Let's go to the dentist!
this is the BEST dentist book i have yet to get for my son! He loves it,and I do too!

The 'real' pictures are an added bonus and everything is done just right!

You won't be dissapointed!

Great book for any Barney fan!
Even though the age for this book is from 4-8, my 2 year old loves it. She asks to read, "Barney Dentist" all of the time, even though she has about 15 other Barney books. I hope it will help her to not be afraid of the dentist when it comes her time to go.

Simply Brilliant!
There has been a noted shortage of great allegorical novels in recent years; "Barney Goes To The Dentist" plays a great role in redressing the balance. Ms Dowdy's simple tale of a purple dinosaur's trip to the dentist serves as an excellent background for a narration of the change of political paradigms in Europe after the Spanish victory over the Turks at Lepanto in 1571. The novel draws heavily from G. K. Chesterton's narrative poem, but Ms Dowdy is able to bring a great deal that is all her own. I found particularly notable and ironic the manner in which she addressed the reaction of Antwerp anabaptists after the battle and King Philip's response. I would say that Ms Dowdy perhaps gives less credit than do traditional sources to Don Juan of Austria's role in subsequent Hapsburg military affairs, but this approach is interesting, even if you disagree with it. In short, an interesting and enlightening approach to an valuable topic.

Barney Goes to the Dentist
This is a great book for your child to get to see the inside of the Dentist Office and not be afraid because Barney is there. Great tool for the teachers or Dental Professional to use to talk with small children for Childrens Dental Health Month. (Febuary)

Great Interactive Book!
We have really enjoyed this book at our house! My kids love to imitate what Barney and the children are doing, and we love to do the actions all together over and over. ("Pat your head, tap your nose, now bend down and touch your toes. . .") It's a really fun way to learn body parts, and it gets us moving and laughing together. Though toddlers and preschoolers will understand the book's contents best, it's also a good choice for babies because they can see Barney and the children very clearly, and babies love bright colors and faces. And after you've read the book and done the actions many times, Baby will most likely start to imitate you, and, behold, a fun tradition is born! This is a great way for you and the kids to interact and have some fun, and the fact that they're learning at the same time sure doesn't hurt!

One of the best!!!
My 1 1/2 year old daughter LOVES this book. When I read it she just laughs. She doesn't do the commands yet like "pat your head", but she seems to get a kick out of me doing it for her. She loves to "read" the book by herself (turning the pages and jabbering). If your child likes the videos, this is a great compliment to that.

Barney Says
My 19 month old loves this book because she has just learned all the body parts. She points to Barney's body parts as well as her own as directed in the book. It is extremely entertaining (the first 100 times) to read and watch her perform.

Barney and Baby Bop talk in stilted rhyme
Barney and Baby Bop go to the grocery store (which is actually a Tom Thumb location in Dallas) and talk about stuff to buy.

My only problem is that this is supposedly two friends chatting in the store, but their "conversation" is in a stilted, forced verse. Why the author felt it had to be rhyme like this, is beyond me. She should leave the poetry to Dr. Seuss and just let the two guys have fun in the store.

I'd choose another book in the "Go To" series if I were you.

Excellent for Preschoolers!
I'm a preschool teacher and we used this book before we left on our field trip to the grocery store. It was great! I highly recommend the series for preschoolers. Great photos and few words. Wonderful!

It's a great book!
My 3-year-old loved this book. It gives clues to certain foods that Barney needs to put in his cart, and your child, along with Baby Bop, can guess what those foods are. And they're all healthy foods, too! Great job to the authors ... Read more

"X is for Extra-Sharp Cheddar"...Please!!!
This book has a really cute concept, and is of course appealing because of the ever-friendly Barney. However, "X is for Extra-Sharp cheddar"? I realize that X is a difficult letter, but if the author was going to do an alphabet book, one would think that it would be incumbent upon said author to create an appropriate food for each letter...or else don't use food as your concept!!! If not creative, at least the book should be correct...it is supposed to be an alphabet learning tool!!! ... Read more

best book ever
This is my favorite book ever. The deep, tense plot, and the intriguing and multi-dimensional characters kept me reading non-stop from start to finish. Barney is good for all ages, especially the over-50 crowd. For those of you tired by the mindless action and violence, this is for you. This is unlike the TV show Teletubbies.

Barney may be annoying but the books are great!
I am NOT a Barney fan (can any adults stomach that show?), my son is though so I got him some of the books. I love how positive they are and how they influence good behavior and don't reinforce any bad. It's worth putting up with Barney to end up with a well mannered kid!

