argues that this mind-set can result in people being elevated to the top of their fields. In part this is because activity results when people are optimistic. Without action entropy causes a system to break down. It is through active involvement that entropy is successfully overcome. Activity is stimulated as optimists create and maintain synergy with like minded associates. Reading is another form of stiumlation found among this group. Even more important than relationship maintainence and good reading, McGinnis stresses the importance of prayer. Optimistic achievers are perpetually young regardless of their chronological years he points out because "regardless of their age, they have a stubborn belief that their personal best is yet to be." More good news is reported in that optimism can be leaded. He says he read almost a thousand biographies and analyzed the lives of many successful people before drawing the conclusions he makes in this wonderful book. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful...!
... I have found this book is such an amazing one. Doctor McGinnis is such a wonderful psychiatrist. Listenning to his audiobooks made me feel delighted, more positive about my life and everything around me. I just wanted to say "Thanks" to him. I have learned much from it. Everything that he mentioned and taught was not only for depressed individuals but for the optimistic persons as well. I hope he could continue to write books and have more audiobooks available for all of us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a 21-week biblical study of Maxwell's leadership laws
Here John Maxwell has expanded his 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership into a 21-week study, using different biblical characters to illustrate each one of the 21 laws. Each week is broken down into five days, making it an excellent workplace study.

Lessons from Days 1 through 4 start with a thought for the day and a biblical passage, then close with a question for you to reflect on. Day 5 summarizes the week in brief sections that help you to absorb the week's material, sort it out, pray through it, apply it to your own life, and pass it on to another leader.

Obviously, this book is not aimed at the secular crowd, and is much more beneficial to those who have read the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. If you enjoyed the 21 laws and are comfortable with scripture, this study will dramatically enhance your ability to prayerfully apply the laws to your life and the lives of those around you. A great resource for Christian leaders.

Larry Hehn, author of Get the Prize: Nine Keys for a Life of Victory

4-0 out of 5 stars another book similar to his other books
|-POSITIVE-|
I think this is a great book if you never read a book on leadership, or if you never read any of his other books. Actually, having read at least 4 other books on leadership written by this same author, this one is one of his better books. I think this book will go well with his other book, "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership."

Some of my favorite quotes from this book,
* If you reproduced yourself in another leader, would you be pleased with the results?
* Don't wait until you hold a leadership position to begin building your inner circle
* People teach what they know, but they reproduce what they are.
* Do no limit your people, lift them.
* Your inner circle should make you more complete

|-NEGATIVE-|
Oh how I hate it, I read 5 of his books on leadership, and they all share very similar information. If you read his other books, you probably will not find many new ideas here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for small group study!
I led a group from my company through this 21 week study of leadership. Very informative and thought provoking. If you decide to lead a similar group, I recommend you also read The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership at the same time. It will provide you a good deal of additional discussion ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yeah, it's good.
You get used to seeing these types of books, which are frequently given as gifts by people who have no idea what you really like or need to read. Which is where I got this. But it's not bad.

Take Hudson Armerding's book "Leadership," and fuse it with Roger Ailes's book "You are The Message: Getting what you want by being who you are" and cut it up into templated nuggets keyed to periodic readings, and something like this is what you might get. The difference, qualitatively, is that Maxwell has really worked his leadership examples from the Bible, and for the most part keeps them in historic context while pulling out lessons for contemporary application. In the flyleaf/back pages, you can see how he is hawking the same things on a web site and on a tape series, to transform these lessons into sermons for ministers who need a little defibrillation.

Having read James MacGregor Burns on "Leadership" some years ago, and being impressed ever since (although bothered by the weird Oedipal analyses Burns applied to guys like Gandhi, Martin Luther and others), Maxwell is refreshingly Biblical without being too preachy. Non-Christian or Non-Jewish readers should be able to see things in here other than some former Bible-college student constantly telling us how he revitalized the three churches he pastored before becoming a fund raising consultant and a leadership conference organizer. The book gets beyond that and stays on point.

