Formulas done right
This book is very good. I really like the way the formulas are given, with all the variables immediatelly defined. When reading it was amazing. As the questions arose in my mind as to what something meant, the next sentence or two satisfied my curiosity.
While other books tend claim that a piece of information is "beyond the scope of this text" (yet then expect knowledge of the topic), Ogota takes a couple of extra paragraphs to explain the basics of what is needed for better understanding.

Control system design the way it was meant to be!
This is an excellent controls text. All concepts are beautifully explained and developed. The examples in the book are clear and concise and the exercises cover a broad range of control system design applications. One of the greatest perks of this book is the extensive coverage of MATLAB applications to control system design. Not only do you learn how to do it mathematically but you learn how to program and let MATLAB aid you. You get double the learning for the price of one text!

Art of modern control in one masterpiece!!!
First of all, the book is written by an extraordinary authority in the field, one of few such professionals in the world. It covers the whole subject of modern control engineering, so if You know most of it, what is in the book, You know a lot of the subject. There are many clear and precise physical models, block diagrams, MatLab instructions, the results given by a computer, the problems solved or/and explained by the language of mathematics and theory of control. ALL IN ONE. The book is The Art of Modern Control Engineering. However, You have to have at least some physical and mathematical bases to learn and see the beauty and art of it all.

Feedback Analysis & Design
I used this book for two semesters. The only downside is that this book is too thick, but the new edition looks better. I found the MATLAB program(s) very useful, in addition to a bunch of solved sample problems at the end of each Chapter. I have been told that the latest edition has information on Signal Flow Graphs (Mason's Rule), which is very critical if you are analysing the topic of Controls from an Electrical Engineer's point of view.

Great Book!
Great book essential for getting started! (The autodesk book "Gettign Started" certainly doesn't. Nor does the online training included with ADT.) Very thoughtfully laid out and really gets you into the "guts" of the product in short order. CD included has a great setup for doing residential and commercial work...you can use it to set up your shop. Any corrections or clarifications in the book or on the CD are on paulaubin.com. As software is a work in progress, so are these books on the software, and the site includes some important clarifications that have come out since the release of 3.3. If you need to know ADT, buy this book.

Great Book....
I've had a bit of experience having started with Cadence and then moved on to Autocad, Softdesk and eventually ADT. However I've had very little formal training (one time at Autodesk University). For that level of experience the book is excellent... no idea how it would be for people just starting out or unfamiliar with ADT.

I'm about 3/4 fo the way through the book and while much of it is a review there are great portions that have filled in gaps and eased the transition to the new management system.

For people in circumstances similar to my own I'd highly recommend this book.

Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop
A good book over all but lacks the finer points for using the program. I would recommend the book for someone who has not had much experience using AutoCAD.

Try to figure out how to create i.e. Schedules
Good book, but it could be better. You have to think the deepest tough to figure out where is the beginning and or the end of many procedures. Try to figure out the best way to approach the creation on a Door Schedule in 2d, for example.Good luck

Avoid this book-Written By Master for Master
The reason I got this book was the price and some of the good review by buyers. Unfortunitely I didn't take the words of the buyer who gave this book a rating of 1. This book really is confusing. Let me warn you this book is not for beginners or even expert current AutoCAD 2002 users like me. This is more suited for current ADT user upgrading to v3.3. The way the book layout is hard to understand. It start off with the MOST confusing part of CAD,Display. The instructions make you go in circles and by the time you finish all the steps you forget how to do it. Following the instructions are somewhat difficult for a experience 2002 user due to lack of pictures so forget about it being a beginners. I'm sure the people who crafted this book put alot of time on it but it's not a very good layout book. Sorry about the 1 star rating but this is the highest I can give. It's a sure return. ... Absolutely the best reference book on cosmetics ingredients
Let me tell you, this book is worth every dollar, do not be scared off by the price! Over 2,000 ingredients reviewed in an easy to comprehend way, you don't have to be an expert in chemistry to find out what exactly is in your favourite cream - effective ingredients or just pore-clogging chemicals, preservatives and irritants! I have recently completed a course in Esthetics and have found the book to be helpful by changing technical terms and information into easily understood definitions and uses. The book is written by the same publisher as the text book that I studied from and found it to be easy reading and understandable. I would compare it to A Consumers Dictionary of Cosmetic Indegredients by Ruth Winter. Both are excellent reference books but I feel that Milady's uses general terms and applies to the break down of the product indegredients used in skin care and not just make-up application. A full exposure of the topic - from History to Application
I read all the other reviews, I get a feeling they are all from students. As a practicing professional in this field for the past 20 years, I can say that as Boles'"What Color is your Parachute" is the bible for Job Seekers, Zunker's "Career Counseling: Applied concepts of Life Planning" is the bible for the Career Counselor. I find Zunker's information well exposed for easy comprehension. His writing style is simple and straight-forward. I believe the book is well structured for its purpose and didn't get a 5 star rating because It should be more economical in pricing.

