Book Description

The twenty-six young monkeys in this book aren't so naughty. They just like to have a little fun when Mom and Dad aren't home. From Andy all the way to Zelda, each charming chimp gets into his or her own alphabetical form of mischief. When Mom and Dad return, their fancy Victorian house is in chaos. Is it off to the zoo with the naughty monkeys? Yes, but only for a fun-filled visit (phew!). The bouncy rhymed couplets, combined with the utterly ridiculous premise, will make alphabet learning a treat.

Illustrated by Henry Cole.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tarzan
The Edgar Rice Burroughs books are full of suspense, a perfect bedtime story. The best thing is that many (if not all of them) can be downloaded from from Project Gutenberg. Try reading the first one, Tarzan of the Apes, to your child as a serial bedtime story. They'll be begging to go to bed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disney's Tarzan , clear and Precise
This version of Disney's Tarzan is clearly written and has accurate drawings true to the film's content. Rarely do you find a smaler version of the big books so well presented.

4-0 out of 5 stars Smaller successor to the Disney Classic series
Disney Mouseworks seems to be moving to smaller books and it looks like the end of the line of the Disney Classics series. The new Read-Aloud Storybooks are shorter (by about 20 pages) and smaller (by an inch here and there). That's too bad for those of us who have been collecting the old series. The paper is nicer and the artwork is very good, though, so it's not a total loss.

2-0 out of 5 stars at least they didn't make him sing!

3-0 out of 5 stars Curious George breaks out a spatula
Curious George goes to a pancake breakfast (actually, it's more like a county fair). Then, he makes pancakes while the cook is away. He makes them quicker and better than the cook. Then the cook chases him away. As usual, George gets in a little bit of trouble. Then all is well, and everyone praises George.

This book has part of the charm of CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO AN ICE CREAM SHOP, with almost exactly the same plot. There's nothing surprising here-- kids and adults will see Curious George in another formulaic plot. This book was adapted from the Curious George film series, and it is based on characters created by H.A. Rey. It is NOT one of the George books written by H.A. Rey.

Some readers are delighted by Curious George, and the plot doesn't matter. In that case, choose CURIOUS GEORGE MAKES PANCAKES.

If you want a better story, try CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO AN ICE CREAM SHOP, or, better still, one of the H.A. Rey-authored original Curious George stories, such as CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE HOSPITAL or CURIOUS GEORGE GETS A MEDAL.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brings back memories
Everytime I see a Curious George book I remember how much I loved reading them as a kid, I must confess that nothing has changed. This is a funny, entertaining book for both adults reading to children and for children themselves.

4-0 out of 5 stars George uses all his talents!
This is one of my daughter's favorite CG books and one that Ican deal with reading more often. George uses both his legs and armsto flip pancakes faster than the chef can do it. I liked the positive focus on George's (and kid's) skills. It leaves the reader with a nice sense of accomplishment. END ... Read more

Book Description

From the time she was a girl, Jane Goodall dreamed of a life spent working with animals. Finally she had her wish. When she was twenty-six years old, she ventured into the forests of Africa to observe chimpanzees in the wild. On her expeditions she braved the dangers with leopards and lions in the African bush. And she got to know an amazing group of wild chimpanzees -- intelligent animals whose lives, in work and play and family relationships, bear a surprising resemblance to our own. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent autobiography for young people as well as adults.
My 8 year old was assigned to do her monthly book report on a biography. She wanted to read about Abraham Lincoln... until she found out she had to dress up as the book's subject! Regrouping with a week to go and a driving vacation looming, I rushed to ...to find a children's biography available in audio download... and stumbled upon this gem. We all listened to the (abridged) audio version on the trip, and I do think that hearing it read by the author added a great deal. My daughter read the unabridged book with fascination when we got home, though I suspect she might have had more difficulty relating to the book had she not heard Jane Goodall speak her own words first. At any rate, the report (outfitted with khakis, a notebook, and a velcro-handed stuffed chimp) was a great success, and my daughter has met a role model of determination, compassion, and wisdom.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Heart-warming Adventure
An excellent book! Reading about the extraordinary life Jane Goodall has led is fascinating in itself. Add to it the personalities of the chimps you get to know as you read the book and the adventures Jane Goodall has experienced, and you have a fascinating read. Other reviews recommend this book to children, I recommend it for adults as well. I am thirty-something years young and cried when I read parts of this. Dr. Goodall's love for these animals really comes through.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring!
This book was so broing I couldn't even get through the whole thing. She was putting me to sleep!

