5-0 out of 5 stars Intense and Terrifying
This was an extremely tense and fast-paced book. After a horrific failed battle in which Jake makes the call to leave two Animorphs behind, Jake wakes up the next morning and finds everything changed. He's suddenly "at least ten years older" in an UNfamiliar world. This book is similar to the alternate, possible reality books of #7 "The Stranger," the beginning of Megamorphs #3, and Megamorphs #4. Jake finds himself in New York City with everything changed-everyone is a Controller, including Andalites. It has the nightmarish aspects of 1984 as well as provoking humor of human society becoming merged with Yeerk society (the bits about pills and clinics and the advertising boards, for example).

I'd say this is an especially dark book, almost a warning of the future. Jake sees his worst fears played out: he was responsible for everyone getting caught since Tom finally figured it out. He finds out that he's responsible for Rachel's death and for turning Cassie, Marco, and Ax into Controllers. The confusing aspects of this book is when he has hallucinations that we don't know are real or not. He sees the walking corpses of the enemies he's killed and is shocked that Cassie is a jaded terrorist, accepting violence. There are few light-hearted moments in this book as Jake is purposely forced to run through the gauntlet for some mysterious end or experiment by a different, perhaps even higher power than the Ellimist or Crayak. It's a terrifying book and one almost wishes for the end since it is quite painful at times. At the end of this book, readers can only hope that Jake can learn from his futuristic experiences.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Familiar
The people that gave bad reviews on #41 are evil ! Well, okay, that's opinion. But anyway, I absolutely loved The Familiar. The way KA Applegate can create a futuristic Animorphs is amazing. I thought that The Familiar is one of the best books in the series, because it has so much glory in it. The auther fashioned this book to be not JUST #41. She fashined it to be a great , never to be forgotten book. True, the ending is a completely unexpected one -- but doesn't that make it all the

more exciting? The Familiar is one of the best books in a long time since August. Now that's worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read the other reviews before reading this one, it'll help!
Although Animorphs are considered appropriate for ages 9-12, older children can certainly appreciate them.I'm 14 and have been reading Animorphs for about 4 years, and have noticed that it's difficult to comprehend some of the books if you're younger than 12.Judging by the previous reviews, this book is definitely one ofthem. The purpose of this review is to fill in some areas left void by the other reviewers, so read them prior to my review.First of all, the point of the book is to express a simple universal concept: love. The Animorphs have been forced to make difficult choices, but they continue to have a sense of morality. They realize that they cannot become totally ruthless. They need values and principles, or the world is not worth saving.Don't take this statement entirely literally, just be patient and you'll figure it out.The ending is easy to understand if you read the story carefully.Jake discovers the extent of his love for Cassie. An exciting new development is a being like the Ellimist, but different.I believe this book uses an idea similar to what was used in #7 "The Stranger", so read that too.It will also make the ending clearer when you read this book (And you should definitely read it! ).Be sure to read Megamorphs #4, because it relates to the book when Jake tells of his most terrifying dream, and at other points in the story. The new "being" in #41 could be interconnected with what is foreshadowed about Cassie during Megamorphs #4... that will make possible an interesting future plot.Anyway, this was one of my all-time favorite Animorph books, along with #s 4, 7, 19, 26, all the Tobias books, Megamorphs 3 and 4, and Visser (During which KAA implies that Marco is now either 12 or 15 years old, depending on what she means by "adolescence."Don't pay attention to the numerous hints about their age, they never add up.)But this is DEFINITELY a must-read, one of the best in the series.Don't miss it!

4-0 out of 5 stars An exciting but confuseing book

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is excellent!
This is a totally great book. It has Rachel morphing squid on the cover. Erek the chee's hologram is exposed to the world. Can the animorphs figure out why and do something before it's too late? Also recommended: The Experiment(28), The Sickness(29), The Reunion(30), Megamorphs:Elfangor's Secret(#3), and Alternamorphs:The First Journey

5-0 out of 5 stars The Chee are in trouble!
This Animorph book, with Rachel on front morphing a squid, is sure to be an underwater adventure. In their latest mission, the Animorphs find out that Erek the Chee's human hologram won't work anymore. So it's up to the Animorphs to save the day, before the Chee are exposed by the Yeerks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
In this book the Chee need the Animorphs help. They have to go to the Pelmite ship and fix the computers. It is urgent. Read the book to find out what happens next.

