5-0 out of 5 stars Packed With Great Information
As a psychologist who works with lawyers, I have found this book to be an invaluable resource for my clients. It addresses the full range of issues that confront someone questioning whether to leave a legal career altogether or to switch to a different legal environment. No book should give clients the "answer" to their dilemma, and this one does not pretend to. I have found it extremely helpful in how it poses important questions to consider, offers wise advice, and provides in-depth help with resources and information. My clients have found it reassuring, encouraging and informative. It's an inexpensive resource that every lawyer or law student considering a shift in career direction should review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool for anyone interested in a law career.
I found this to be an excellent book which contains a wealth of information and references, excellent resources and lists of relevant Web sites, books, organizations & other sources for career guidance, job placement & assistance. I've been a lawyer for 20 years. I'd been trying to work through self-assessment in the traditional way together with others who are not lawyers, and was making some progress, but somehow not getting as much out of it as I would have liked. Then I discovered Hindi Greenberg's book - and the whole self-assessment process came alive for me! I felt like Hindi had written the book for ME. I really connected with it, and began recommending it to colleagues & others in the profession. I've just purchased a second copy to send to my niece who is considering going to law school. The book is up-to-date and well researched - concise, stays on point, is easy to read, & is not cumbersome - a great tool for lawyers pondering what to do next with their careers or how to improve satisfaction within the practice of law, or for people considering law school or entering law as a profession. This book is a career management guide geared particularly toward lawyers, either seasoned lawyers wanting to explore options for a second or different career or different area of emphasis, or new lawyers just starting out and wondering what direction they would like to pursue within a legal career. The book is complete, takes a thorough look at the entire career development process, recommends that you start with self-assessment to discover your personal skills, values, interests, and personality traits so that you are equipped to choose an area or specialty within the law that most fits with your personal preferences, temperament and skills. Then it shows you how to conduct self-assessment and guides you through the complete self-assessment process by providing a comprehensive set of exercises to help you discover your interests, assess your skills, think through the changes you want to make and to set about achieving those changes in your career. It provides MORE than other general books regarding traditional career management because it is directed specifically toward lawyers and people considering a legal career. This book is for anyone who wants to manage, or take charge of, their legal career, and it provides excellent guidance in self-assessment to lawyers and non-lawyers, alike. I highly recommend this book to anyone considering a legal career, and to lawyers considering a career change.

1-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive Rehash
This is a book like the dozens of other career change ones out there - you can find this information in publications from years ago, and with much better advice. No new information, and would only help lawyers who would lack the imagination to think of "legal publishing" or "in-house counsel" as career options. Truly unhelpul.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource That WIll Make You Think
When I picked up this book I knew that I had always had an interest in law, but was unsure if I wanted to work for a law firm. Before going to law school I wanted an idea of exactly what my options might be after school.

This book helped me a lot. I have not made a final decision, but I am definitely closer than when I picked up the book. The two most helpful sections to me were the assessment exercises that helped me think about what skills I have and the last 2 sections on actual jobs available.

If you just want someone to tell you what job is right for you then don't choose this book. If you want/need to think about yourself, your life, your skills, and what you want your job and your life to be then this book is a tool that will help you on your journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book can be a LIFECHANGER!
I read 'The Lawyer's Career Change Handbook,' and found Ms. Greenberg's ideas and advice extremely useful. I found the self-assessment exercises, which most of us lawyers try to avoid, extremely helpful in clarifying why my previous work was unsatisfying and in what direction I needed to move in order to find work that would better fit my needs. The job ideas, extensive resource listings, and insightful comments by Ms. Greenberg also greatly benefited me in deciding upon my next career incarnation. The final assist was when I consulted individually with Ms. Greenberg. She gave me creative guidance, solid advice and wonderful support to pursue my current work. ... She is an insightful, generous human being. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Well Presented
Like many of us in the real world, looking for that perfect IT Job is like looking for a needle in a haystack, this book discussess everything surrounding an IT interview, hiring manager's perceptions, etc. This book helps to develop IT Job candidate in every possible scenario.

