Book Description

It's market day in a Congolese village!

It's market day in Luzolo's village, and she has a five-franc coin to spend. Her parents tell her on market day, "No one gets something for nothing." She must choose wisely, they say, and bargain for a fair price. Then she and her friend Kiese discover that Mama Lusufu has a wild monkey for sale. They offer to trade their new purchases for the monkey, but Mama Lusufu has her eye on a new water jug made by Kiese's mother, who in turn wants a piece of embroidery made by Luzolo's mother. Luzolo's mother wants four tin cups, and the tin cup salesman wants a basket for his wife . . .

With etchings combined with vibrant collage, Sanna Stanley tells a lively story about two friends who embark on an elaborate chain of barter and bargaining to rescue a monkey.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Kid-Centered Visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo
This Congolese market story introduces children to a village where peoples' lives are intertwined and their talents and services contribute to village life. The cause and effect trading process challenges children to follow sequence in an inventive and entertaining way as they ponder the meaning of value beyond money. Luzolo and Kiese show children how they can reach beyond their immediate desires to care for someone in need. Rich illustrations and a unique printmaking process make the brightly colored African clothing pop from the warm village backgrounds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful images
The pictures are beautiful, vibrant. Quietly raucous story of commerce in a simpler place. Story is a little complex for 6 yr olds, maybe better for 8-9.

My daughter's kindergarten teacher read this book to her class, and my daughter wouldn't stop talking about it. It's been really difficult to find, so thank you www.Amazon.com for carrying such a positive and loving children's book.

It's great to see my daughter so engaged in a book. And the monkey is absolutely adorable!
It's no wonder the book is so good, given the author's credits.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is entertainment?!
If you've raised any children in the last 57 years, you've probably already read H. A. Rey's 1947 children's classic "Curious George Takes a Job" and you already know how... questionable some of its content is. For those of you who don't have kids, you should know what's in this book before buying it.

Check out page 17. Curious George has been found literally swimming in a vast vat of pasta. Instead of calling animal control and having him put down and tested for rabies, the cook who catches him in flagrante de pesto, instead puts him to work washing dishes -- with both the monkey's hands and his FEET. I sincerely hope no one actually ate off those dishes afterwards. Where is the heath department when you need them?

Anyway, the cook sends him to work with the Elevator Man, washing windows on the outside of a hi-rise building (without a safety-line!!!). Curious George sneaks into a room, paints it, and dashes down the fire escape. He falls and breaks his leg. We're treated to a picture of a crying monkey with a wobbly leg, bent in four or five places.

In the hospital, on page 36, George has recovered from his broken leg and is left alone for a few minutes. Okay, to keep it brief: he gets into the ether. This violates EVERYTHING I was taught in school about drugs not being fun. And then, on the next page you can tell by Curious George's rapturous grin just how much he enjoyed the experience.

And I haven't even mentioned the use of tobacco on page 41 or the prevelence of extremely high-emissions fossil-fueled vehicles on pages 13 and 14.

