5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! You can't put this book down until you are done.
Kristy watches as her mother places several calls to try to find a sitter for her brother, David Michael. She sees how troublesome it must be, and how upset David Michael seems for causing all this trouble. Then, it comes to her in a flash! Her best idea ever! The Baby-sitters Club! A few days later, Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Claudia's new friend Stacey, are waiting eagerly for their first call. At 5:30 exactly, Kristy's mother call for a sitter for David Michael. Stacey gets the job. Then, Kristy gets a job with new clients. The children are Pinky and Buffy. They are both two. When Kristy goes to her job, she is shocked to find out that Pinky and Buffy are St. Bernard dogs. She has an awlful time. Stacey, on the other hand, has a great time playing Candyland with David Michael and Sam. Sam is Kristy's 14 year-old brother, and Stacey has a crush on him. The Baby-sitters Club does not seem to be off to a good start. Kristy's pet-sitting job, Sam keeps calling crank phone calls, and Stacey has a secret that she will not tell.

5-0 out of 5 stars It All Started With Kristy's Great Idea
While watching her mother struggle to find a baby-sitter one evening, Kristy Thomas comes up with an incredible idea to start a baby-sitting club, so people like her mom won't have so much trouble locating a decent sitter. First, Kristy has to organize the members: Mary Anne Spier, her best friend; Claudia Kishi, a fellow classmate at Stoneybrook Middle School; and Claudia's new friend, Stacey McGill. Second, they advertise in the local newspaper and distribute fliers. Now all they have to do is wait for the calls.

On their first meeting day, all four baby-sitters miraculously receive jobs for the week. Stacey baby-sits for Kristy's younger brother, David Michael, and falls for Kristy's older brother, Sam. Kristy unknowingly takes a job for two Saint Bernards, Buffy and Pinky. Mary Anne saves Kristy from the dreaded job of baby-sitting her soon-to-be stepbrother and sister, Andrew and Karen. And Claudia, unfortunately, gets the worst job of all: baby-sitting four rambunctious kids when she had been told it would be only one (mellow) child.

Despite the uncertain outcomes of their jobs, everybody in the club considers Kristy's idea a success. They're making plenty of money and doing what they do best: baby-sit.

This is a great series for 8 to 12-year-old girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kristy's Great Idea
Kristy Thomas starts a baby sitting club. She wants her friends Mary Anne Spier and Claudia Kishi to be in the club. Claudia tells them about a new girl named Stacey McGill that could join. She does. Kristy gets a strange phone call at one of the meetins for someone to come and baby sit two kids - but when she gets there, it's two dogs! And they act awful! Stacey acts strange. To find out why, read the book. I've read this from the library, the school library, and now I have it. I have an older one, but now they have better pictures on the cover and pictures and fill in pages, but mine doesn't have that. To tell which ones are the newer ones, they have pictures of all four girls around the side of the book. I think if you buy it here you get the newer one. I've read these so much I can read them in a day! I'm trying to read ten for summer reading, and I've read five already! And it's only been four days since summer reading started!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good
This is the first book in the Baby-sitters club series. Twelve-year-old Kristy Thomas is the main character. When her mother had a hard time finding a baby sitter for her brother, Kristy thought of a very good idea. She thought up a plan to start a baby-sitting club, and three other girls joined.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ann's Great Idea
The first in a series I recommend!Bsc is a fantastic series with lots going on and plenty characters coming and going. It could never be boring.Ann Martin will become a role model to me as I try to forge my path in writing....There is a problem though. The same things about the club will be explained at the start of every book in the same detail each time.Like,do you think that maybe Kristy once saw her mother on the phone trying to get a sitter for little David and then thought wouldn't it be great if mothers could ring up and speak to lots of sitters and then she got the idea of the Babysitters Club..???????You will be told all about this in almost every book!!But really should I complain??Put up with that repetition and ,honestly, it's a terrific series, and you'll always wonder what will happen next. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Competition is in town!
The Truth About Stacey is a really good book. I have it and I read it very, very, very often. This book is about when competition comes to town. I just love books with competition. The BSC discovers another group of older baby-sitters that can stay out later than they do, and have lots and lots of choices for you to chose from. Stacey's parents are kind of a problem too. Their number one mission in life--help Stacey, has gotten way out of hand. They believe that there is a cure for Stacey's diaease and they praticaly drag her to every doctor in America. Stacey is sure that she can prove two things to everyone: One, the BSC is a better survice then the other group of baby-sitters, and two, she can take care of herself and that she already has the best help that she can get for her disease. Now, all she has to do is prove them. How? Read this exciting book and join them to discover the answers!

