5-0 out of 5 stars More From The World's Most Adorable Puppy!
I spend my days with my son watching Nick Jr. When they started showing the Kipper series, I was estatic! So was my son!

So, of course, when I see Kipper books in the store, I buy them if I have the money. So far, there hasn't been a Kipper book that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. But honestly, if my son loves it, then so do I.

It's hard to believe that something so cute can teach a toddler so much. Kipper is the type of character that can get us Americans thinking, mainly because much of the 'lil guy's dialect is so much different than ours. ... Read more

This is a cute book for any child who likes Kipper. It is a very simply written book which doesn't take long to read and doesn't have any real philosophical content. The illustrations are colorful and cute. It would be a good book for in the car or waiting room.

5-0 out of 5 stars Of mice and mayhem...
When Kipper notices that something or someone has nibbled a hole in his toybox, he worries that some of his toys may be missing. But when he does a tally of noses (the toys are all animals), instead of too few, there are too many...And when the snakelike "sock thing" starts wriggling away, Kipper doesn't know what to do -- none of his toys has ever come to life before!Kipper eventually discovers that the culprits are a couple of mice and he kindly invites them to nest in his comfy basket. The last page of the story is a particular treat -- a delightful picture of mayhem, with baby mice running riot through Kipper's toybox and basket (with the sweetly resigned expression on Kipper's face worth a thousand words)!

The simple lively text and charming pictures ensure that even the youngest of audiences remain captive throughout and the book is a real pleasure for toddlers and adults alike. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Visit the Alhambra and read this book.
My visit to the Alhambra in the summer of 2002 wouldn't have been the same, not even close, if I hadn't peeped into the curiosity shop in the Alhambra complex. The book was everywhere. The stories are short and the the book itself delivers a romantic, or rather misterious fragrance into the atmosphere. It was a good choice. I kept reading it during the next days of my trip through the south of Spain. And it helped me visualize more clearly a living Alhambra, with real people walking in and out, doing their chores, all the kinds of people that ever walked into this artistic wonder of the world.

I am thankful to this nicely written book because it helped me appreciate much better the beauty and history of the Alhambra. If you walk by architectural monuments and you can't say much more than -it's nice- or -wow- you need a book like this one, something that help you appreciate it, if not teach you about architecture or art in general. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A 5 Star plus book
We, my students and I, love this book. It is a main take-out in our school library. I teach 3rd grade and I love to introduce my students to the arts. I find that Rachel Isadora's books often deal with artistic themes and I love all of them. I especially like this book because of the illustrations and the history that she writes about. I thank you for this super addition to our collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Play On
This is a most wonderful book. I am a music teacher and just went online to order a 10 for my students. I love this book and find it very helpful when teaching about classical music, especially to young children. I hope Ms. Isadora is planning on creating more books about composers and music in general.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Pictures are the Thing!
YOUNG MOZART by Rachel Isadora is an acceptable way to introduce young children to the child prodigy Mozart. The very basic facts of his life story are outlined clearly and precisely. There are a few interesting anecdotes to liven the text: his father's nightly duets with the very young Mozart, Mozart's introduction to Marie Antoinette, his own children's pet starling, and his friends gathering around his death bed to sing the unfinished requiem. But Mozart's life seems quite conventional and tranquil, which is far from the story we know to be true. The pictures in the book, however, are charming and beautiful. It was the illustrations, in fact, that turned my own seven year old son from an audience who insisted he was not going to pay any attention if we didn't read a book about animals into a little boy who wanted to know why Mozart could write music before he could write sentences, why he had to wear a wig, and why he died when he was so young. The basic facts are there, and combined with the pictures make the book more memorable for children. ... On Abena and Kofi's first night in America, it is late and it is dark and they are up worrying. What if a giant lizard or a slender-snouted crocodile crawled into their suitcases? What if the people in their new school laugh at them? What if they forget Grandmother and their cousins, now that they are an ocean away?

But Abena knows a secret to help them. It is a secret that can make the world and the night seem small again. She reaches for her new flashlight and turns it on. She says to her little brother, Kofi, "Pretend this is the moon. Close your eyes." And then she begins ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb look at the life of a child ballet dancer
My daughter is entranced with ballerinas, and since her name is Lillian, someone gave her "Lili On Stage" for Christmas one year. It's perfect for any little girl (or boy, as boys are shown herein as well) who dreams of becoming a dancer.

