5-0 out of 5 stars Rush Style
Sometimes an infinitive can only be split, sometimes a paragraph is just one sentence, and sometimes a sentence has to end with a preposition. PLAIN STYLE business writing breaks the rules when that is what it takes to be what works best for readers and writers: concise, emphatic and simple. The author says that it is always easy to simplify: ape good speaking and think of the reader ready to boil things down, misunderstand and read words, not the dictionary or the writer's mind. Richard Lauchman's entertainingly helpful book works wonders with CLEAR TECHNICAL WRITING by John A. Brogan, TECHNICAL WRITING by William S. Pfeiffer, and THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO GRAMMAR AND STYLE by Laurie Rozakis. ... Read more

Book Description

Business, like any adventure, begins with a leap into the unknown

Brian Tracy's first dream was of a journey. Not a leisurely drive to the beach or a weekend campout-a wide open adventure that would take him 17,000 miles from his home on Canada's Pacific Coast all the way to South Africa.

His journey- a harrowing series of false starts, long days, and narrow escapes- taught him about "becoming unstoppable," not only in pursuing adventure but in daily life and business as well. The road to business success is just as exciting and dangerous and rewarding as a trek across the Sahara. Succeeding-sometimes even surviving-requires vision, courage, persistence, and the willingness to accept responsibility for your own actions.

In the end, Brian's arduous trek changed his life- and his way of thinking about life and business.

5-0 out of 5 stars Many Stars that shine
I have listened to and admired Brian Tracy for years and have often wondered where he came from.He is so confident and self assured. And most of all extremely knowledgable about people and sales. Some of us go to the college of hard knocks instead of the University however Brian put those experiences to awesome use.It was nice to get to know him starting out along the path to success.
I urge anyone who is a seeker to read this. I hope he continues the story .

3-0 out of 5 stars Uncanny reading
I read this book through in less than one day and found it essentially a pleasant adventure story with one very important message: you can be a naive idiot and still succeed if you have the correct attitude and strength. Brian and his colleagues made many undisputedly stupid decisions which burnt their fingers. However their response to the consequences was what saw them through. This message has value, since we all make less than perfect decisions on a regular basis (those of us who venture to actively make decisions, that is!). Brian Tracey hammers home that we should continue to make decisions even if it is apparent we are making wrong ones and proposes an attitude toward this, via the parable of his book.

Sometimes the book did seem to read a "truism" into every event, and often these "truisms" would contradict each other. I felt there was too much of this and it was not pointed out strongly enough that, sometimes, both "too many cooks spoil the broth" and "many hands make light work" could apply - it is up to one's judgement which has most weight in a given situation.

Generally a good read, and one I could relate to with my own life. Don't take every word of wisdom too seriously, but enjoy Brian's very good writing hand, and I hope you (as I did) will gain something worthwhile in terms of attitude from this tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tracy is King
When it comes to motivational speaking and writing, nobody tops Tracy. Personally, motivation doesn't do much for me. Instead, I read stories of what NOT to do in business, like what they have on the Not Yet Successful Entrepreneur Zone....

