Sandra Boynton turns on the charm again in this story about a cuddlydino who refuses to go to bed until he (or she) has the right comfort object. A reflective silvery moon, some pull-out flaps, and a liftable bedspread with a reluctant hero hiding beneath it offer the very small reader a way into the story. The "Binkit" itself, a piece of soft yellow felt, can be stroked for reassurance. Reluctant bedtimers from one to three will enjoy this introduction to the idea of a bedtime routine that ends with comfort, closed eyes, and peace. (Baby to age 3) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this book is great
I love this book. I gave it to my nephew (he's 2) and he loves it too! The pictures hidden behind the flaps are surprising and funny. Most small children can relate to the Dinosaur who can't find his binkit at bedtime (adults can appreciate it as well). This is a book that adults won't have to dread reading it over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice book for little ones
Sandra Boynton's book, Dinosaur's Binkit is a sweet and short bedtime story. A dinosaur who is getting ready for bed can't find his "binkit". Little one's can lift flaps and touch the soft blanket. My son hear's "I want my binkit" and immediately picks up the book. It is easily becoming a family favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
This one of the most special children's books I have ever read. Almost every night, my 2 yo twins go to sleep with the sounds of "Where's my binkit!?" The girl twin refuses to go to bed unless she has it. BTW, we are on our second copy of it now...

5-0 out of 5 stars Darling
My 2 year old son loves this story. He loves to lift the flaps and the felt bed cover looking for Dinosaur. Now he also has a "binkit". It is still one of his favorites, even after 6 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Much Junk Food
This, like all other Berenstain Bears books, teaches a valuable lesson about eating healthy. It's a great story to inspire your child to eat healthy.
It all starts when Mama bear notices her cub are getting a bit chubby. So she takes all of the junk food in their house and locks it in the freezer. Well Papa bear wasn't too happy about this but he went along with it anyways. The next day the bears go to the grocery store. Mama Bear passes all the junk food and heads straight for the healthy food. At the checkout counter they run into their family doctor who tells them to stop by the next day. When they get there she shows them a slide show of how the body works and how much it needs healthy food. She also tells them to exercise.
This is a great story for kids who have a sweet tooth. It will show them that some healthy foods are good too. Also it can teach them that its good to have healthy food most of the time but a little snack is good here and there. Also it shows that exercise pays off, because in the end the bears are the only family to complete the Bear Country Marathon. I recommend this book to anyone. It's a great story and teaches a very valuable lesson. I am almost positive that you and your child will enjoy this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Well intentioned but...
While I am a firm believer in healthy eating for kids, I was disturbed that this book seems to emphasize appearance as the primary motivation for avoiding junk food. The family decides it's had enough when the children start looking "chubby." While obesity is certainly a big problem in the U.S., so is anorexia and bulimia and too much emphasis on a skinny body. Maybe I'm being overly-sensitive, but I really cringed when reading this book (which I fortunately only took out from the library) to my 4-year-old daughter. I'm glad we'll be taking this one back soon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Junk Food
To muck junk food features all of the Berenstain Bears. In it Brother, Sister, and Papa all get a little chunky. What is a mother bear to do when her husband and cubs gain to much weight? Maybe a healthy trip to the supermarket, or a visit to the doctor.

2-0 out of 5 stars STOP BASHING CANDY!!!!!!
I agree that you should eat healthy, but this makes it sound like you should never eat candy! Kids won't like that(I know I sure didn't) and it will probably make them want to eat even more sweets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for teaching children about healthy foods
The book not only stresses eating healthy foods, but why our bodies need healthy foods. Book also gives a brief description of the body's different systems, digestive, skeletel, etc. Book finishes with the importance of exercise. Book stresses this lifestyle for children as well as adults. ... Read more

¡Excelente!

Me gusta el libro. Aprendo español con me niño y este libro nos está ayudando.

