Book Description

In this chilling futuristic novel, four men and women attempt an escape to legendary Avalon after "the Movement" threatens the liberty and comforts they have taken for granted. Visa for Avalon takes place in an unnamed country and an unnamed time. In it, Bryher uses her knowledge of history and psychology to examine the eruption of a political crisis in a surprisingly familiar setting. First published in 1965, it resonates profoundly in the U.S. in 2004. The style is understated and tense as Bryher subtly suggests that closing our eyes to growing restrictions and loss of liberties does not protect us. And she offers a provocative commentary about the "paradise" of King Arthur's legendary Avalon, as well. This is a wake-up book that will encourage readers of all ages and backgrounds to defend democracy and get out and vote.

". . . An enchantment-a journey and warning into the future . . . There is no one writing English fiction today who can say so much within a few magnificently chosen words."-Horace Gregory

Bryher (1894-1983) was born in England and spent most of her adult life in Switzerland and in London. Her numerous novels and memoirs received high critical praise during her lifetime. However, nearly all of her work has been neglected during the past thirty years. Bryher was the partner of H.D., and she was the benefactor of many writers and thinkers, from Marianne Moore to Walter Benjamin. She was deeply involved in politics, film, and psychology, as well as literature. In addition to writing prolifically, she was the publisher of Contact Publishing, Life and Letters Today, and Close Up, and she helped to support the intellectual sanctum, Shakespeare and Company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book in the Series
This is the second installment in the Avalon Quest for Magic series. In this book, Kara has decided not to use her magic for a while, when all of the sudden, a portal opens in her closet and she gets sucked into the Fairy Realms. She meets a mysterious stranger who takes her to the place where she was expected to arrive. When she is asked to demonstrate her magic, she loses control and ends up doing something to a friend. The creatures insist she find another power crystal to restore the Fairy Realms to normal. And that it is the only way to restore her friend back to normal before it's too late. In order to do this, she has to bond with a stallion made entirely of fire, which seems completely impossible. Meanwhile her friends are back at home, covering for her because of a school play that she was supposed to be in. And that's only just the beginning. All in all, it was another great book and worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best I have ever read!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Avalon rocks
great book! i loved it! i dont usually reread books because theres so many out there but when i do its usually cause i have no money or my parents wint take me to library. this book and the rest of avalon are awsome! but why is it on some of rachel roberts books it says rachel roberts and on some it says shelly roberts ? o well great book and a must read! {if u loved this book try looking up the series unicorns of balinor great books also}

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best in the Series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book is awesome! My favorite part was how each Adriane and Emily got to see what it's like in each others' shoes and how they each saw their loved magical animals again! This is one of the best in the series and everyone should read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
A great book about caring loving people who love to help. 3 mage's who have to save Avalon from all the evil in the universes. Helped by fundamentals, they have to get the baby unicorns to Avalon to got to unicorn school before it's to late. But when there horn start growing in, can they ever get them to school on time with the magic in Avalon all messed up?

4-0 out of 5 stars Second Saga in the series
Hey everyone
I personally love this series...I'm a HUGE fan of magic books.
This isnt the best out of all the books, but it is only the first in this saga. Rachel Roberts hasnt written an Avalon book for months, so when i saw it i flipped! I'm not going to tell you everything but its about The Mages (Emily the healer, Adrienne the warrior, and Kara the blazing star) finging a school of unicorns, and they arent the only ones trying to retrieve the unicorns but this other person isnt going to help them. Read the book to find out the rest!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I've always been a fan of Rachel Roberts's AvALon: Web of Magic books. Song of the Unicorns is the first book in a new AvALon series called Quest for Magic.
Emily is going to visit her father and step-mother with her two best friends, Adriana and Kara. Emily doesn't like the fact that her father's new wife is trying to make friends with her.
But Emily has hardly enough time to think about that when she finds a cave while horseback riding one day. She and her friends discover something amazing inside the cave. Tons of baby unicorns from the mythical world of Aldenmor.
The unicorns were sent to Earth by mistake and now they must be sent back to their own world before they grown too much...and before someone discovers a buch of rainbow-colored foals in the girls' cabin.
I give this book two thumbs way up and am looking forward to the next book, All's Fairy in Love and War. ... Read more

Book Description

It has been fortold: In the hour of Britain's greatest need, King Arthur will return to rescue his people.