5-0 out of 5 stars never forgotten!
This is a beautiful book, grasping your atention and holding your hand thru a fantastic journey into Africa, and into the chimpanzes of the Gombe. You will get to meet all of them, and even see how they are like, observing the individual diferences of their behaviour. Parents: please purchase it for your kids! Kids: get your parents to buy it for you! Inspiring! I am now 22, but I must have been 10 when I first read this book (not this edition of course!). I still purchase Jane Goodall's books...and I'm following the dream she helped inspire: to go to a place no one can pronounce to study an animal few people care about...

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating read for children

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Littile Monkeys Sitting in a Tree
The book Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree is about five little monkeys that go on a picnic with their mother. While mother sits down to take a snooze the five little monkeys climb a tree to watch Mr. Crocodile. The five little sitting in a tree tease Mr. Crocodile can't catch me, then along comes Mr. Crocodile and SNAP!! Where did all the monkeys go?? The lesson in this story is not to tease crocodiles, you never know what can happen. The age level on this book I would say would be 4 to 8 years old. I woluld deffinetly recremend this book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The five little monkeys are at it again!
My daughter (4) has almost worn out her copies of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed and Don't Wake Up Mama, so I bought her this and Five Little Monkeys with Nothing to Do. They are already bedtime favorites--they are bright and colorful, the rhymes are lots of fun and the stories are appealing to kids. She loves to sit and 'read' them to herself after we have read them to her and tucked her in for the night. She falls asleep with these books in her bed quite regularly. We love the Five Little Monkeys!

4-0 out of 5 stars Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree
The engaging pictures, suprise ending and repeated phrases in this book are the perfect way to get young children excited about subtraction! As a family of five monkeys goes on a picnic, they begin teasing an alligator. One by one, the monkeys disappear as the crocodile snaps its teeth. Children can count the monkeys that are left, after each time the alligator snaps and join in on the "Can't catch me" line that is repeated. It seems to be a predictable book, slowly loosing one monkey each time the alligator comes. However, the ending is suprising, and some children are able to find clues in the pictures that lead to finding out the suprise ending. This book is a great way for parents or teachers to introduce subtraction in a meaningful way! I highly recommend it. :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Curious George rides a bike
This book Curious George rides a bike is about monkey who gets a bike because it is the
mans and George's third year sense they meet. So George is a very curious monkey and
he is not aloud to ride his bike past his house but George does. George goes off and gets
into trouble.
This book teaches a lesson about listening to your gardian.
It teaches that by when George goes off and gets into trouble with the circus because he
feeds the ostterage a flute. The ring master told him not to feed the ostterage any thing
because it will eat anything that you give it.
This books age level is from five and up. It is this age level because it could teach kids
when there young to listen to there parent.
I think that the book was good it had a little bit of a adventure to it. It also tought a
lesson which I though was good also.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Little Too Long, But Still Fun
Curious George's new bike leads him to an extended adventure delivering newspapers, making a regatta of paper boats (there are instructions on how to make one!), and visiting a circus after wrecking the front wheel.

George is not quite as innocent here as in his other books. He's a little more like Mr. Toad, doing some things he knows he shouldn't do, and he's not always very careful. Still, his exuberance and the winning 1950's illustrations are a delight. As usual, George gets into trouble with people, but eventually he rescues one of the circus animals and is hailed as a hero.

It's true that George gets into an circus wagon with two strangers... Be sure to advise your own little monkey not to take rides with strangers. But if that upsets you, you might as well also explain that circuses are often not very animal-friendly. A little too long compared with the simple joys of other George books, but this does extend the curious monkey's adventures to somewhat older kids. Lots of action in the 48 pages, with no more than one to three short paragraphs of text per page.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is what spoiled it for me...
George was out playing alone when he encountered two men in a vehicle whom he had NEVER met before. They were friendly and told him that he was talented. The next thing we know is that the three of them get into the cab and drive off. Oh dear !!
This isn't the sort of thing I'd wish to encourage, would you ?

