5-0 out of 5 stars "The Baby-Sitter Burglaries" - A Wonderful Thriller!
The Baby-Sitter Burglaries
By: Carolyn Keen
Reviewed By: S. Bhuiyan

This book is a thrilling and exciting mystery! Nancy Drew, a detective, is helping her friend, Juanita, babysit for several kids. Suddenly, a mystery appears for Nancy to solve. Juanita and her boyfriend, David, are being accused for burglarizing three houses in River Estates. The police believe the culprit is Juanita because she babysits at all three of the robbed houses and her boyfriend is the one that installed the security system so it would be easy for them to brake into the houses. Knowing that Juanita is innocent, Nancy investigates and finds some clues that puzzles her. One of those clues is that the burglar is only taking toys, TV's, and coin collections; not valuable items such as jewelry. Nancy knows one thing - the key to this case is the security system that has failed at eachof the robbed houses.

I liked this book because the plot was fantastic and the writing was very detailed. I also liked this book because I thought the ending was absolutely wonderful. In my opinion, this book was so good that when you start reading it, you never want to put it down until you finish it.

I also liked this book because of the magnificent quotes. One of my favorite quotes in this book is: "Carlos-take my hand!" She then froze in horror as someone started to flip her body into the dumpster! This quote is found on page 93 of the book. Here is another one of my favorite quotes, found on page 96: "I hate to say this," Nancy whispered to George,"but Juanita did make sure we'd be bust tonight, what if she and David were planning to skip town?" These quotes are very important to the story.

I liked the part of the book where an angry Doberman dog jumped on Nancy, bringing her to the ground. I also liked the part when Carlos, Juanita's little brother, tried to run away from Nancy by jumping on his bike and speeding away. I liked these parts because they represent a very interesting and important detail detail to the story. They turn the mystery around.

Why, why did they accuse me right away for stealing stuff from houses I work at before
they got evidence?
'What is wrong, Julie?' Nancy asked. 'They accused me of stealing things from houses I
baby sit at without any evidence or any other clues!'
Will Nancy be able to solve this mystery of her friends false accusation or not? This
book will take you away in a very fast paste, believe me it took me that way.
In the book the baby sitter is falsely accused of stealing from burglarized homes. I could
see being a suspect in her place but don't accuse her alone. One of the reasons they accused her
also was because she knew the security codes and her boyfriend only installed the systems in the
houses that were burglarized so he was also accused of it right away because of his knowing the
codes or how to get in without the alarm going off.
In this book the author, Caroline Keene, loves to trick the reader but who cares? Let your
mind go where it wants to when you read this book. At one time she had me fooled to believe
that this boy was the burglar. She will have you fooled to believe so many different things that
don't even happen in this book. Trust me I know.
The author keeps you going on and on, reading. I read this book in a day because I
wanted to find out the whole mystery and who was the burglar. If you read this book she gets
you to the point that nothing else is going on in the world. When they started finding clues that

the burglar left, it had me hooked even worse than any other time. When this happened I didn't
have even a single clue what was going on around me!!!
This book is so suspenseful! It makes you believe things that don't even happen. This
book makes you think beyond the plot. I was so suspenseful when the burglar catches Nancy and
knocks her down in the boat and was very close to hurting her severely until a little boy named
Carlos got there just in the nick of time. Wow, that was incredible and you will find the burglar
in this part.
This book was unbelievable in so many different ways. One way I really thought was
unbelievable was how can a human bean write so wonderful and mysterious? She has a
wonderful way of wording and getting the reader caught up in the story so much that you think
you are in the story and you are the main character!!!
The baby sitter is falsely accused of stealing things from houses she worked at without
evidence. The author, Caroline Keene, tricks the reader in so many different ways. Caroline
Keene, keeps the reader going on and on and on just to find what happens next. This book is
suspenseful. You can barley stay in one spot to read you should or would have to move around
because it is so exciting.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'd read it again
I'd read it again because I already have read most of the Nancy Drew books I just started to read the books this year. I read the books in the order that they come in. What got me started reading the books was the kids in my school because everyone reads them. So one day, I checked one out from the school library and I couldn't put it down. So I just keep checking them out. And I think that this one is the best so far. So that is why I I'd read it again. Read to find out what happens.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book, full of exitement.
WOW! I loved this book.It was exe*.I thought it was unfair to poor old long-suffering hard-working Bess. The suspence was too good ,I love that about the Nancy Drew books. WOW!

Book Description

The Border Collie Moss spends his days lying beside stacked bags at the Pragers' Garden Center, looking like a statue. He watches intently every time a car pulls into the parking area and occasionally even climbs into a stranger's vehicle.

Diane, the Pragers' baby-sitter, knows Moss is searching for someone, missing someone. She longs to help him. She wants to return him to the exuberant dog she knew a year ago, before he was injured and disappeared. She feels responsible for the change in him.

Diane has a hunch that if she can convince the Pragers to let her prepare Moss for sheepherding competitions, that'll perk him up again. He needs to work. But can the Pragers find time in their busy days to train Moss and Diane? Even if they do, will Moss work for Diane? Will he accept her?

And how will he and Diane deal with the frightening chain of events that is set in motion when Diane stumbles upon a skunk acting strangely -- twirling, snapping, staggering dizzily, even attacking a car...?

Book Description

In this funny, fast-paced middle-grade novel, fifth-grader Joel wants nothing to do with babies. He's the only kid in Junior Adventurers who hasn't passed Emergency Preparedness, and the last thing he needs is a real-lifecrisis that will mess up his chances. But when his best friend's pretty older sister begs him to help her by taking care of a toddler named Tucker(aka Trouble), he can't say no. And, boy, is he sorry.

