Unhappy with your job? Before you vote with your feet, consider the advice of career specialists Beverly Kaye and Sharon Jordan-Evans and learn to love your job. In this practical sequel to their bestseller Love 'Em or Lose 'Em, the authors focus on employee satisfaction as a responsibility you must share with your employer. Although the format of Love It, Don't Leave It: 26 Ways to Get What You Want at Work is gimmicky--the suggestions follow the 26 letters of the alphabet--the advice is smart and specific.

Based on research with 15,000 people who have job longevity, Kaye and Jordan-Evans identified five top "stay factors" such as opportunity for growth and pay equity. Using these factors, they map several dozen CPR ("Career Path Resuscitation") including taming the boss from hell, finding multiple mentors, protecting family time, bringing fun to work, breaking out of your cubicle and solving your Rodney "no respect" Dangerfield problem.

One standout chapter enriches our understanding of the out of the box metaphor by comparing the properties of glass, concrete, and vapor boxes. Rich in examples and underlined with strategies, this book will attract a wide audience. Follow your heart careerists may question the very idea of lobbying against changing jobs. Still, when the authors urge each reader to become the author of his or her job satisfaction, the book becomes a valuable companion in an uncertain economy. --Barbara Mackoff ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It - Practical and really useful
This is the book that truly gives employees a path to their own satisfaction and job enrichment. It made me understand that I can and should take responsibility for my own worklife and that there are things I can do myself that will improve my satisfaction, happiness and outlook at work. Instead of waiting for my manager to make things happen, there is much I can do for myself. Thank you for Love It. I wish I'd had it before I left my last job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally ... an employee's toolkit for job satisfaction
I was lucky ... I was gifted with an intuitiveness on how to navigate corporate America to grow, learn and stay satisfied, for years on end, in an organization. But as a manager of literally hundreds of people over the years, I got tired of them saying "fix it" -- "where's my promotion" -- and so on. Yes, as a manager I did have responsibility to grow, develop and keep my people engaged. I also felt that they too had to take some steps, take the initiative, and drive their own careers. This book is perfect for all of those people -- those that didn't know how to find out what they want and go for it. I plan to send a copy to many of those favorites ... those who wanted to grow, but needed some guidance. This will definitely make their worklife easier, and more satisfying. Finally, a guidebook with great how-to's for employees everywhere to take some very positive steps towards a better worklife. An excellent read, it should be on the lunch tables across corporate America.

2-0 out of 5 stars Left It, Didn't Love It
Given the rave reviews for this book, I was surprised by the lack of content and value. The book's message is a truism: only you are responsible for your own happiness. It goes on to encourage you to ask for what you want. These aren't bad assertions but they're more complicated to implement than this book would have you believe. The content is structured like an article in a woman's magazine: it uses a bulletized format with basic questions to ask yourself like "What do you enjoy" followed by inane suggestions like "Decorate your office". Cloying and without substance, this book fails to answer many core questions. What if your boss declines your request? What motivates an organization? How do you make lateral moves? Where are the examples of individuals who reengineered their work situation and how exactly they did it ? Granted, too many employees don't understand the work relationship or how to work an organization. But this is not the book that will address those issues. If you're still determined to read this book, my copy is up for sale on Amazon's used site.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leaving or staying, read this book!
This eminently practical book reaches out to you in a real way. Clearly the authors understand the frustrations of employees and offer not one but several layers of approaches to help you get the most from your job. How to think about leaving or staying, what to ask, what to say, conversations to have, and checklists to get clear on your views all help you to make the best decisions. The authors pack so much practical assistance into one short book it is just amazing. This book is designed for fast easy reading. Don't miss out on this great treasure!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Taking charge
What an excellent guidebook to show each employee how to take charge, have fun, be more productive, and enjoy time at work. Even the best managers and leaders can't provide all those results for their people. The employees have to do it themselves. Thanks, Bev and Sharon, for providing the guideposts along the way. ... Book Description

Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, by Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart and Wright is specifically written to provide a brief introduction to human resource management. While it doesn't cover the depths of human resource management theory, the book is rich with examples and engages students through application.

This first edition takes on a different approach than the hardback text by the same team. Instead of a higher level of theory that's geared towards the HRM professional, this book focuses on the uses of human resources for the general population. Issues such as strategy are reduced to give a greater focus on how human resources is used in the every day work environment.