In Portugal, the reprobate King Edward the Ninth has died by his own hand.

In England, a dark scenario conceived by the power-hungry Prime Minister, Thomas Waring, is about to be realized: the total destruction of the British monarchy in the twenty-first century.

And in the Scottish Highlands, a mystical emissary named Mr. Embries--better known as "Merlin"--informs a young captain that he is next in line to occupy the throne. For James Arthur Stuart is not the commoner he has always believed himself to be--he is Arthur, the legendary King of Summer, reborn. But the road to England's salvation is rocky and dangerous, with powerful waiting to ambush: Waring and his ruthless political machine...and the agents of an ancient, far more potent evil. For Arthur is not the only one who has returned from the mists of legend. And Merlin's magic is not the only sorcery that has survived the centuries.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very intelligent approach to a eye-misting dream
I've never read Lawhead before, but will now, and had enjoyed lighter treatments of the theme of Arthur's return, i.e. "The Forever King" and "The Broken Sword" or "Arthur King" or a couple of mid-90's novels that did put modern folks with chivalric dreams in the bodies of authentic, cruder Arthurian court figures. Lawhead has avoided most of the potential whimsy, grappling with thinking through how such an extravagant idea could work in a complex, modern England. The contrast between the wasted opportunities of Britain's royalty since Queen Victoria and what a leader could do was particularly powerful and pounded home so a deaf man could hear it. The characters are well done, the plot moves along modern political thriller lines instead of a few whacks from the Caliburn blade to resolve things, and there is a lot of long reflection obvious in the entire book. If you enjoy the many interpretations of Arthur, you'll enjoy this as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bravo! Mr. Lawhead! You do the impossible.
Well, I hoped to write the first review, but Donovan beat me to it. I will merely add to his accurate praises. Avalon arrived on Thursday, I started reading it Friday and just finished it now late Saturday night. It is a page turner. I was reading my way through the last three books of the Pendragon Cycle before I actually read Avalon. However, I could not resist that beautiful new book sitting unread on the bookshelf. So, I set down Arthur right before a tremendous battle against Balduf and picked up Avalon. I would say that Avalon contains some of the wittiest and most gripping dialogue I have ever read. The characters leapt to life, familiar yet changed in their modern setting. I was terribly scared that Lawhead had over reached himself when I heard that this was a modern King Arthur fable. Lawhead exceeded my expectations for this story and pulls it off with great aplomb and heart. I definitely enjoyed the book more because of my prior reading of his Pendragon Cycle.

Please read this book and let your heart soar! My intial reading rates it at 4 stars, one of Lawhead's best, easily the best since Byzantium, but upon further readings, I may strike again with another review with a higher rating.

2-0 out of 5 stars The premise enticed me, but . . .
As someone who has been fascinated with the history, symbolism, and ritual of the British monarchy, the premise of Avalon captured my attention, but ultimately, I found it a bit disappointing. Lawhead is dealing with interesting issues, but doesn't develop them in a very compelling way and spends to many words describing things that don't matter much overall. I sensed that much of what fascinates Lawhead about British national identity also fascinates me, but I never got the impression that his knowledge of British history, or of issues in contemporary British culture, was that extensive.