During his hair-raising-and hilarious-adventure in baby-sitting, Joelbattles putrid diapers, an escaped cockatoo, and a best friend obsessed with capturing footage for World's Funniest Videos. After all this, passing a silly old emergency test looks like a walk in the park.

5-0 out of 5 stars The next Beverly Cleary
As with Ms. Grave's other books, my eight-year-old son insisted we read this book in less than two sittings because he wanted to learn the ending. Not only is TROUBLE full of nonstop action, its dialogue, characters (and their ridiculous names), and endless mishaps are funny in a way that's highly appealing to third grade sensibilities. Joel's escapades babysitting Tucker Goodchild remind me of Beverly Cleary's talent for well-paced, rather ingenious plots, and realistic yet humorous detail. This is the kind of chapter book that hooks even a struggling reader. I would highly recommend it for fun bedtime reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
Mary Anne discovers that Jenny, a four-year-old that she is babysitting for, is starting to act prissy and trying to be perfect. Mary Anne soon realizes that it is because Jenny's baby sister is getting a lot of attention, and Jenny feels like her parents are paying no attention to her. Should Mary Anne talk to Jenny's parents about it? Find out what happens!

4-0 out of 5 stars Mary Anne and Miss Priss
I thought this was a very good book, and I am going to read lots more of this series. I like the character of Mary Anne and she is very kind to help Jenny to get happy again. I would recommend this book to a lot of people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriquing view on child psychology...
Story kind of amusing, yet poignant. Kind Mary Anne seems to be the only one who understands why Jenny acts so fussy for a four-year-old. Touching how Mary Anne worries about Jenny, especially when Jenny's own parents don't seem to understand her & pour a lot of attention into baby Andrea. The book was kind of funny in that Mary Anne goes through a lot with Jenny, especially when Jenny turns messy & makes a HUGE mess of peanut butter in the kitchen, testing even Mary Anne's patience. Another cute scene which also reflects Mary Anne's gritty, honest humility is when the other kids reject Jenny openly from their games & Mary Anne is startled to notice that Jenny doesn't seem hurt or upset, then thinks, "if it had been me, I would have turned bright red & burst into tears." Typical Mary Anne humility! I'm past my teen years now & I read this book a while back, but I sometimes re-read Mary Anne's books & as I'm reading, I sometimes forget that Mary Anne is still a child in this series; her mind seems so...grown up & mature. I love how perceptive she is & sees beyond the superficial facts of behavior & understands why people behave in certain ways. Mary Anne's truly enchanting & unlike any other character I've read about.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
This was one of the best BSC books yet!! Jenny P. is shown in a new view. Before she was always the favorite and spoiled child. Now Andrea seemms to have taken over Jenny's plaace as the princess. She doesn't know how to deal with this. She tries to attract attention by being Miss Perfect. Mary Anne sees that Jenny is hurting inside and decides to show Jenny that her parents still love her. This was a very good book and I know every sibling has felt the same way Jenny has. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Poor Jessi!!!
It's the Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa time, (AGAIN,) for the BSC and Jessi decides to educate the BSC's sitting charges about Kwanzaa by putting on a play based on the old African legend Malindy Meets the Devil, (or something like that.) But then tragedy strikes. While Jessi is riding in the car with her Aunt, younger sister Becca and her baby brother Sqwirt, they get involved in a car crash, resulting in young Sqwirts head injury. Jessi starts to think that her Holidays are ruined, but are they?

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
In Happy Holidays Jessi, Jessi wants to have the kids in the neighborhood celebrate Kwanzaa. But then when Jessi, her sister, Aunt Cecelia, and Squirt get in a car accident, Squirt gets hurt. Will the Kwanzaa celebration happen? Or is it history?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Holiday Story & Culturally Enriching!
I really liked this installment. Jessi, the narrator describes Kwanzaa, the African holiday and the history and traditions about Kwanzaa.

Jessi's redoubtable Aunt Cecilia is just as overly punitive as ever, until her father intervenes and reminds her that as long as she is living in HIS house, she will have to abide by HIS rules and not try to enforce her own. He defends his children and reminds his sister yet again that Jessi and her 8-year-old sister are still children and to cut them some slack. Chastened, the girls' aunt vows to do an about face and once again takes them Christmas shopping. Instead of chewing them out for being hungry or clowing around, the aunt bites her tongue. The only thing I had trouble with was her allowing the girls' baby brother to ride outside of his car seat when he becomes restless and fussy.

Unfortunately, they are involved in an accident and Squirt (John, Jr.) has to be hospitalized. Distraught over the baby's injuries, the parents chew the aunt out for her sheer irresponsibility (why would any ADULT allow a baby to ride in a car without being properly harnessed)? The Kwanzaa gatherings with other members of Jessi's family are strained and everybody is up in arms over the harm done to poor Squirt.

The subplot is excellent. Ann Martin has a real gift for creating dialog and scenes. The other members of the BSC plan a Kwanzaa skit and the BSCers and charges alike all get into the spirit of Kwanzaa and actually learn a few things. I laughed at the hilarious story of Malindy's Soul, the story the group put on. It was a delightful farce and really quite well woven into the story.

Fortunately, Squirt recovers and everybody has a wonderful holiday. Instead of Santa, everybody follows the Kwanzaa celebration. This book is really good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I love this book! It's December again and Jessi, one of the two junior members of the Baby-sitters Club, is really looking forward to Christmas and Kwanzaa. Read this book to find out what happens!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is really interesting!
I felt sorry for Jessi when her brother,Squirt, was knocked unconciousness in a car accident (at that time the other people in the were Jessi,Becca and Aunt Cecelia). But at the end Jessi's cousin comes for a special dinner for Kwanzaa and Squirt is back to normal. Poor Jessi she was really sad during that time. ... Read more