Much like this author team's first project, Fundamentals of Human Resource Management provides instructors with a robust ancillary package.A comprehensive instructor's manual, test bank, PowerPoint presentation and a complete Online Learning Center make course preparation easy. ... Read more

Very straight-forward and easily digestible read. Step-by-step instructions will have you creating meaningful objectives, which translate into meaningful instruction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, useful, and fun. An excellent guide!
This book is a quick and enjoyable read. The content is very easy to understand. Through the use of humor and skill testing questions, Mager has made learning fun! As a student, I survived many of the poorly written objectives that Mager describes in this book. It was nice to realize I wasn't the problem...the objectives were! I look forward to using this guide to develop clear, concise objectives so students can focus more on the joy of learning and be more successful at it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine Artist Guide to Marketing & Survival in Buisness World
Caroll Michels is a life long art consultant who has written this book to share her experiences and expertise with the fine art community. Well written and with plenty of helpful references, Michels' book is an excellent addition to any artist's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars The stuff they should teach you at those art $chool$
Artists: If you are serious about gettin' famous, makin' heaps of dough, havin' all of those ... critics write about your brilliant swag, and seducin' actresses or actors, you gotta start right here with this book. Otherwise, pack it up and become an art historian or janitor at the Getty.

Seriously, this is the best book you can buy if you are considering hitting the "scene" with your goods.

Sure, she has some "cliche" statements about "getting organized" (but in all fairness, what artist doesn't need to be reminded to get organized?!) and the like, but wow...the sections on how to price your art, marketing with a brochure, the importance of contracts (!!!), grant building, etc etc. are a veritable cornucopia of practical goodness.

This book is so good that I almost burst with pleasure after reading it. I'll be willing to bet a Picasso that her consulting advise is beyond compliment.

1-0 out of 5 stars They need to stop printing this book!
This book has some good ideas, but it is very dated. It refers to search engines and sites that no longer exist, and doesn't address new technologies and sites. A new edition might be worthwhile, but I'd pass on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Journey Begins
I am supposed to be a painter. Famous? who cares. I just want to make a living doing what it is I was put here to do.

Thank you Caroll for your book. I read it the first time three years ago. This time I'm taking notes and DOING it. One thing each day to get me to a point where I could transition careers and (pretty much) paint all the live long day.

The most tragic thing in life is wasted talent. Because of this book, I won't have to TELL my children that they can do anything, I will have SHOWN them how its possible.

2-0 out of 5 stars A book pointing you to other books
I was disappointed in this book. Lots of "resources" listed, but the nuts and bolts boil down to the old "how to" cliches, like Get organized! A computer can help you do this! Many gallery owners are meanies! Far less than what I was looking for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it!
So many training guides merely compile the same old activities that have been circulating forever. I was glad to see some really unique activities in here (even though it first came out twenty years ago!). I also found the trainer's introduction pertinent and helpful.

If you work in an international context, you'll be especially pleased. Many of the other game compilations have activities that are language (puns, play on words) or culture (trivia) based. This volume seems relatively free of such nonsense.

It's not the sexiest book you'll pick up. The format and design are simple, even stark. Nevertheless, for sheer fun for your buck, you'll have a hard time beating it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Games Trainers Play
I was really looking forward to getting this book and was so disappointed when I got it. I don't see how anyone could rate it at 5 stars. It was dry and boring. There are better books out there than this one. I even met Ed Scannell last year in Austin. I'm just gled that he is not as boring as the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars reader's comments
This book is very helpful for me. I am working as Training Manager at hospitality industry, and in our country we do not have such books to facilitate the training session or to help in getting the proper ice breaker. I would say if we have a definit games book for the hospitality career will be appreciated. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to do the exercises...
When I first read this book, I thought it had some pretty good points about how to get a job or change your career but it wasn't a life-changing experience for me at the time. The second time I picked up this book, I was in a workshop where we were actually going to do the exercises in the book. What a huge difference this made in what I got out of this book!

By actually applying the tools, I learned so much about myself and what I wanted to do with my life. Not just my career, but my whole life! I highly recommend this book to anyone going through a career/life transition. But don't do what I did the first time I read it. Do the exercises and you will be amazed at the results.