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than watching a Rocky movie!!!
This is a great "I can do it" story. I loved the book and couldn't put it down. I can't imagine taking on such a journey and this book made me feel like I was right there along side them. It was an interesting, fascinating read. Moreover, it taught me just what we are capable of as human beings and why failures happen...we give up at the ONE yard line...when just ONE more effort may be "the" one that delivers success.
This is a must read book for anyone wanting to make positive changes in their life.
Well done Brian! I just wish the book wouldn't have ended so soon. I wanted to know more of the stories that you didn't share, more of the journey.....Sequel!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Lessons in Life
...
Brian Tracy draws from his experience to give lessons on leadership and decision making. Faced with dissapointment, hunger, thirst, but armed with a desire for adventure, he and his buddies set out to discover Africa. Of the three adventurers only two complete the journey. He draws from this wonderful experience to with which he illustrates many fantastic teaching points. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hard Day's Write
Write the way you talk so your writing sounds natural. Think of the reader's background and level of responsibility: make it easy for the reader to figure out why you are writing and what you want. Be concise and to the point: back up ideas and recommendations with facts and opinions. Fight writer's block by working on orderly flow and by making sure that you know all you need to write. Marcia Layton's humorously written, logically organized and well-indexed COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO TERRIFIC BUSINESS WRITING jumpstarts just about every kind of writing around. Her book puts into practice Edward P. Bailey's THE PLAIN ENGLISH APPROACH TO BUSINESS WRITING, Robert W. Bly and Gary Blake's THE ELEMENTS OF BUSINESS WRITING, Richard B. 5-0 out of 5 stars lots of good information
The book is barely 500 pages long, but it has everything that anyone would possibly need to know about public relations. There are tons of public relations tools, such as the news release, press release, flyer, public service announcement, pamphlet, brochure, newsletter, fact sheet and media list, and they are all introduced very clearly. This text was required for a course I took in college over a year ago, and I chose not to sell it back to the school because it was so useful. It's great for entry-level workers that are trying to get acclamated to the business of public relations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Etiquette that's fun and useful!
"Office Emails" offers up a unique blend of useful etiquette and fun reading. The book is geared toward business application but has priceless gems for the everyday emailer like the "Top Ten Don'ts. " Here are a few: Don't send emails without greetings or closings. Don't label emails as urgent that aren't. Don't send private or confidential info over email. Don't spam. If people just adhered to these four I'd be quite pleased.

This book is full of clear concise descriptions and examples of proper email techniques as well as great quotes and inciteful prose on digital communication. For example, Mr. Dworkin says: "Instant messaging is to email what the telephone was to the telegraph... One of the useful differences between instant messaging and voice is the availability of a conversational history. Every IM conversation is akin to having a personal court stenographer. Gone are the disputes about what was said. One only needs to scroll to see the entire conversation exactly as it transpired."

I recommend this book to anyone who comunicates by computer and look forward to more books in the "Don't Stub your Pinkie" series.

5-0 out of 5 stars For anyone having to deal with business oriented email
Office Emails That Really Click: Don't Stub Your Pinkie On The Space Bar provides all the information necessary for effectively sending and receiving emails in the workplace. Maureen Chase and Sandy Trupp successfully collaborate to explain how to sort through the masses of emails that is now a part of the daily corporate landscape. They show the reader how to respond to emails from CEOs, entrepreneurs, junior staff, middle managers, and anyone else. They explain how to write an email so that the recipient will be persuaded to read it. Highly recommended and very useful reading for anyone having to deal with business oriented email, Office Emails That Really Click also provides the latest virus information, grammar tips, and has a useful "E-Quiz" feature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers Everything about Emails
I found this book to be simple, quick to read and also very thorough. Covers every facet of emailing from grammar, tool bar functions, etiquette, spamming and viruses to name a few. Filled with lot's of examples of good and bad emails to demonstrate each facet of the book.

I have read a couple of the other books on this topic avaialable and this one is the best.

1-0 out of 5 stars If there were negative stars I'd award them to this book
After reading this book I have the distinct impression that the authors a) have never worked in an office\corporate environment and b) have not used an email system developed later than the 1970s....

They seem to believe that email in the corporate environment has taken over from letters - instead of memos - who can ever remember a memo that started or ended with personalised messages...? Certainly emails written for customers ie people external to the organisation require this but intra-departmental? To a peer? get real...

Just to be really irritating you could save your money and read just the first page (a top 10 list) and have covered off the entire book - which simply repeats each of the items in the list.

If you want a really good book on the subject then E Writing by Dianna Booher is a far better option! She covers the same situations PLUS A LOT MORE...

5-0 out of 5 stars A new discovery!
You might think you know everything there is to know about email. Just wait until you read this book! This book has been very helpful to me in the office and in my personal life. I most definitely recommend it! ... Read more