5-0 out of 5 stars You have got to read it!
I have read Animorphs for 9 months and have all the books except the Andalite Chronicles which I have now ordered. But I think number 27 is the best because the Animorphs get piled with things to do. I really thought that they were never get all there problems solved. It had a great punch line and it was an entertaning book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good animorphs book.
I didn't like this one at all. Rachel is acting really weird in this book. Being part of the Animorphs is like a drug for her. If the Yeerks leave Earth Rachel will want to keep fighting. Who knows what might happen? The only good part in the Permilite ship. The Permilites are soo polite and it's really funny. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I got this book!!!!!
I got it I got it I got it!! It is SO GOOD. The plot starts out kind of cheesy, but it gets really funny fast!! You guys won't believe what the Animorphs find! I was laughing so hard when I read it and everyone was staring at me, but that was okay. Do you want to hear what they find? Sorry, I'm not going to go and spoil the ending. If you watch X-Files, you'll REALLY like this book. Marco tells a security guy that his name is Fox Mulder, and Rachel calls herself Dana Scully. You don't even want to know what Cassie comes up with for herself. Well, gotta go! See-ya-bye! Juliana

5-0 out of 5 stars The funniest book.
I think this is one of the funniest Animorphs book I have read. I think it's funny that the top-secret thing that the guards in Zone 91are guarding is a toilet. And when Cassie, Marco, and Rachel gave their fake names. It's dumb that Captain Torrelli couldn't figure that Cindy Crawford, Fox Mulder, and Dana Scully were just names that the three kids made up so they wouldn't get in trouble. I liked when Cassie said her phone number was 12345678 and Rachel gave the Pizza Hut delivery phone number. Right now I'm reading " The Warning." It's pretty cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!
Oh yeah!! This is the best Animorphs book ever. Not only is my favorite character Cassie in it, but they morph horses. I love horses! They rock my world! Anyway, a great complicated plot with good details. The pictures form in your head very well. A absolute MUST HAVE for all Animorphs fans!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
This book starts with Rachel and Cassie going with Cassie's dad to get an injured horse in the Drylands. They see the horse making a call at a payphone and Rachel and Cassie see a Yeerk crawling out of the horse's ear. The person who owns a store nearby that called for Cassie's dad, who calls herself Crazy Helen. She says the gov't has captured aliens at Zone 91. Marco, Cassie, and Rachael pay a visit to Zone 91, and are captured by security. Cassie says her name is Cindy Crawford, Rachael says she's Dana Scully, and Marco says his name is Fox Mudler. They escape in roach morph and all the animorphs go to the racetrack to aquire horse morphs. Then they go back to Zone 91, and they follow the horse-Controllers into the hanger where they see somthing an alien made. Read the book to find out the ending. TWO THUMBS UP!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Unknown
There's a new rumor in town. Someone has discovered an item that proves life on other planets exists. And they've been hiding it on a base called Zone 91--the most secret place on earth. Cassie, the other Animorphs, and Ax already know about life on other planets. They realize that the Yeerks will try to access Zone 91 to find out if what's there will threaten their mission. So the Animorphs decide to pay Zone 91 and the Yeerks a little visit. But what they discover is not at all what they expect. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars :::::sigh::::::: It wasn't THAT bad...
Ok, i admit it. Even though I am the biggest Animorph fan, and K.A. is the best author in the world, but this book went nowhere fast. K.A., you can do better than this. It was short and didn't give you enough options. R.L. Stein wrties better Choose Your Owen Adventures than this, and he can't even write anywhere near as good as K.A. Now, K.A. has written many good books before this, and she has written many excellent books after. So all you hard-core Animorph fans out there, let's just put this one on our shelves so we can have the whole collection and forget about it. All in all, kind of disappointing, but doesn't ruien K.A.'s other fine work. Animorphs rule!

What if one night you were out riding your bike, when you see this UFO fly across the sky and land????you would totally freak, but then you go closer, and you see Rachel,Jake,Cassie,Marco, and Tobias standing there too,and your all just staring at it.Then the door opens, and out walks this Alien that looks like a cross between a deer,a person, and a scorpian. He says his name is Elafangor,he's and Andalite and he's come for a reason:Earth is under attack,by a speices of parasitic aliens called Yeerks. You think,What?????I think we would have heard about that by now....Then to answer that the Andalite explains about the Yeerk invasion....He explains that the yeerks are basically slugs, when they don't have a host...To infest someone they crawl through the ear and flatten themselves around the brain, then they have total control of the person...then he tells of the battle between the Andalites and the yeerk, thats what made him land,he was injured, and he's about to die,but then he has an Idea how he can help the humans,he says he can give you the power to morph into any animal you can touch, but it's up to YOU will YOU except the power?

3-0 out of 5 stars The First Journey
Imagine a story about alien slugs trying to infest the earth. You are all that can stop them. Your only weapon is bing able to turn into any animal you touch and you have to stop them.they crawl in your head and take over your body. This book is called the first journey. The author is K.A. Applegate.

In this book there are slugs called yeerks that crawl in your head spread them selves out and control your brain. You are part of the book. You get to choose what animal you are.