3-0 out of 5 stars I just got a great new job
Recently, I was out of work and frustrated. So I bought two books. The first one was Parachute. I read it, but I quickly got frustrated because it wasted so much time on stuff I didn't care about. For instance there are scores of pages dedicated to starting your own business. If I wanted to start my own business, I would have bought a book on that topic. Then, there are many pages where the author tries to push his religion on you. If I wanted to focus on my faith, I would have bought a book on it. Instead, I recommend the second book I purchased "10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search"

"10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search" was just released last month and this book really spoke to me in the situation I was in. I found the book to be extremely motivational and the 65 sample job interview questions were right on as I was asked at least half of them in my interviews. Also, the one magical question that the author tells you to ask on the interview worked like a charm. Parachute is an alright book if you aren't in a hurry to find a new job. However, if you want to get a new job fast, I recommend "10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search" instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter found her career with the help of this book
This book should be read by every person who needs to get on track with their vareer. My daughter was moping around the house after graduating from college. She brought this book home, completed the exercises, found her calling and is now a successful realtor. This book is an invaluable resource for job hunters and those sitting on the fence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended guide to improving your career
Richard Bolles'," What Color Is Your Parachute?," has garnered a lot of praise, and sold not a few copies, over the years. I found the book easy to read, with simple, but useful, advice for the job-hunter. Like other books of its type, it contains a combination of exposition and exercises, or homework if you like; Bolles provides short-cuts for those who may already have the "answers" and step-by-step details for those who do not. Read it like you would a textbook and expect to be called upon in class to answer questions. Completing the exercises does take some time, but the few hours needed are a small price to pay.

Bolles writes in a down-to-earth, non-academic style. He is constantly hammering home a few points: the job-hunt may take a long time and be meet with failure after failure, which leads to giving up too quickly i.e. persistence pays off, the job-hunter should take no short-cuts and leave no stone unturned, if a particular strategy doesn't work pick another one, and that it is important to identify what your skills and interests are; none of this is particularly unique to this book. Bolles clearly makes a distinction between skills and traits, something not all books of this type do adequately. He provides alternatives when a particular approach fails to produce results. And above all he encourages while at the same time providing some realism.

The book is copiously illustrated. And ironically - I typically complain that publishers of non-fiction often leave out illustrations - this is my one complaint about the book, that the illustrations take up so much space and yet provide nothing but aesthetic value. A word of caution, that the author himself acknowledges, many of the Internet links provided are out-dated - either because the links are "dead" or because they have become fee-for-service sites instead of free. I have just started looking for that dream job, so my journey isn't over yet. But I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to improve their working life.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the right person, this book is profound
Parachute is not for everyone. If you dislike thinking about your life, values, spirituality, and your goals, you will find What Color Is Your Parachute ? incomprehensible. If you want a quick fix to your life/work problems, Parachute doesn't offer you a quick fix.

But for many ( 8 million readers and growing), working with the ideas and exercises of this book has helped them create very positive change in their lives---and its impact on their personal lives is so great that they want to share it with others.

In my case, I read the book after graduating from college, and found myself in the midst of a recession, no demand for a kid with a BA in liberal arts. I was totally unprepared to enter the world of work after 4 years of college. WCIYP? gave me a road map for thinking out my mission in life, who I was and how to find work that would use my favorite skills. I started my own business , which turned into a INC 500 Company. My life/work has been a wonderful adventure, influenced greatly by Bolles' book. Over the years, I must have given out 100 copies of Parachute to college students and friends who needed to go through a life changing job hunts. I have worked through it several times over 20 years. Each year Bolles brings out a new edition with fresh insights. I keep it on my shelf as a reference book.

I have read many other books on 'finding the job of your dreams'---and almost all are derviative from Bolles and frankly are pale imitations.