Obviously, the figure of Arthur represents an ideal, and it would have been interesting to see more of the drama of recorded British history somehow woven into the narrative of legendary Arthur coming back to the 21st Century. I was left wondering what figures (royal or otherwise) in British history aroused the author's admiration in terms of standing in the tradition of inspired leadership idealized by Arthur. Given the surname of the main character and a couple of other statements, one gets the impression that Lawhead believes that the royal succession in Britain took a wrong turn with the transition from the House of Stuart to the House of Hanover. However, this does not demonstrate any appreciation for the fact that the personal character traits and positive public perceptions of monarchs like George III, Victoria (and her consort Prince Albert), George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II have helped the monarchy to survive to this day. Even though they do not bear the name of Stuart, those monarchs do descend from King James I. Also, does Lawhead see good things in the development of parliametary democracy?

Lawhead doesn't really effectively argue the case for constitutional monarchy so much as he argues for inspired leadership. He implies that the new Arthur represented in James Stuart is going to exercise more political clout than present monarchs, but in this age of democracy, how would that be accepted and what would it look like? How would a religiously pluralistic culture influenced by secular humanism react to the unabashedly Christian coronation ceremony depicted near the book's end? Also, just how far into the 21st Century is the story set? How has E.U. developed? Is the United Kingdom still united?

Historical and cultural issues aside, the main characters suffer from a lack of development. It would have been interesting to see James Stuart struggle with real human weaknesses and how his professed Christian faith gives him hope and perseverence. As someone else noted, Prime Minister Waring is a cardboard villain who is not a formidable antagonist.

So once again, exploring the ideal of Christian kingship in the setting of 21st Century Britain presents compelling ideas, but as someone noted, Avalon is not up to the literary level of a work by C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien. If the premise of this novel interested you, I would recommend the non-fiction books "The Abolition of Britain: From Winston Churchill to Princess Diana," by Peter Hitchens, and "God Save the Queen: The Spiritual Dimension of Monarchy" by Ian Bradley.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
As much as I enjoyed all of Lawheads other Arthurian books, I was left with the feeling that he simply turned this one out too quickly. While the beginning of the book caught my intrest, and kept me reading, as I went along, I began to feel that I was in the middle of a daytime soap opera. The characters were shallow, the situations increasing unbelievable, and the plot ground to a halt about 100 pages before the book did. The ending left me completely flat, and disappointed. There were too many things left unanswered. Why did Waring have such a vituperative hatered of the monarchy, and what happened to him? Such people do not just disappear. Where was the great evil of Morgian-Moira, she was a bit of a joke. And why mention the Lia Fail, and then no more about it again? Merlin was underutilized, no great shakes came from his character at all. James and Jenny were too good to be true, and while you can't help liking them, they were not well developed as real humans, with real human failings. And come on, beaten, stabbed, bitten by pit bulls, twice, save the baby, and a bit of antiseptic and a tetnus shot, and back on the road? Pu-leeze. Not to mention shot, and burned. The only thing left out was a good hanging, maybe that will be in the next book. And where was Excalibur? A central part of the legend forgotten. A king without a sword and all that.
Altogether, I think if Mr. Lawhead had taken more time, added another 100 pages or so, worked the plot to the end, and remembered the background he so magically created for Taliesin - Grail, this could have been a wonderful way to bring the story into modern times. But, it fell flat and failed to deliver the magic of the previous books. I have re-read all the other books at least 4 times, this one will sit on the bottom shelf with the dust bunnies.