I like this book because you are part of the book. You get to make the decisions. you get into alot of trouble and you have to choose the right morph

1-0 out of 5 stars don't bother
Let me clear up one thing: KA didn't write either of the Alternamorphs. She did the least she could possibly do and still get her name on the cover. It could have been much better, but what makes Alternamorphs even worse is that it isn't really a choose-your-own-adventure. There is only one way to get to the ending; one wrong move and you're dead. You're better off just leaving this on the shelves and reading Animorphs for what it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pu-lease!
This book is one of the most boring and waste of money book KAA has ever wrote. I am a big animorph fan and I have every animorph book I could get my hands on. This is a bad display for my collection and with all due respect KAA, I think this book sucked. If you ask me, I would not want to have bought it if I had read a few chapters. KAA can do alot better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY Cool Book
I have to admit, I never really cared for Rachel books, but this one was just great! She morphs a starfish, but gets cut in half, and 'cause they can regenerate, there were two Rachels! I loved the way the book was told from both the Nice Rachel and Mean Rachel's viewpoints. Mean Rachel was hilarious, and Nice Rachel was pretty cool. I think this is the best Animorph book so far. I'd recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended
I recommend this book to everyone. It's about when Rachel morphs a starfish to find an earring when all of the sudden she gets snapped in half. When she demorphs there's 2 of her and the "twins" start to cause trouble and the animorphs don't know what to do about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Rachels?
Two Rachels? Like I said, Rachel's newest morph gets her cut in half, one mean Rachel andone nice Rachel. Mean Rachel wants to be leader or kill all the Animorphs and wimpy/nice Rachel doesn't want to morph or go on a mission. (One more thing, Mean Rachel does not want to morph back to regular old Rachel). Will The Animorphs be able to get the two Rachels back together or not ? Find out in The Separation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Why people like this book is a mystery....
This book is pretty bad, even for a ghostwritten one. (For those who don't know, books 25-48 of Animorphs were ghostwritten by someone other than KAA- that's why the plot never goes anywhere for almost two years,)

The initial idea was bad to begin with- doomed the book from the start. But even then, the author did have the oppurtunity to play with character development for a hundred pages. However, there was no character progression at all, and the 2 Rachels were just plain annoying. To put it simply- I've seen fanfiction that blows this out of the water.

If you're an Animorphs fan (which I have been since 4th grade and still am, 4 years later) then you can bypass this book. It, like most of the books from 28-44, has no point and although there's some mess with an anti-morphing ray, it's all resolved (poorly) within the next book. (You might want to check out 43, however, that one's decently done at least).

In other words, don't bother, and just reread the oldies but goodies you've had since you were a kid. Don't spoil the series for yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Review~
Okay, so this wasn't Applegate's best book. But that doesn't mean that it was bad at all! It wasn't GREAT, but it was still okay, and you should read it if you are planning to read the entire 'Animorphs' series. And for those of you who say 'It doesn't have a plot' or 'It has nothing to do with the Yeerk invasion', well I have to disagree. The plot is there, it isn't the best, but it is there. And it does deal with the Yeerk invasion. Think for a minute, please, if that McCole guy stayed a controller and advertised for The Sharing, wouldn't it have influenced many a fan? Think! That was the Yeerk plan, obviously. So please, people, THINK about what you say. Don't criticize someone for something that they haven't done!

P.S. Applegate, keep up the good work!

4-0 out of 5 stars Rachel has an allergic reaction to the crocidle morph.
This book was about how Rachel got an allergic reaction to the crocidile morph and she couldn't control her morphing. She and Cassie got to go to this talk show because a Controller was gonna be there and talk about the benifits of the Sharing which is really a group formed by the Yeerks to get more human Controllers. So she and the other Animorphs go but because of her allergy to the crocidile morph and her un-comtrolled morphing, a disater happens! I suggest you read this book if you like the Animorhs! It's good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny
This book is confusing, but it is very funny. while aquirning a croc, Rachael begins to morph uncontrolibly. She morphs in her room and the house comes crashing down. She starts to morph in front of Chapman, but he dosent notice. Read the book to find the ending!

5-0 out of 5 stars The reaction
The Animorphs and Rachel must discover why she's morphing uncontrollably before her secret is accidently revealed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reader Over 25
Greetings earthlings from your oh-so-ancient reviewer (who is way over the target age group, I know.) I browsed over the other reviews and didn't find an in depth synapsis, so before my usual spill on the "older than thou" side, I'll start there. The reaction starts out with a humorous tone which quickly turns to action. While in the Gardens (a zoo/water park combination) a very young boy falls into a crocodile pit. Rachael and Cassie are there on a field trip, and while Cassie runs for help, Rachael takes matters into her own hands. Dropping into the pit, herself, she attempts to rescue the boy, coming face to face with a very ancient, deadly predator which has changed very little since the time of the dinosaurs. Forced to acquire the crocodile or be eaten by it as a side dish to the person she's trying to rescue, Rachael manages to absorb the DNA (see Animorphs #1: The Invasion for the full story of how this came to be) from the beast. It leaves her feeling woozy and sick, but there's no time to question that with the situation.