I like the book. I am learning Spanish with the little boy I look after and this book is helping us. We know the story in English, and now we are learning it in Spanish. I like it better when we have two separate books - one in English and one in Spanish then when we have one book with both languages, because it then we don't "cheat" and look at the English. It also lets us have a small amount of "immersion" time when we only speak the new language - even if it's only for 5 or 10 min.

2-0 out of 5 stars What is this??
I would not recommend this book to any child. After reading it several times I still don't get it. It's like it's written in another language! The author should learn how to speak proper english before writing a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a heart warming tale that is wonderful for any age.
I think that it is wonderful to have this book in spanish. I loved the pictures and the tale was one that expressed the love of a mother for a child. Another good book, also by Margaret Wise Brown, is Goodnight Moon (Buenas Noches, Luna). Both books feature the wonderful charaters of rabbits in personified situations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
This book was great for preparing my daughter for an upcoming surgery. It went through the basics of what she would experience, even if the reason for the surgery was different, and it was done with a character she was already familiar with. The day of her surgery she was telling me what would happen next.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Ok
This shows that it's ok to be scared at the hospital. Franklin got hit in the chest at a soccer game. He ends up having to go to the hospital. He thinks that when you take a x-ray. Everyone will see how scare you are inside. Franklin didn't want everyone to know how scared he was. This a good book for any child that has to go to the hospital. I t shows you don't have to be scared. The doctors and nurses are there to help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have If Your Child Is Having an Operation
I purchased Franklin Goes to The Hospital for my 5 year old son, who was having abdominal surgery last week. He loved the book so much, that he read it every night until the surgery. It really explained all of the different procedures involved in going to the hospital - on a level that he could understand! I strongly recommend this book to any parent who is faced with having to explain surgery to a small child!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend for young children facing a hospital visit
Franklin came to our rescue by going to the hospital for an operation. My three-year-old son needed surgery and I wanted to prepare him for all the strange equipment, people, and procedures he would experience. This Franklin book actually had him excited to see the hospital. Many of the routine procedures were familiar to him after reading Franklin. His only disppointment was not seeing Dr. Bear at his hospital. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
My 4-month-old daughter LOVES Sandra Boynton books. We have ten of them and they are her favorites. She loves the simple stories and the bright, vibrant pictures. I point to the words and the pictures as we go through them & she giggles almost non-stop. She even tries to help me turn the pages. (Of course, she also has tried to eat the books, but she's only four months old.)

There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding the "ugly birds." As an education professional, I think it is important not to under-estimate the intelligence of children. Many will take the phrase at face-value and see it for what it is, a silly statement that sounds funny and "tickles" when you read it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Using "Ugly Birds" Uniquely...
My son enjoys reading this book, and it helped him learn his ABCs pretty quickly. My wife and I were worried initially about the "Ugly Birds Being Ugly" page, because we thought our son would go around poking fun at the physical appearances of others. But he didn't. Looks like we managed to teach him how to respect others. As for Sandra Boynton's book, our 5-year old smiles at the letter "U" page not because of how the birds look, but because of how the phrase sounds (onomatopoeiatically speaking, that is). When I scrunched up my face and asked him if Daddy was being ugly, he said No because I wasn't some bird drawing made by Sandra Boynton. I recommend this book not only for the entertainment value, but for the opportunity to teach children how to draw the line between fun reading, and respecting others. Afterall, I'd rather my child hears the word "ugly" from me (plus parental explanation), than from someone else in the school playground.