Bottom line: this book is POISON. Protect your children from it at all costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Curious George
I was already a "big girl" of thirteen, when this came out, but I still enjoyed it, and remembered certain scenes when I read this to my little boys. They empathize with George as he escapes the zoo to find his dear friend, the Man in the Yellow Hat. Witty and captivating illustrations immortalize George`s amusing series of adventures which culminate in a role in the movies. Lots of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Curious George takes a Job By: H.A. Rey
This classic children's book is a delightful tale of a monkey on his quest to find the man in the big yellow hat. Follow Curious George as he tries to escape from the zoo. There is a turn at every corner. Curious George can't seem to avoid mischief. The illustrations seem to say more than the words. This book is for all ages and is enjoyable whether being read to or reading by yourself. I highly recommend all the Curious George books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This book came to the school that I teach in a sample set from a publisher. It has stayed with me for years. The illustrations are wonderful and the story is better yet. The story is about a young girl who goes to the zoo with her gorilla friend (her father is too busy to take her. Her father finds time for her in the end and her gorilla turns back into a stuffed toy. Many children can relate to what this little girl goes through. The book has so much more to offer than what I can tell you. It is truely beautiful. I will put it next to my Narnia set...I am finally buying a copy for myself. Don't miss out on this gem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sad (for adults) heart warming story. Beautiful drawings.
My son (5) and I love this story and so does any kid I read this story to. We love it mostly because of the beautiful drawings (some sad, some funny) which are sensitive and full of little details that enrich the tale. Check out the incredible caged sad monkey (no need of words) or the funny "Super Gorilla" picture. We also like the text that is simple and straightforward on one hand but relies heavily on the pictures for further layers of understanding. Adults can argue about the subject of this story - I personally think it is about human relations (what's important) - but heard other say it is about fear (?) but all this is unimportant - kids and adults alike are drawn to the amazing drawings and can sense the richness of this book. Gorillas are sure to become your favorite animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anthony Browne has a special magic
I am a fan of Anthony Browne's illustrations and I am sad that so many of his books are out of print. But Gorilla is a great one to own. The picures repay study, as they are full of wonderful details. The story itself is poignant, with a hopeful ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL NIGHT! A WONDERFUL BOOK!
Popular author/illustrator Anthony Browne has garnered enough accolades to fill many a shelf: the international Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Kurt Moschler Award three times, and the Kate Greenaway Medal twice. We are reminded of how richly deserved these honors are with "Gorilla," a warmly satisfying story of the bond between a young girl and an animal.

Gorillas are the love of Hannah's life and her heart's desire is to see a real one. Regrettably, her father is either too tied up or too weary to take her to the zoo. When Hannah asked him a question, his usual reply was, "Not now. I'm busy. Maybe tomorrow."

But, did you know that surprises can take place on a birthday? Hannah had asked her father for a gorilla and, sure enough, he gave her one but it was only a toy. She tossed it aside and fell fast asleep.

She was awakened in the middle of the night by a smiling gorilla who invited her to go to the zoo. She wasn't at all frightened, and eagerly joined him. That was just the beginning of their nocturnal adventure.

It was a wonderful night that Hannah will never forget, nor will young readers soon forget this happy, imaginative tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful read-aloud
This is a wonderful picture book for little ones. Monkey has to make a special pizza delivery, but has transportation problems along the way. Children, often enamored with all things vehicular, will enjoy everything from bicycles to trucks to trains in this book. Not only is the text playful and the pictures whimsical, the story introduces little ones to math through the doubling of the number 2 in a most delightful manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun book with a subtle computer lesson
This fun book tells the story of a pizza-delivery monkey who runs into transportation problems while trying to deliver pizza to a children's birthday party.

The author uses her story to cleverly introduce young readers to powers of two. As many parents will know, binary (base two) numbers are fundamental to computer technology. So this book, in addition to being very entertaining, offers a very early introduction to a key computer concept.

The illustrations are great, and the story is very cute. This a wonderful book for any preschooler! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One superstitious little monkey
Willy is the ultimate boy, uuups, sorry, monkey that still lives in most of all. Full of insecurities, full of dreams, full of fears. Its very easy to relate to him, specially by every little child who at least once in his or her short life has felt left out. In Willy the Wizard, Willy isn't good enough to be a part of the soccer team, but more than that he is a supertitious little monkey who feels that if he doesn't follow his rituals, well, who knows?. Full of love, full of magic, with wonderful illustrations, the Willy series is a must have in every little child's library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for the superstitious child
This is a cute story, and would be an excellent ice-breaker for a child who might be a bit superstitious or obsessive-compulsive. After reading this book to the child, the adult could follow up with a discussion of the story's moral which is that it was Willy's skill and not magic that made Willy a great player.

4-0 out of 5 stars The reader is kept in suspense until the book ends.

A GREAT book. My 21/2 year old loves this book. He loves the pictures, and the repetition of the phrase "shhh, don't wake up mama" is fun for him to say as we read. My 6 year old loves the book, because the monkeys are so sneaky as they try to bake a surprise cake for their mother's birthday. All of the Five Little Monkey books are wonderful.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Opinion About Don't Wake Up Mama!
My opinion about Don't Wake Up Mama is that I think it is a very good childrens book. It is a good book for young children to start reading, it has easy words, that young kids can understand. For English, I have to read three childrens books, and write a review on each one. I think that this book is a really good, well written book. My favorite part of this book is how they are treating their mother with a happy birthday. I also thought using monkey's in place of children was a great idea. It gave the book a more interesting twist. The pictures were also really great. They all went right along with the story. I highly suggest this book to other children. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Curious George Gets A Medal
I recommend this book to a child of the age of 3-5. I think this book is good for both boys and girls. My favorite part of this book was all of it. I think the best part of the book for a child would be the drawings. The least interesting thing in this book for a child would be all the words.