Excellent reference for kids
My daughter got this book when she turned three, about six months ago. Whenever we take her to a restaurant, about once a week and always to a very kid-friendly restaurant (I don't see the point in taking her to anything else!), we read through this book just before we go, and she now knows how to behave when she's ordering a meal etc. By the way, in case parents of younger kids were wondering --- before she was three she was impossible to take out for a meal. She'd kick and scream and generally make it known she wanted to get down!

Apractical guide to table manners for young ones
This book is ideal for children because it is a good guide for parents to teach their child how to display good table manners and behavior in a public eating place. It teaches children how to use cuttlery properly because many children would feel badly when they see other children using a knife and fork comfortably. It also helps the young ones to relax and feel at ease. It also makes them realise that eating out is fun! The pictures are so clear, colorful, appealing and attractive to the young children. I know my grandson will love this book. He is only two years old and he is a fantastic diner already. He feeds himself, using a fork and avoids making any mess with his meals.He is a social eater. FAVORITE BOOK
Even if you are not a fan of Barney, (most parents aren't) your child will LOVE this book. My daughter is 17 months old and can tell me what sound each animal on the farm makes. She loves lifting the flaps and discovering the animals behind them! Highly recommend!

Fun book for all zoo (and Barney) lovers
In this board book, Barney takes children on a trip to the zoo to visit several animals who hide behind large flaps. Barney asks simple questions, and then the child can lift the flap to find the animal and the answer. My little ones love finding the animals behind the flaps, and since they love both Barney and zoo animals, this is a perfect fit.

great fun
Two of my children are huge Barney fans and the love this book.I read it to them right after our first visit to the zooand they loved that they saw all the animals that are in the book. They love to pull open the flaps to see who is underneath.I have read this story to them many times.

Very, very pretty, but ...
I heartily endorse all the glowing praise of other reviewers for the layout and the fine grain of the spectacular photographs. Design excellence.

I know personally one of the editorial panel and, yes, he is among the world's leading authority in his field. From that I assume the others are, too.

BUT, for all the science and thought that has gone into the book it has two critical flaws.

(1) it suffers from "vertebrate chauvinism". Most of the world's animals are not vertebrates, but most of this book is devoted to vertebrates. Biodiversity depends on far, far more than the vertebrates.

(2) it omits one of the planet's most populous species, a species which, by its spread, has changed the lives of most other species and is causing many of them to become extinct. I refer to the human species. Can you believe it is not listed!

How can a book which appears to be otherwise so scientifically sound, in the twenty-first century, get these two things so wrong?

Despite these fundamental flaws, the book is a gem. My copy is prominent in our house and everyone dips into it almost daily. A feast!

Great Children's fun
All 3 of my children have loved this book. The colorful illustrations give much to discuss in addition to the text. Children learn animal sounds, colors, and the lift-up flaps engage children in the story. I have also bought this book for gifts and all children seem to love it. ... Read more

4 great books in for one great price!
My son is the biggest Barney fan there is. These books have quickly become the favorite of his collection. The pictures are so lively and vibrant, and the words are so fun to read to him. He loves the neat little "suitcase" that they come in too!

My Daughter loves these books...
We got our 2 year old daughter this boxed set for Christmas and she absolutely loves them! Her favorite is Barney Plays Nose to Toes which is fun for her to act out. The pictures in all of the books are colorful and inticing for young readers, even my 4 year olds have enjoyed this set. The board books are very durable and withstand a lot of wear and tear. ... It's Barney, but it IS fun for the kids
This book is what you would expect if you are familiar with Barney and company. The good news is it teaches your child(ren) about fire safety in a non-frightening way, while entertaining them. The best news is that you can do your own voices and you don't have to listen to B.J.!

An Introduction to Police and their Jobs
Barney lovers will appreciate this very reasonably priced, factual book about the work our police do. Photographs that include Barney and BJ enhance the informative text. As a teacher of young children I very much appreciated the warning for children to tell a grown-up if they ever see a gun and that they are not toys. Barney's Mother Goose Hunt
As well as being mother to an active 2 year old, I teach ESL to 30 children from 1 to 3 years old. Anyone who knows toddlers, also knows how hard it can be to get them to sit and look at a book, especially in a group setting when they don't understand much English. This is the first book I have found which draws the children in and holds their attention right to the end!

The book is great for inspiring your toddler to participate in reading. While the book is not heavy in plot, the child is asked to find objects that are in the nursery rhyme and pictured on the page. My toddler is 2 and was overjoyed to be able to accomplish what the book asked. It is challenging because the pictures are quite lively.