One positive thing about the tale is that it provoked discussion about
never going away with strangers even if they seem nice.
We like the Curious George books and appreciate the fact that they were written quite some time ago, but when reading to impressionable kids it's good to make sure that you approve of the content.

5-0 out of 5 stars George "junkie" loves this book
My 21 month old son adores this book. It's the longest book he's ever had us read to him, and he requests it over and over again. He can relate to the story line, it's beautifully illustrated and it's less dated than some of the "George" books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every parent is raising their own Curious George!
I will never forget my first trip to the library to check out a Curious George book. The stories I have grown to love are now a permanent part of my 4 year old sons library. This particular book is not only fun and entertaining, but also demonstrates a lesson to be learned. For friends of mine that are expecting children, instead of giving them the traditional clothes or toiletries, I buy them a Curious George book or two that they can cherish as their children get older. It is never too early to read to children, give them a book that will mean as much to them as it did to me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary!
I thought when I bought the book this weekend that I would read it once. However, I found myself reading it three or four times. The author captured the day in the life of a child. The fact that Misty is portrayed as a child and not a child with Down Syndrome makes the book unique. The photographer did a masterful job of capturing the many expressions on Misty's face.Because of the wonderful relationship between father and daughter, the book has depth beyond the cute story about the search for the lost toy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.
Don't get me wrong, this is a cute little book but I feel that the story goes on a little too long.My son, who has DS, gets bored with the search for Chimpy pretty quickly. The love and affection between father and daughter are very apparant and it's possible that he just prefers "boy things"like Russ and the Firehouse. But I felt this book could have been better. The indoor pictures lack spark and have a somewhat dated appearance.I found myself wondering how old the little girl in this story is now, instead of feeling that it was timeless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's Chimpy
I thought this book was wonderful! It shows how a day in the life of a little girl with Down Syndrome can be like a day in the life of ANY child.I have read this book to my children many times and it is one of their favorites. My 2-year-old daughter (with Down Syndrome) loves the beautifulphotos and pretends to read the book to us!I donated a copy to my7-year-old's classroom--I think it is a great book for teachers, as well asfamilies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book that features a little girl with Down syndrom
I love this book!!It is just a sweet, simple children's story that features a little girl with Down syndrome. The great thing about this book is that no mention is made of her disability - she's just a little girlsearching for her favorite stuffed animal with her Daddy!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books for/about Children with Special Needs
As an early childhood special educator, I am always looking for books that include children with special needs in an appropriate way.I love this book because it tells a great story that many children can relate to about a little girl and her daddy looking for a lost toy.The fact that Mistyhas Down Syndrome is never mentioned, which sends the message that kids need to receive -- that children with special needs are children first and that Down Syndrome and other disabilities are a part of the spectrum of humanity. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good long story about a Mommy bathing a little one....
This book is unlike bathbooks of my time in that its got a pretty lengthy story unlike the two line three page ones I grew up with. Its a little girly for my son though, but the story is still very cute. (Mommy baths the little girl Mi-Mi from head to toe, and tickles her toes)

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read and play with at bath time!
I'm a fan of squooshy bathtub books because my little ones, close in age, love to bath together and "read" to each other while we lather up. This book is not only cute and colorful, but the story is lively and easy for little toddlers to love. I recommend this and all the other Einstein Bath books for your wee ones! 4-0 out of 5 stars Fine Curious George book
My son is two years old, and loves this Curious George book. Curious George Goes to an Ice Cream Shop was not written by H.A. Rey, the creator of Curious George. Rather, the book was adapted from a Curious George video.

Still, it's a great story.

The Man With the Yellow Hat leaves George in the custody of Mr. Herb, at Mr. Herb's new ice cream shop. When George is unattended, he jumps on the counter, and begins adding scoops of various flavors to Mr. Herb's order! Later, he hops onto a counter near a window looking into the street. His antics draw a crowd of onlookers, and suddenly Mr. Herb has more ice cream orders than he can handle!

As always, the mischievous George escapes any real trouble, while having a lot of fun. Everything turns out well. While this book is no masterpiece, I think most Curious George fans will enjoy it.