3-0 out of 5 stars Echoing the Ugly Problem Too
Although I've enjoyed reading her other books to my daughter, the word UGLY also bothered me. These books are perfect for reading to infants and toddlers, and I'm not too naive or overprotective to know that she won't pick up negative volcabulary (she has already), but it seems that "ugly" is not an appropriate word to teach them at such a young age. I'd prefer to have her learn more positive words, since there is plenty of time for her to learn all the words later. After discovering this page, I haven't used this book again.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves Sandra Boynton Books
This is a great book which my son loves to read. It teaches him his ABC's plus the pictures are great. We have almost all of Sandra Boynton's book collection. Highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Teach your children about "ugliness"
A to Z has a big problem in my opinion. It is a very simple children's book with some very cute illustrations of animals (A to Z). Each animal is engaged in an action that also begins with the first letter of it's name (e.g. Kangaroos Kissing). There are lots of made up animals, I'm assuming to account for the rarity of animals beginning with "Q" and "X" etc. The part that I don't like is the fictitious "Uglybirds" whose action is simply "Being Ugly". The illustration that goes along with this so-called ugliness is very disturbing. The "Uglybirds" have atypical bird features that seem intentional. They are green and purple, and have messed up feathers and big bulging eyes and are very "Different" from the "normal" birds in this and other books. Upon reading this, my wife and I agreed that we would never repeat this section while reading to our daughter. Although I do intend on teaching my daughter about ugliness (Racism, Violence, contempt, etc.). I think that it is a quality that shouldn't be used to describe physical appearance. When my daughter encounters a person who is physically unusual, I hope that I have instilled in her the values to disregard what others might find "Ugly". I know that some might think that I'm overanalyzing such an innocent entry in a child's book, I think that parents need to be more careful about the messages that they are sending about ugliness. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars More IS More
So many treasury compilations are not as good as the original stories they include. Many times when a treasury is published the illustrations are badly cropped or omitted, or scrunched onto a page with text. Sometimes the text is abridged. Fortunately for us, this is not the case in this wonderful treasury of four of the gifted Virgina Lee Burton's best loved stories. All four stories are presented in their entirety, in full sized format just like the original books. Each story can be read individually and enjoyed as if it is a separate book. Nothing has been left out or crowded together. This treasury of classics includes Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, published in 1939, The Little House, published in 1942, Katy and the Big Snow, published in 1943, and Maybelle the Cable Car, published in 1952. All of Burton's beloved books have charming, colorful illustrations and storylines that honor a simple way of life. They celebrate characters who adapt to changes with determination and a positive attitude without being preachy. They are fun-filled and interesting to children.
The book also contains a short but enlightening biography of Virgina Lee Burton.
This is definitely a five star book and deserves to be a part of every child's storytime. Don't miss it! ... Read more

Feeling hungry? How about some Snozzcumbers for a snack, or a Fresh Mudburger for dinner? Or perhaps you're in the mood for Stink Bugs' Eggs. Fans of Roald Dahl will recognize his peculiar culinary inventions from his many books--now, these dubious delights are collected all together in Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes, a compendium of dishes that sound worse than they really are. Stink Bug Eggs, for example, are really deviled eggs with some food coloring and a special, added ingredient (parmesan cheese or asafetida) to make them particularly aromatic. Mr. Twit's Beard Food consists of mashed potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, mushrooms, and cocktail franks cunningly arranged. Each recipe is simple to make, many are delightfully disgusting to contemplate, but all are easy on the palate. Roald Dahl himself would have been delighted to eat these ravishingly revolting recipes. ... Read more

I was fortunate to hear the author speak in the early 90s in my hometown of Syracuse, NY. He is an engaging storyteller. It was then that I discovered his book. Who needs words to tell a story? In Raymond Briggs's charming tale, told with 175 softly hued, artfully composed frames, a little boy makes friends with a snowman. He wakes up on a snowy day, tells his mother he's going outside, then begins a flurry of snowman-building. That night, he can't sleep, so he opens the front door and lo! the snowman has come to life. The amiable yet frosty fellow enjoys his tour of the boy's cozy home; he admires the cat, but is disturbed by the fire. The boy shows him other wonders--the TV and a lamp and running water. Predictably perhaps, he is disturbed by the stove, but likes ice cubes quite a bit. Soon it is the snowman's turn to introduce the boy to his wintry world. They join hands, rise up into the blizzardy air--presumably over Russia and into the Middle East--and then safely back to home sweet home. The boy pops into bed before his parents get up... but when he wakes up the next morning he races outside only to find his new buddy's melted remains, scattered with a few forlorn lumps of coal. Since the book is wordless, you can make up any ending you want... like "Then, in a puff of pink smoke, the snowman recomposed himself and went to live in the boy's garage freezer." Or you could just resign yourself to a peaceful "And that was that." Raymond Briggs's The Snowman won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and this wintertime classic continues to win the hearts of kids every year. (Preschool and older) --Karin Snelson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Snowman
A children's classic, a must for every book shelf. The wordless format lets the children create their own story. We purchased the book for our then three year old, at eighteen he still reads and loves the book. This year I am purchasing another copy for our thirteen year old who also loves the gentle illustrations and the heart warming message. This book truly illustrates that words are not necessary for a book to be a literary great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvellous, touch everyone's heart !
The greatest children book I ever read, drawing is beautiful and the story is so touching. It touches every one's deep deep heart and wish can fly with the Snowman in the sky. Highly recommend as a gift at Christmas time for children and even adult.