This is a sign that Christian business/leadership writing is coming into its own. Looking at a lot of other leadership books which grope for an over-arching metaphor drawn from polar expeditions, evolution (yawn) or other meta-physics, makes you realize that the ancient lessons recorded in the Bible can be just as gripping. I would think other faith traditions could do the same, hopefully also getting past the jingoistic level of "Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun."

5-0 out of 5 stars A Biblical Foundation
The 21 Most Powerful Minutes book is the much needed biblical support for Maxwell's excellent work, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Though it doesn't stand on its own in communicating leadership principles, it makes an excellent devotional reading to correspond with deeper study of the 21 Laws or 21 Qualities books. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Use Your Prospect's Objections to Make it Easy to Buy
When I first read this book, last month, I was drawn towards it because I couldn't find Maxwell Maltz's books on selling. And, I remember reviewing this book, thinking that I had not heard objections from my prospects, yet, by the time I read page 304, of this 400 page book, I created a notebook with 35 pages of notes, each begins with specific objections that I have heard.

I remember asking myself, "Are you closing one sale after another?" And the answer was "no."

As I read this book for the second time, I am so excited about how I am filling up those pages with very specific, tailored responses to those objections, ones which have led me to close some sales. I keep telling myself, at this point to not make another sales call, until I have read this book 4 times, but because I am learning so much, it is natural for me to make some sort of sales call, everywhere I go. And in most cases, I am gathering information on the person, more information than they probably realize that I am gathering. But it helps me to be in rapport, as I show them that they need my services.

There are some parts in this book where I have read the objections, and examples of how to respond, not react to the objections, and I had said to myself, "I could never do that. It seems somehow wrong." Then, as I read this book for the second time, I am not only adopting what seemed uncomfortable, but I am definitely putting my charming spin on the dialogues.

Long before reading this book, I had read, "Think and Grow Rich," 13 times. And I kept telling myself, so how do I sell what I am doing, to the right people, everytime I make a sales call. And, although each read of "Think and Grow Rich," has added value to me, "Secrets of Closing the Sale," is very specific, and empowering. ...

I am eternally grateful for this book, as I envision the difference that it will have on all aspects of my life.

Although I am not a Christian, I endorse Zig Ziglar. His motivational style is so unique, so sincere that he really inspires me to do more.

Here are some of his motivational quotes that get me really motivated:

"You can have everything in life you want if you'll just help enough other people to get what they want!"

"When you do what you ought to do, when you ought to do it, EVENTUALLY you will be able to do what you want to do when you want to do to do it."

"Life is not easy, life is tough, but when your tough on yourself, life is going to be infinitely easier on you."

"Winning is not everything, but the effort to win is"

Go listen to Zig and get MOTIVATED!

5-0 out of 5 stars He does it again!
This is a GREAT CD that I can listen to over and over again and always get more out of it! I passed it on to my husband, and he felt the same way. If you have ever felt like you are drifting, and do not know why things are "happening" to you, this can help you learn what to do to get you back on track. Wonderful for EVERY area of your life - not just business. A must listen!

5-0 out of 5 stars Zig is the best, and this is one of his best!
With his inimitable wit and wisdom, Zig explains goal setting and achievement. His audio/video presentations are timeless, and can be counted upon to be relevant. I have listened, repeatedly, to this title, as well as, "How To Be A Winner," and always come away with a fresh perspective, renewed motivation, and better achievement skills. The best example of Zig's philosophy is the golden rule, which he expresses by saying, "You can have everything in life you want, if you just help enough other people get what they want." Buy this for yourself, your family, your friends, and listen often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book
I ordered the audio tape version of Goals so I could listen to them in my car. I am a delivery driver and drive for hours every evening. I am able to listen to these tapes over and over and found them easy to understand and apply the concepts within a week. Zig uses comical and serious examples to illistrate his points. Some examples can get long winded but are good enough to burn the point into your mind so that the conceps are easy to remember.
In this book Zig illistrates 4 reasons people don't have goals and he will sell you on why you need to set them. He then goes on to give 13 keys to goal setting that are proven to work.
I started out year 2003 with a goal; learn how to set goals. I didn't get started until June. I have had this tape series for a little over a week and I now set daily goals as well as short, medium and long range goals.
If you were to buy only one item to help you with goal setting, this would be it! Buy this book.