A word of advice. Parachute is really a workbook. Just reading it gives you only a taste of its true value. Read, reflect, write and read some more. Then take action! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best practical business advice EVERY woman should read
I have worked 25 years in the workforce and now make a tremendous salary. I have 50+ books in my office on management, sales, business and marketing by the leading authors of our time. This is by far, the best book of its kind (targeted to women)on the market today. I wish I had read it 25 years ago! Many women, unfortunately, feel they have to play a "game" to get ahead in business. This book gives us insight to our inner selves and helps us realize we can be true to ourselves - and still WIN in the workplace. Fabulous book!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Focus on Results rather than who's pleasing who
This book revolves around two premises: Good Girls please others, Gutsy Girls please themselves. Whatever happened to focusing on results and what needs to be done at work? An effective person, male or female, doesn't matter which, focuses on the tasks and strategies that advance the business' objectives instead of playing gamesmanship (or in this case, gameswomanship) with others. Ms. White makes it sound so droll to be a "good girl" and denigrates her to no end, when in reality she is portraying a doormat straw-woman so that she can contrast with her "gutsy girl" persona who doesn't give a hoot about anyone but how she can get ahead and elbow her way to the top. Modern business relies on teamwork and collaboration, and such a self-centered approach will not get the best long term results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This book has changed the way I think about my career and inspired me to become more "gutsy" by taking smart risks. These are things that nobody teaches you in business school. Gutsy girls go after what they want!

3-0 out of 5 stars Where's the facts?
Kate White offers a lot of self-empowering advice here, but after just having read Good to Great, I see that her advice is ONLY based on experience, not on any hard evidence. Some of this advice may work for her, but according to the facts in Good to Great, the leaders who make companies successful don't have the charisma she's talking about. At any rate, she offers some great tips for someone who likes to keep the status quo. She simply uses the doormat vs. gutsy woman approach to prove her point. (And her experience still has merit - look where she is now.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Smart girls can be both good and gutsy!
Hated it! The piece on Julia Roberts was opportunistic and simply proved this woman may well be short on ethics and long on selling hype. Those who chose to overlook what is awful about this book are the very people the author is seeking.
Not my cup of tea! Hope my review was gutsy enough! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Real World Reference Book
This book is a terrific guide through pretty much every HR issue you will come across. The writing is straightforward, it's well organized, and it explains complicated subjects in a way everyone can understand. Most importantly, it gives useful, practical tips and suggestions. It's a must-read for entry-level HR professionals and anyone who manages employees, and it's also a great reference for more experienced HR professionals. It will be especially useful to those in small companies who don't always have immediate access to subject matter experts in every area of HR. I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and Effective System
I have read almost every book available on starting and operating a home inspection business, and this one simply blows the others away. After reading and studying this one, I wish I had not purchased the others because every detail on what to do, what to write, and even what to say to customers during an inspection is in there. Michael Pompeii shows an ingeniously simple system of starting and operating a home inspection business, inspecting a house, and reporting the results so that just about anyone could do it. I tried it, and it works. My first customer was delighted with my "very professional" inspection. The best part is that I did not have to spend hundreds of dollars on other tapes and courses. I can't thank Michael Pompeii enough for the help and the confidence that his book has given me. This is by far the best book out there for anyone who is serious about becoming a home inspector.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny
At first I was a little apprehensive in spending this kind of money for a book, but I'm sure glad I did. It's like you are buying a home inspection franchise manual, except you are not paying ten or twenty thousand for a franchise. For me, this book is worth every penny.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but way overpriced
This book has some good information on how to start a Home Inspection business but it is really overpriced. Most of the valuable information is how to run the business but if your looking for how to become at trained home inspector you won't find it here. ... Wow that's pricey. In addition the author spends a good portion of the book on how to use their copyrighted home inspection reports which must be purchased separtley to for your use. If your not interested in using those reports these sections of the book are not very useful.

3-0 out of 5 stars A solid basic introduction to the business
If you are interested in becoming a home inspector, this book is a great place to start. It will give you the nuts and bolts about the profession as well as the tools and marketing skills required. The author lays it out in a very simple and easy to read format. I emphasize this is a great place to start, you will need to go elsewhere to find the technical knowledge and information you need to do a professional home inspection, and the author does provide a helpful list of resources at the back of the book. It is a bit expensive but information like this is hard to come by and you can save yourself a bundle of cash in the long run by heeding his advice. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get into the home inspection field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For
The many actual samples from home inspection reports and the constant emphasis on how to inspect and report while avoiding legal hassles is just what I was looking for. Even though I know a lot about houses, I didn't know how to do a home inspection or what was supposed to be in a home inspection report, but I do now. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

I think Shifting into Higher Gear can be the starting point for finally finding the job or position that a person can be excited and passionate about. The authors do a great job of laying out the process and mindset needed to prepare for, find and keep the "right job". The focus on a person's spiritual health and the role it plays in your career made a particularly important impact on me.I have bought several copies of this book to give to my friends and associates who need that little nudge to make a move for a better career.

