Book Description

Never has saying good night been so much fun

Before he goes to bed, Little Monkey insists that he has to say good night to all the performers under the Big Top tent: Ringmaster, Elephant, Strong Man, the Clowns, and, of course, Mama. In the process he becomes part of the performance himself – until finally even Little Monkey can’t delay bedtime any longer, and there is only one last good night to be said – “Good night, Me!”

Pictures packed with funny antics, whimsy, and affection capture all the charm of Little Monkey – while this simple, playful text will have even the youngest listeners chiming in with their own “Good Night!”

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite of mine for 26 years
This book has been my favorite book since I was a baby. When I was little and my mom read it to me, I got so excited, because I loved spaghetti and I love the silly story! The story is simple and it rhymes as you go along. I can still recite every line! Now I am pregnant with my first baby and I am already having my husband read More Spaghetti I Say! to my belly, I cannot wait to share it with my child. If you are looking for a simple and sweet book with a silly story, this book is for you! also easy to help young ones learn to read, this book is great for everything!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes us all laugh
We read this book to our 14 month old. He absolutely loves it. He has learned to say "Mmmm" on the appropriate page and there are so many pages that make him laugh out loud. The story is so cute, clever and funny. The illustrations are simple and enable our son to follow along without having to read. It's one that you won't mind reading over and over again. And what kid isn't fascinated by spaghetti?

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable Little Book!
This is the cutest book I have come across in a long time. I checked this book out at our local library to read to my three-year-old son, and we liked it so much that I bought a copy. Minnie the monkey is bananas over spaghetti! The storyline is simple and interesting---and funny. My son wants me to read this to him every day, sometimes several times a day. I still find the thing amusing, even after having read it more times than I can count. There are a few additional benefits to owning this book. It opens up wonderful opportunities for discussion with your children on such topics as understanding the likes and dislikes of others, being a good playmate, the perils of overindulgience, and being considerate of other people's feelings. Not only that, but a little boy who wouldn't touch spaghetti before, now gladly eats a double portion! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars 18 month old loves this book
We read this book at least once a day to our 18-month old son, who now looks for "bunny holes" whenever we go for a walk. It's nice to have a short format book for Curious George-obsessed kids under two.

5-0 out of 5 stars Curious George and the Bunny
I got this book for my daughter's first birthday. She loved it, and asked for it again and again. She's almost two now and still asks for it sometimes. It's a charming story about a baby bunny lost and found. At one, I doubt my daughter could have enjoyed a full-length Curious George book. This was a wonderful way to introduce her to the character and whet her appetite for more when she is older.

5-0 out of 5 stars Curious George without the naughtiness! Yippee!
I adore Curious George but had struggled with the idea of buying the books for my son because George is always so naughty but ends up being a hero in the end. That is not a great lesson for the pre-school set, I think! He NEVER gets in trouble. In fact, great accolades are usually the result of his failure to behave and follow instructions to stay home. The only bad review for this book is from someone who writes, rightly, that this board book is just an excerpt from Curious George Flies a Kite. That's true but that's why I LOVE THIS BOOK! It gives me the opportunity to expose my son to this much beloved character without teaching him the lesson that misbehavior is acceptable. This version is fabulous. It is a great length and has the lovely illustrations that I remember so fondly as a child. That said, the way in which George "helped the bunny out" of the hole (by pulling the bunny's tail) provides a good opportunity to discuss handling animals gently with your kids! :>) Otherwise, terrific!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only book my 17th month-old really interacts with
We have a huge library of board and picture books. We read three to my son every night. This book is his absolute favorite. It is the only one that gets more of a response than just "doggie!" or "choo-choo".

My son laughs when George holds the bunny, pouts when the bunny runs away, and cheers "yay!" when mother and baby bunny are reunited.

He broke his arm this labor day weekend. :-( He doesn't want his toys, he doesn't want his blanket, he doesn't want milk, he just wants daddy to read him this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A bedtime favorite
I bought this book because of my own fond memories of Curious George, and am happy to see that my 10-month-old son feels similarly. The story is long enough to have a real plot, yet short enough to keep his interest. The repetitive nature of the text ("bunny" appears on almost every page) also seems to reinforce the association between the text and the illustrations. Several of our friends have pet rabbits, and my son invariably pulls this book off the shelf after visits with them! ... Read more

Book Description

Rachel can't imagine why Bucky Greene, a scientist friend of her father's who's developing genetically engineered bananas, would show up at their New York City apartment in the middle of the night to leave a baby chimpanzee with them for a week -- or why they absolutely, positively can't tell anyone about it. What could possibly be "top secret" about an adorable chimp like Friday?

Rachel hasn't a clue, but when Friday turns out to be really, inexplicably intelligent (Rubik's Cube's a snap) -- and Bucky Greene turns up really, inexplicably dead (he slipped on his own banana peel) -- she suspects serious monkey business afoot. And when chimp-nappers step into the picture, getting to the bottom of Friday's "top secret" before it's too late becomes a delightfully madcap mystery -- with Rachel in a riotous, nonstop race for survival of the fittest.