I've done my fare share of interviewing, but my success rate is rather low until a friend recommended this material, the read was so down to earth and right on the money, specially when the book breaks down everything by job title and possible Q&A.

It certainly help me land my current job, and the interview went just like the book depicts your current job title. I highly recommend this book, it will help you just like it did me. Good Luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for IT job seekers
For months I kept going to job interviews and was frustrated time after time after time. I never got call backs and I didn't understand what I was doing wrong. After a while I realized I needed an edge, and after searching for a while I stumbled across the Ace the IT job interview book. I read reviews for it and decided to spend the money. After reading it and following some of the instructions and doing many of the exercises, things changed dramatically. The first 2 interviews I secured after completing the book, I got called in for 2nd interviews, something that wasn't happening before. I narrowly missed out on those but my confidence was soaring. I went from a job seeker to a VITP (read the book to find out what that is) and thats how I started to come across. I secured another interview and I did so well they made the decision to hire me while I was interviewing with some other members of the I.T. team! (No lie).

I HIGHLY recommend this book to those of you who are going through what I went through. The market is tough for techies right now, so you have to stand out from the pack. This book will help you be prepared to snag your next job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Amazing IT interview book available; Highly Recommended
I started my job search months ago and was getting turned down left and right. I had no idea what I was doing wrong until I got some information from a recruiter on how to interview. I realized that there was a lot of information and ideas on interviewing I was clueless about. So I did my own research and decided to by this book.

After thouroughly reading it, I was amazed with the things that you can do an Interview. It enlightened me to a new style of interviewing. So I went to my next interview and the hiring manager liked me so much he offered me the management position, I couldn't believe it. This book is #1. If your tired of going on interviews with no responses afterwards. READ THIS BOOK!!! I guarantee you get the job that you want. I did and I did it myself. It really feels good to know you did it. That's All. Good Luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a gold mine! Helped me land a great PM job.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a job in IT. After unsuccessfully interviewing for a few positions, my friend told me about this book. It was like finding an answer key for a test! I read the chapters relevant to my situation and prepared a cheat sheet. I went in to my next interview brimming with confidence because I felt prepared for any question they could ask me. I am convinced it made the difference.

The most valuable part of the book for me was the sample questions and answers for specific job titles. During my interview the hiring manager asked three key questions that were straight out of the the Project Manager section of this book. I nailed the questions and got the job. If you are serious about finding a new job, this book is definitely worth your money and time, even if you only read one chapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book to have while interviewing
This is a pretty decent book to go thru a couple of times while you are hunting for jobs. For any single person, only a portion of the book would be useful, seeing that it addressess various job functionalities sequentially, so be ready to skip ahead whenever you are reading. The structure of the book is very good, and the language is direct, neither too preachy nor condescending. I liked the fact that I could look up the positions I am after, and base my preparations on what this book tells me to expect : it makes it easier for anybody to know what to prepare for.

At the same time, this book does not pretend to be comprehensive : a Java programmer might easily be asked many more questions than what appear here, and of different types too. But if you are paying attention while going thru the given questions, you could easily identify what exactly you would be found lacking in if you were in the hot seat right this moment.

