Good, yet not good enough.
This book gives plenty of background into international finance. Unfortunately, it has some big flaws, in my opinion. First, there are not enough calculation examples. Second, there are too few questions at the end of each chapter. In addition, you must go to the author's website for the solution. Once you get there, you will be surprised to find out that the author has only solved maybe two out of eight problems. That's annoying. I do not recommend this book. Take a class from another professor who uses a different text book.

This is a decent book...
I agree with the previous reviewer who mentioned the text was very disorganized. Much of the information provided is very redundant, hence the book could have been much shorter (and less expensive).

Synopsis: National cultures and laws affect accounting standards used by different countries. The book discusses the major differences of accounting in great detail. There is a push by the International Accounting Standards Board to harmonize accounting standards so that international financial statements will be more comparable. Will they succeed? Read this book and then decide for yourself.

Best in giving full information and food for thought
I have used the book while working on my Final Thesis. I found it very informative and at the same time it is not overwhelmed with extensive discussions not relating to the main topic. It is clear and logical.

Needs extensive editing and reorganization.
This text suffers from its haphazard organization and lack of clarity in presentation. Textual material could be simplified if presented in tabular form. Text also suffers from lack of precision in references to accompanying tables. Can be confusing, major focus on economics
This textbook may not be a good choice for undergraduate students or for someone who does not have an intermediate or higher knowledge of finance. Wording in the chapters and in the end of chapter problems can be confusing. Statements are made and then not backed up with supporting information. The book spends a large amount of time on a macroeconomic view.

continued improvment
I read Terry Neal's book "The Offshore Advantage" and enjoyed it quite a bit. However, it was a little short on "how" someone goes offshore but strong on "why". Thankfully his new book devotes a good deal of space to "how" and does it in a way that is easy to understandgiving gives pros and cons as well as jurisdictional information making it easier for a lay person to get started.

I would recommend this book to people wanting to learn what going offshore is all about. I think it is an excellent resource that will help people make an informed decision.

Congratulations to the author on an job well done.

Useful introduction, but not for accounting professionals
As an IFRS auditor I use several IFRS publications (mainly from Big 4 audit firms). After browsing Wiley IAS 2004 at my local bookstore, I decided not to buy it because it is just not detailed enough in areas such as financial instruments, first-time adoption of IFRS and employee benefits. I prefer using more detailed, and more authoritative, IFRS publications such as International GAAP 2005 (available on amazon.co.uk).

American approach to IAS...
This book gives the full coverage of current IASs (at the end of 2002) and extensively discusses ongoing IASB projects which are expected to come in force in 2003.

The book gives somewhat different from the European/UK approach to IASs... for example, benchmark treatment is assumed by authors as "preferred". The other major source of IAS guidance - Butterworths Tolley's UK and International GAAP - specifically states that "although the terms 'benchmark' and 'allowed alternative' were retained, the IASC Board has made it clear that both treatments enjoy equal status. The fact that one approach is labelled 'benchmark' does not mean that it is the Board's preferred approach.".

All in all Wiley IAS 2003 is a must buy for all dealing with IASs. Due to lack of current US textbook in international accounting this book becomes more that a reference for a professional. It may also be useful source for accounting students and teachers wishing to better understand differences between US GAAP/IAS differences in treatments and approaches. ... Read more

A Handy Reference Book for MBA Level
This textbook is used in our MBA International Finance course (1 semester) and we basically covered about 80% of the materials in the class. The book is well organised and, most importantly, the notations are very clear which helps understanding the materials. Each chapter include a list of references so that students who need to do further research (e.g. for their projects) can start from there. There are also extensive references to the current developments in international finance arena including internet links. We used the Conceptual Questions and Problems at the end of each chapter for revision purpose as well. I do not find much numerical errors as other reviewers mentioned in 2nd edition. Overall I find it very well-written and was useful for my learning experience.

If you don't have to - don't buy it!
Unfortunately I had to buy the book and read all 600 pages of it. It was my textbook for one of my courses at uni. Generally, the content of the book is quite all right, but lots of mistakes (esp. of numerical nature) make the book nearly worthless. This book, written as a text for accounting/business students, provides an excellent overview of accounting standards around the world.Rather than providing a detailed listing of accounting standards for each country (best left for reference texts and online, easily updatable sources) the authors focus on the key features of accounting standards, disclosures and harmonization efforts worldwide.

This book provides an excellent, basic primer in international accounting.It is easily read by anyone with a basic understanding of business and finance and/or accounting. The authors provide numerous examples of international financial reporting, taken from actual financial statements and annual reports.

Useful but over priced
A useful book that provides a good summary comparing differing Accounting Standards and approaches between countries.However, it is not worth the price.It is supposedly written for later year undergraduate and masters accounting students.It is more suitable for general second year accounting students.Plus, as I am working with a multinational European bank in Japan, the book is, rapidly becoming, out of date.There is none of the simply but incisive commentary which can be found in other books about the differences and outcomes of general accounting principals drawn from different countries. ... Step-by-step guide from the master
This book set me up very nicely for a career in forex markets. Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. The book will also help you with preparation for the CFA charter examinations.

An excellent textbook on international finance
This book has three major strengths compared to other textbooks in this field. #1: It is soundly based on FINANCE theories. Most other textbooks on international finance have more of an "international BUSINESS" taste. #2: It is more analytical than most others. #3: It is comprehensive yet very concise.