Since its original publication in 1995, Leading with Soul has inspired thousands of readers. Far ahead of its time, the book bravely revealed the path to leadership to be a very personal journey requiring a knowledge of self and a servant-leader mentality. Now, in this new and revised edition, authors Bolman and Deal address such currrent issues as the changing nature of work, the new face of today's workforce, and the greater need for an infusion of soul in the workplace. They also include real-life stories from readers of the first edition, and answer key questions that those readers raise. 4-0 out of 5 stars It is a Jounrey, not a Destination
The leadership of America and other countries could use this book! The common theme in leadership today usually rests upon talent, skill and motivation, whereas this book's authors look at the "spirit". I found it to be one of the best books I have read in the area of leadership.
The story centers around a manager who seeks out a mentor as his spiritual guide. The real crux here is to seek. I think many leaders rely to heavily upon themselves and do want to seek help from anyone, especially soul help.
One of the key elements in this book is that each reader could percieve differnt lessons and take on their own meaning, which I think is a great lesson in leadership. The book requires the reader to soak in the information and even gives the reader an opportunity to practice what they have read.
On the personal level, I believe that leaders need to soul search and model the behavior in the workplace. Coming from the educational perspective, this is true as far as values and morals are taught. A leader needs to be in touch with themselves if they are to lead others.
In the story, Steve finds Maria and is challenged to look within, which is fearful to him, as it is to most of us. The key is to not avoid our own pain. If we do, we tend to avoid feelings that come out sideways, and this is very dangerous as a human being and as a leader. When we can look inside at ourselves and find a sense of peace, we have more energy, and can be more producticve as leaders. In addition, the "burnout" rate will be much less in all levels of leadership.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a journey into Leadership from the heart.
Bolman and Deal walk away from the academic view of leadership and its trappings and tell a story of a person's journey to find his inner spirit. In doing so, he finds understanding of the basic elements of being an excellent leader who inspries people and takes the organization on a path to find success. The book is an easy read, written in a narrative, novel-type style that provides a refreshing look at what people can become.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learning to TEACH with soul
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would feel they could benefit from this form of reading. I feel that you need an open mind to this idea of leadership. It is the untraditional form of thinking for leaders and educators alike. The story of Steve Camden and Maria are thought provoking and the interludes get the thoughts going. If you do not fear change or are looking for a deeper sense of self this book gives you the parable to study leadership in a wide range of concepts from the worlds of philosophy, spirituality, and poetry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Awesome. Made me cry.
I was so surprised about how this audio book really touched a nerve with me. I loved it. The story telling was compassionate and insightful. Wow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soul Touching Reading!
Quasi-religiosity drives this sanctimonious parable on leadership by the coauthors of Reframing Organizations. This is the scenario: Steve, an executive, makes several visits to his spiritual guide, Maria, who instructs him that spirit and soul are the essence of leadership. As we follow his path to enlightenment, we learn that during Steve's trip to Singapore to visit his firm's newest acquisition, a factory worker hugged him. Maria praises him: ``Love worked for you.'' But Steve receives no hugs in the Topeka branch, and this troubles him and Maria (the reader wonders if perhaps their labor union protected these American workers from having to grovel before the boss). During other sessions, Steve tells Maria about his fiancée, who insists he go to church every other Sunday; on one occasion, pupil and spiritual guide simply sit by a stream and watch a leaf float by. 25,000 first printing. ... Book Description

Classic insight for modern times.

The world's foremost producer of personal development and motivational audio programs now offers a completely unique approach to learning leadership skills.

Most programs on leadership present the successes of contemporary men and women as role models for study. While valuable lessons can be learned from their examples, few models or success stories reveal the true essence of their leadership abilities or can anticipate the special circumstances, conditions, or situations that you deal with as a manager.