3-0 out of 5 stars Curious George Gets a Medal
This book is a pretty good book that is full of adventure. It is basically about curious George getting himself into a whole lot of trouble (as always). It all starts when George spills a bottle of ink. He doesn't know what to do and doesn't want to make "the man in the yellow hat" angry, so he tries to clean it up with a whole box of soap. He dumps the soap on and brings the hose through the window, which ends up flooding the room. That is how George's adventure begins. George decides he needs a pump and he knows that the farmers down the street have one. So he goes there and gets it, but in the process he lets the pigs out and makes whole bunch of commotion, so he hides. Then he jumps on a truck and goes to a museum where he knocks down a dinosaur. He gets caught at the museum because he didn't have time to hide. They put him in a cage and start to carry him off, but then 'the man in the yellow hat" comes and saves him by reading him a letter he had received earlier that day. The letter asks George if he will do an experiment and be the first monkey in space! But will he go? You'll have to find out by reading this book by H.A. Rey.
This book is good but it is definitely not one of my favorites. George does a lot of naughty things and never gets punished for them. Otherwise this story was pretty good. It is wild and wacky and great for children, as long as they're not learning bad things from it (like you won't get in trouble for stealing). If your not looking for a book that will teach lessons or you want a book that is just plain funny, this is the one for you. I would recommend children from ages 3-9 read this book. They will most likely enjoy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Curious George Fiasco...
The basic storyline is that Curious George gets himself into a heap of trouble, and the more he tries to fix the situation, the worse it gets.

I did not feel that the story advocated George's tactics (stealing, etc.). All of the things that George does are obviously the wrong way of going about things...he doesn't earn the medal for any of his foibles. In fact, when George is caught it says "he felt so ashamed, he almost wished he were dead."

Of course, as in other George stories, the man with the yellow hat shows up to save the day, and he redirects George to a more appropriate use of his intelligence.

It may not be one of the great moral masterpieces of our civilization, but it's vintage Curious George--a classic from a simpler era when everything wasn't hyper analyzed.

1-0 out of 5 stars George never takes responsibility
This book doesn't enforce any of the values I'm trying to instill in my child. Not only is George curious, he also steals, runs away to avoid being caught, and when he is finally reprimanded for one of his many wrongdoings, all is forgiven due to his status and usefulness. This book may teach a child about how the world IS, but it certainly does not teach of how it SHOULD BE. No doubt kids enjoy the adventures of this little monkey, but we must ask ourselves what values it teaches our children. ... Read more

On a dark and stormy night in 1609, young Emmaline Perth's wish forsomething "significant" to be blown her way comes true. Soon, the great coastalcity of MacOongafoondsen (population 21) discovers an unexpected visitor by wayof a beached ship. No one knows quite what to make of the ship, nor of its soleinhabitant. "So that's what a Frenchman looks like!" says Bob the Milkmaid.Shmink the Bailiff has already illogically determined that the ship must hailfrom France. With breathtaking stupidity, the town leaders promptly decide thatthis "Frenchman"--really a chimpanzee--is a thief and a spy, and take him intocustody: "You will be held until your trial in my dank and rat-filled cellar,"Shmink announces. "You will be treated humanely, given a fair trial, foundguilty, and shot until you are dead." (When Luigi the Carpenter's Husbandreminds him that there are no guns in MacOongafoondsen, Shmink amends thepunishment to hanging.) Fortunately, wise Emmaline and her friend Young Flurpthe Town Fool will have none of this. Justice will be served, but not untilthey've experienced some high adventure beneath the city in an undergroundriver, upstairs in Shmink's filthy house, in a haunted castle, and by thegallows in a last-ditch effort to save Monsieur Eek, the chimp.