"This is George. George was a good little monkey and always very curious." Upon hearing these words, generations of children have settled in for a cozy interlude of adventures with their favorite trouble-mongering chimp. Fans of the insatiably inquisitive George will be delighted to find that eight new adventures, written and illustrated in the style of George's creators, have been collected in one big blue book. Each story follows the same pattern; the man with the yellow hat trustingly leaves George alone for just a minute--which is long enough for him to get into a peck of trouble. The lovable monkey tempts disaster and saves the day over and over, first in a chocolate factory, then in an animal shelter, a movie theater, a hot air balloon... but can we blame him? Who hasn't wondered how chocolates get their swirls, or what makes a movie appear on the screen?

Featuring the art of Vipah Interactive, the animators of Curious George CD-ROMs, these stories are every bit as hilariously satisfying as those of the Reys. Curious about George's other escapades? Try The Complete Adventures of Curious George. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars skip this remake and buy the original
every story in this book has been made with the same storyline. The original fun and creativity is gone.

My opinion - if you want good original George, buy the original, this is rehash which can be great for the very young, but my daughter and I have quickly gotten bored with this

5-0 out of 5 stars Some Of Curious George's Most Exciting Adventures Yet!
I simply cannot understand why people are giving this book a hard time. Yes it is true that the stories & pictures contained in this wonderful collection were not actually written and drawn by the Reys, but who really cares? This book stays true to the Curious George tradition. In fact, if it wasn't stated in the book, you might otherwise never have noticed. The stories are humorous, fun, exciting, suspenseful and always have a happy ending. The adventures George gets into in this series are more applicable to kids today. Although it is fun to see George get sent into space, a child simply can't relate to that. However, I don't think there is one of us who can't empathize with the excitement of going to a movie or the fun or playing with puppies. The bottom line is that you could nitpick the details of it, but if you don't like this fabulous collection, then you don't deserve to call yourself a true Curious George fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love George!
Wonderful fun for kids of all ages.
We used the illustrations for making t-shirts for our running team in a fund raising event. Then gave the book to a young mom. Everybody loves Curious George! This is what they mean when they say "its a classic".

Classic charm to last your lifetime. That's George!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the little ones
I have to respectfully disagree with the preceding reviews. This book is great! My 3 year can't get enough. The art is outstanding and the stories are fun. One of the simple facts of parenthood is that you will end up reading the same books hundreds of times. They might as well be Curious George books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Formulaic, formulaic
My 21-month old son loves the book, but I'm thoroughly sick of it already even though I've previously enjoyed the Curious George books. These stories are barely different from some previous "George" books I've read - for instance, Curious George and the Puppies is very, very similar in story line to Curious George and the Bunny - which is itself a rehash of a scene in Curious George Flies a Kite. I agree that the illustrations are great, and I realize that little kids like to know what to expect from a George book, but at least the adventures should sound adventurous! ... Read more

Florence is delightful.I loved watching her doggedly pursue her goal of "More Cookies" with her sidekick, Arnold, a stuffed monkey. Her determination and singlemindedness remind me of everystubborn five-year-old I've known."No More Cookies" is a book children will want reread again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Treat...
NO MORE COOKIES is the perfect book for young cookie lovers! Florence, a young girl, and Arnold, a stuffed monkey, are friends who share a great passion: eating cookies. But when Florence's mother sees that her daughter has eaten ALL the cookies in the cookie tin, she says "No More Cookies!" for an entire week. Florence and Arnold's response, "No cookies for a week. That's forever." So they team up and use their imaginations to find creative ways to change her mom's mind. The plans range from Florence and Arnold dressing up as the tooth fairy and fairy monkey who need a cookie so they can fly home to Florence dressing as a nurse and splashing red paint on Arnold--Arnold of course needs an emergency cookie to make him feel better. But none of their plans--as creative as they are--works. But Florence's mother is not completely unfeeling, the book ends with everyone in the kitchen making Magic Monkey Bananas (chocolate-covered frozen bananas with sprinkles).

NO MORE COOKIES is a participatory picture book with a familiar refrain that cookie lovers everywhere will join in on, "It's not fair! All we want is a cookie--just one."