Unfortunately, dealing with explaining to her friends how she took unacceptable risks is the least of her worries, because Rachael is allergic to the crocodile, and unaware of that fact, she begins to have bouts of uncontrolled morphing. The results are disastrous, resulting in her house partially collapsing as a floor falls under the elephant's weight, to almost morphing in front of Chapman, and almost blowing a mission. Fortunately, the crocodile pit episode as well as the house falling in put her in a very good position. Her father, a TV newscaster, flies into town to check up on her, and with his help, she's able to get the Animorphs into a place to fulfill their main objective of the plot.

The main mission of this story deals with a young TV actor who is a ultimate teen heart throb, and is about to start endorsing the Sharing. Adored by teen girls nationwide, the Sharing's influx would skyrocket by such an endorsement, and the Animorphs hope to keep it from happening. Rachel's string of "accidents" make her a minor celebrity, and able to get into the local show where the actor is scheduled to appear for the endorsement.

Through all of this, Rachael tries to get a grip on her out of control morphing, and learns the allergy can be taken charge of by keeping a rein on any powerful emotions. For those who have followed the series to this point, I won't need to explain how very "un-Rachael" that thought is. Ax explains she'll need to expel the DNA of the crocodile in a kind of "burping" process. Naturally, this happens at the worst possible time toward the climax of novel, creating a large variety of havoc. As always no "spoilers" to how it ends, so the review halts there, but pandemonium, humor, and action tie up the end of the story.

Now for the 'older than thou' bit which I'm doing basically for any adults out there who are curious about these books (teachers, parents, etc.) This one doesn't have any heavy hitting moral threads running beneath it, but it does deal with something every girl has gone through (or will) at some point in her life -- the crush on a movie/TV star. It also deals with the disillusionment as someone finds out that the glamor and gloss on the object of their crush turns out to basically be a jerk. This one is full of humor, some tense scenes, an action/fight scene at the end, and quite creative. Applegate presented yet another new idea for her Animorphs, and a totally unique problem which had to be dealt with. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An adequate portrayal of Rachel that's long-overdue
I consider "The Return" one of the best books in the Animorphs series. Applegate and Harkrader use a clever and creative method to instill an atmosphere that's chilling and realistic. Difficult ethical questions are introduced and the answers hold astonishing wisdom. Rachel's voice has truly been lost through recent ghostwriters. This is due to the high level of difficulty which I'm sure ghostwriters Elise Smith and Emily Costello have discovered when attempting to portray this complex character. This book's importance to the series is unmistakable; with a mere handful of books before the series' conclusion, having an understanding of Rachel's emotions will prove essential. Readers who have not read previous Animorphs books should read them if they wish to fully appreciate this book. It's a great series, and more so when you take the time to read it thoroughly. The ending is left incomplete because K.A. doesn't have all the answers- no one does. That final, burning question has no sure answer, and you must decide for yourself. This book serves the greatest purpose of literature: encouraging both a comprehension of the world around us, and a desire to make decisions for oneself... therefore commencing the eternal legacy of intelect and learning. It is fairly well-written and is an enjoyable read that was worth my five dollars. I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars What an ending! (1 year old? yeah right!)
I think this book is very good despite the ending with a twist.
I'ts up to you to decide what happens.
Even though David was alittle crazy you can't blame him and in the end you just feel sorry for him.
He doesn't want to go back to the rock and live as a rat or live in the sewers he wants rachel to kill him.....
All rachel wants is to do the "right thing". Should she take him back to the rock? Thats what she wants to do but when david begs her to kill him she tries to get him to run awy so hes not her problem anymore. But david wants her to kil him because thats the right thing to do, to end his misery... but does rachel kill him? could she bring herself to do it despite her tough talk?
We never know but I think she would in the end to set david free from his living nightmare.
This book is great and deserves to be read by all you animorphs fans out there across the world!

4-0 out of 5 stars good..... but RANDOM!!!!
okay, so this book was deep and meaningful, but toally piontless. things are just getting exciting , and then this. it was a great book(earning my 4 stars) but should have been placed earlier like in between #25 and #40 when things began to get predictable.(the yeerks do something, the animorphs stop them, WHOOPEE!!!)but other than that, great job, ka!!

3-0 out of 5 stars O.K. book
This book was O.K. It was good, but it was of no real importance to anything in the series. I mean, they're winding down the series, getting ready for the end, but then they have this book that has nothing to do with the war with the Yeerks, or anything. It's just sort of telling you what's going on with David, which is fine with me, but you don't really need to know that, and it was really a waste of a book. I think she could've wrote about something more useful to the story, or had David be a bigger part to what happened in book #47 and what would happen in #49. It was good, but pointless.

