Book Description

In many companies credit management is a passive and reactive discipline. This results in significant receivables assets weighing heavily on balance sheets, dragging down cash flow and inhibiting growth. The power of credit is shackled, muted.

Release the power and passion of credit management in your company. Proactively squeeze every morsel of value out of receivables and simultaneously, protect your company from the bad debt danger that lurks in the value chain.

Harness the power of credit to effectively manage your company's receivables. Immediately make a positive difference in your company, and use this book as a resource for years to come.

Reading Global Credit Management will help you

  • wake the sleeping giant on your balance sheet
  • make receivables earn their keep, just like every other asset.
  • wrest control of credit from bureaucratic processes, grab it by the throat and wring out every drop of value.
  • And last but by no means least, boost the value of your company.

"... one of the most intelligent and refreshing exposés of the present and future role of international credit management that I have read in a long time. Global Credit Management represents a very welcome and innovative addition to the small library of quality publications available on international credit and risk management." -Tim Lane ... 5-0 out of 5 stars First in this subject area
This belongs in any high flying accounts collection of reference. You may think that this book is long winded, not concise and bascially for hardcore accounting academics but you'd be suprised how well written and easy to follow it is.

It comes from a very reputable editor and basically contains all the useful parts of other books in one. If you where to buy the useful books in this field it would cost alot more than this book so it is worth it but only buy it if you feel it can help you make more money.

P.S- Its a good idea to borrow a copy first before you buy because if you don't feel comfortable with it its a waste of money. If you do feel comfortable with it you will soon realise its invaluble.

Book Description

The indispensable guide to IAS compliance

International Accounting Standards (IAS) are hotter than ever due to their endorsement by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the European Commission’s groundbreaking decision to require all listed companies throughout the European Union to apply International Accounting Standards (instead of their national accounting standards) by 2005. These two milestone proclamations of support have given the IAS (soon to be called the International Financial Reporting Standards or "IFRS") the long-awaited backing they need to become truly international GAAP, or global accounting standards. As a result, more and more countries in emerging and developing economies, as well as global players, are adopting these standards.

This handy yet comprehensive quick-reference guide helps accountants prepare and understand financial statements presented in accordance with the rapidly evolving, ever more widely used International Accounting Standards. The 2002 edition of the authoritative, practical guide to IAS compliance includes complete coverage of all the standards issued or revised under the IOSCO’s "core set of standards" program and those issued thereafter. More than ever before, every accountant or corporate financial official involved in–or contemplating–registration in foreign markets now needs the guidance offered in this book. Written by a team of practicing CPAs with in-depth international experience in applying IAS, this guide includes meaningful real-world examples and interpretive insights into the requirements of IAS.

This up-to-date 2002 edition covers important, complex requirements addressed by the recent IASs, including:

  • IAS 10, Events After the Balance Sheet Date
  • IAS 33, Earnings Per Share
  • IAS 34, Interim Financial Reporting
  • IAS 35, Discontinuing Operations
  • IAS 36, Impairment of Assets
  • IAS 37, Provisions, Contingent Liabilities, and Contingent Assets
  • IAS 38, Intangible Assets
  • IAS 40, Investment Property
  • IAS 41, Agriculture
  • IAS 32, Financial Instruments: Disclosure and Presentation
  • IAS 39, Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement
  • IAS 39, Implementation Guidance: Questions and Answers

Plus: Other IASs including the revised standard on Presentation of Financial Statements (IAS 1), Cash Flow Statements (IAS 7), Construction Contracts (IAS 11), Segment Reporting (IAS 14), Property, Plant and Equipment (IAS 16), Leases (IAS 17), Revenue (IAS 18), Employee Benefits (IAS 19), Income Taxes (IAS 12), Government Grants (IAS 20), Business Combinations (IAS 22), and a chapter on the often contentious topic of Related-Party Disclosures (IAS 24) as well as coverage of specialized industry accounting rules–Disclosures in Financial Statements of Banks (IAS 30).