In the runaway bestseller Leadership Secrets Of Attila The Hun, author Wess Roberts draws from the imaginary thoughts of one of history's most effective and least beloved leaders, Attila the Hun, to discover leadership principles you can apply to your own situation. In a uniquely creative and entertaining approach to a most serious task, "Attila" reveals his principles for successful morale building, decision making, delegating and negotiating, and gives advice on overcoming setbacks and achieving goals. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
Wess Roberts draws on the life experiences of the leader of the Mongol hordes to craft imaginative monologues on leadership - an attribute as valuable today as when Attila united the Huns in 415 AD. The advice is general. Its effectiveness probably depends on how well you apply it, although the idea of a historic icon of barbaric vengeance counseling us in cultural sensitivity seems a bit of a stretch. While the treatment is certainly colorful, you might worry about ways some modern-day chieftains could misuse Roberts' principles to justify their own Visigoth approach to management. We from getAbstract recommend this book to those looking for new and interesting ways to approach the perpetual management issues of team-building, inspiring loyalty, setting goals, and achieving objectives.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pretentious
This book was entirely too pretentious to read. He should have tried to write in the active voice and with a reasonable vocabulary. I bought it used for less than a dollar plus shipping--I got wripped off.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great work if you can get it
What a country this is! How else to explain this book? Take an historical figure about whom little is known, ascribe certain banalities about leadership to him, jazz it up with some colorful language, set it in a guidebook format with short chapters and lots of bullets--and sell huge numbers of copies! Get Ross Perot to endorse it!

This book cries out for a spoof--heck, it already seems like a spoof. I'm thinking of taking a few days to write "Leadership Secrets of Spongebob Squarepants" and see how it sells.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great leadership primer
Sure, if you're looking for an in-depth treatise on Attila or Leadership you are bound to be disappointed. I have read this book numerous times and have assigned it to my subordinate managers as required reading. In every case those people have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to read, understand and apply to improve their leadership and management practices. It gets individuals interested in picking up other, more detailed works on leadership and management that they might not have been drawn to in the first place.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Waste Your Time: Low-Brow Business
Well... where to begin??? Wess Roberts is really a good example of an initial interesting idea milked and warped to horrible proportions; neither the historical metaphor nor the advice he gleans from it really ascends above the line of a comic book. Read the "Economists" review of this book and their trashing of its author -- who appears to be rather less than he appears. I can add little except to say that I bought it in a rush in an airport and then after the first page I realised there was something terribly wrong with this book (it is written for about someone who has a 12 year old reading comprehension level).

If you are a person who sees the world in a Manichean world view of "good and evil"/ "us and them" then you may ultimately see some kind of value in this book. All research however indicates that a successful business relationship is formed on the basis of honesty, trust and committment to a win-win relationship with the client. Without that fundamental understanding business and corporations do not advance. Those companies that practise the Attila mindset will ultimately remain Neanderthals and will condemn themselves to always being small-time, cheesy presenters with a life time of believing in the simplistic explanations for complex behaviour.

I would have given it a 0 if I could have. This book has the distinction of not even being worthy to grace the shelves of my personal business library. Spend your money on Drucker or even Napolean Hill. You will get a better return. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MAGIC SUPPLEMENT every 1L needs for Criminal Law
Maybe I just dont like the Lexis-Nexis style review books, but I thought Dressler's hornbook was just not readable to me..

I picked up this audio package on tape today from half price books for $14.95 and figured "hey why not"

WOW was I amazed.Dressler really knows how to explain Criminal Law.I was barely hanging in after midterms but I ended up pulling a very respectable grade in the course because of this supplement.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good review or introduction
This lecture is very helpful as an introduction to criminal law or a fast review. Dressler is very easy to follow and he is a delight to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview
These tapes provide a great overview for exam study.I also used to the tapes to determine how I would structure my essay answers.Worth the price.Note that the content of the tapes is similar to Dressler's "Understanding Criminal Law."The tapes provide an advantage, howevever, because Dressler often gives exam strategies on the tapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview
The lecture is value packed, a terrific course overview. Methodical and thoughtfully designed. It was a great supplement to my studies. Interestingly, the author, wrote the textbook assigned to my class. I also would highly recommend Dressler's "Casenote" Criminal law outline as source for tons of practical hypo's. ... Read more

Book Description

Great salespeople are made, not born.