4-0 out of 5 stars It wasn't that bad...
This book may not have been the best of Ms. Applegate's writing (The Illusion and the Andalite Chronicles topping the charts) but it wasn't as bad as some of the more disappointing ones (The Ellimist Chronicles). After all, it could have been a bit longer, but the ending wasn't as bad as the customer reviews are making it seem; she wrote that ending for the people with enough imagination to come up with it further. True, she didn't explain much of the back story, and people who aren't familiar with the series would get confused, but...? This is for the fans who have lasted this long to find the return of the rat. If you don't get it, try going back and starting from book one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
In this book the Yeerks try to takeover the USS George Washington and its battle group. The Animorphs steal an nat'l airgaurd F-16 and crashland in the ocean next to the carrier. The Animorphs fight the Yeerks on the ship. Will they win, or will they lose? Read the book to find out!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the turning Point in the Series
This book was awesome. It's getting more down and dirty now, since the series is coming to a close soon. There's way more action, there's more drama, and there's more of a reason to fight than just to survive. And when Ax almost does the unthinkable, it just makes it better. This feels like the turning point in the series, so it just makes it cooler.

4-0 out of 5 stars The mini-series picks up!
I was worried about what the ten-book mini-series was going to be like after reading no 45, which wasn't half as good as I expected it to be. But this book was a huge improvement. There was a lot of fighting, but somehow it seemed to return to the quality of the old Animorph books, even though it was short. Ax's previous books have made me dislike him slightly; he seemed more and more arrogant. This book has changed my mind about him, showing why he has always been so careful before to not interfere in human matters, and the terrible choice he had to make. The ending was brillant and echoed parts of the Hork-Bajir Chronicles, especially. The book didn't change so much from the-war-with-the-Yeeks point of view, but it changed Ax's friendship with the Animorphs completely. One of the best Ax books recently!

5-0 out of 5 stars Point of View
I loved this book. It was great to see how Ax-man saw human war through his own eyes. I mean, if humans are so primitive, then why shouldn't we see how human wars are through an alien's eye?

3-0 out of 5 stars An okay book.
The Deception has plenty of action and a new enemy has comeaboard for the Animorphs. The new fiendish Visser Two has a plan that Ax and the others must stop - or a major war will break out. Unfortunately, Ax is only left with one decision. But can Ax do the unthinkable? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Ax book up to date....
Everyone should know that Ax is the only Andalite that the Animorphs have spent the longest time with, and he is the only one who has no chance at starting a relationship with one of its kind(seeing how he's the only one on the planet who is not infested with a Yeerk). But in #34, The Prophecy, we got a taste of an Andalite boy-and-girl thing, even though it didn't go well and technically wasn't a face-to-face thing. But now we get the chance to know an Andalite in love.

It was about time that more Andalites show up on Earth, but they are on an assassination mission to eliminate Visser Three, and have no interest to help the Animorphs. With that the Animorphs start to fall apart, and Ax must make the decision of which group he should stay with. This book has a lot of Ax humor, and the relationship with him and the female Andalite cadet is very cute. However, the book has a great plot-twist at the end that will surely satisfy and surprise the fans. This book has to go among the top of the best Animorphs books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Come on, people!
Hey, I just read some other reviews for other Animorphs books, and I think somepeople should get off Ms.Applegate's back. I live in a place where new Animorphs books are hard to come by, if you go to a bookstore, the newest you're likely to find is like, #28 or something. I do think the story is getting a little long, but the books are still good. I love to laugh at Marco's jokes, and at how everyone always gets annoyed with Ax for "our minutes". I am asking for more longer books to be written about the Animorphs though, like the Andalite Chronicles, or the Hork-Bajir Chronicles. These normal books are too short, I just devour them up. I contnually thank my friend Kirstin, for getting me hooked on Animorphs, I won't ever forget that! So really, go easy on Ms. Applegate. By the way, this book was really, neat, how we actually meet more Andalites. I really appreciate how Ms. Applegate always makes her stories twist in a neat, suspenseful, page-turning way!

5-0 out of 5 stars Andalites reach Earth!!
In this book Andalites reach earth and Ax is demanded to choose a side. Will Ax stay with the Animorphs or leave and return to the home world? Read the book!

4-0 out of 5 stars really good but frustrating
I thought that this was a really good book beacause I was totally in suspence reading it and it was cool the way andalites finally came to earth, even though I dont like Ax that much this book was better than the average Ax book....the best bit was the twist at the end but it really anoyed me the way they had plenty of times when they could hav killed visser three and as usuall they didnt!I think ever since issue 23 the books have been getting worse but there still good just there not long enough. Its well worth reading though and I pretty much liked the end except I would have liked the andalites to stay and fight the war with the animorphs.Buy this book its better then the average animorph book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Animorphs Book!
The best of them all it tells the story of Tobias, and his struggle of being trapped as a hawk. The book can be sad but it has lots of action and adventure. I recomend this book to any animorphs reader!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Animorph books

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK ROCKS!!!
In this book, the Yeerks are building a Kandrona in the Arctic that would make every body of water in the world(even swimming pools!) into Yeerk pools. The Animorphs can't let that happen, so they morphs flies and hide under Visser Three's stomach :o). They head north on the Blade ship. Once in the Artic, they morph wolves and are freezing, so they morphs seals and polar bears. They head for the Kandrona site. What will happen next? Read the book to find out!