I've read the book, The Truth About Stacey, and I love it! There are two problems. The BSC are competing with another groups of babysitters who are older and can stay out later. (However, their not the best babysitters around.) And two: Stacey's parents are too overprotective about Stacey's diabeties and they practically drag her to every doctor in America, in hope of finding a cure. Stacey's got to prove two things. One: The BSC give better service than the other club, and two: she can take care of herself very well, and is already getting plenty of help. The ending? Read and find out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!
I loved this book! It was so realistic, and I have nothing bad to say about it. It is about this girl named Mary Anne who gets in a fight with the BSC and has trouble making up with them. Then she meets a new friend Dawn. Then a girl Jenny she was baby sitting for gets so sick that something drastic had to happen envolving Mary Anne and Dawn. If you want to know more, (which is what I'm trying to make you) read this book! I would reccomend this to all girls!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book
I read this over ten yrs ago and recently re-read it and still enjoy it. Although it is hard to get into initially and the beginning sort of dragged on (my friend Amber loaned it to me when we were in 5th grade and I don't think I got past chapter 1. I had never read BSC books until then so I didn't find the intro. boring, however. I think that the BSC is too judgemental towards each other. They think Mary Anne is immature but she was the one who wanted reconciliation after their dumb fight, and Kristy was the most difficult. Talk about immature! Also it was unprofessional the way they refuse to at least meet for the club and not function. Mary anne was the mature one in that respect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way to Go Mary Anne!
She proves she's the strongest babysitter in the club in this book and many others. Although she's shy, she has a good head on her shoulders and has a lot of strength. This is a wonderful book that teaches about responsibility, but it's also fun to read. And the arguments that the babysitters have with each other are so funny and lame!

5-0 out of 5 stars The first Babysittes Club book I read
I'm 28 years old, and I recently moved. While cleaning out my house to pack for the move, I ran across a box of Babysitters Club books that I read when I was younger. I had forgotten about those since I hadn't read them in many years. I was 13 when my dad bought Mary Anne Saves the Day for me at the local grocery store. He said I could get a book and that one caught my eye. I read it when I got home, and I was hooked. Since then, I bought books 1-3, and then each book after that every month when it came out. I was 18 when I stopped reading them. I felt I had outgrown them. When I recently found those books, I reread them all, starting with Mary Anne Saves the Day. It brought back a lot of memories, and I am now collecting them all again for my own daughter, if I ever have one.

Mary Anne Saves the Day is about a shy 12 year old girl who lives with her single father, who is very strict when it comes to raising her. She belongs to a great group of friends who run a business called The Babysitters Club. During one of her jobs, a little girl grows ill while in her care, and Mary Anne must use quick thinking to get the child to the hospital.

These are wonderful books for children. It's a shame Ann M. Martin is no longer writing them, but they will be always cherished

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is excellent!!!!
Mallory has had a tough time fitting in at school lately, so she decides to go to a boarding school, Riverbend Hall. She quickly makes friends and loves her classes and teachers, but she hasn't planned on Alexis, her roomate, taking over the room, ruining her things, and reading her private journal. Will Mallory and Alexis work things out? This is one of my favorite BSC books, and I've read tons! The change of scenery is something new and exciting. A really good book-READ IT!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hello Riverbend!
In "The All New Mallory Pike" Mallory finds that boarding school is harder than she thought. Who could have counted on mean roomates that read your journals and destroy your things? But hey, there are good aspects about boarding school too. Such as her new found friends Sarah and Smita. By the end of this book Mallory is sure (and so am I)that she has made the right desision.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mallory used to be tough
Hey y'all remember back in "Poor Mallory" when she told off the snobby girls in the lunchroom cafeteria for gossiping about her father? And she totally stood up to that Mr. Cobb in "Don't Give Up, Mallory" for favoring the boys in their lit class. She USED to be a tough cookie and rolled with the punches and was smart and sharp. Now, she can't take it anymore, and decides to go to boarding school? What IS that? Not the Mallory Pike I knew!

Stonybrook will miss you Mallory! Who will babysit your brothers and sisters for free now? Your parents must be VERY upset.

5-0 out of 5 stars good great greatest
Mallory is having a bad time at SMS stoneybrook middle school.Well Idid not think it was good she went to a bording school.Because she left behind to many good things. But it was great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Boarding school.....here she comes!
This book is about a girl named Mallory who's going off to Boarding School. She meets two friends there. She also meets an older girl named Jen. Jen's very nice. But Mallory's roomate is not so nice. She took Mallory's earrings without asking and she ripped up the care package that Mallory's friends in the BSC (Baby-Sitters Club) sent her. Mallory then uncovers the past and finds out that because of her roomate's attitude, many kids left. Mallory dosen't want to leave, but she dosen't want her roomate around either!
I think her roomate deserves what happeneds at the end. Something that makes Mallory really happy. But that's all I'm saying. ;-) ... Read more