The illustrations are great. An assortment of cookies decorate the green end papers. I love how Florence is portrayed throughout the illustrations. Florence is first shown sitting down holding Arnold, her monkey, on her lap, and one cookie in each hand. Beneath her is a cookie tin holding mainly--if not exclusively--crumbs or broken cookies. The colors are bright and vibrant, red, green, yellow, and purple. Although the reader first sees Florence wearing a red hat, in later illustrations she's shown with black hair that is very tangled. (It looks like she has either given herself her own hair do, or else she won't let her mom near her with a brush!) My favorite illustration of Florence is when she is sitting with Arnold on the front porch. Both are wearing chef's hats. Both have their arms crossed on their chest. Florence has this pouty face, and of course, Arnold's expression hasn't changed any. But I love the fact that Florence has placed Arnold into the same position as herself. But what I especially love are the "drawings" made by Florence throughout the book. (Kid-drawn art is so fun!) Highlights of some of Florence's art include: on green construction paper a self portrait done in blue crayon showing her fierce monster teeth. Her face is surrounded by a circle of seven cookies. Each cookie has an arrow pointing in the direction of her mouth. The caption of her picture: cookie monster! Another great kid-drawn portrait is done on yellow construction paper. Again Florence has drawn herself with blue crayon. The picture shows herself with a ring of chocolate around her face and a bright red tongue sticking out. The caption reads: "For the most chocolate just lick in a circle." Although I won't take the time to describe them individually, each of Florence and Arnold's plans for obtaining cookies is illustrated in one or more plans done on various colors of construction paper.

In this simple, rhyming tale a young chimpanzee tells of the love, protection, and caring his mother bestows upon him. In addition, Mama is "quite inventive, strong, and brave, and very attentive." In return, the chimp loves his mama: "She is the twinkle in my eye, my heart's pitter-patter . . . my star in the sky."

The illustrations, done in oil pastels and colored pencils, are outstanding. A plethora of lush greens, blues, and browns flow off the pages, making the jungle scenes and the animals come alive. Each double-page spread contains a phrase or a sentence in big, bold type.

An excellent choice for story time. Perfect also for Mother's Day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Four Stars for Eva
I was never into the science fiction type of literature, but this book was an exception. This is one of the titles I chose to read for a presention in a college literature class (Adolescent Literature). I read the entire book in about two days. I gave this book a high rating because I think that the adolescent age frame would really enjoy reading this novel. It's based on the future perspective of the world and how humans have totally destroyed the living space for animals. It has an unreality twist to the plot also when Eva is in a horrible accident and the only way that her mother and father can save their little girl is to turn her personality over to a chimp's body. With the science fiction twist and the easy understanding of the novel, I would definately encourage teens to read it. It's an interesting story with a good story line to read into. Even if you don't like to read science fiction novels, this certain novel is more than just a science fiction novel, it's a look into the future with a touch of family love and scientist's love for animals.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unique and Visionary Book for Teens
Eva is the story of a teenage girl who is in a car accident and undergoes a procedure to enable her to keep living. The first part of the book concentrates on Eva awakening and adapting to her new self and is excellent. Teens will definitely identify with her feelings of separation and her frustration at her lack of control. They may also learn from her strong will and unfailing attitude.

The second part of the book concentrates on Eva's newfound "purpose" in life. Her new life is worlds away from her old life as a pretty, admired teen. What she decides to do with her life, her fame, and her self are very intriguing and the author uses her situation to voice views about conservation, animal welfare and rights, and the state of the human race and condition. Some readers may find this portion of the book preachy, but I found it very valuable and an interesting frame for familiar views.

Eva is well-written and exciting. Descriptions are extremely vivid and realistic, and I found it easy to get involved in the story. The characters are very defined and skillfully drawn. This is a valuable book for humans of all ages.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Little Weird
I read this book some time ago 1-2 years ago for a required reading for school. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I mean the first few chapters where weird. But in the end it was. OK. Not the best but. OK. A Little confusing and boring at times. But not the worst. I would give it 3 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous for teenagers/everyone--Dickinson's best non-adult
See the other reviews--Eva has accident, has brain transplant, etc. The plot facts simply don't capture the wonder and horror of this book. I had to stop reading and just gasp when I understood what had been done in the operation--it was a complete surprise to me. Dickinson is like Avi with two extra pounds of creativity in his brain. The portrayal of Eva's developing isolation, her celebrity, her acts to gain freedom, and her passing on of culture to the apes is affecting and novel. I didn't really like the portrayal of the decline of humanity--it was too simplistic and predictable, though perhaps OK in a teen's book with other things going on. I have two other comments: first, think of this as an analogy to puberty/adolescence as some if not most teens go through it--a scary image. Second, see Dickinson's (more) adult mystery The Poison Oracle for an interestingly different perspective on the chimp-human phenomenon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading for everyone!
This wonderful book goes beyond the normal sci-fi book into the realms of social commentary, but without pushing it down one's throat.
The story really makes us think about how we would react, being thrust into someone else's body, unasked and unable to do anything about it, nor could the donor! It questions the rights of parents, doctors, sociologists, scientists to use their power in such borderline cases. The way this is handled is touchingly sensitive and surprisingly low-key for a book aimed at this age-group; it allows the reader to form his/her own conclusions, which generally arrive at the same point that author is aiming for.
The ending is is especially well done and one's heart leaps as Eva makes her decision - good on her!