For the price of a book, definitely worth it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beating the competition
That's what it's all about especially now that the i-banking field has contracted so much. Still, getting the grades, the right recommendations, landing the right internships, going out for a bunch of different extracurricular activities and then finally preparing as much as possible for the interviews are all key to getting the job you want. At least that's what i've found. I used this guide as part of the preparation process, having been recommended it by a college counselor. Best advice I ever got. Good stuff. Very thorough. I've received exactly the offer I wanted. All my work and research has paid off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely thorough preparation
This guide provided excellent preparation material. It covered everything from the pre-interview cocktail session to the follow-up after the interview. The information provided in the guide was clear and easy to follow, so that flipping through for review of specific information was a breeze. My copy is all dog-eared from nervously flipping throught it again and again during my plane ride to perform my interviews. But my nervousness proved unfounded. When I felt stuck during the interviews, I just thought back to what I had read in the guide, and everything went smoothly. I even got to choose among a few of the firms I was really interested in. I recommend this to anyone who wants to be an analyst on Wall Street, but feels like they need a little help getting through the interviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars Concise and helpful.
This guide is so compact that you can quickly get up to speed on I-Banking interviews in one night, if you had to. It truly covers only the essentials, without the clutter and filler that clogs other similar guides. If you can only afford one and you need a crash course, this is the one to go for.

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
This report was disappointing. A more useful report on IBanking interviews is the Vault.com 2002 Guide to Finance Interviews or the Harvard guide to finance careers.

Sure, some people enter preschool knowing what they want to be when they grow up. But most of us aren't so lucky, and we don't get much help. Some parents say things like, "It's your life, you decide." Other parents go to the other extreme, expecting you to follow in their footsteps. In high school, you take a career test, but many high school students laugh at their test results: the utterly useless, "You could pursue a wide range of careers."

It's designed for people of all walks of life to uncover rewarding, viable careers or get in on the ground floor of the next Big Things. What's more, this guide even offers tips to make even a humdrum job much better.

  • Getting smart about choosing, and making the most of, a career
  • Landing the job you want even if the thought of networking gives you the creeps and you don't have a 500-name Rolodex
  • Customizing your career to make any job better by tailoring it to your strengths and using wise approaches to your boss and co-workers

And, you'll find a fast yet substantive introduction to more than 500 good careers, including many unlikely suspects!

4-0 out of 5 stars A treasure chest of great ideas on how to choose a career.
This book gives you inside information on hundreds of careers, presented in an informative yet fun way. It shows you clever ways to learn more about a career. It shows you an easier way to write a great resume. It shows you how to use the Internet to land a job. It even shows you ways to get motivated to do your job search. I've never written a book review before but this book is very, very good!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book did change my life in more ways than one.
I first looked through the books' 404 pages and found many more options than I had thought. Then I answered the "20 most revealing questions" and learned useful information about whom I am. What makes the book really great is that it goes beyond insight - it helped me develop a step-by-step plan towards achieving my dreams. I did end up with a cool career. Who can ask for anything more?

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
Far too many of the suggested careers in this book are long shots, at best. Nemko makes it sound like if you're willing to get the necessary education or put some effort into getting some expreience, you can move into any of the niche areas he recommends in his book. If only that were true. Too many of his recommendations have long ago been discovered, or are simply areas in which your odds of being selected, even if you are a Harvard grad with impeccable credentials, are about the same as winning a state lottery.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad....But Not Great
I was somewhat disappointed with this book. Although it was organized very well, had a nice index, which made it easy to find things, and was written in a simple, right-to-the-point, easy to read way, the book was a little innacurate when it came to some job descriptions. For example there are many jobs which 5 years ago may not have required a college degree but due to the ultra-competitive world we live in now, they may now require a college degree. This was overlooked on a few of the careers listed. Take for instance becoming a foreign language/interpreting. This has become a highly competitive sought after job and the minimum requirement is not only being fluent in another language but to also have at least a Bachelor's Degree. Having lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, I know how cut throat the job market is so I was hoping that the author of this book was more aware of things like that. Even careers like becoming a police officer has changed quite a bit. Now many police departments require police recruits to have a college degrees, which was definitely NOT the case 5 or 10 years ago. But overall this book was fairly good. I recommend it just as long as you are aware that there may be a few flaws. I also think it depends on where you live. If you are from a super competitive urbanized part of the United States, like the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, or New York, remember that the standard for getting a decent jobs is completely different than anywhere else in the country. In fact I'm hoping oneday a book called "Cool Careers for People Living in California" will be published! Lol!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great summaries of various career opportunities!
I have been seriously considering changing my career at times and just happened to stumble upon Marty Nemko's website just the other day. I was impressed with many of the articles I read on his website and was eventually led to this book. The next day, I picked up this book at a local bookstore (I wanted it so bad, I couldn't wait to receive it from an online order!) I glanced through a number of books on interviewing, resume writing, cover letters, and so on, and found many excellent books focused specifically on those topics.