Don't miss it. Just like no one miss 'The Little Prince'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Special
A gentle book that has no words. The story is in the pictures. For my three year old son who so desperately wants to read, he had no problem 'reading' this story. He was able to tell a story, look at the pictures and pick out different details and tell a different story. The pictures are gentle and kind and show a special relationship with imagination, dreams, wishes, children and the fine line between reality and imagination that children can walk with ease.

Enjoy.

This is a wordless book about a little boy that makes a snowman. He can't sleep at night so he gets up and opens the door to look at my snowman and he is alive. They go through an exciting night of adventures. He shows him around his house. ... This is a great book even though it doesn't have words. It allows the reader to make up there own interpretation of the pictures and much imagination can be put into trying to read this book. This has great pictures and they are very clear so it can lead to easy interpretation too. This is a great book and I would recommend that everyone reads it. This is a book that I want to have in my classroom collection.

Book Description

Known as a central figure in English literature, Hilaire Belloc produced a number of stunning, funny, and clever admonishments for children. The tales in this volume, illustrated by the inimitable Edward Gorey, contain instructive lessons for almost everyone.
For those children prone to wandering off from their caretakers, there is the story of a certain young Jim, "who ran away from his nurse and was eaten by a lion." Those known to stretch the truth will hardly be comforted by the tale of Matilda, "who told lies and was burned to death." And as for those of us--and our children--who tend to the vainglorious, there is the sobering tale of Godolphin Horne, "who was cursed with the sin of pride and became a boot-black."
Witty, brilliant, and strikingly irreverent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific and disturbingly real...
There's a sense of time gone by, a lot of these deaths were real for kids and the author's intentions are interesting to ponder. He was/is a great artist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Non Better a Belloc: Cautionary Tales for Children reviewed
Edward Gorey's first major posthumous publication is like a newly forged work, with freshness and originality. Published several times since 1907, Harcourt's reprint of "Cautionary Tales for Children" contains sixty-one new illustrations enfolding the 95-year old verse, and the result is very satisfying.

Gorey created these illustrations several years ago, but for some reason, chose not publish them while he was alive. Gorey's Victorian style is a delightful fit for Belloc's verse. In fact, those already familiar with Belloc's Cautionary Tales or Cautionary Verses series may very well conclude that they were strong influences for Gorey's "The Beastly Baby", "The Gashlycrumb Tines", "The Epipleptic Bicycle" and others. Certainly, many of the verses in Cautionary Tales feel like they could have been written by Gorey: "Jim, Who ran away from his Nurse, and was eaten by a Lion", "Henry King, Who chewed on bits of String, and was early cut off in Dreadful Agonies", "Matilda, Who told Lies, and was Burned to Death", and so on. Unlike the original cartoonish illustrations by Blackwood, Gorey's illustrations simply set the stage - the big moment is then played out in the imagination. It is Edward Gorey's delightful magic, at work.