The world's foremost producer of personal development and motivational audio programs now offers master motivator Zig Ziglar's secrets of sales success.

You've heard about "natural-born salespeople" -- those super salespeople who seem to perform intuitively and succeed effortlessly. Now you can master those techniques and perfect your own selling skills -- skills that will take you from being a good salesperson to being the best. • Presenting: knowing the product and showing it effectively

  • Closing: winning the sale

  • Follow-up: maintaining customer contact

4-0 out of 5 stars Sales
I have the audio cassette version, and i must admit this is one of Zigs best audio programs. The first part of the tape or cd talks about Self Image, then it goes on the Prospecting, and then other areas of sales. Dont waste your money on any of Ziglars other tapes, if you want an audio program which will benefit all areas of your life, this is the one. We are all in sales, you sell yourself in an interview when trying to land that job you want, you sell yourself to that guy or girl that you want to ask out on a date. We are all in sales. Just a little note, these audio programs where done quiet a few years ago, and now they have been put onto Cd's, if only it were made available on cd in the first place, because i ended up buying the cd version and giving the cassette version to my friend. Another way to generate sales. I hope you enjoy this program, its the only one you need to succeed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must have !
Zig gets to the root of what makes a successful sale happen. He narrows down to the basics and practicalities of things people should look for regardless of what sale you are doing. Exciting and energetic Zig Ziglar is exciting to listen to and provides some good tips for people to watch out for when making a sale.

5-0 out of 5 stars It'll make you laugh it will make you cry.
Ziglar will make you laugh with his lighthearted humor, and you'll cry because you didn't get this sooner. Anyone who does any type of selling will benefit from listening to this book. Not only does he provide a lot of useful information but Zigler delivers it in way way that will definitely keep you awake and listening to the very end. Personally I think much of the information is helpful to not only sales people but anyone who wants to improve their "people skills". If you've thought about buying this before don't hesitate one moment longer. Grab it now! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
Pat Riley has Proven how to Win on the FLoor and here he shares Team Work to the fullest.it's a very Solid Book that Allows all to shine in work together.very well put together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pat Riley has written an excellent business management book
When I am asked by business counterparts to describe my favorite business philosophy, I give them a copy of Mr. Riley's book. When applied to Sports, it obviously works. When applied to business, it profoundly works. We live in a day and age when the word "I" is used to exhaustion. This book allows one to feel honor in teamwork -- in promoting and supporting the efforts of the entire business group, and shows us how personally rewarding the dynamics of being on a great business team can be. Excellent!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Wise Man
You go Pat!!!! Testify!!! This man speaks the truth, ya dig? True like buttah in yo popcorn and just as salty. Diggety bing!

4-0 out of 5 stars Success and leadership
This book is a book about teamwork and reaching your full potential as a person. Pat Riley discusses what it takes to make dreams come true. This book is great for anyone who wants to be successful with their life dreams.

5-0 out of 5 stars An MBA For The Rest Of Us :-)
When you see Coach Riley on the sidelines, the perception is one of a model straight from the pages of GQ. His suits are always custom-tailored, and his hair is slicked back. But when you read his words, you will discover another dimension that perhaps is not congruent with his tough-guy media image.

Mr. Riley demonstrates a high degree of common sense both on and off the basketball court. You will feel the toughness of his spirit, but also the kindness in his approach. This book is a great resource, since it demonstrates how to lead and how to follow to ensure maximum success.

His lessons from the hardwoods can be applied to any business or team-oriented situation. He describes in great detail his approaches with both the Lakers and NY Knicks. He discusses in very frank terms his own failures as a coach, but more importantly, presents the reader with examples how to reach our own peak performance levels.

His motivational techniques were very informative. He takes us inside of intimate situations that forged his winning ways. From tense playoff day game meetings, to providing custom towels for his players, Coach Riley spares no detail to win. The reader will realize that Mr. Riley learned from the best, and was able to succeed at the highest levels of his sport. He shows us that being a team player starts at the top, and that leaders need to set the proper example.