5-0 out of 5 stars "COOL" book!!
Marco finds out that a Yeerk Pool is being built so that it can satellite a small Yeerk Pool in anything!!(etc. swimming pools, water slides) So what's the big deal about that?? The fact that it is in a country with a temperature of below freezing, that's all!! Marco has to deal with a new species called Venber, he has to survive in the icy, wild, wild, north, and he adds the touch of humor that makes this book truly COOL!!

3-0 out of 5 stars The Extreme
The book is well written and filled with suspense. I like it fairly well but I think the plot could use some work as it is a bit cliche. The Extreme isn't as interesting for me because I like books that are written from Axsviewpoint so you can get some information about what it is like to be anAndalite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Animorphs rule!
I have to admit that this book is really good. I have read all the Harry Potter books and this Animorph book rules. It has it all. This book is action packed, it's really funny and at some parts it is scary. This book makes Harry Potter look like a picture book. I just LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEE thisbook.

3-0 out of 5 stars This book is OK.
At first this book is exciting when they were trying to escape from the blade ship but when you read the part when they reached the Arctic,it was was boring until the end of the story.Anyway it is OK. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars i'm talking about the paperback here (librarry)
I like this book because while showing Rachel Yeerk Pool entrences, they wind up at an exit in the woods where two free Hork-Bajir are escaping. the Elimist tells Tobias that if he helps the free Hork-Bajir get a place to live that he'll get what he wants. What Tobias wants is to be human again, but keep his morphing power. Will the Elimist cheat Tobias? Read the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Reader Over 25
I've been reviewing all of the Animorphs as I reread them (and filled a few holes in my collection via Amazon) so if anyone is actually interested in other reviews, you'll find me there. Being this is a book in a series, you'll need to read Animorphs #1: The Invasion to get all the details of who these characters are, why they're doing what they are, and how they "morph." However, like all the other books of the series, there's a general outline at the start of the book to condense events so the reader isn't utterly lost on what's going on. There's enough written in paraphrase to where you can start with any of the books, and reading the others isn't critical (but is helpful.) Since there isn't already a synapsis on this one, I'll begin there.

The Change is narrated by Tobias, one of the five humans who have the power to become any animal they touch, and one alien who was a survivor from a crashed spaceship. They, alone, are the resistence force for earth to halt a race of slug like creatures called Yeerks from taking over the bodies of billions of humans, then destroying what's left of the planet. Tobias is a boy who is trapped in the body of a red tail hawk, so different from the others in that respect. Why is covered in the short form at the start of the book, or full form in The Invasion. He spends his days either hunting for rodents or when full, has a lot of time to follow known Controllers (people who have a Yeerk living in their brain which completely controls the host body.)

When Tobias invites his fellow friend and Animorph, Rachel, out for a flight to look at some entrances to the Yeerk pool he's found (again, see earlier books in the series for the Yeerk pool), they find themselves flying in completely the wrong area, as if Tobias was lost. Although this bothers him, because he can't imagine how he lost his sense of direction, all thoughts turn to something else when they witness a pair of Hork-Bajir fleeing for their lives from other Controllers. To date, all the Hork-Bajir have been enslaved, so why they're being chased is a puzzle at first. The once gentle species was entirely enslaved because of their great physical strength and cutting blades covering their arms, legs, heads, and tails. As Marco put it "walking salad shooters." The realization strikes the characters that somehow these two Hork-Bajir might actually be free of the Yeerks which were inside their minds, and they rush to the rescue.

Unfortunately, saving and keeping two free Hork-Bajir from recapture is a grueling task. The Yeerks are willing to stop at nothing to get them back, throwing Taaxons (a giant centipede race with a nasty habit of devouring even their own kind, along with anything else), humans with Dracon beams, humans with ordinary guns, helicopters, vehicles, and Hork-Bajir controllers at them. Tobias brings in the rest of the group to help, and throughout the story, he finds himself places he didn't intend to be or has visions which help him along. Angry at being used, Tobias finally plants his talons and won't carry on until the person/creature who is using him reveals himself. The Ellimist proves to be behind it, and says he'll grant Tobias' greatest wish if he'll continue the mission. He would have done it, anyway, but now he hopes to be human again, giving him even more reason to carry on. Working with the Animorphs, he has to try and find a safe haven for the two peaceful, sweet, and somewhat dull witted aliens. I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't read the book, but as always, the story keeps itself together well. It has more action in it than the last book, being closer to Megamorphs #1: The Andalite's Gift in that regard. The ending is also well thought out.