Bought several copies as gifts for recent college grads.A great value at $16.95.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive guide to finding your career calling
This book provides a practical guide to finding your "ideal" career. It doesn't focus on a job position, compensation, or power but rather focuses on which career/calling could truly make you happy. It is a book that can be used at any stage of your career or even in retirement. I have sent copies of the book to my son and son-in-law and they are already using it. The book works because it makes you think differently about how to look at your career. It will open your eyes to possibilities youmay have never considered.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read Survival Guide for Nurses
Donna Cardillo, RN succeeds in capturing the experience of "your first year as a nurse." Her book provides first hand accounts from recent graduates, practicing nurses, and Donna's own experiences. Donna guides you through the steps of getting your first position, finding resources to help you succeed, and communicating with coworkers, patients, and their families. Her comprehensive book even includes a chapter on stereotypes, annoyances, and myths which will resonate with every nurse both male and female. That chapter also provides the reader with some clever ways to respond to stereotypes. Seasoned nurses will find Donna's chapters on staying connected and taking your career to the next level filled with invaluable tools to help them flourish in their career. In a time where the nursing profession is entering a shortage, and working conditions for nurses have been less than ideal, it is refreshing to read accounts of nurses that maintain a positive outlook and can share their coping strategies with the reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read how to be a professional nurse
As a nursing student or beginning nurse, looking for guidance and advice that helps in adapting to the unfamiliar role as a nurse is invaluable. Reading countless numbers of textbooks, listenting to long lectures from instructors, and getting 30 second advice from staff nurses can leave a the beginning nurse bewildered as to what to expect once their license and career is on the line. Donna Wilk Cardillo has written a book that can help the beginning nurse develop into a sheer professional.

I am a nursing student with a degree in business. As I was about to embark upon the nursing profession, I needed some sound advice that would give me confidence as I started my new career. Reading "Your First Year As A Nurse," I found out how to interact with patients, families, doctors, co-workers, and supervisors in a professional manner that I hadn't learned about in school. The book offers "real world" experiences and testimony from other students and professionals that helped me to visualize myself taking on the nurse role with confidence. Cardillo has used language that is easily interpreted and challenges the reader to make themselves into a better professional nurse.

Cardillo's book also explains in depth how to be marketable in the nursing profession. Using her expertise in career development, Cardillo offers much advice to the beginning nurse about how to advance themselves to their desired position. The reader can learn and become comfortable in obtaining their own business cards, establishing mentors, interacting with health care professionals, and creating self-confidence that leads to success.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First Challenging Year of Nursing
I have been a nurse for almost 30 years, and would have benefited greatly from a book like this. Nursing school is wonderful for teaching a lot of technical information, and if a student is in a 4-year program, some professionalism, but Donna's book takes the reader to the next level--that of fully embracing your new life as a nurse and practicing nursing as a true professional.

She gives many helpful tips on interacting professionally with patients and doctors (oh, how intimidated I was by doctors in 1976!). She discusses the value of networking and becoming connected with others in our profession through the Internet. She talks about how to avoid burnout, a situation seen quite a bit today with nursing shortages nationwide. Donna outlines the value of setting goals and journaling, techniques designed to enhance self-worth and value.

This book is a must-read for either a nursing student or a new graduate, as it is just filled with common-sense ways to make the most of an extremely valuable profession. After all, if you are going to take 2-4 years out of your life to pursue a nursing career, don't you want to make it the best decision you ever made? Donna's book will help you see clearly that nursing is an honorable and valuable life journey.

1-0 out of 5 stars unhappy
I purchased 5 copies sight unseen, based soley on quality articles I have read of Cardillo. This book is an insult to the intellegence of new nurses. Much of the content is true and could be helpful if not presented in such a condesending manner. Now I have 5 books I intended to hand out to the new nurses I mentor - never would I suggest they read this book. Cardillo is a great writer, I'm shocked she really wrote this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good medicine for nurses RETURNING to work, too
And in the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
T.S. Eliot

*Your First Year As A Nurse* was exactly what I needed when I needed it, but not for the reason you might expect. I will be 50 years-old this year. I practiced nursing from 1977 to 1991 and am returning to clinical nursing after I complete an RN refresher program. While I may not be "a new grad" I certainly feel new. So much has changed in the last 12 years. I am in need of a big dose of confidence and Ms. Cardillo's book is just the right medicine.