Vague and inconclusive
While there is an immensely broad array of career counseling topics covered in this book, it is extremely poorly written and is of little use. The author fails to define the key terms, and only vaguely discusses the key concepts. For example, Zunker fails to effectively explain Donald Super's career maturity factors e.g., Zunker full definition of Super's crystallization of traits is, "individual progress toward forming a self concept." In addition, Zunker writes in an extremely passive, wordy, vague style more tailored to impress academics than to be relevant for students.

Can I get my money back?
Like the other review this is a book I used for a graduate class in ed counseling. I needed safety pins to keep my eyes open. This book is too broad and covers too much. If I ever wanted to go into career counseling I wont now cause its toooooooo boring after this book.

not recommended covers too much for one book
I used this book for a graduate career counseling course. It didn't set career development in an economic history which would explain why theory developed the way it did. Additionally, the book doesn't explain many of the theories so the student can dilineate the differences between them. the author states that career counseling will soon integrate with other forms of counseling and yet, he doesn't point out obvious relationships between career theory and other psychological and developmental theories. There is a lot of guidence on counseling which covers both general and career skills. I would have liked the assessment section to be much bigger and more practical and the school assessment section to be much smaller. Zunker has an assessment book and should probably take his huge section on school counseling and make a book from that. All together the book was very dry and boring.

dull and unhelpful
this was a textbook used in one of my graduate school classes, and even reading it was a chore. There was virtually no "applied" information - nothing about how to actually do career counseling with a live human being. A Student's Review
A comprehensive guide to floral care and designing. The author has complete instructions with illustrations which are very helpful.
The author also teaches concepts through repetition and ties the chapters together by reviewing past concepts.

Excellent Textbook of the Basics of Floral Design
We used this textbook in our 'intro to floral design' course at Texas A&M University. I thought it did an excellent job of teaching all of the basic design principles, and it also had very good pictures and diagrams to aide in the learning. Unfortunately, I sold this book at the end of the semester, and I wish that I had kept it. I have been looking for a more economically priced floral design book, as complete as this one, and have not been able to find it. I you are a beginning designer, or need the ultimate floral design reference, this is the book for you!

Textbook Style Book
This is a great book. It is a textbook style book, so it is a little on the technical side. If you are interested in retail floristry then you will find it to be a great book. But if you are a hobbyist or are looking for a book to give you ideas for arrangements to place around the house/office this book maybe more technical than you want.

Lacks good design, but great practical knowledge.
Norah Hunter was my floral design instructor, so of course, we used her book. Coming from a strong design background, I think that the arrangements are at best mediocre and lacking creativity. Some of the design theories seem over simplified to me as well. However, although the design instruction falls short in my opinion, the practical knowledge she teaches about flower names, running a floral business, care and handling, etc. are invaluable to anyone working in the floral industry. The book also contains an excellent appendix of flower and foliage names with illustrations.

Skin Care Beyond the Basics
Lee's book is a must for all estheticians (skin care specialists) and medical personnel looking for a simple-to-understand text directed to teach and provide review about basic skin chemistry, ingredient chemistry, skin disorders, their causes, challenges, and how to treat. Read it cover to cover
One of the finest books on Digital Logic Design. Read it cover to cover make full use of its content.

Very readable
As a software engineer working in embedded applications environment, I needed to pick up digital electronics fundamentals fast. This book was extremely helpful, and enabled me to better understand the often-cryptic datasheets of microcontrollers.

Crystal Clear
When I took digital design class, I struggled to find a book that is easy to understand. I tried to read several books, including Roth's book, all of them are hard to understand. Thankfully I bought Floyd's book and his book is the best digital design book I have ever read so far.
1.) It has lots of colorful diagram that clearly illustrate the topics in each chapter.
2.) Each topic has its own exercises, and each exercises has solutions provided at the end of each chapter. Doing the exercises improves my understanding of the subject.
3.) Lots of examples in each topic. If you read and understand the examples, you can do the exercises.
4.) It covers some digital technology, including the PLD.
5.) Once you finish reading this book, you will be ready to read advanced digital design book.