Far better than many mainstream science fiction novels - this rates with the best of Sheri Tepper or Connie Willis. ***** ... Read more

Book Description

When George and the man with the yellow hat stop to shop at a chocolate factory store, George becomes curious about how chocolates are made. Though he begins to follow the factory tour, George is soon off on his own to investigate. The adventures of Curious George continue in an all-new series beginning in fall 1998 with eight new stories. Written and illustrated in the style of Margret and H. A. Rey, the books will appear in paperback (8 x 8") and hardcover editions and will feature the art of Vipah Interactive, the animators of HMI's Curious George CD-ROMs. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Curious George--the way we remember him
In their version of the iconic character, Vipah Interactive draws upon our collective memories--not the reality--of Curious George. Gone are the thirties' cartoon mannerisms, the gritty ash can school shading, and the suggestion that monkees like living in a zoo. In their place are clean, bright illustrations and skillfully obscured automobiles and clothing styles that push George's world into chronological ambiguity. Curious George Goes to a Chocolate Factory evokes the memory of old Lucy shows as seen through the gaze of nostalgia. But the storyline is contemporary suggesting that like choosing Control-Z, we can readily undo the results of our past actions.

4-0 out of 5 stars George Has a Chocolate Jones!
Illustrated and written in the style of original authors, Margaret and H.A. Rey, this 1998 release finds George and the infamous man in the yellow hat visiting a chocolate factory. When the yellow-hatted man tells George "wait here while I buy these, and please stay out of trouble," you KNOW that George will do exactly the opposite. After all, George is CURIOUS, and his inquiring personality and sweet tooth lead him deeper and deeper into the inner workings of the factory, where he gets into more trouble. His quick hands and mouth save the factory from his own curiosity-inspired havoc, and George goes home happy and full.

While not as clever as some of the earlier books in the series, the chocolate factory setting is inspired. Page 10, for example, depicts seven different mouth-watering chocolates. Little ones will understand George's interest in the making of chocolates, and his accidental, temporary wrecking of the assembly line. Again, I don't think it's quite up to the high standards of some of the other "Curious George" books. Twenty-two pages, with understated watercolor and pencil illustrations on each page.

3-0 out of 5 stars Stories need a little help but pictures tip top
I must say I was astonished to see how remarkably well Vipah was able to reproduce the artwork of the late H. A. Rey. Too bad they couldn't quite come up to par with the stories all the time. Case in point, My three year old was confused as to why the chocolates started going faster, since the text doesn't point out that george steps on a lever to make it go faster, you have to see it in the picture. Three year olds don't know anything about levers marked EXTRA FAST.

One great thing about these new series of books is they are mercifully short. The classic george books check in at 48-64 pages which gets really tiresome after 30 or 40 readings!!

I personally think the pancakes book is better. But Chris loves George so it doesn't matter much what I think. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful book!
My three-year-old absolutely loves this book. The story is very cute and the illustrations are wonderful! My son likes to pretend he's eating the chocolates off the page that shows which swirls indicate which fillings. And the drawings of the factory itself, where the machines look like friendly robots complete with smiling faces, are priceless! A very enjoyable book that will be read again and again!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book: monkeys and candy are our favorites!
We enjoyed seeing George get into trouble and then, as always, end up saving the day. We learned how to tell what's inside a piece of chocolate by looking at the swirls on top. We tested that fact ourselves and it works! ... Read more
