Arthur And The Pen-Pal Playoff
I read Arthur And The Pen-Pal Playoff. I think this book is great. I think little boys and girls will want to read this wonderful book. This book is great for nine year olds to read.
Little kids will want to read this book over and over again, it's an adventure. This is a way to keep young ones away from the TV. I do recommend this book.

Arthur Could Be Any Kid
When Arthur talks up his basketball skills in a letter to a pen-pal that he was assigned to write for class, he feels that he's in over his head. His pen-pal writes back that he's a great basketball player as well and then he learns that his pen-pal is the lunch-lady's grandson. Next thing he knows, Mrs. McGrady (the lunch-lady) arranges them to play a one-on-one basketball game. The thing that's great about this story is that it's a situation that many readers can identify with. Eventually, Arthur's forced to face his situation head-on, but he's not the only one...

Arthur and the True Francine
Arthur and the True Francine Book Review

Arthur and the True Francine is a really good book. Arthur finds out who really copied the answers on the test. Marc Brown is the author and I like the way he writes. I liked the different characters. My favorite characters are Arthur and Buster. I learned from this story that copying answers is not a good thing.

An excellent story about Honesty!
As a children's librarian, I must say I'm not fond of many series books. We are always trying to get children to read OTHER books. However, I grew up with Arthur and I do enjoy the books in his series. This is one of the best. It's an excellent story about honesty that portrays children realistically. I hear them talk to each other daily and this is how they talk about their teachers, each other, and school. This one's well worth the read!

Disappointing. Not appropriate for young children.
I was so disappointed in this book! We love Arthur, but a few lines in this book are totally inappropriate for young children. "[Mr. Ratburn] sleeps in a coffin and drinks human blood." "A big black car drove up. 'Who died?' said Francine. 'Maybe Mr. Ratburn!' said Arthur." This story is about lying and cheating. These lines could have been changed to more appropriate language and the moral of the book would not have been affected at all. ... Read more

Our family will be taking this book on vacation to the ocean with us this year! Mr. Brown does a great job of showing kids that it is natural to be disappointed when plans don't work out the way we expected. Arthur's Neighborhood: eith punch out figures and flaps
Our two year old absolutely loves this book. We've given this book as a gift to all the two year olds we know, they all like it a lot. We purchased our daughter a new book. She had torn the figures and slots they go in on the old book because she plays with the book daily! We had the figures laminated so they would hold up longer, it cost @$2 at a printing shop. One problem with some of the books is that the pages come apart, they need more glue inbetween!

great "waiting room" book
Over the past two or three years my five-year-old daughter has worn out two copies of this book. I am ordering a third. She never gets tired of moving around the punch-out characters, talking to them and for them.

20-Month-Old's Favorite Thing in the World
My daughter absolutely adores this book. Like another reviewer, my only complaint is the sturdiness of the play people. Once I'd taped Arthur's head on for the second time, it occurred to me to laminate 'em! That's what I'll do when I get our backup version of this. So that's the ticket. Other than that, she loves this book. She'll sit forEVer putting the guys in and taking them out. I've not seen her concentrate and work so hard at anything else yet.

My son's favorite book
My son (20 months) can't get enough of this book. We play with it for hours every day. I'd give it nearly 5 stars, but I'm a little bit unhappy with the play figures. I wish they were more sturdy! Other than that: an awesome book. A great gift, too.

Good fun
This book takes the child through a typical arthur day: breakfast, school, play, fire engines, shopping, etc. The flaps open, to reveal pictures and words. The characters punch out and are moved into slots on different pages to show different activities. These types of books are fun for kids, and provide a good source of topics for discussion while they go through the book. This one has a "let's find Pal" theme that is useful and educational, and there a good number of flaps, of different sizes, shapes and content. Overall, this is one of the better lift and flap books I've seen. I'd really give it nearly 5 stars; unfortunately, none of these books, while useful, are really elegant stories. ... Read more

One of the best of the series, and definitely fun!
Number 4 of this outstanding series was a blast! I like the idea of the story, how funny it is, and especially exciting. I wish that this story was real life, because I'd love to win a contest like that. Too bad these neat things have to be stories. Either way, you can't miss this one!!!

It was Enjoyable and Fun
Arthur and the Crunch Cereal contest to me was quite an enjoyable book. True that it wasn't one of my favorite of the Arthur series but I felt that it shows children to try to do something and your very best in what you do, but sometimes you don't always fulfill your wishes. Arthur "stole" his little sister D.W's song theme but in the end his concious got to him. I believe it showed children to always be honest. They'll have fun reading the book but shall find something as a reference in the future. There is always a moral in these arthur books and I enjoy reading to Children! ... Read more

NOT FOR 4 YEAR OLDS!
I purchased this book for a child's 4th birthday. I was going by the age estimate provided in the item description, which says Ages 4-8. Well, the book is actually for Grades 1-3, which obviously does not include 4 year olds. The content is appropriate, but there are not many 4 year olds who will be able to read any of this book on their own. So if you want a book that your young child can start reading on their own, look elsewhere.

Pickles, stickers and reading fun
This is a great book for teaching reading. Arthur is a favored character in our house , and the peel and place stickers really help little ones with the concepts of learning to read. It also has a whole sticker sheet that kids can illustrate their own story with. Marc Brown, through Arthur, can always view the world through a child's eyes, which helps parents to remember that things can seem alot different down there! I highly recommend this and all Arthur/D.W. books!

Ms. Carrolls' Class Book Review
In this story Arthur couldn't find a turkey. The best part of the story was when he found a turkey. We learned that at Thanksgivintg we can have fun like Arthur. Arthur was very funny in this story. Our favorite part of the story was when Arthur was a turkey and then everybody else became a turkey. We think that everyone should read this book because it has lots of funny pictures in it.

I think the book "Author's Thanksgiving" is a good book,because it helps kid understand about Thanksgiving. It also tells kids that in anything you do there can be a problem, but all you have to do is think it out even if you have to hurt a friend's feelings to make something better. It's a really Great book!
This is my favorite Arthur book. It is very funny & a creative idea. I first checked this book out from our school library. I liked it so much that I bought my own copy so I can read it again & again.

It is Prunella's 9-1/2 birthday. On her half birthday, everything was in halves. Her friends give her half of things for her birthday. Her older sister, Rubella, gives her a fortune telling Cootie-Catcher.

Every day everyone lines up in front of Prunella's house so they can ask the Cootie-Catcher a question since they can only ask one question a day. It is funny because everyone kept doing what the Cootie-Catcher said to do because they thought they would be cursed if they didn't do exactly what it said.

In the back of the book, it shows you how to make a Cootie-Catcher. This is a really great book!

A can't miss Arthur book!
"Arthur and the Cootie-Catcher" is a book that I'm more than sure kids will love. It has an exciting storyline, and I like how Marc Brown was smart to put in the instructions. There were too amy good parts, so I can't say which part's my favorite. Either way, I highly recommend that everyone should read this.

I didn't like the ending at all.
This was the first Arthur Book I bought for my four year old daughter...who very strongly believes in Santa .As I was nearing the end of this book while reading it to her, I realized where we were going withthe ending.I understand if your target age is ten years old or so andthey are doubtful, but I had to explain to my daughter after we finishedthe book why Santa didn't eat the stuff that Arthur had worked so hard on,and why the sister got rid of it all. I bought this book at a school bookfair, and I was really looking forward to introducing her to Arthur Books. Now, I can't say that I'll ever buy another one.