When Jessi baby sits for Matt Braddock, Matt is a special child. So Jessi teaches him a sign language.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Meagan's Review
Yes I did like this book because it's by one of my favorite authors and I have almost read every single book in the series.
The book was about this girl called Jessi who has just moved into a new neighborhood.Jessi Jessi has this really great group of friends called the Baby Sitters Club.Jessi gets a sitting job for this deaf boy called Matt.Matt uses sign language instead of lip reading.Jessi is going to be in a ballet show called Coppelia and Matt's mom has been making arrangements so that the 8 kids in Matt's class can go see Coppelia.Theyhave arranged for Haley to be the narrator and for Matt and Haley's mom to stand up on the stage and sign everything that Haley says so that Matt isn't left out. After the show Jessi finds out that Adle came to watch the show.Jessi's cousin Keshia is from Okley, New Jersey came to see Jessi be Swandelia. To celebrate the show being a success everybody who knows Jessi went to a restraunt to have ice cream.
    Anybody will like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Care for the deaf
A very touching and realistic story. It features a young boy named Matt who was born deaf and this family, the Braddocks, move into Stoneybrook. Putting Jessi as the main character in this Babysitter Club book is very interesting because the deaf cannot hear music and therefore, none of them had exactly went to watch a musical or a ballet concert. Jessi's a ballerina and she feels especially sympathetic towards the deaf in that very aspect.
This story touches on the sensitive areas of a deaf person's life, about being ridiculed by others, looked down and thought of as weird. However, the babysitters were intrigued by Sign Language and the other kids int he neighbourhood begin to slowly accept Matt and were fascinated with sign language.
We also find out more about the deaf in this book, we learn some sign language, we learn that it is crucial that the deaf are kept well away from busy roads as they cannot hear cars approaching. We also find out how some families are being inconsiderate in not bothering to take up sign language to communicate with their deaf family member and instead, expect him/her to lip-read instead. Lip reading is extremely difficult.
The story has a happy ending and reveals what Jessi does to make the children in the school for the deaf happy. A must-read.

4-0 out of 5 stars good
i'm taking ASL in school and i was looking on my books shelf and found this book and i decided to re-read it.its really good.the only thing that bugs me is that on the cover jessie is using see sign when the book said it was ASL.it doesn't matter to much though.it is a really good book and shows how people who may seem diffrent at first glance can have a lot ion common with you.i hope you enjoy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome...
This book was great! Jessi gets the baby sitting job of watching a little deaf boy, Matt. She learns sign language (his "secret language) and gets to know him better. She even explains to the neighborhood kids that he's not weird, he's cool, because he's got his own language. Pretty soon ,all the kids learn something in sign language, and he has plently offriends. I really enjoyed this book, and I'm sure anyone else would too. :] ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
Mary Anne discovers that Jenny, a four-year-old that she is babysitting for, is starting to act prissy and trying to be perfect. Mary Anne soon realizes that it is because Jenny's baby sister is getting a lot of attention, and Jenny feels like her parents are paying no attention to her. Should Mary Anne talk to Jenny's parents about it? Find out what happens!

4-0 out of 5 stars Mary Anne and Miss Priss
I thought this was a very good book, and I am going to read lots more of this series. I like the character of Mary Anne and she is very kind to help Jenny to get happy again. I would recommend this book to a lot of people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriquing view on child psychology...
Story kind of amusing, yet poignant. Kind Mary Anne seems to be the only one who understands why Jenny acts so fussy for a four-year-old. Touching how Mary Anne worries about Jenny, especially when Jenny's own parents don't seem to understand her & pour a lot of attention into baby Andrea. The book was kind of funny in that Mary Anne goes through a lot with Jenny, especially when Jenny turns messy & makes a HUGE mess of peanut butter in the kitchen, testing even Mary Anne's patience. Another cute scene which also reflects Mary Anne's gritty, honest humility is when the other kids reject Jenny openly from their games & Mary Anne is startled to notice that Jenny doesn't seem hurt or upset, then thinks, "if it had been me, I would have turned bright red & burst into tears." Typical Mary Anne humility! I'm past my teen years now & I read this book a while back, but I sometimes re-read Mary Anne's books & as I'm reading, I sometimes forget that Mary Anne is still a child in this series; her mind seems so...grown up & mature. I love how perceptive she is & sees beyond the superficial facts of behavior & understands why people behave in certain ways. Mary Anne's truly enchanting & unlike any other character I've read about.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
This was one of the best BSC books yet!! Jenny P. is shown in a new view. Before she was always the favorite and spoiled child. Now Andrea seemms to have taken over Jenny's plaace as the princess. She doesn't know how to deal with this. She tries to attract attention by being Miss Perfect. Mary Anne sees that Jenny is hurting inside and decides to show Jenny that her parents still love her. This was a very good book and I know every sibling has felt the same way Jenny has. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Poor Jessi!!!
It's the Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa time, (AGAIN,) for the BSC and Jessi decides to educate the BSC's sitting charges about Kwanzaa by putting on a play based on the old African legend Malindy Meets the Devil, (or something like that.) But then tragedy strikes. While Jessi is riding in the car with her Aunt, younger sister Becca and her baby brother Sqwirt, they get involved in a car crash, resulting in young Sqwirts head injury. Jessi starts to think that her Holidays are ruined, but are they?