This area is what I call my "older than thou" part of the review because I'm way over the normal age group these are written for. So why exactly do I write these reviews? Because I think it's a good idea to have a synapsis up if there isn't one, yet, and also to give a very different insight if adults are looking into what their kids read, looking for a gift, etc. (Much like the last book, there aren't any strong, underlying themes to this story (as there have been in others.) Tobias is, in many ways, the inner strength of the group, not letting self pity take control over him in spite of the tremendous amount of loss he's had to deal with. To use an old phrase, "when the going gets tough, Tobias keeps going." The character has to question himself in several places when the Ellimist keeps his "promise," and in doing so, has to do even more growing up mentally and emotionally. He asks himself if this was what he really wanted, and had he been tricked? The reader is left to decide that on their own, but the very ending paragraphs will tend to leave the reader with a smile. Overall, this is one has a lot of action, near escapes, and "grip the edge of your seat" scenes in it. Some of the books in the series get more introspective, others focus mainly just on a good, flowing story, and still others have more action than normal. Although this is a well written novel with a very good flow beginning to end, its one of the more action oriented ones, in my opinion. This is a good one if you want to skip books like The Secret where the reader is left to ponder age old questions which don't have answers (yet they will always still be asked by the human race) in favor of some hard hitting scenes of fugitives on the run and trying to beat all the odds which are against them. This is also a very important one to read for some of the future books in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well, I don't think I speak only for myself when I say.....
W-O-W!!! This used to be my favourite animorph book(and believe me, it has to be good to top that lot!), it's topped, only just, By number 45, about Marco and his Family. Anyway, I adore this book, for HUNDREDS of reasons! Tobias and Marco are my fav characters, Tobias because of all the stuff he's been though, and his family doesn't want him, and you automatically think ahhhh, and Marco just coz he's the humourous relief and all that! In this book (and I can't remember it too well since I haven't read it for agggges) Tobias regains his morphing powers. Just when your thinking, 'O.K, so he can morph, but he can never be truly human can he, the poor soul' he has a dream, and he sees him self. Somehow (and I, as I'm sure many others are, that the Ellimist had SOMETHING to do with it) he manages to aquire himself, so that he can morph his former body. At the end, the most touching part of the in my opinion, he goes to an award ceremony that Rachel tried not to let him know about, as she thought he couldn't go. He surprises her there, and I can't think of anyone who could read that part and not think..ahhhh. As a girl i realise that some people might not like this as much, as it doesn't have many battles, but it's so sweet and lovely that I find it wonderful. Also, as a girl I am fasinated by the relationship between Rachel and Tobias, and think the final gesture of this book is inspiring. I hope I haven't spoilt it too much for you!!!
p.s. if you liked this one, try number 45, That is MY FAVOURITE EVER!!!thanx!!!XxX

5-0 out of 5 stars About the cover........
I liked the book. The reason it's a 9, because I don't like Cassie books much. Also, I think that the morph on the cover should be a skunk....not a wolf(I'm not saying I hate wolves or anything, but the skunk was the main animal in there) -The Black Wolf

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the Better Books
This book is definatley one of the good ones. In The Secret Cassie and the other animorphs find out that the yeerks are planning to destroy the forest that Ax and Tobias live in. Also, Cassie rescues some baby skunks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so good
This book is not so good. Why did they have to do the skunk stuff? And the termite thing was weird. This is the only ANIMORPHS book I don't like.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Secret

5-0 out of 5 stars Reader Over 25
For some reason this may be showing up under Making Waves by K.A. Applegate, but if it is, please note it goes to Animorphs #9: The Secret by the same author.

There are already several good reviews up with a synapsis of this book which will tell you exactly what the story/plot is. As always, I suggest people refer to these first, and I'm reviewing the Animorphs series from another angle (let's face it, I'm over double the target age of the series.) However, if there's any other adults out there who have kids who want to read these, or someone is curious what they're like from an older standpoint, these reviews are specifically for you.

