5-0 out of 5 stars A great book that sparks little imaginations...
I bought this for my daughter (Peggy is her Kindergarden teacher) thinking that it would be fun for her to have a book written by her teacher - and we ended up with a great book. Written in the first person, it puts childern in the role of an astronaut, with wonderfull illustrations that detail how their spaceship might work, or what their mars base might be like. The book is playful enough to grab and hold my daughter's attention in this wonderful fantasy, but filled with enough science and fact to send her mind racing with surprising questions about what it's like "out there..." Really a great book to teach true science in a fun way. Outstanding.

5-0 out of 5 stars Preschool Applauds Lash's Touchdown Mars
When I first looked at the vocabulary of Peggy Wethered's Touchdown Mars I felt it would be over my 3-4-5-year olds' heads. But when I introduced the book and began to read, the children moved in for closer looks. They followed the abc's from Earth to Mars with keen interest. They talked among themselves between letters, pointed to things they recognized, laughing and playing with the words they were hearing. It was a wonderful experience and I congratulate Putnam Publishing Company for a real coup in producing Mrs. Wethered's work for all ages. ... Read more

We just received Flight (Make it Work!) in the mail and promptly started on a project! We are homeschoolers and always looking for fun ways to learn. This book really impressed me. The projects are colorful and interesting, and captured my children's interest immediately. As I write my 9 year old son is making the cannon - page 12. Now that is high praise!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, readable book for curious young children
This book does an excellent job explaining to young children why it gets dark at night, why there are seasons, and similar information. It is more of a picture-book than an encyclopedia, presented at a pace appropriate for reading aloud. My three year old learned the pattern of days, months, years and seasons from the book, and wants to read it over and over.

I wish more science books for young children were written this way! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Big Bang Book
This book is the best synopsis of the Big Bang I have found yet to date. It is accurate with respect to recent understandings of the creation, history and future of the universe. It is intended as a children's book, but I believe it is really an adult book. It requires some knowledge and previous studying of the topic to fully comprehend its content. I have tried to read it to 8 and 12 year old children, but it is beyond their capabilities. This book puts in a graphical way, the information that is so much of the time only mental constructs. I love the illustrations and how they allow my mind to expand, trying to comprehend the magnitude of this topic. I compare this book with Steven Hawking's Universe video program in it's information and production quality, but it takes a much shorter time to get through, and you can spend time studying a particular page until you understand all that is there. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in studying the subject. ... Read more