In his first foray into children's fiction, well-known playwright David Ivesmarries the absurd with a very real message about justice and equality. Thetruly remarkable citizens of MacOongafoondsen are what make this story"spec-tac-ular" (as Emmaline's dear departed father used to say). There'sOngka the Fat Bread Maker, who is thin and shapely, but she makes fat loaves ofbread. Then there's Minister Moonster the Minister (who is Plain Willum theWeaver on weekdays), Kawasaki the Left-Handed Farmer, Barbara the Carpenter, andMayor Ignoratius B. Overbite, each unique and memorable in his or her own way.Highly recommended. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Quirky adventure
Playwright, writer and humorist David Ives dips into the world of children's books with the adaptation of an old legend about a monkey and a small coastal town. With plucky preteens, cartoonish baddies and a very energetic chimpanzee, this is a fun short read.

The tiny but self-important village of MacOongafoondsen (Population: 21) has been experiencing mysterious thefts, right before a strange, seemingly empty ship runs aground on the beach. Emmaline (not "Emma-leen") and her linguistically-gifted friend Flurp (actually "Philip") encounter a small, hairy, odd-looking creature who will only say "Eek," locked in one of the ship's cabins.

The repugnant Bailiff Shmink and stupid Mayor Overbite immediately decide (in a display of hideous logic) that as the ship is foreign, it must be French, and as Monsieur Eek (as the stranger is now called) is a foreigner and has a lot of body hair, he must be a thief and a spy. As the daughter of the late mayor (before Overbite), Emmaline decides to be Eek's lawyer at a fair trial where the verdict has been pre-decided. But the mayor and bailiff manipulate the situation for their own ends...

"Monsieur Eek" is based on a legend, possibly true and possibly not, about a coastal town in England where a chimp was put on trial. Happily, Ives doesn't cling to historical fixings and instead provides a quirky cast of characters, cartoonish situations, and last-minute saves. One example, for instance, is Flurp wearing a baseball cap and eating sandwiches long before everyone else did. The writing style is quick and funny, full of hilarious or chilling situations, and the dialogue is pretty realistic overall.

Emmaline (whose picky pronunciation of her name is a running joke) is a good heroine, with a smotheringly nervous mother and a townfull of people who don't have her clear vision and sense of justice. Readers will feel almost as frustrated as she is. Flurp is a good sidekick, who recognizes what a good friend Emmaline is, and doesn't care how strange the townsfolk think he is. Monsieur Eek (or rather, Samuel) isn't in the book as much as the kids are, and somehow the monkey never becomes quite as lovable as his costars. The villains are stupid, illogical, bigoted, and willing to do anything for themselves -- and readers will hate them.

It's an entertaining little adventure, probably destined to be a favorite among fans of Lemony Snicket, as the writing styles are somewhat similar. The main difference is that "Monsieur Eek" is a more upbeat tale, with definite lights at the end of the tunnel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun!
This is a book which will make you laugh out loud (or at least chuckle softly!). It's marvelous.

When a shipwreck occurs on their shore, the townspeople of a small isolated village are forced to deal with their fear of strangers...specifically their fear of the especially evil and vile French. The townspeople---including such wonderful characters as Bob the Milkmaid and Kawasaki the Left-Handed Farmer---become divided as the trial of the mysterious Frenchman, Monsieur Eek, looms. Will Monsier Eek be found guilty of not only stealing the town's prized possessions but also of being French (a truly heinous crime)?

Don't miss out on this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This was a very fun book to read. I love the way the author told the story, and I liked the characters in the town of twenty-one. They were all interesting in there own way. This was an easy to read book with some twists and great laughs.

Check it out!

4-0 out of 5 stars Eek- what a good book!
It was a good book, but it should have been made into a series about the town instead of one book. It sounds like the kind of place you could write a lot of stories about.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very fun book
I picked this up for my twelve year old son to read, but I got stuck with nothing to read one night and I started it. (I originally bought because I liked Lemony Snicket's comment on the book jacket.) Anyway the book is a delight, with a charming and exicting story of a shipwreck near a mythical town in 1610.