However, what really led me to purchase this book was Chapter 2 - "The Cool Careers Yellow Pages". The pages are yellow and obviously stand out purposely from the rest of the book. I have thoroughly read through these "yellow" pages more than half a dozen times (in one night), comparing different career options. I also read through the sections on cover letters and resumes, but they were a little too superficial. However, that's understandable as this is NOT a book about writing effective cover letters and resumes, and I was fine with that. It's not what I expected.

What I did expect from this book was to garner some important and key information about different career options, and that's exactly what I got. Chapter 2 makes this entire book worthwhile. I personally have never seen another book that categorizes and subcategorizes careers like this one. I found it a little difficult to find certain careers because I wasn't exactly sure how they would be categorized, but nevertheless, the categories are helpful. If you're a people person, this type of categorizing is what you need; if you're a numbers person -- the same. If you like a mix of both, the category is there. After reviewing all of the summary job types listed here, I now have a much better idea of "where I want to go" with my career. Many of the career listings point to very useful and helpful websites as well, which can give you more in-depth information.

If you're looking for a book about writing resumes or cover letters, this is NOT the book; again, it's too superficial for that purpose. If you're looking for a career (e.g., new college grad) or a career change or are looking to re-enter the workforce after being absent for some time, this IS the book you need to get started. Once you've narrowed down some career options, you can explore the Internet for much more detailed information. This book really helps narrow things down quite a bit - at least it did for me. ... * Presents the actual jobs and earnings of college graduates in 60 majors!
* The ONLY book based on a U.S. Census Bureau study of 150,000 college graduates.

This terrific handbook offers the most accurate and helpful information available for making decisions on a college major—or what to do with a degree you have. Readers learn which majors are the best investment, the job and salary prospects for specific majors, the employment growth rates for particular majors, and how many graduates go on to additional education.

The new second edition includes substantial new information, including the important steps to take before college to ensure future career success, the rising earnings premiums related to a college education, and the misinformation that exists about college costs and the belief that the "sticker price" of college is the final price. Each chapter describes the major and the courses it requires; discusses jobs that graduates actually obtain; and gives information on employers, tasks, and salaries. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed With Knowledge!
Lou Adler, president of the Power Hiring consulting and training company, provides a systematic approach for finding, interviewing and hiring the best candidate for a job. He emphasizes making an objective assessment and, to this end, he provides techniques for overcoming first impressions. He identifies four key interview questions you can use to determine job candidates' competency and motivation, and to match their skills and interests to your company's needs. The book includes charts and checklists that highlight important points. We recommend this well-organized guide to effective hiring to company owners, human resource personnel and managers involved in the hiring process. Alert job seekers may also find it useful to learn what a good interview will demand.

5-0 out of 5 stars An On-Target Update
The second edition of Lou Adler's Hire with Your Head takes the best of the original concepts and updates it with the latest insights on interviewing and the entire selection process. I've been able to introduce the POWER Hiring concepts to a major professional services with significant results including better retention and a reputation as an employer of choice. I've seen hundred's of clients report more confidence in their ability to accurately interview candidates.

One excellent example of this update should be a revelation to many managers and human resource professionals who have been inundated with books recommending the "152 Best Interview Questions." It's the answers, not the questions that count. Adler's POWER Hiring formula recognizes the importance of getting and properly evaluating candidate answers.

From the starting point of Performance Profiles to the insights on the latest recruiting tips, Lou Adler courageously tells managers and HR professionals what they're not doing right -- and what to do to make it right.