2-0 out of 5 stars Predictable, bland and full of cliches...
I was very disappointed in this book.
Let me start by saying that I have a strong interest in British history, and after reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon", I was anxious to continue on to other titles.
This book raises an interesting premise-what if the legendary King Arthur returned? Unfortunately, I found this book to have one-dimensional characters, plot resolutions I could see coming from a mile away and utterly unconvincing situations.
The book focuses on James Arthur Stuart, a man who is told by the reincarnated Merlin that he is in fact King Arthur. James holds a strong affection for Jenny (who later is revealed to be a major link in the story) and enjoys a close friendship with childhood companion Cal. Once James is told by modern-day Merlin that he is Great Britain's rightful King, James decided to claim the throne, much to the disgust of Prime Minister Waring, who is behind the recent abolition of the monarchy. He is determined that James (aka Arthur)will never take the throne.
This is the plotline, in a nutshell. The story, alas, is ruined by several things.
1. The characters are stereotypical, cardboard cutouts...no real personality is shown or motivation explained. PM Waring may as well have horns and a tail.(You can tell because he swears a lot) Jenny, James' girlfriend, is, of course, perfect in looks and manner. And James himself is handsome, brave, smart, honest, loving, sincere AND almost singlehandedly takes down a group of Neo-Nazis with pitbulls! Puh-LEEZE.
2. The author is obviously very pro-monarchy...or at least, very anti-politician (not to mention, rabidly anti-journalist). I would almost argue that he has some sort of axe to grind. There are several moments in the book where James/Arthur defends his claim to the throne by saying that the Monarchy was established by God, and besides, Parliament has done an awful job anyway. I know it's just a work of fiction, but there is no sincere discussion in this book of why Britain may be genuinely better off without the monarchy. One passage, where James/Arthur pompously tells the demonized Prime Minister that he is there in office purely out of James/Arthur's kindness is particularly offputting. I frankly found none of the major characters to be particularly likeable or interesting.
3. There are better writers in this genre...and yes, I do mean Marion Zimmer Bradley, to mention one. She writes extensively on early England/Britain with a complexity and clarity that Lawhead doesn't.

Basically, I was disappointed that I bought this book. I can see this being the basis for a "straight-to-DVD" movie, starring obscure B actors. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Series Ever!
This book was awesome! Like some others, I thought Harry Potter was the best, untill I read this book. It is a wonderful story that shows friendship, adventure, suspense, and magic. Emily just moved to Stonehill and is shy and kind, but doesn't have any friends. Adrienne is the loner and independent one and travels a lot( Her parents are artists). Kara is the snobby, spoiled, and popular one. They have almost nothing in common, except magic.
The story's plot is when a monster from another world comes to earth and poisons all the magical animals who live there. Emily has healing powers and has to help them with the help of Phel, a wonderful and magical creature. Emily, Adrienne, and Kara have to put away their diferences and work together to fight the monster with some help from the magical animals and Ozzie, an adventerous elf who is stuck in a ferrets' body. A fantastic book for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first book in an enchanting new fantasy series.
After her parents divorced, twelve-year-old Emily left her Colorado home to move to a small Pennsylvania town with her mother. Pennsylvania is so different from the western mountains, where she had lived her entire life. Emily has no friends in her new town and spends her days helping her mother, a veterinarian, at their kennel and animal hospital. A horribly wounded animal with strange burns is brought to Emily's mother by a sullen, unfriendly girl who lives in the woods at an old animal preserve. While walking the dogs at the kennel, Emily stumbles upon the preserve, and a magical glade full of beautiful plants and animals. She also meets the girl, Adriane, and discovers she's not so bad after all. They meet a talking ferret named Ozzie who has come to this world to find the three humans who can help save the creatures of his world. Unfortunately, it seems as if the third human may be the mayor's snobby daughter, Kara. Emily and Adriane will have to put their dislike of Kara aside to save this magical place. This was the first book in an enchanting new fantasy series. I can't wait to read the next book once it is released.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well...
Circles in the Stream was a very good book, but not that great. It really seems that the author took a lot of ideas from the Tolkien books and Harry Potter. Overall, its worth buying if you are looking for a good fantasy book. I just don't think that kids who have read the Fellowship series and the Harry Potters will enjoy it that much. As a child myself, I thought that I could do much better not knowing about it and sticking to the other fantasy stories. If your child is 9-11, and needs a new fantasy book in their hands, this one is for you. Buy it on Amazon today!

4-0 out of 5 stars A COMPELLING FANTASY ADVENTURE
Raachel Roberts scores another hit with this compelling fantasy adventure.