Written by four-time Emmy-nominated writer and acclaimed humorist Hester Mundis, who raised a chimp of her own in her Manhattan apartment, this is a wonderfully funny -- and heartfelt -- novel about endangered species, corporate espionage, and going bananas in more ways than one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars He's one smart little ape.
Do you like animals stories? Do you like mysteries with lots of slapstick humor and puns? Then I know you'll enjoy MY CHIMP FRIDAY, because it's all those things rolled into one.

When 12-year-old Rachel first sees Friday he's a small, frightened bundle of enchanting fur who reaches out to hug her and cling to her neck. Naturally, she goes "ape" over him. The fantastic news is that the strange little man who brings him to Rachel's home at 2:00 in the morning says they get to keep him --- for a while. But they can't tell anybody they've got him. How can Rachel and her little brother Jared keep a lively chimpanzee with 32 varieties of ear-splitting howls, yowls, and screeches a secret --- especially from nosy Aunt Lisa? It's definitely going to be a challenge.

It's also a challenge when Rachel finds out that the strange little man who left Friday with them slipped on a banana peel and died. As sad as that seems sad it's also a little mysterious. And Rachel loves a good mystery. But first and foremost, Rachel figures this means she gets to keep Friday for good. Wow! Her own little baby chimpanzee!

And he's a smart baby. Incredibly --- one might even say mysteriously --- smart. He can type real words on computers. He understands what people say to him. He's one smart little ape, and some bad people "ape-solutely" want him for themselves.

What will these people be willing to do to him to discover his secret? Read MY CHIMP FRIDAY to find out how Rachel unravels the mystery and maybe you'll learn Friday's secret!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Strange Egg
In Mary Newell DePalma's book The Strange Egg, a high-flying little bird spots a beautiful object below that she believes to be an egg. She attempts to hatch the egg until a monkey begins to laugh at the little bird, telling her that her "egg" is actually an orange. They enjoy the juicy orange together, and when the orange is gone, the little bird plants an orange seed and nurtures the seed until it becomes a fruitful tree. Now the new friends will be able to enjoy many more juicy oranges together.
The Strange Egg blends wonderful illustrations with a delightful plot to create a picture book that is no less than charming. Text excerpts and single letters add a sense of whimsy to the life-like appearance of the vibrantly colored illustrations. DePalma adds variety to the book by stacking the text and illustrations down the page instead of always having them proceed from left to right. And on each page, the illustrations appear in different sizes, in different places, and in varying numbers, which gives each page a unique format, in terms of the amount of white space or color, and in the amount of text and illustrations. The delightful feeling created through the enchanting illustrations and the whimsical plot surely comprise the best part of this picture book.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best little book in the world
This is a good book for all ages. It's a fun little book that you could read over and over again and again! This book is about two little monkeys that love their babysitter because she just talks on the phone all night. They get in to all mischief and mess the whole house in the process. They slip and slide out of the banana-covered kitchen in to the bathroom now covered in bubbles then outside to the muddy ground below the jungle gym. I think they are dirty now so they need a bath. They go take a bath and then notice the mess in the house they have to hurry to clean it before mama and papa monkey get home and then jump in to bed just in time!

5-0 out of 5 stars fun to read to your children
The story begins with the mommy and daddy monkey getting ready for an evening out and their two little monkeys are delighted because they know that the babysitter will let them do basically anything that they like because it is her opinion that they are "the best little monkeys in the world" The little monkeys do get into mischief while their parents are away, but it all works out in the end. This story delighted my children...ages 4 and 7 and even made their big brother (12) smile when he over-heard part of it. I recomend this book for children 3 - 7.

4-0 out of 5 stars How a Movie Works.
Even though this wasn't one of the original titles in the CURIOUS GEORGE series and was written and illustrated by some unknown writers and artists in an attempt to cash in on CURIOUS GEORGE, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I picked it up because I'm a huge movie buff and will read just about anything about the movies. I was especially impressed by how much the illustrations resemble the original drawings.

In this story the Man in the Yellow Hat takes George to see a movie. George is curious about the light in a little window high above the ground. So, while the Man in the Yellow Hat is getting snacks, George finds his way into the machine booth and causes a mess.

Children love this story because it combines the misadventures of George with something they are familiar with, movies. A delightful book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This story is actually about just plain bravery
This book teaches more than just being scared to lose a tooth. I think the main theme of this story is bravery. Arthur brags that he is "Captain Fearless," but both sibings(even Arthur) have a fear of something-Arthur is scared to lose his first tooth-and Violet is scared of the dark. But when the treat for dessert is taffy apples, Arthur doesn't want them because of his loose tooth(and his fear to pull it out), so Violet decides to make s'mores but has to go out in the dark to get sticks to make them-and faces her fear, so Arthur decides to face his fear-and chooses to be the,"Captain Fearless" he calls himself so pulls out his tooth and then he IS able to eat the taffy apples as well as the s'mores. In other words, this is a great story to teach about any kind of bravery!