It's rare that I read both a first and second edition of the same book -- but this second edition captivated me with every chapter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply put, it works wonders for your recruiting
I have used POWER Hiring extensively in my executive search practice and have introduced the concepts to my clients. We have found the principles and concepts developed by Lou Adler to dramatically improve the quality of our client hires. Additionally it has allowed the transition by the candidate to their new role as employee to be smoother, with much clearer expectations. The result has been happier clients and candidates with fewer "surprises" as the employee assumed their new position. I would highly recommend Lou's book to anyone that wants to dramatically improve the quality of their hires.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT HELPS US HIRE GREAT SALES PEOPLE
This book is right on. My associates and I use the methodology from Hire With Your Head to sucessfully find, assess, and hire great sales people in record time. If you have a real need to hire the best, this book is a must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lou Adler's Hire With Your Head
This is by far the best book about hiring recently written. It's obvious Mr. Adler has been there. His expertise is clearly evident on every page. He takes the perspective of the hiring manager, the candidate, and the recruiter and shows how to bring everyone into the process.

It's clear this is not a book about interviewing. It is a book about hiring great people. While interviewing is a part of it, Mr. Adler clearly shows that understanding job needs, recruiting, sourcing, negotiating offers, and maintaining objectivity are the keys to hiring the best.

If you want to hire great people this is one book you should add to your library. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Do What You Love And The Money Will Follow
A few years ago I was in a working situation, whereby I lacked congruence. At the time personal congruence - i.e. mind, body, spirit enthusiastically moving toward the right fitting goal - meant nothing to me. I just thought I lacked success. Working hard showed no reward. Somewhere I got this book. At first, I found the beginning a bit lukewarm, however, when I began to highlight later quotes,I soon realized that this Sinetar gal was onto some hot liberating insights. I gathered no reward from my hard work, because I was working hard in the wrong livelihood- not using my innate talents and momentum. As Americans we blindly accept the creed of the work ethic. Working smarter is a better creed. As someone said,"If hard work makes wealth andhappiness, than ditch diggers should be happy millionaires." Doing what you love gets youworking eagerly and joyfully. People see me now in my propercareer and always comment on my high energy level.I'm complimented for "working hard." It's more like I'm having a ball. The book helped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I am a big believer in "do what you love, the money will follow." However if that's so, why do some many people do what they love and the money does not follow?

The answer lies in 2 things.

1. They want the money too quickly
2. They don't think like a business owner. Marketer. Salesperson.

For example, my motivational role model Jack Canfield, back in 1992 thought up an idea of compiling emotional stories about overcoming obstacles and living your dream, (that turned into chicken soup for the soul mega best-selling series). But what is most remarkable is that Mark V Hanson, who joined him, was the key to making the series into a MONEY MAKING PROPOSITION. You see I think that Jack was doing it for the love of helping people and then the money, while Mark was doing it for the money then the love. Don't get me wrong. Mark V Hanson is a great I guy. He is not at all a money hungry charlatan. He is interested in helping people change their lives. However compared to Jack, he is more interested in making money.

The bottom line is do what you love, but if then money is not following, get a partner, a salesperson, someone to market your skills. Hope that helps.

Zev Saftlas, Author of Motivation That Works: How to Get Motivated and Stay Motivated

2-0 out of 5 stars bland
perhaps it's the fact that the author who narrates her own book has a very monotone, flat voice--this is the disadvantage to an audiobook--you have the voice and tone qualities to factor in also--which isn't entirely fair. i found it bland and heard my mind replying "yeah, but we know that--that's why i bought the book!" anyway, there is a man who asks her questions and she responds--audio interview format--