This book was mostly through. but many times there were parts that were assumed and it was never mentioned in the text. but I learned alot from the book and would recommend it for a student of Electrical Engineering.

Good for first year EECS program.
You can gain the basic digital logic design knowledge using this book in no time! that is not always sufficient for people who wants to get A grade rather you can just make it your introduction and so soon move to part two (that is up to your current course).
My advice is : get this book unless you have passed this level!

Best of its kind
I used this book for a course on Digital Electronics. Its great. The book has a great typeset, clear and crisp fonts that go easy on the eyes, well structured (such that you read what you need in order to understand the next chapter). The book is illustrated with apt diagrams. I would consider this book to be beginner-intermediate. This book is a good starting point for learn digital stuff, and a good reference after you learn digital stuff. Its hard to find a book as good as this one.

Want to study at home?
This is the book for you. I am a 32 year old U.S. Army leader. I instruct at the U.S. Army Signal Center. I have no time for traditional education. This book is a masterful work and well suited for anyone who desires an intimate knowledge of digital systems, but has no prior background. If you don't have time
to take a traditional college course. GET THIS BOOK! Better than any classroom instruction this book will give you all the fundamentals in a clear and concise manner. Wonderful book.

EXCELLENT!
I use this book for a digital course im taking. Its GREAT at conveying information in a manner that you can understand. It starts of SIMPLE (things like number systems), and takes you to the basics of circuits (AND, OR, NOR, NAND, NOR, gates), and then takes you into some very detailed things. By the time your done with this you will be able to design your OWN circuits and impress your friends :-)

Excellent Resource
This book was the text my instructor assigned in an interpersonal communication class I took a few years ago. It is very readable, as are all books by the Coreys. It covers a wide range of topics and it uses case examples to illustrate the points. It isn't a counselling book in terms of having alot of exercises on questioning or empathy. It does discuss counselling skills, but it is more concerned with the worker's personal development, in terms of ethics, self-awareness, self-care, etc. The suggested activities at the end of the chapter really help the learning process. My only criticism of the book is that a few of the chapters are a tad long. ... Read more

The 2nd Edition adds a lot
I haven't seen the first edition of this book, but judging from reviews (all of which are dated before the 2nd Edition came out, which was December 2002), the 2nd Edition has added a lot of new material that addresses some of the criticisms of the first edition. I used a pre-publication draft of this book in a class with Professor Chandrakasan last fall, and it covered topics such as transistor sizing, crosstalk and transmission line effects, threshold voltage level effects, logic synthesis (though this book does not go into HDL design), and many other more advanced topics.

It's also been made more up-to-date, removing a lot of the dated material some reviews on this page have been complaining about.

Since I am just learning this material, I cannot comment on how relevant or complete this new edition really is, but I would urge anyone who was disappointed with the first edition to check out the 2nd edition. Actually, I'd urge everyone who used the first edition to check it out. From what I've seen, it's like a completely different book.

very nice textbook for undergrad students
You are wrong if you think this book is out-of-date.
It contains all the information needed to get for a
undergrad. Of course, it doesn't cover all the concepts
, technology in digital circuit design. But you get
enough material to study for class (one or two semesters).
Most schools still use this book as textbook now.

DIC is an average textbook
Like most circuit design books, DIC doesn't cover issues that a serious circuit designer should know about. It does not mention or barely covers transistor sizing techniques, drive strengths for standard cell libraries, antenna rule checks, synthesis, and signal integrity issues like crosstalk. Sequencing elements like flipflops and latchs and memory design are covered poorly. Despite this, pipelining and parallelism are covered fairly effectively compared to other texts. Many other circuit design books are also fairly outdated now with respect to semiconductor technology. For instance at 10um cmos technology, leakage power is significant, but a casual reader would never know that you should increase the transistor threshold voltage or lengths on circuits on non-critical timing paths to control this nanometer effect.

Excellent Book
This is an excellent textbook for students and a good reference guide for circuit designer. It's hard to find a book that covers all the important materials about digital IC's in such a complete and systematic approach. The diagrams and examples in the book help readers to understand the subject. I have several other VLSI books but this one is the easiest to understand and yet it doesn't lose the depth it needs to cover for digital circuit design. A must have book if you are a student and trying to master the digital stuff. Great book!