5-0 out of 5 stars I grew up with the Berenstain Bears, and now my sons are
I never realized when I was little that the Berenstain Bear books were teaching me lessons (although I do remember reading the messt room one and the bad dream one quite often). We went to visit my husband's famil and his MUCH younger sister (7) was reading her Berenstain Bear books. This made me nostlagic for when I used to read them, so I bought some for my son the next time we went to the bookstore. However he was six months old and too young to really need to learn any of the many lessons available. This one however and The Berenstain Bears Count Their Blessings seemed to me to be timeless lessons that can be learned from a very young age, since I believe in these princilpes strongly. He loves them and I have realized how much we ALL can learn from the Berenstain Bears, if nothing else a good way as parents to handle situations. Since then, we have bought him the holiday books for the coresponding holiday, books for birthdays and Christmas, and books to help him deal with a baby brother. He loves books, and always thinks it's a treat to read his Berenstain Bears books!

4-0 out of 5 stars Berenstains on target with this book
We are all familiar with the Berenstain Bears, their many adventures, and the lessons they have taught young readers for over 30 years. However, The Berenstain Bears Think of Those in Need is more timely than ever and one of the best books to be written by Stan and Jan in recent years. It seems that society is more materialistic than ever, and people especially in the United States have more "stuff" than they know what to do with. Perhaps the most spoiled are our children, surrounded with toys, games, computers, clothes, and more than they could ever need throughout a lifetime. This book gives children (and their parents!) a wonderful example by making the point that even though things are good for many of us, not everybody is as well off. It seems that the Berenstain Bears have taught almost every imaginable lesson regarding good behavior at home, but now we are seeing a wonderful example of social conscience/responsibility. Especially in Bear Country it may be hard to imagine anything bad ever happening, but the Bear Family reminds us that there are always people to help, and the things we don't need can always be used by others. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Overall pretty good
Of course, any Clifford fan will be happy with this book, especially those toddlers. The story is nice, the translation into Spanish is good, and if you want your toddler to learn Spanish, this is a good little book to have in your library. However, I didn't like the illustrations. The cover depicts Clifford as we are used to seeing him, but the illustrations inside are of poorer quality, and seem to be early editions of what the characters look like now. Anyway, the toddler may not even notice, but I did.

Everyone knows that a picture tells a thousand words. But what about the elements that make up a picture? Using the tale of Little Red Riding Hood as an example, Molly Bang uses boldly graphic artwork to explain how images--and their individual components--work to tell a story that engages the emotions: Why are diagonals dramatic? Why are curves calming? Why does red feel hot and blue feel cold?

5-0 out of 5 stars Picture This: How Pictures Work
I love this book and using it for teaching basic design ideas...a fellow teacher uses it in Psychology! The simple story of Little Red Riding Hood serves as the basis for discussion how line, color, shape, etc. work in art. Such a great idea...wish there were others of this type. I will be using it to teach the elements of art in Art History this fall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photos tell more than thousand words-here is the answer why!
Using the story of Little Red Riding Hood this book is focusing on the basic principles of composing images.

Reduced to the maximum and using simple colors and arrangements of basic elements like circles or triangles, the drawings as well as the short, precise text within this book are pointing out, how simple and complex arrangements within pictures work, transfer obvious (and hidden) messages, how philosophy and psychology witin pictures works. Therefor its a book telling the story why pictures may lie, may influence, may manipulate an observer even though obviously just showing "reality".

Whether you are taking photographs, drawing or designing - this book is a absolute must! A photo/image tells more than thousand words - here you will find the answer how and why. Great to read and watch, easy and fast to understand - even though dealing with a most complex matter.

Finally a personal statement and hint for an esthetes: if you like to possess a book with an outer shape and appearance that promises, what the contents keeps, than you have to buy the nice hard cover version instead of the cheaper soft cover version - it will pay off for sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reading level for 9-12???
This book is for anyone interested in the visual arts.

Using the story of Little Red Riding Hood, Molly Bang explores visual communication by playing with simple geometric shapes and discussing their effect. For example, Molly creates Red as a small triangle but experiments with Red as a square, circle, or amorphous shape.