1-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration without a cause
It may be inspirational and it brings tears of joy to my eyes, but hey, what about the "what's" and "how's"? Empty.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good book, but mostly inspirational, even fluffy
Perhaps it deserved more than 3 stars -- when it came out, which was a while ago; unfortunately I'm unable to evaluate this book in its, so to say, original historical context. I can only say what it feels like right now: it is intelligent and inspiring, but at the same time, like all of the rest of the self-help genre, in the final reckoning, it overpromises and underdelivers. It will motivate and I'm sure that for some people it will be helpful, but, friends, let's be honest, we're not 15 years old anymore -- doing what you love has nothing to do with the supposedly following money; god forbid you buy this totally unjustified proclamation literally. Do some empirical research, and you will find that not only there's no direct relation between your professional predilections and remuneration, but that statistically, people following their tastes do actually earn little. Ask around, read biographies (how many cultural icons, famous musicians, for example, had to unload trucks as a day job, or lead thoroughly impoverished lives, and how many have actually died broke; in fact, purely quantitatively you'll discover that doing what you love is likely to result in personal martyrdom -- van Gogh comes to mind -- which, btw, is fine, if that's what you want and had no illusions all along.)

Of course, even though nothing in the book suggest that, one can take the title figuratively, that is, be what you are and then *IF* the money follows, you'll be happier than if you've earned a good living by doing something you don't like. Or, perhaps one can say, do what you love, and *even if you don't make any money*, you may end up happier long-term, than if you sacrifice your nature to some money-making but unpleasant, or simply indifferent profession. Or, one could say, doing what you like will enable you to do more and more easily, and so rather than "do what you like" we should say "avoid doing what you definitely dislike" since the money only seems a good motivator, but in the end, you won't be able to perform well and will fail not only to enjoy life, but to earn anything as well. But that's not what the title says, is it? So, there's an awful lot of unsubstantiated pep talk in the book, which, like I've just said, is good for motivation, but nothing more. In fact, it may be harmful to someone who would rely on the proposed relation between personal fulfillment and money-earning capacity. This I'm sure, sells books allright, but it's your life! -- be realistic, learn the real stories and bios, then motivate yourself all you want, but with the knowledge of the real life, with realistic expectations.

Of course, it is frequently the case that people do not pursue their preferences purely out of fear or even some trivial reasons, and in many such cases they would do well at least to try to, as it were, set themselves loose. But, no, do not ever expect that "the money will follow". It may not, and history teaches us that in a huge number of cases it actually doesn't. Instead, depending on a multitude of factors -- subjective as well as objective -- it *may*. With that in mind, it's an OK read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book if you want the ultimate edge.......
After following the advice from this book, I went on to secure what I now consider to be my ultimate job. Being fine-tuned for the I.T. industry, it easily surpasses the advice from any other resume or career-oriented book. Consider it a worthy investment in your future, the returns far surpass the purchase price.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book is Awesome!
I've just recently read "Ace the IT Resume!" and I can't wait to put this excellent advice into practice. I've had a lot of jobs, hence a lot of resumes, over the years, and I can see some things I've done wrong. With the information here, I'm sure my "new and improved" resumes will get the attention I deserve! Nice job everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ace the IT Resume!
This book is excellent!!! If you think your resume is good, think again. Follow the steps in this book and you'll see a totally new person. I used it in conjunction with Ace the IT Job Interview and it got me a job.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrifying!
I do not know where these women got their credentials, but they are WAY off the mark! DO NOT LIE ON YOUR RESUME! No matter what this book recommends! For instance, the authors state: "If your offical title is Tech Level I, you might be responsible for database administration, PC support, and webmaster duties. If you're hoping to move into DBA, list 'database administrator' as the job title and as the first bullet describe your responsibilities in this function." Wrong, wrong, wrong! As a hiring manager and interviewer, if I discover you lied about your job title, especially when you were a Tech I and you claimed to be a DBA, I will wonder what else you lied about. And believe me, I'll find out when I call your previous employers to verify your employment history. No, instead, when in this situation, downplay, emphasize the job title you want, and even omit your job titles, and use the opportunity to emphasize your skills. That way, even if you don't have the right job title, you can demonstrate to me that it doesn't matter. But NEVER, EVER lie or deliberately mislead anyone. Then they'll just feel like you were trying to trick them, which is NOT very impressive.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best tech resume book on the market
My survey of resume books was disappointing until I found this one. This book helped me translate my military experience into a robust resume better than any "military transition" book I read. No question it will work the same for recent college grads or self-employed IT folks. The authors understand the differences the tech people face when creating a resume vs. the standard admin/clerical/business formats. Plenty of examples included--I didn't need to buy an extra book for sample resumes to cover a range of scenarios and backgrounds. It took my average resume and streamlined it into an effective, TARGETED tool. I was pretty impressed and now recommend it to everyone in the sector looking for a job. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 101 Best... has great tips in the back!
I bought this book based on the reivews in this site, and it is a really good one. The resumes have a wide variety of examples and are very high-powered/professional. But to my surpirse, there are 200 quick and lean job search tips in the back, and they're great. They helped out on interviewing, writing resumes and letters, working with headhunters and interviewing. This is a great value if you need a job search book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Resumes that match candidate skills with employer's needs
This book is very good for several reasons: It gives the best variety of resumes (the best from the Professional Association of Resume Writers, over 1000 members), just enough how-to without overkill and 200 tips bulleted off in the back that are very information rich (see back cover copy). The resumes focus on positioning the candidate's skills and matching them to the employer needs. The book also includes sample cover letters that are more action-oriented than the typical ones I saw in other books. I found several resumes that I could emulate and use, particularly those on pages 56 and 118.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I found the book to be very helpful. It had some useful tips and sample resumes and cover letters. One of the best books of its type I've ever seen