Three girls, not the least bit alike, are all drawn to a secret place deep in the woods. First, there is Emily whose parents have divorced prompting a move for Emily and her Mom form home in Colorado to a small town in Pennsylvania. New school, new kids, new everything. Yuck!

Her Mom is a vet and Emily enjoys helping in the animal hospital. Then one day a badly burned animal that resembles a cat is brought in. Emily is afraid because she has never seen an animal so dreadfully injured nor has she ever seen an animal that looked like this. Most astounding of all: she believes the animal spoke.

Puzzled and uncertain, Emily goes to the wildlife preserve where the animal was found in the hope of finding some answers. Once there she finds astounding animals, all peaceful but searching. She also meets Ariadne who is shunned by the other kids because she lives in the preserve with her grandmother and is considered strange. The two girls join forces, determined to help these beautiful creatures.

However, an unknown evil follows the pair. And, they discover they have been selected to be rescuers, that three girls are intended to save the animals. Who can the other girls be?

Lots of surprises in store

3-0 out of 5 stars So-So
With Haynes and Chilton's, you pretty much get what you pay, although in my opinion you get a little bit more from hayens than chiltons...but that's another topic. as far as manuals go, you're always better off with the 3 volumes of the toyota factory manuals ... for the three volumes-but are much better quality than these other two manuals. as far as this manual goes, it's not bad, there's some good information (that is if you care about dismantling your entire engine block and suspension/struts/shocks the whole 360) as far as simple things like knowing which wires to replace your speakers with, or tearing out the door panel to grant access to a window driver cable...this book is a little iffy. not great photos by any means, all b&w. this book is dominated by photos for the more mechanically inclined tasks, with only one section reserved for the actual interior of the car itself. it's not a bad manual, even still the mechanical instructions are not that great themselves, but still...it's better than nothing. I'd recommend these to any DIY person, you gain a little insight into the inner-workings of your car and how they're put together-but NOT how they work. for ex: I would like to DIY install an anti-roll bar for my suspension for my camry, this book doesn't venture into how to install after-market parts, or even how the original OEM parts all work together, JUST how to disassemble and reassmeble the car's OEM parts.
overall: 3.5 really, but you're better off with the toyota factory manuals (the same manuals your mechanic uses).

5-0 out of 5 stars Well organized and written
Well organized and plenty of diagrams and specifications. Great for the hobbyist mechanic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book on the 92-96 series Camry
Perfect book for general through advanced auto repair on the Camry. Relevant information on this series of Camry. I am very satisfied with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars avalon - the Saga of Merewyn
This is a wonderful, romantic tale, almost a saga. Though the main character is fictional, the story itself is set in an interesting historical period and the details are accurate.

Merewyn leaves Cornwall at fifteen, after the death of her mother. She travels into England in the company of Rumon, who is the historical figure Romieux de Provence, shipwrecked on the Cornish coast. Merewyn works for some time at England's royal court and then stays at a nunnery, following the assassination of one unfortunate English king. Fate intervenes dramatically with her life when she has to return to Cornwall after the death of the Abbess of her convent.

Anya Seton has woven a charming story around the figure of Rumon, a Cornish saint. Merewyn believes herself descended from the ancient, royal line of King Arthur. This is a sustaining myth in her life. Merewyn's actual parentage is far less romantic and has to do with Viking raids on the Cornish coast.

The story of the star-crossed love of Merewyn and Rumon is just one strand of this story. England in the tenth century was subject to periodic invasion from the Norsemen - this is a major part of the plot, which is romantic yet plausible. Merewyn does a great deal of travelling both planned and unexpected, to find her real identity.

I first read this novel many years ago, and have since read it many times. I warmly recommend it to new readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL Anya Setons books
I was reading comments about Anya Seton's books, and there was one I had to heartily agree with.... to please have Seton's books printed again... as gift box sets, what a wonderful idea! She is one author who truly brings to life characters and the era, I find they haunt me. I read "Katherine" 33 years ago, I plan on re-reading that and probably others. She is a special author - please bring those books back!