Later, Molly creates the wolf as as a longer, sleeker triangle with sharper angles that create a sense of danger. She turns the angles into curves to see the impact of angles. She changes the color of the wolf from black to muave. She adds different shapes and colors of eyes; and teeth.

In other words, she constantly experiments - and shows you the experiments - of different composition values and the mood they create. At the end, she summarizes what she learned as rules for composition.

Whether you draw, paint, or take pictures, this book will help you with composition. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, entertaining, and teaches you a lesson.
The author "Roald Dahl" added lots of details in this story so that I felt like I was in the story. For example the author wrote using the five senses. "The Gregg family felt the wind blowing." This book is not true, but this book does teach a lesson. It teaches not to shoot at any animals or other creatures, because shooting an animal is the same as shooting a person. Humans are animals too. You will learn lessons from the bad things that you do. I like this story book. What I like about this story book is that a little girl gets to turn people into animals and animals to be just like people. I didn't like it when the sixteen ducks got shot and died. Only four ducks were still alive. Can you belive only four ducks out of twenty ducks lived? I don't think that kids under five years old should read this book because there are animals that are dying. Thinking of animals, sometimes I ask myself why do birds eat worms? I think they would taste bad by the looks of them. I would want to tell you more of this story, but I won't so that you can read it and enjoy it for yourself and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy Happening in The Magic Finger
How would you like it, if you woke up and had wings? That's what happened to the Gregg family, when a girl with the magic finger got mad at them. This girl gets very angry at people and the magic in her finger happens to change their lives in funny ways. This is a great book for kids, because the magic that her finger makes creates some shocking situations. Read The Magic Finger, by Roald Dahl, because it is funny, surprising, and you'll never want to put it down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Master Storyteller!
Roald Dahl knows how children think. He knows that children's fantasies are often playfully violent, and he taps into those fantasies to create this other world where anything can happen and usually does. Kids love his books, and this is a great place to jump into his weird world. Your kids will love it. Before long they'll be reading it to themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars A totally cool window cleaning company!!!
It's about a very special window cleaning company who doesn't use ladders. The girrafe is the ladder ,the pelly is the bucket, and the monkey cleans the windows. It's a very funny book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a Great Book!
The Giraffe, the Pelly, and Me is a great book because it's funny and exciting. Especially since there are animals in it. I read it in two days because it's an eye-sticking book. (meaning you can't keep your eyes off it) It starts off dull, but it keeps getting more exciting as the book goes on. By the time you're done, you will be glad you read it. The story starts off as a boy wanting to go inside an old FOR SALE candy store and always dreams of buying it. To find out if he ever gets inside it, you have to read the book. I also recommened reading it at school. I'm sure you'll love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pure Delight!
I have been a Ronald Dahl fan since I was a kid. As a child, I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and its sequel. I recently discovered The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me.

It is pure delight! The characters, and plot are fun and unexpected. It is full of humor and surprises. Good and silly to the very last page. My children loved it.

As a mom, I love that Ronald Dahl does not 'talk down' to children in his books. The vocabulary is rich and flows beautifully.