Also included: Coverage of Issues Papers on Insurance and Extractive Industries and interpretations of the Standing Interpretations Committee (SIC) currently operative–SICs 1 to 25. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it
I have had many textbooks over the years and this is one of the best I have had. Some textbooks I have not even bothered to read but this one clearly explained the concepts it presented and was a great addition to my instructor's lectures. It gave a lot of real life examples in order to show applicablility and I actually didn't mind reading the chapters. The key learning objectives were really good as well as the questions at the end in order to meet educational needs. The online tools available with this book were also essential to passing exams with good grades. It was worth having to buy for my class.

Book Description

The 1994 Rwandan genocide was a monumental atrocity in which at least 500,000 Tutsi and tens of thousands of Hutu were murdered in less than four months. Since 1994, members of the Rwandan political class who recognize those events as genocide have struggled to account for them and bring coherence to what is often perceived as irrational, primordial savagery.

Most people agree on the factors that contributed to the genocide -- colonialism, ethnicity, the struggle to control the state. However, many still disagree over the way these factors evolved, and the relationship between them. This continuing disagreement raises questions about how we come to understand historical events -- understandings that underpin the possibility of sustainable peace.

Drawing on extensive research among Rwandese in Rwanda and Europe, and on his work with a conflict resolution NGO in post-genocide Rwanda, Nigel Eltringham argues that conventional modes of historical representation are inadequate in a case like Rwanda. Single, absolutist narratives and representations of genocide actually reinforce the modes of thinking that fuelled the genocide in the first place. Eltringham maintains that if we are to understand the genocide, we must explore the relationship between multiple explanations of what happened and interrogate how -- and why -- different groups within Rwandan society talk about the genocide in different ways. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars O'Regan an inspiration to all Auditors
O'Regan's book is an inspiration to read, in the office or in your leisure.A 'must have' for auditors embarking on international assignments.A breath of fresh air for auditing books normally associated with endless jargon and complex terminology. This book has completely transformed my image of global auditing, so much so, that I aim to adventure into the world of international auditing very soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR THE AUDIT BOOK SHELF
A truely inspirational read. The chapters are juxtaposed with succintness and clear, precise, useful, practical information.
This is one of the first books I've seen in its genre - unique.
As an experience 'travelling' global auditor I found this book invaluable, it is definitely useful reference material for the spectrum of audit staff from Audit Directors to the juniors on their first field audit. I have passed this book down to all my colleagues as basic training material.

5-0 out of 5 stars "O'Regan is my guru!"
At last - a book on auditing that combines verve, panache, and a mountain of useful information. I have been an avid follower of O'Regan's writing for several years - his classy articles and IIA books have been a constant companion in my professional life as an auditor. He seems sometimes to be leading a one-man crusade to lift auditing writing out of its generally stuffy doldrums and onto a higher plane.

"International Auditing" is O'Regan's best achievement to date, and the intellectual self-confidence that underpins it is almost breathtaking. Who else would dare to undertake, in one book, all of the following: a history of auditing in its various forms, guidance on international risks, advice on logistics and safety, and a detailed country guide that covers economics, politics, history, and demographics? In my opinion the country guides are worth the price of the book alone, and are a pleasure to read.

In summary, my message to O'Regan is "Well done!" More, please... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ENRON
This book is about exploring the rules of business beyond the 21st century and how these are bent and often broken, with devastating effect by individuals who have altered the traditional profile of fraud and the fraudster forever.

It is a compilation of papers, theories and Congressional Testimony the story behind the stories.

This book describes the super ego, corruption at head of state and ministerial level in the governments of over 72 countries.

The book speaks of Bank of Credit Commerce and Industry (BCCI), the bank that laundered the funds of Noriega, the Cali and Medellin Cartels and which was linked to international terrorism, prostitution and funding death squads.

Most of all it is about the most complicated, sophisticated and devastating financial crimes in modern history.

It speaks of Barings Bank and the collapse of one of the world s oldest and most respected banks at the hands of a small fry crook that realised almost per chance his masters had left him with the keys to both the front and back door.

The Enron collapse describes a frenzy of greed and denial.

It bears testimony and stands as epitaph to the annihilation of millions of ordinary peoples dreams. ... Read more