Needs a big internal facelift
The authors' Preface clearly states that "over the years, we have learned that improved readability can be attained through general appearance of the text."

Well what if I tell these authors that their publisher, Prentice Hall, still hasn't achieved their stated and important goal even after 8 editions of this textbook.

They begin by poorly printing all the text's equations in the text jacket cover using horizontal format which is very difficult to read and locate a given equation. They should take a good look at a competing textbook by Floyd.

Floyd does indeed achieve what these two authors intended goal: of making the appearance help the reader want to read the text but have yet to actually achieve it. Floyd also has more technical topics which Boylestad et al clearly have left out in their textbook.

Boylestad is finally being dropped at my college after being criticized for some of the things I just mentioned above. Floyd is now being used.

Students like Floyd's easy format and other easy to follow features.

Simplistic and Error Prone...
This book has to be the worst book on electronics ever. I had to use this book for my second course in electronics and it was just too simplistic and not in-depth enough. The examples are very simplistic and the worst part of the book is the problems. The problems are basically identical in difficulty to the examples with the "numbers" changed around. One can not even read the book and solve all the problems by simply flipping back to the examples and copying them. And I haven't even mentioned the ton of errors in the book. Every other formula is wrong and the notion is very poor and ambigous. If you are getting this book to help you in a course, good luck... You better hope your prof. gives excellent lectures and take good notes.

Helpful in Analyzing my Semiconductor Biasing
I used this book during my junior in college and was so helpful in my analysis about transistors, how to bias them and the authors explanation about the Small Signal Analysis in AC Amplification. This book is one of the best books books I read about design analysis and design simplification

Quite good book for basic-intermediate electronic students

A good reference for PLC beginners.
I used this book with great success in the course, Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers, which I developed for a leading aircraft manufacturer. This book was recommended reading prior to attending other PLC courses offered in my training business.

Clear and concise with practical information for beginners
I used this book to train industrial electricians and recommended it in the PLC course I designed at Coyne American Institute in Chicago in 1989. They still use the book along with a lab manual and Allen Bradley PLC's in the electrical maintenance course. I reviewed other books and felt this one was the right choice for the length of course, training level and content. It is clearly written with hardware and instruction set examples from various PLC manufacturers, troubleshooting, number systems, start-up hints and some useful general computer information. Also included is a chapter on understanding MS-DOS commands-very handy for people (a lot of them around) with no computer background except a point-and-click once in a while. The soft cover format, number of pages (372) and size make it easy to carry and throw in a brief case. If you are learning PLC's for the first time, this is a good place to start. If I was going to add anything to it for the next edition, I would include things like data highway, serial communications, remote displays and PID loop. This book will make you interview-savvy !
Beyond a "Must-Read"--this is a "Must-Do" personal coaching workbook. Best book for quickly getting the basics that I am aware of
The title and editorial reviews live up to their billing (with one very minor exception - see below).

As a former CEO of a software company who has been asked to consult to a fabless semiconductor design company, I needed to get up to speed on the basics of semiconductor technology as well as the value chain of the industry. This book provided the technology basics and then related it all to the general business world, something that is important to me as the company is supported by venture capitalists whose focus is both technology and economic success.

The author explains technology concepts in a very readable fashion for the layman. For example, in describing FPGAs, he writes, "Programmable logic chips are like electronic Etch-a-Sketches, ready to use but not really finished. Customers imprint their own design onto them, making their own semicustom chips. . . Like a Etch-a-Sketch, you can erase the chip and start over any time you want, so there's no risk."

This book provides a great overview and starting point. I've searched and bought several books related to the basics of semiconductors and found most of them to be too high-level or too much like a text book with a lot of math exercises. This one delivers what is claimed. In fact, I rated another book 1-star, so my 5-stars for this book indicates an uninflated opinion of its helpfulness to me.

A minor drawback is the editorial review claims it is sufficiently detailed for technical readers. Technical readers who want to understand the business of semicon or aspects outside of their direct field of work will likely find this book valuable, but if they are seeking technical details, there are better books out there.

There are a few things I wish the book covered in more depth, such as more about specific applications that the author believes is going to be hot; however, that is more of a personal preference and I would not downgrade the book on this account.

Finally, this book is part of a library of books in the Essential Guide Series by Prentice Hall. Other titles include Essential Guide: - to XML, - to Storage Area Networks, - to Telecommunications, etc. I will know where to look next time I need overviews on industries I am unfamiliar with. ...