Fun for any age, I recommend it especially for a family read aloud.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Book is Great
The book" The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me" was an exciting one. In my opinion it was funny and it had a lot of things going on in it.
The story is about a young boy who wants to own an old grubber shop, which is another word for candy store. The grubber shop was sold to The Ladderless Window Cleaning Company, which are a giraffe, a pelican, and a monkey. The boy made friends with The Ladderless Window cleaning Company group and was invited to join the compnay as their business manager. The company gets a job washing the Duke's palace windows. While cleaning the windows they see a robber with a pistol on the third floor. They stop him from stealing some jewels and had him arrested. The Duke gave each of them a rich reward of the one thing each had always wanted.
I would recommend this book to other fourth graders and younger readers too' because it makes you feel nice. The author gives good details and has a magical feel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not typical Dahl, but that's not a bad thing
Bizarrely, for a Dahl story, there are no grisly deaths, no giant bugs and no magic. A giraffe, a pelican and a monkey open a ladderless window cleaning company, and eventually a young boy gets to open his own candy store. A great big oversized book (mine is, the new one's not), full of terrific drawings and much fun. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books of all time
I read this book when a child, and still remember it at age 25. Now, it didn't turn me into a neat person, but with fond memories of this book in my heart, I plan on having a clean room ... one of these days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cleaning is fun?
After my son and I read this book, he stopped me right before the last lane and said to me "Cleaning your room is supposed to be fun?" I sat there for a moment pondering on how i could reply in a way that i wouldn't be lying. "It depends on if you make it fun." I replied. Before hearing the last line, he stood up and ran to his room. He grabbed a hockey stick and started shooting his toys under the bed. He said "Cleaning can be fun."

2-0 out of 5 stars Messy Room
The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room is about Bother and Sister Bear who never clean their room. One day, Momma bear had enough and made the cubs change their way. After talking, they decide to do something about it. This book teaches children about responsibility. This book is good for children from 4-11. I thought it was a pretty good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The berenstain Bears and the messy room
The Berenstain Bears and the Messy room by Stan berenstain is an exciting and hilarious book. My favorite part of this book is when brother bear fell down with the mess in his room. This book is an exciting and hilarious book. Ihope you read this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars What I Think...
Iggie's House is about a girl named Winnie Barringer and
her best friend Iggie who has moved away. When Winnie finds out that the new family next door is black, Winnie gets really exicted, but not everybody is happy. Mrs.Landon (or Germs Inc.) is putting out a petition to send the Garbers away just because they're black. So when the going gets tough, Winnie tries to do something about it.
What I think about this book is that it can teach you about how hard minorities have it sometimes. It's a wonderful book and teaches you not to judge a person by how they look. I recommend that if you want to read this book you should not be predjudiced and if you are it would teach you a lesson. I loved it and it's a great book to read again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A COOL BOOK
Iggie's House is one of my most favorite Judy Blume books. This book is about a girl named Winnie that becomes friends with the Garber children , Tina, Glenn, and Herbie, who live in Winnie's old friends house named Iggie. There's only one problem. Mrs. Landon (a.k.a. Mrs. Germs) doesn't want the Garbers to live in the neighborhood because they are black. Some parts that I really disliked was when Mrs. Germs put a mean sign in the Garbers front yard. Another part I really disliked was when Winnie slaps Herbie in the face. See if their problems are solved. I hope you will enjoy this book!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Different colors go great together!
This is a story about a girl named Winnie that soon finds out you cannot judge a book by its cover. Her bestfriend moved to Japan and the new people that moved in were black. Being the first black family in the neighborhood, it made many people very upset. Mrs. Landan was a neighbor that was so upset she wanted to get a petition signed to make them move away. After a short time the new kids,Glenn, Herbie, and Tina, became friends with Winnie. When this happened, Winnie decided to help get them to stay and for people to be nice to them. At the end of the story the new family ended up staying and the mean Mrs. Landan moved away. It was perfect.

I loved the story because it was easy to read and interesting. I can't imagine not liking someone because they were a different color then me. I liked Winnie because she figured this out before anyone. I am glad it is not like that where I live. I recommend it to kids 9 and up only and I think adults should read it too if they are like Mrs. Landan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Iggies House
Iggies House diserves 4 stars because it is a wonderful book and easy to read. It only takes about 3-4 days if you read a good 1/2 half hour. You should read this book because it's a great story with good meaning to it. The book is worth an easy 4-6 points. You should read this book!

Jessica McCain

5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile
"Iggie's House" is about an 11-year-old girl, Winnie Barringer, who befriends her new neighbors (the Garbers, who have two sons--Glenn and Herbie--and a daughter--Tina) when her best friend (Iggie) moves out of the house they move into. While Winnie doesn't have a problem with the Garbers being black, several of her neighbors do since the area had always been occupied by white residents. So out of loyalty to her new friends, Winnie sets out to crusade against the racism in her neighborhood.