The townspeople of this very small and isolated town investigate the wreck and find the sole survivor: Monsieur Eek. Wild accusations regarding this foreigner ensue. The townspeople are delightful characters and of course there is an evil villain. I don't want to reveal anymore except to say, that I was having a very fun time reading it, and after I got a little bit into it, didn't want to put it down. It would be a wonderful book to read aloud. If you are a fan of the Baudelaire Orphans I think you will also like this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For kids moving on up from chapter reading to novels
Evangeline Mudd has enjoyed an unusual childhood, from learning to swing from rafters to eating sandwiches with her feet: much like the classic Pippi Longstocking, her unusual childhood leads to an unusual independence and resourcefulness early in life. When Evangeline's parents disappear while on a research trip, it's up to Evangeline to travel to the Ikkinasti Jungle and find them herself. Evangeline Mudd And The Golden-Haired Apes Of The Ikkinasti Jungle is not a chapter book, at 196 pages, but still most accessible to kids moving on up from chapter reading to full-fledged novels.

5-0 out of 5 stars a lovable, fun-filled adventure
Evangeline Mudd might possibly be the luckiest girl in the world. After all, how many kids have parents who encourage them to swing from the dining room chandeliers or eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with their feet?

Evangeline's parents, Merriweather and Magdelana Mudd, are not your typical mother and father. The Mudds are primatologists --- people who study apes and monkeys --- and their specialty is the golden-haired apes of the Ikkinasti Jungle. The Mudds are impressed by the fun-loving and harmonious way of life the golden-haired apes follow and decide to raise their own daughter Evangeline the same way --- with a few exceptions like playing the piano.

The Mudds are as happy as can be living in their New England bungalow until a phone call from Dr. Aphrodite Pikkaflee changes everything. Dr. Pikkaflee is the most famous primatologist in the world and she needs help. A new family of golden-haired apes was discovered in the Ikkinasti Jungle and the Mudds are needed to observe them for two weeks --- without Evangeline.

The Ikkinasti Jungle is a dangerous place to bring a nine-year-old like Evangeline. There are wormy things that crawl between your toes and enter directly into your bloodstream. There are mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. And worst of all, there are giant spitting spiders whose spit can blind you!

Instead of exploring the Ikkinasti Jungle with her parents, Evangeline has to stay with her father's awful third cousin twice removed and his ex-ballerina wife. She can't wait until the two weeks are over. But then her parents mysteriously disappear, and it's up to Evangeline to travel to the Ikkinasti Jungle and find them.

David Elliot's EVANGELINE MUDD AND THE GOLDEN-HAIRED APES OF THE IKKINASTI JUNGLE is adventure-packed, funny and fast-paced. Elliot's conversational writing style will remind readers of authors like Lemony Snicket and Roald Dahl. Andrea Wesson's black-and-white illustrations throughout the book also compliment the fun-filled flavor. Readers will fall in love with the courageous heroine Evangeline. Will we be seeing her in a sequel? I hope so!

5-0 out of 5 stars RICHLY IMAGINED READING PLEASURE
If you loved David Elliott's first book (and even if you didn't) you'll be bananas over Evangeline Mudd. "Bananas" seems an appropriate expression here as Evangeline's parents are primatologists, and she considers herself the luckiest girl in the world. After all what other parents would actually encourage their offspring to swing from a chandelier or tell their child to skip a bath at night because he or she had taken one last week?

Dr. Merriweather and Dr, Magdalena Mudd are particularly interested in the golden-haired apes of the Ikkinasti Jungle, and wish to raise their child as the golden-hairs are raised. However, since Evangeline was obviously human that presented a few problems. For instance, while golden-hairs would never put a diaper on a baby that could be well, unfortunate, if the baby were human.

Of course, there were exceptions, too. The Mudds very much wanted Evangeline to take piano lessons, but they'd never seen a golden-hair pianist. This would be an exception to their rule. The Mudds are nothing if not flexible.

Thrilled at being sent to the tropical rain forest of Ikkinasti on a scientific expedition the Mudds are so eager that they never suspect anything might be amiss. They leave Evangeline with "her father's second cousin, twice removed and his wife." Melvin and India Terpsichore are extremely wealthy and absolutely horrible. Over a period of time Evangeline becomes miserable with this pair; she wonders what has happened to her parents. So, she writes a letter to the world expert on golden-hairs, Dr. Aphrodite Pikkaflee. He responds immediately, and it's not too long before he discovers that his avaricious brother is behind a plot to destroy the rain forest.