Rachel Isadora, the author and illustrator, is a former ballerina herself and she graciously lets us into this magical world. Lili and her friends are shown getting ready to go onstage to perform in "The Nutcracker"--we see them stretching, getting into costumes and make-up, waiting with baited breath for their cues, and so on. What I like best about the book is that Isadora shows us the pixie dust and the magic along with all the incredible hard work that goes into not only being a ballerina, but putting on a ballet for the public. The teacher, costume mistress, stage manager, and prima ballerina are all shown doing their disparate jobs. We see that creating this dream of a ballet takes the commitment and cooperation of a great many people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!
This book is great! I bought it for my younger sister, and when I read it, I just didn't want to give it up. It depicts backstage life beautifully, and I would recommend this for anyone under 11.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ballet fiction with the ring of truth
In our instant-gratification culture, ballet provides children a wonderful opportunity to learn about focusing on a long-term goal and taking pride in accomplishing each small step along the way. Rachel Isadora's Lili books ring true because Lili is not a child phenomenon, she's a young dancer who understands the slow disciplines of ballet. In Lili on Stage, she's performing in the Nutcracker. But she isn't the star, she's one of a group of children dancing in the party scene. It's obvious she loves her role, and recognizes what an accomplishment it is to dance in a performance. This book combines beautiful illustrations with a real understanding of the world of ballet. I'd recommend this and the other Lili books to any small dancer. (My dancing daughter is 13 and on pointe, and she still keeps Lili on her bookshelf.) ... Read more

We have done pictures in the various styles displayed in the book and have had the greatest time. In this bold book, author/illustrator Rachel Isadora pays homage to the vibrantly colored pop art made famous by Roy Lichtenstein. Listen to the City is a jazzy, cartoon-style celebration of the sounds of a city. Helicopters fly overhead: "Whoop Whoop Whoop." Dogs pant: "Heh Heh Heh Heh." Cars and trucks crowd the streets: "Honk Honk, Jeeep Jeeep." Pigeons in the park coo, balloons pop, mustard squirts onto a hot dog. City and country dwellers alike will love to mimic the noisy expressions of a metropolis in motion. Isadora splashes bold, bright swathes across every page, in decisive strokes of color and heavy black outlines. Readers who enjoyed her earlier pop art title, ABC Pop!, will be thrilled to see a return of this style, while fans of Isadora's quieter techniques, as seen in her Caldecott Honor Book Ben's Trumpet and Isadora Dances, will be amazed by her versatility. Book Description

A breathtakingly illustrated biography of the first modern dancer. When Isadora Duncan was a young child, her mother brought her for ballet lessons. Isadora thought standing on her toes was ugly. I dreamed of a different dance she said. Soon Isadora's mother found her teaching half a dozen babies to wave their arms in the air. By the time of her death, Isadora had a following of personally trained students and was revered as a performer throughout the Western world. Caldecott Honor-winner Rachel Isadora's expressive illustrations are the perfect complement for the life of an artist who was a true original, and her text makes accessible to young readers the work of a woman who forever changed the course of dance.A handsome introduction.--Booklist for Young Mozart ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book.
Isadora Duncan is credited with being the mother of modern dance. When Isadora was young, her mother bought her her first ballet lessons. However, Isadora thought that dancing on her toes was ugly. "I dreamed of a different dance," she said. Isadora soon began teaching dance to neighborhood children. That was the beginning of her new style of dance. Isadora went on to found a dance school and company and become one of the most famous modern dancers in the world. The watercolored illustrations in this book depict nicely Isadora's free flowing style. However, the somewhat bland text does little justice to her highly innovative dance. Overall this book does a good job of showing that in order to be a good dancer you don't have to conform, but can dance from the heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Dancer
I am a dancer and dance with a company that follows the teachings of Isadora Duncan. I and my fellow dancers are always thrilled when a book about this great legend comes out- and we are especially happy when it is such a beautiful and accurate one. It is a book that children as well as adults can enjoy, because the illustrations are wonderful and the events are historical. I just wonder, if Rachel Isadora was named after Isadora Duncan- I highly recommend this stunning book! ... Read more