5-0 out of 5 stars Avalon by Anya Seton
I read Avalon about six years ago, when I was sixteen. My mother read it twenty-seven years ago, about five years before I was born. That's how I came to be named Merewyn. I hated my name until I read Avalon. Merewyn is a cool character, and now I'm proud to be named Merewyn.

This book was amazing it enchanted me right from the start. There was never a time when i was bored, the story of a poor little cornish girl who doesn't know her own background is very moving in places and even funny sometimes, as Merewyn and Rumon search for thier love. Its a spectacular book and i don't understand why it is out of print. i'm just glad i got to it before it went out of print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reissue Anya Seton's Novels!
Just wanted to add my two cents... why doesn't some publisher reissue all of Anya Seton's novels? A couple of boxed sets would be nice... These are romances for thinking people -- well written, historically accurate, gripping, memorble. I would love to buy a set. I originally read library copies many years ago. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book Rocks!
I had to read a book for a reading project in school. I choose to read The Secret of the Unicorn(Avalon Web of Magic,4). I started to read the book and got really into it! I loved how Emily and the Unicorn had a magical conection! It was really tuching when Emily wouldn't give up the Unicorn! I love this book and recomend it to anyone who loves books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Avalon is a great series!
This book is terrific! It was so sweet how Emily wouldnt give up on the unicorn. And it was sweet how Lorielie and Emily bonded.Avalon is a great series! Ozzieis so wierd, but fits in great. It was cool that Emily had a pet palace! Avalon web of magic the series ROCKS!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, lot's of information gained!
I absouloutly love this series. The plot is intricate and always ineresting and funny. Although I cannot really pick a favorite of the three main characters, Emily has a number of strange likeneses to me, so I really liked that this book was mostly about her. Also, I love the parts of books where you learn a lot about the world in which they take place, (or just the premise in this case, they are generally on the same world)so what you learn in the end about Lorli's species (that was purposly vauge so as not to give any spoilers, I don't mean that Lorili turns out to be a girraffe or something.:)) was one of my favorite parts. Overall a very intiguing addition to a great series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good if you like Emily
I was reading the reviews on how other people liked it, but it didn't strike me as "wonderful". However, I did enjoy it.

I can't explain what, but it was just missing something. Maybe it's because I just finished Cry of the Wolf. I did like most of it, no need to be alarmed. It really streched out the friendship between Lorelli and Emily. What I don't understand is why Emily doesn't have a magic animal. I mean Ozzie is kind of like his own person, if you know what I mean.

It was a very sweet and touching story, and I found the Nexus part the most interesting. Emily fans will probably love it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story and I like Emily, I just think there might have been to much "bonding" in it. I gave it four stars because I didn't really like the beginning, but the ending made up for that.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the series
Ihave read all of the avalon books that have came out and this is probably my favorite. One reason is that the character that it mainly focuses on is my favorite character. it talks about Emily Fletcherk and how she and the rest of her group finds and saves a unicorn named Loraleigh. It's realy exiting and is full of adventure and comody. Not to mention it has a great story line. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All That Glitters
All that glitters is a great book for all ages. There are some large words that younger kids (9 and below) might not understand. But, if the story is read aloud to them, you can tell them what the words mean. The characters from the first book are in this book. But unlike the first book, which was about all three of the girls,(Emily, Adriane, Kara)this one was more focused on Kara. In the beginning of the book, Kara is missing her pink sweater and school starts the next day. Kara soon finds out that she is being stalked by banshees and thinks that she's being stalked by the leopard spotted cat (from the first book). Kara is very jealous of Emily and Adriane. They have magical stones and she doesn't. Later she finds her own stone and all heck breaks loose. Kara can hardley control the power of her own stone. Water fariementals contact her and try to tell her of danger. I've read the book, but for those who haven't, I won't spoil the ending for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars All That Glitters
This book was GREAT! Emily is still my favorite, than Kara, than Adrianne. Having another book in the series that focouses on another girl changes what I see in them (My fovorites used to be Emily, Adrienne, Kara). It shows Kara and Adrienne fighting a lot, and Emily is still the peacemaker. Kara FINALLY finds a jem (a unicorn jewel), but that's when the trouble starts. Minature Dragons start popping up and adoring Kara, Banshee's try to take the jewel, and fry Kara's hair, but her magic turns it RAINBOW instead. And water faeriementals warn of danger. Plus, you see Kara torn between her friends Tiffany, Heather, and Molly and Ravenswod. But that's not all! Kara bonds with a magical cat named Lyra, and has a dangerous encounter with the Dark Sorceress herself....