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
In Happy Holidays Jessi, Jessi wants to have the kids in the neighborhood celebrate Kwanzaa. But then when Jessi, her sister, Aunt Cecelia, and Squirt get in a car accident, Squirt gets hurt. Will the Kwanzaa celebration happen? Or is it history?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Holiday Story & Culturally Enriching!
I really liked this installment. Jessi, the narrator describes Kwanzaa, the African holiday and the history and traditions about Kwanzaa.

Jessi's redoubtable Aunt Cecilia is just as overly punitive as ever, until her father intervenes and reminds her that as long as she is living in HIS house, she will have to abide by HIS rules and not try to enforce her own. He defends his children and reminds his sister yet again that Jessi and her 8-year-old sister are still children and to cut them some slack. Chastened, the girls' aunt vows to do an about face and once again takes them Christmas shopping. Instead of chewing them out for being hungry or clowing around, the aunt bites her tongue. The only thing I had trouble with was her allowing the girls' baby brother to ride outside of his car seat when he becomes restless and fussy.

Unfortunately, they are involved in an accident and Squirt (John, Jr.) has to be hospitalized. Distraught over the baby's injuries, the parents chew the aunt out for her sheer irresponsibility (why would any ADULT allow a baby to ride in a car without being properly harnessed)? The Kwanzaa gatherings with other members of Jessi's family are strained and everybody is up in arms over the harm done to poor Squirt.

The subplot is excellent. Ann Martin has a real gift for creating dialog and scenes. The other members of the BSC plan a Kwanzaa skit and the BSCers and charges alike all get into the spirit of Kwanzaa and actually learn a few things. I laughed at the hilarious story of Malindy's Soul, the story the group put on. It was a delightful farce and really quite well woven into the story.

Fortunately, Squirt recovers and everybody has a wonderful holiday. Instead of Santa, everybody follows the Kwanzaa celebration. This book is really good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I love this book! It's December again and Jessi, one of the two junior members of the Baby-sitters Club, is really looking forward to Christmas and Kwanzaa. Read this book to find out what happens!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is really interesting!
I felt sorry for Jessi when her brother,Squirt, was knocked unconciousness in a car accident (at that time the other people in the were Jessi,Becca and Aunt Cecelia). But at the end Jessi's cousin comes for a special dinner for Kwanzaa and Squirt is back to normal. Poor Jessi she was really sad during that time. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Dawn Dawn Dawn
How did Dawn change her mind so fast? In California girls, at the end she learned to like carol and said she wouludn't mind if she married her dad, but in this book, she had a problem with it and she booked her own flight back to connecticut. That was very sneaky of her and it does sound like something rebellious a teengar would do for sure. In fact, I liked that part the best even though I don't agree with what she did. I didn't care for the rest of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars GET READY TO THROW SHARP DARTS AT PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE DAWN
DAWN ROCKS. She is AWESOME, COOL, and ADMIRABLE for getting on her own flight. That's POSSIBLE. Perhaps sneaking away from problems and stealing from her dad wasn't so good...but every interesting novel has to do with a character making mistakes! Dawn is NOT vain or vapid or self centered or ANYTHING negative AT ALL. She IS THE BEST!!!!! She would NOT make a good target because NO ONE WOULD THROW DARTS AT HER UNLESS THEY WERE SOFT!!! Everyone loves Dawn. I WIN; YOU LOSE. I AM THE ETERNAL VICTOR. DAWN IS ALSO AN ETERNAL VICTOR. END OF STORY.

5-0 out of 5 stars GET YOUR DART THROWING ARMS READY TO THROW DARTS AT DAWN!
Get your dart throwing arms, ready to throw some sharp darts at Dawn. She is a crybaby and a snotty brat to boot. I don't like the way Kristy jumps on the crybaby train by bellyaching about not having fame and TV coverage like the BSC's West Coast counterpart. Kristy, for all her bravado is a big crybaby too.

I don't like Dawn. I think she is sneaky and self centered. Stealing her dad's credit card and booking a cross country flight was just too cowardly and irresponsible for words. I was glad she got put on the next plane back to California and was made to pay for the two plane tickets. Serves her right. I think she'd make a good bull's eye in the dart board.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written but some parts unrealistic
I loved the parts describing California life, but the parts about the club becoming so famous seemed unrealistic. Kristy was a baby about being jealous of them.