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring and a waste of time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Pick

OK. Where was this book when I was looking for my first job? It's practical, lively, and filled with helpful advice. I'd recommend it to any job-seeker!

For the person that is willing to put the time into doing the exercises the rewards are great. This is especially true for those still in school/college without a lot of work experience.

The review that was placed with this book title is judging the book not as a text book that is part of a classroom setting. I am sure that any text book would get a poor review when quick/easy answers are wanted. But when true knowledge and a sure path is wanted, this textbook has more depth than a 50 page quick fix. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Simply Lands Jobs!
Great book gives you all the insider information that you need to get the job of your dreams. I am in the final interview process with the regional manager and couldn't be happier. I loved the book and used all of the knowledge from it to get by my first 5 interviews with a breeze. Great book, low price, can't beat it. Thanks Lisa for all the help!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book & Even Greater Service
Prior to reading this book I felt I had a very good idea of what landing a pharmaceutical job would take. After reading the book I quickly realized that I may have been giving myself a bit too much credit. The Manger Surveys, sample interview questions, brag book suggestions, and follow-up chapters are the one's I found most informative. This book definitely taught me techniques that will help me stand out from the crowd both before and after securing an interview.

The service provided by Lisa Alexander and her staff have also been excellent. I have e-mailed Lisa and her staff approximately four times since completing the book and have received a reply within 24 hours every time. The questions she has answered and tips she has offered me via e-mail alone are worth the $29.95 I paid for the book.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone that is serious about entering the Pharmaceutical Sales Industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive and encouraging resource you will find
After too many job rejections, I was about to give up- PharmRepSelect was recommended to me by the Manager that interviewed me but did not offer me the job- He knew it would help my interview performance. It did , every page is filled with practical, sound usable advice. The examples and stories are so clear that I was able to immediately see what I could do better on my next interview. I am now in the industry and recommend this book to anyone that is discouraged. PharmRepSelect will keep you from giving up and increase your chances tenfold of getting the job offer.

1-0 out of 5 stars no help at all
This book won't help you much at all. There's nothing in here you won't find in some of the other books that have much more to offer. I also bought the cd, it sounds like something a high school speech class put together.
When you buy the book and cd together, you're supposed to be able to e-mail questions to the author directly. I tried that and never heard back from her even once. ... Read more