5-0 out of 5 stars Karas Personality
If you read the first book and shudder whenever the name Kara is mentioned, you might rethink that after reading this book.

In the first book it focused manily on Emily, while in this book it focuses on Kara. You don't find out what Karas magic is yet (You do in Book 6), but you might find a newfound respect for her after the book is over. Ok, maybe not. But you'll probably at least like her a LITTLE bit more. And the dragonflies were so cute! I can't see how anyone can think of them as annoying. Plus, you get to see some "new" characters, which includes Lyra(The cat from book 1),the Dark Sorceress, the dragonflies, and the unicorn which makes a reapearence in book 6

The reason I gave it 5 stars was because it shows Kara developing her personality more then just a shallow brat. It's more action-like then the first one, so hurry up and read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars so magical
It was so awesome I think everyone will like it. Everyone will like it because of the adventures and creatures and amazment that is told. Its understandable and unpredictable, and it feels like your really there.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the story!!
All that glittes is such a cool book! At the begining Kara was such a jerk, but then she gets nicer. The unicorn jewel is so cool. And her hair was so trippy! I am collecting all the books! I recommend this book/series to anyone who loves magical books! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Road to Avalon
I have been reading Arthurian books for years, and when i found this book "years ago" i loved it above all others. Today, i finished it for the 3rd time, and after reading it i feel as close to the charaters as if i was there in real life. all i need to do is think about the last line in the book and i cry. Thank you Joan for making this wonderful book come to life in all the glory and pain of the dark ages. and for all those out there who fell in love with Arthur and Morgan, remember to smell the Lavander.......

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Best King Arthur Story !
I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful book. It is just too bad that it is out of print. I sincerely hope that some publisher would re-release this jewel of a book to the public again.

Out of all of the King Arthur stories that I have read, this is the one that really gets me emotionally involved with the characters. This is no usual Arthurian where there is magic and the battle between the good and evil. It is so much more realistic and the scenes are so vivid that you really feel that this could have happened in history.

Not only are the war scenes and the relationships between the characters memoreable- the love story between Morgan and Arthur is heart wrenching.