Although "Iggie's House" isn't my favorite Judy Blume book (though I doubt I'll ever give her less than 5 stars on any book), she's great at tackling social problems, such as racism in this book, showing how children typically see things in just black and white, so to speak. Though prejudices aren't as easily overcome as shown here, "Iggie's House" is still a great learning tool for preteens. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for toddlers
My daughter, now 23 months, has loved this book since she was 14 months old. This book has made her even more fascinated with airplanes. When she sees an airplane she always points it out and asks to go on an airplane. She asks for us to read this book daily (my husband and I have it memorized). The illustrations are wonderfully bright in color. The text is simple but written well for young children to understand the pictures. This is one book I don't mind reading everyday!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun...
I have a two year old son, and he loves this book. The pictures are great, the descriptions are easy for him to understand, and are short enough to hold his attention. All of Byron Barton's books are great, but this one is his fave rave!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for airport and airplane fans
This time around Barton tackles a day in the life of a passenger plane traveler. We start out with passengers arriving at the airport and go through all the various activities that take place through take off. What happens to the luggage, getting the plane ready for take off, etc. are covered. A cross-section of a jet plane shows the various parts including toilet (which children think is hilarious) and also shows staff working to clean the plane before the passengers board.

This would be a great book to read to a child who is preparing to travel by airplane. It would be great preparation to understand all that goes into preparing the plane, what is happening as the people are waiting to board, etc. It would also be a great book to take on the flight as entertainment, especially since it is a thin paperback and lightweight.

Lots of people are in the airport and are of all ages and races.

Barton also has a board book about planes which depicts different kinds of airplanes, titled "Planes". "Airport" focuses just on jet passenger airplanes and the airport itself. If you enjoy this book I recommend Barton's other books as well.

My baby loves this book, he must love the illustrations. My four year old loves the book for the content. We are frequent airplane travelers and we have made air travel an adventure, always discussing all that goes on and intentionally making it a real fun experience. It has been successful so far because we don't experience air travel stress with either of our children. Both look at a trip to the airport as an adventure in and of itself. This book gives us more opportunities to discuss flying when we are at home, in between trips.

This is the only children's book I have ever seen that discusses airports and what goes on there.

Great, a must have!

4-0 out of 5 stars a gentle introduction to the airport for young children
This book is a good introduction to the sequence of events a child can expect to see when they take an airplane flight. The storyline, such as it is, unobtrusively follows a young boy and his family through the process -- arriving at the airport in a bus, standing in the ticket line, sitting in the waiting area, boarding the plane and finding your seat, and getting buckled in. There are also picture showing the crew preparing the airplane, the control tower okaying the plane for takeoff, the pilot and crew in the cockpit, and the jet taking off. There is a very nice cross-section showing the jet's fuselage, cargo hold, etc. Each picture is a brightly colored two-page spread, and my two-year old enjoys this book.

My quibbles are small. It would have been nice to see some more children in the pictures; and in one scene we see the little boy buckling up in a window seat on the lefthand side of the plane, but on takeoff we see him look ing out a window on the righthand side. A small enough mistake, but what if a child notices this and begins to worry that airplanes do not obey the laws of physics or logic? Will you be prepared to advance explanations that will not confuse?

Seriously, it's a nice book that should inform small children, and even help them when they first experience an airport.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite book
My 2 1/2 year old son loved this book so much when we checked it out at the library, that I had to buy him his own copy. The text is simple and easy for him to understand and the pictures are bright and simple, yet complete and accurate in their representation of a real airport experience. He has fun going through the book over and over again looking for new things, asking me what they are: the security checkpoint, the fuel truck, the jetbridge, the overhead luggage bins, the rolling stairs, the mechanics checking the airplane's engines. He has logged several hours of airtime traveling with our family, but is still fascinated with the airport every time he picks up this book. ... Read more