The book is well-written, organized and sprinkled with gentle humor. It addresses almost every aspect of feeling inadequate because of inexperience, but it doesn't dwell on negatives. Instead, it focuses on the joy and value of learning and emphasizes strong communication skills. I especially liked it because it is filled with personal stories, and comments from real nurses in the trenches.

The most amazing thing about the book, to me, is that it maintains a realistic outlook in a positve manner without sounding like it was written by someone named Pollyanna. Ms. Cardillo makes it all seem possible in the real world because she writes with honesty. She looks at difficult situations head-on and instead of asking "What's the problem?" she asks, "What's the solution?"

I left nursing in 1991 in a state of complete burnout. It was a time of change that I could not accept: the dawn of HMOs, DRGs and managed care. Hospital nurses were being laid off in great numbers to save money and replaced with technicians who had two weeks training. Delegation and case loads became the buzz words.

Because of a severe shortage of hospital nurses, there is a huge recruiting effort to get nurses who have left back into the workforce. You'll find everything from RN refresher programs to intense hospital-based internships for nurses who have been out of the workforce for more than five years.

Our finances have changed and I need to go back to work as an RN. I was very frightened by this possibility even though I have always kept my nursing license active. And then I found Ms. Cardillo's book.

I have cried in places while reading it. It is as though I am recapturing the sacredness of nursing that I had lost. It isn't written just for the beginner. It is also wonderful for someone like me who has been out for a long time and wishes to return.

No, I don't have a long time left to work as a nurse (maybe a decade, 15 years at most), and some of the chapters on career building make me very sad when I think of what could have been. (I would love to go back and talk to that young woman but I can't.) Still, *Your First Year As A Nurse* gave me another lens through which to look at nursing.

The author reminded me of why I became a nurse in the first place so many years ago. 9/11 affected me deeply. Because of this book, I will "dare to care" once again-and maybe, if I'm lucky, know the place for the first time. Thank you, Ms. Cardillo, for writing the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked for me!
I was on the job market and just felt that I was doing something wrong. I'm a professional, a supervisor, and just couldn't figure out where I was stumbling. This book changed all of that. It opened my eyes, showed me hidden strengths, and got me the job offer I wanted -- for a higher salary than I had expected.

Many books tell you what to say during different situations. This book works because it helps you determine your unique strengths and how to best present them to potential employers. It's a quick read, too. I've recommended it to all my job hunting friends, from novice to experienced.

Don't even think twice. Get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real help
I went to the book store and grabbed just about every job interview help book they had, took them to a chair, and quickly read through each of them. With the exception of this book, they were all the same. They either gave you suggestions on how to answer certain questions (Who wants to memorize answers from a book? You could never remember them all, and if you did, you would just be giving answers that other people being interviewed are likely to give also. You want to stand out in your interview, not seem like everyone else!) OR they gave you suggestions on how to act (Do you really need a book to tell you to dress nice, don't belch, sit up straight, and don't bring relatives along?). THIS BOOK does neither of these things! What it does do is help you to gain self-confidence and other skills that will help you present yourself in the best way possible in order to convince your potential employer that YOU are the person they want to hire! No tricks, just ways of showing an interviewer all of the wonderful things about yourself that are relevant to the interviewer's needs and desires, all within a 15-20 minute interview. They reason that if actors can "sell themselves" to a Broadway producer in a two-minute audition during a cattle call, you can certainly sell yourself during a much longer interview. There are also activities in this book that will help you remember good things about yourself that would be great things to say to an interviewer. How to show them that you are the right person for the job, not just tell them! How to make them realize that you are just the person they are looking for!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
After reading dozens of books and getting nowhere, I tried this book and found real success. Not only did I use it to get the perfect job for myself, but I also used it to get a raise and a promotion a short while later. Don't let the small size of the book discourage you. Believe me, this book is packed with everything you'll need for success. Buy this book! You won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This is a clear, useful guide with a lot of original points. Not a lot of silly emphasis on superficial aspects of interviewing. It's also easy to read and digest. Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars missing everything
another strong-titled, very popular book that has watered down content and is so devoid of meaty substance as to make one instantly consider utilizing the pages for rolling papers.