I really hope that somehow this story gets more attention. It truely deserves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars best of the best
I noticed this book in my school library, and I was itching for some King Arthur stories, so I picked it up... and I was blown away. Joan Wolf certainly knows how to weave her tales seamlessly... it's the best King Arthur book I've ever read. The novel is full of adventure, chivalry, passion, and more... all the components of a really good novel. I've read it twice, and I'll definitely re-read it again sometime.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I have ever read.
This ranks right up there with The Hobbit. In fact it is the only book I can honestly say I enjoyed as much as I enjoyed the Hobbit. Joan Wolf captures the spirit of Authur completely with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It made me Cry!
I love a story that can make me cry. Arthur and Morgan's touching love was so heartbreaking. You realize just how easy it is to screw up your life. Also, I was pleased to find a romance of Arthur and Morgan because always felt they were the ones who should be together. I never liked Gwenhwyfar. I loved Arthur and Morgan! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars YAY!!!
For those of you who gave this book a bad review, I believe you are wrong. Kara is not a brat. In fact, she is my favorite charactor. After she got into the problem, she couldn't stop. She had no control. So you should cut her some slack. Kara, in this book, does not understand her part in all this. She doesn't know what she was meant to do. I found it fun to read as she made her way to her destiny in the next three books.
PS*If you do end up reading "Trial be Fire", or the next series, you will see she makes up for her mistakes-and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars More like four and a half stars
I liked this book, though the way Kara acts is not good at all. However I would like to offer a little defense to it. Kara is not entirely under her own control when she does those things. Also, I noticed some people complain that they sang about Avalon. The whole town sang that song; it was already a hit, so it's not Emily, Adriane, and Kara's fault that they happend to be involved in what it mentioned. A few people I know thought they found plot errors, but these are all shown to be non-errors in the next book. I liked the power music has in this book, especially at the climax. Overall, not the best in the series, but still a fun read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Spellsinger's Mishaps
the book wasn't exactly my taste. I've always liked Adriane.(I guess "like" isn't exactly right. I guess obsessed would do it.) But Kara and Adriane leared to like each other and trust each other.I noticed that Emily wasn't in the book a lot, either. Nor the animals of Ravenswood.

5-0 out of 5 stars if any of u rated it below a 5 stars ur wrong
dont mean to be rude but just because one of the many of avalon books out is Bad dosnt mean the whole thing is and besides if it wernt for this book being the way it is none would be as good! u know im right on that! besides if theres one seed bump on the way to best {although it already is} your just going to stop reading.bad idea cause they keep gettin better from here!

3-0 out of 5 stars not what i expected...
so it was an okay book. I never liked Kara anyway. Adriane was always my favorite. Kara is such a brat. This book was not what I expected it to be. The plot was okay, but I expected a much better plot. If you enjoyed the other books in this series, you'll be quite disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars cry of the wolf is tight!
This was my absolute favorite book of the series. Adriane is my favorie character of the girls.I love wolves, my walls are filled with pictures, Stormbringer is so cool. She is the best animal. I am still confused about what magical creature was Scorge? If anyone found that out e-mal me. Anyway,it was sad when Zachs best friend dies, I felt so bad. It was funny at the begining how Adriane thout that the egg was a dirty rock. The dragon sounded so cute! The tree house that Zach had was cool,I hope they make the series movies, I would buy all of them! So, the characters were so cool in every book, I can not wat to read#5 and #6! This is the best series. And the ending is so sweet. If I could I would give 10 stars to the whole series!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Yet!
If you have read the other Avalon books, you'd know the drift of the story but this is like the best book in the series! It is definetly the most interesting and I love it! It is written well and it made me get watery eyes when Adriane is getting attacked...It is the best because it is about Adriane and Storm and they are my faves!
-=Bye!
(Be sure to read my review on 'The Sight' By David David Clement-Davies!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Good!! Nicely written!
Well, it was the first out of the whole series that I red.

Adrianne is my favorite charecter out of the whole clan. I LOVE stormbringer and the mistwolves. It is a more dramatized plot. Whenever the book has been told by kara's point of veiw, it was not very great. And most of the books are based on her life! This one I was happy about because it was adrianne and Stormbringer flying solo. (Well, for an acception of Zach and the Drake.)

Don't you Adrianne fans think there should be more books based on her and not Kara?

5-0 out of 5 stars A satisfying read!
This is the first Avalon book that I've read so far and I am suprised to see a book from the series that I really wasnt confused when i read them out of order, but it has, it has. This book makes ordinary magic look pale and faded and with spicy new characters, makes this book a thrilling ride! Note: Heroic Mistwoves, a lone teenage boy with secrets that he will take to the grave, a magical egg and medievil events. Trust me, this book shall not be missed!

5-0 out of 5 stars 100 stars