This particular book was very heavy on making the reader think about several aspects over high intensive action. There were some great pulse pounding scenes, such as near capture, and when termite bodies took full control, making the characters little more than automatons. There was also a great deal of humor in it, particularly in the end when the Andalite Controller we all love to hate "gets his." Up to this point, the author has balanced the story a bit more with other elements instead of going quite so heavy on the side of heavy hitting questions about life, death, and what is right or wrong. I get the feeling from the other reviews that Cassie often isn't one of the favorites because she's the deep thinker. That's what actually makes her critical to the team, because she's much faster to pick up the real motives behind what people do on an emotional level. Marco is also sharp, but tends to be more of the long term thinker instead of seeing through people (or aliens in Ax's case). The very stuff which makes Cassie up becomes very apparent in this book, and although I liked it, I can see how it could become tedious to the 9-12 year old group. Cassie poses a lot of serious questions in this one, and becomes a mother skunk to save a litter of kits. Her love of life, all life, is very deep and the skunk was wounded because of an Animorph's battle when a stray Dracon beam hit her. She's angry at Tobias at eating one or more of the litter, yet she knows he has every right to live, too, as a hawk. Where is the right and wrong of it? When they infiltrate the termite hive and end up destroying the Queen to save themselves, Cassie is torn on the knowledge that they invaded a "world" which wasn't their own, and literally destroyed it. Was she, then, no different than the Yeerks? What measures become necessary in their war, and when do they know when to quit? Most of the questions don't have answers, but they are also the kinds of questions humanity has asked in the past, and will continue to ponder (hence should/will continue to be asked.) If there's a moral to that thread, it's much the same as The Stranger. It comes down to simply you do what you have to and the best you can. It could make an interesting book for discussion in a paper for school or something along those lines, but overall somewhat intense. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this is a really cool book
this is an awesome new "side series" to animorphs.i like this book because you feel like you're actually an animorph.it's a really cool feature to the animorphs series.not only can you read about them in the normal books, you can join em with the alternamorphs series!in my opinion it's a great idea.

2-0 out of 5 stars This IS the worst Animorphs book...
I'm giving it two stars (one was for the book, and the other was for the cover, which I liked) This book didn't really appeal to me, like all the other Animorph books. The first Alternamorphs was better than this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK
I thought this book was all right.I didn't like the way it just repeated breifly the events that had already taken place in the series, though. It was like reading a weird summary that misses lots of points. However, I dolike to choose morphs, etc, so it was okay

2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't really care for it.
Undoubtedly, this is one of the worst Animorphs books. (Theonly worse one was The First Journey). Basically it was a lesserrehash of #26, The Attack, and Megamorphs #2, In the Time of the Dinosaurs. Those were two of my favorite books, which is probably the only reason this got two stars instead of one. In any case, I only reccomend this to completists. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Animorph
This one starts with Jake having some wierd flashes when he's in the rainforest. Then there seems to be a Yeerk Bug Fighter crashed into the supermarket. The Animorphs go to investigate and end up taking the Bug Fighter for a joyride attempting to land it in DC- right on the President's front lawn! THeir plans go awry when they run smack into Visser 3's Blade Ship and somehow end up in the rainforest!

THis is one of the best Animorphs and isn't as predictable as a lot of them. One ofthe reasons I don't like it is that sometimes Applegate throws them into places like the rain forest and the North Pole- It doesn't make too much sense to me!

I would recomend it though, to any Animorph fan who is getting bored withthe series.

4-0 out of 5 stars somtimes confusing
This book was the third Animorphs book I read. At some points it was confusing, but it was a good book. It started when a next-generation Bug fighter crashed into a Safeway. human-Controllers are cleaning up the mess. The Animorphs morph flies and steal the Bug fighter. But it causes a time disortation, and the Animorphs are in the past eight hours. when they reach the time that the time disortation happened, both Jakes will dissappper. Read the book to learn the ending!

5-0 out of 5 stars A really great book
This book is about five kids who can change into animals. They change into animals by collecting the dna. The best thing aboutthis book is all of the battles. They battle the Yeerks wich are aliens who go inside your head and take over your brain. I would consider this to bescience fiction because in the real world you can't turn into an animal. If you like animals or aliens you would probably like this story. I would recommend this book to anyone who can read. Animophs eleven The Forgottenen was probablyone of the best books I've ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars You won't forget this book!
The book Animorphs: The Forgotten was written by K.A. Applegate. There's been an accident. Someone crash-landed one of the Yeerk Bug Fighter mobiles. The Yeerks have been trying to cover up the accident because if Tobias spots it he'll kill the Yeerks. That was my favorite part of the story.I rate this book 5 stars and recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun.
Once again, K. A. Applegate has written a great book. I went into this one not expecting much. I'm a fan of the series, but this one didn't sound that interesting at all. But once I got into it, I was hooked. She managed to come up with some really interesting plot complications. And I loved the kiss and the ending. I'm definately ready to move on to the next book after reading this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attack
Okay, so the books may be getting a bit repititive, but they're still very easy & fun to read!

5-0 out of 5 stars The BBBEEESSSTTT!
This is the best book K.A. has everr written! I love it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Honestly...
Honestly.. this book was written okay, but it was so repetitive of the others. I'm getting dissappointed in K.A. Applegate. She really should try to write differently at times. But, as I say with all Animorph books, if you are under the age of ten, you may like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars tHE mUTATION
The 36th book in the Animorphs series, i found that once i picked this book up, i couldn't put it down. To understand it fully, you will at least need to have read Animorphs No. 27 because this is sort of a follow-up. It is narrated by Jake and he and the gang have to destroy the Sea Blade, a new Yeerk craft, which is on a mission to find the Pemalite ship. THings seem to be going well, when the Animorphs are sucked into an alien city under the sea... ... Read more