5-0 out of 5 stars The other Arthur experienced the other tooth-losing feeling
The lesser known Arthur character, created by Lillian Hoban. Many people may know Marc Brown's story, "Arthur's Tooth" about Arthur the aardvark, but they may not necessarily realize that each Arthur has a different message. One is about being desperate to lose a tooth, the other about being scared to lose a tooth. I actually prefer Lillian Hoban's Arthur the monkey over Marc Brown's Arthur the aardvark, so I purchased this book as well as other Arthur the monkey titles. This one reminded me of when I was scared to lose my first tooth. Plus this one teaches how to make taffy apples and s'mores, and tells how the s'more got its name on page 62. If you wish, buy the Marc Brown book listed above, then buy this book and compare the two feelings of each Arthur character. However, if you are particularly interested in this title, beware of trying to obtain a book club edition through a school book club which has this title listed, as you may accidentally get sent the Marc Brown title. ... Book Description

From a fantastic explosion is born the legendary Monkey King, the clever and courageous hero of one of the best-known stories from China.

Ambitious Monkey travels to Square Inch Mountain, where he trains with Master Putt to perfect the art of turning cloud somersaults, riding the wind, changing shape, and disappearing in the blink of an eye. Then Monkey eagerly shows off his magic skills by tricking Dragon Kingand battling Jade Emperor. Monkey is so arrogant, he even gets into trouble with Buddha himself.

Caldecott Award-winning author-illustrator Ed Young has created colorful and lively collages and specially designed two fold-out pages to animate the story of Monkey King and his acrobatic, high-spirited adventures. This unprecedented picture-book adaptation introduces just the beginning of the classic epic Journey to the West, about the mission to bring Buddhist scriptures to China. Monkey is only one of its many characters, but he is undeniably the most beloved of them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful short version
A nice intro to Monkey King & a beautiful book.I could see reading it to a 1st or 2nd grade class as part of an intro to China. If you've talked about collages & how Eric Carle does his books, this would also be a fun book to see. There are also differences the Adventures of Monkey King told by Cheng-En Wu to spot.(My 6 y.o. & I make a game of that at home as we read Wu's version first.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful "Monkey" business
"Monkey King," by Ed Young, is a visually striking children's book whose story evokes Chinese folklore. The art is a lot of fun; the collages burst with color and energy. The only unnecessary element is an unwieldy gimmick involving pages that fold out of the book. Fortunately, this fold-out gimmick is only a very small part of the book.

The many colorful characters in the book include Red Beard Bandit, Dragon King, Jade Emperor, and the monk Tang. The wildly multicolored title character is a trickster, magician, and likeable rogue. His character is nicely complemented by Guan Ying, the serene Goddess of Mercy. All in all, a good job by Ed Young.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a barrel of monkey for younger readers
Monkey is too smart for everyone else's good and he eventually requires capture by Buddha himself to keep him under control. The adventures are fun, but simplified, to allow for the many scenes along Monkey's journey.

Although this book is intriguing, it is problematic for sharing with younger readers. The story is complex with many different scenes and characters that may confuse the under five set.The vocabulary is complex and the story is long. However, the book serves as an excellent introductory piece to the Monkey King, a beloved trickster from folklore.Young gives some helpful notes about the characters and Monkey's adventures from the epic "The Journey to the West."In the end, the book leaves you hungering for more stories about Monkey. ... In one word, wow! I purchased this book in the hopes of finding a good children's book, but boy was I surprised when I found a collection of lovely paintings, drawings, and pressed art made from the hind quarters of various baboon species. What a find!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and sweet
This one is a charming picture book for preschoolers on up through maybe second grade. One day a new teacher arrives at school. Dramatic irony kicks in; the reader can instantly tell that the "teacher" is in fact a gorilla, but the book's gentle humor comes from the kids in the story going along with the situation. Accordingly, they learn how to swing from trees and make a mess with art supplies and clang pots and pans for music. Along comes this principal, who informs the class that "there has been a terrible mistake" and that the *real* new teacher is here at last, having been sent to the zoo by mistake! Everything is thus cleared up, but the kids miss their "favorite teacher" and visit him at the zoo. Wonderful.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Day the Teacher Went Bananas
In this story it is about a new teacher which happens to be a gorilla. When all the kids got to school they were not sure on what to call their new teacher because he never gave them his name. All he did was grunt a lot. In the school it was time for arithmetic and he showed them how to count on their toes. They also learned a new way to write. In science class they went outside. For lunch they went back into the classroom and ate lunch. They new teacher ate sixteen bananas! The kids all decided to bring in bananas to eat for lunch the next day so they could be like their new teacher!
This book teaches that even if you are not the best teacher or your not suited for the job you can always teach someone somewhere something new.
The age level for this book is 3-8. I thought that this book was very good and I would recommend it for little kids.