He also includes several non-basketball related events that provide added motivational value. The story about Jan Scruggs, the force behind the Viet Nam War Memorial, is compelling. This book is not about basketball; it is about finding the winner within each of us as we navigate challenging life events.

Out of his many enlightening quotes, two stand out: "You can respect your opponent too much." "Don't compare your performance versus other teammates; compare it against others in similar roles on other teams."

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent explanation of the new economy and how to survive.
This book is an excellent read for anyone who wants to survive and thrive in the new economy. The world has become a much smaller and closer-knit group of companies and customers. Learning how to keep and get new customers and working relationships with other companies and co-workers is essential in this new economic environment that we are in. This book provides the tools and recommendations that will help anyone (from a CEO to the mail clerk) understand the new realities of business and what needs to happen to survive and thrive in the new economy.

An excellent guide for anyone that wants to succeed and climb the ladder of success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
A real eye opener to what is wrong with corporate life today. Both an education and motivation to start you on a path to improving both your professional and personal life through managing change. Will recommend this book to everyone I know.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Net-less" World More Managable With Shechtman's Help
Job security, care taking, blind loyalty, independence, and autocracy are OUT. Adaptability, responsibility, reciprocal loyalty, interdependence, and conflict are IN. Simply put, Morris Shechtman gives us "a clue" on how to successfully "play" today's radically changed corporate game. Just the title, "Working Without a Net", gave me the jitters. As each chapter, from "An Alternative to Working and Living In a Fantasy World" to "Doing the Right Thing," unfolds, entrenched ideas of "how things work" in the workplace are shattered, first by a values clarification test, (oh, yes, most of us have some very interesting value conflicts when it comes to the old career), and then a series of growth and success strategies, powerful exercises, and the revelation that paradigm shifts are necessary to assist in our surviving and thriving in our new "net-less" environment.

The rationale for the paradigm shifts?: an ever-changing global economy that increases competition, decreases profits and margins, and heightens the emphasis on human resources as the key to gaining the competitive edge. Far from advocating a cold-hearted Darwinian approach to business, "Working Without A Net" celebrates the capacity of people within an organization to resolve their differences, pursue corporate goals, and successfully met the challenges of today's high-risk business world. - Ted DeCorte, M.A.

5-0 out of 5 stars SHECHTMAN IS AN EXPERT ON GROWTH AND CHANGE.
SHECHTMAN IS A FUTURIST WHO GIVES REAL CLUES ABOUT THRIVING IN AN EVER MORE RISKY ECONOMY AND WORLD. A WELL ARTICULATED VALUE SYSTEM, SUBSTANTIAL SELF-INFORMATION, HIGH ACCOUNTABILITY AND A DESIRE FOR GREATER OPTIONS AND CHOICES ARE THE KEYS TO PERSONAL ,PROFESSIONAL AND FINANCIAL GROWTH AND SUCCESS. SHECHTMAN IS AN INTELLECTUAL AND INTUITIVE POWERHOUSE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for those on the bubble
Great book. I will be buying copies for all of the poeple that work for me. In this "high risk" environment, this is an excellent book to help you chart your course. It is also a good book to disucss with your managmenet team as to how you would like to interact and what you expect of them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EMPOWERING
John Maxwell's daily dozen are worth learning.

So what are the daily dozen? Attitude, priority, health, family, thinking, commitment, faith, relationships, generosity, values and growth. Note faith is listed. Maxwell realizes not everyone is spiritual. He allows readers the concept of refusing this goal. Maxwell includes examples through others as well as himself to get his points across.

Maxwell is adamant when he emphasizes the wisdom of practicing daily discipline in one's life -- think things through; settle your matters everyday; take care of your financial matters daily; surround yourself with positive people; and most of all remember what you do today impacts your tomorrow.

_Today Matters_ has the ability to empower its readers. Once we learn, we must practice. That's the key to empowering today and having a successful tomorrow. Highly recommended.