Evangeline and Dr. Pikkaflee journey to Ikkinasti to find the Mudds and save the rain forest. Once there they meet some pretty unusual characters including countless butterflies who aid and abet them in various ways.

David Elliott has one of the richest imaginations to be found today blended with a puckish sense of humor - an irresistible combination. He's a joy and so is Evangeline Mudd.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Isn't it Ironic, Don't You Think"
In this work the main character named Willy is a monkey. This book describes how Willy makes a new friend. In the beginning of the story, Willy is sad and lonely because he has no friends. As the story progresses he meets an ape named Hugh. They become good friends and spend a lot of time in various places together. The illustrations in this story is also very unique. All the characters are monkeys. Some illustrations even offer irony. In Willy and Hugh when they go and visit the zoo, instead of the cages housing animals, they hold humans who look rather scared. Browne not only adds irony to the illustration but also underhandedly suggests a double meaning behind this illustration. It makes a more mature reader question whether Browne is making an animal rights statement or just trying to make the picture funny. There are a lot of humorous and ironic illustrations in the story. Browne also plays around with the idea of irony in Hugh's masculinity. In Hugh's illustartions he is quite awkward looking. Hugh's shirt does not match and the vest that is over his shirt is three times too small. Hugh's pants are also not the normal length, not to mention that the knees in his pants are worn out. Dirt stains also are all down the front of his legs and on the back of his behind. The colors in these illustrations are solid, vivid, dark colors. These colors, although dark, do not add a dreary tone to the stories. The color's bold and vividness add to the story by keeping the reader's attention. The characters in these stories are male and the dark colors help to develop the character's masculinity. Seeing a monkey in a pretty pastel lavender jogging suit just does not have the same effect as a monkey in a dark green and red jogging suit. If the colors were lighter it would confuse younger readers about the gender of the characters The text in this works is written in a bold, medium type. This is done so that there is focus on the words, but more on the pictures. On the pages where there is print there are also pictures on the page and a larger picture on the opposite page. This story combines the text and its illustrations together. Browne seems very interesting and entertaining in this story. Whether the reader is young or old I believe they would find some entertainment in his books. Browne writes children's books that add a unique perspective to the work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to Read aloud
Little monkey, who lives in Africa, is pursued by several animals that also live there and one who doesn't. In his attempts to get away from his pursuers, Little Monkey has to run up, down, over, under, in, and out. He finally gets a rest when he realizes that his last pursuer, the tiger, doesn't live in Africa. This book introduces children to the concept that there are other places in the world and that different things live in different places. It also teaches them about opposites. This book is very charming and engaging. My two-year daughter loved it immediately and had me read it again and again. She now loves to read it on her own--to turn the pages to see "who is coming" to get Little Monkey and to tell the monkey to run. The illustrations are also engaging. A new classic for our house! ... What a cute book! I think that most young children would enjoy this book even if they didn't like camping. It is adventurous and keeps you curious. I think that girls would especially like this book because it shows that girls can be campers too and that they don't have to be afraid of the animals or anything else for that matter! 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have.
What a cute tale. An ape that escapes from the zoo takes a little journey through New York City. The illustrations are great. My 10mo. old son seems to enjoy looking at the pictures. I am sure when he gets older this will be a nice beginner book for him to learn to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A young New Yorker's favorite
My 2 year old daughter loves this book. If we read it once, we read it five times in response to her demand of "Again!" and "Again!" She loves spotting Marvin in some places that are familiar to her, like the subway and the park. But she really loves when Helvetica Hippo dashes out! No matter how many times we read this book, the anticipation of the last page makes her wiggle and giggle until the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advice For You, Too
This is the most profound book I've read in years, a short work, yes, but very intense. If you are like me, it will keep you awake at night wondering what happens next...again and again and again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Colorful and entertaining.
The illustrations are everything I have come to expect from Mark Buehner; however, the pictures are so entertaining that the story becomes secondary to them. It is an enjoyable book, and I will be reading it to my boys for many years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it, but this is also my favorite kid's book.
Marvin's adventures in the city are amusing in themselves. But take a close look at the pictures for the hidden characters that appear on each page. There's also a cute homage to the movie "The Natural". ... Read more
