There's nothing like spending an afternoon building towers and bridges with blocks. On the other hand, curling up with a good book is nothing to sneeze at, either. So how about... building towers with board-book blocks! This splendid box o' blocks is filled with 26 chunky little board books (what a great idea!), one for each letter of the alphabet. Each spread of the five-page minibooks displays a word ("alligator," "ball," "car") with its corresponding tiny, adorable picture. Stacked on top of one another, these alphabetical "bricks" (just the right size for small hands) will build a fine wall of words. A sturdy 6.25-by-6.5-inch cardboard carrying case allows budding builders and bookworms to carry their literary treasure wherever they go.

Susan Estelle Kwas paints simple miniature images with enough delicate detail to measure up to demanding young eyes. Every book is a delight--building a vocabulary has never been such fun! (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent toy and a friendly introduction to the alphabet
When my daughter received this box of books as a first birthday present, I was skeptical: surely ABC books were some distance in the future? But she has played with it nearly every day for eight months. Small hands have no trouble with these chunky little books, which are easy to stack. Since each contains only four words with accompanying pictures, sometimes we find ourselves reading just one or two, sometimes working our way through the entire box. She now recognizes all the letters and can name almost all the pictures, and the box is holding up well despite regular use.

I'm surprised that a couple of reviews mention the illustrations unfavorably. They are simple, expressive and stylish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic toy
My son received these as a Christmas gift at age 3 months and they have been a huge hit ever since. He loved looking at them and opening them at first, then taking the books in and out of the box, then stacking, now at 18 months he loves to point at the pictures when I say the word. They are small enough to pop in the diaper bag for trips. He can't get enough of them. Our 2 and 3 year old friends love them as well-they're a hit with everyone. A very long-lasting and educational toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS
the images are really great. These little books are perfect for your child to hold on their own. great for all ages

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book set and teaching tool!
We were given this set of books as a gift for our son when he was a little over 1 yr old. He's 3 now and still loves them. He started out just chewing on them or stacking them. But soon he was lining them up in order. Then we started spelling small words with them and he caught on fast. He's three and reading now and still loves these books as stacking toys, reading material or as letter blocks. They are tough and have lasted through lots of use. We have had to tape a few back together because no board book survives that much love (clear packing tape works best). But I can take the maintenance given what he's gotten out of them. This is a great gift!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Toy
We gave these block books to our daughter for her 1st birthday and she loves them! She takes one book out of the box at a time and we end up reading all the books to her in one sitting. She is also trying to repeat the words. This was such a great gift, that I am going to buy the Learning Block Books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific tactile tale!
Saltzberg has definitely created a "winner" in this his first book on Animal Kisses. From the outset, this book captures children's attention with vibrant colors and simple images, add to that, the appeal of differing textures and beginner's text for easy comprehension. "Do you like scratchy cat kisses?" The reader sees a large yellow cat, highly contrasted, on a red and violet background with its tongue sticking out, SANDPAPER - scratchy texture. Children find "touch and feel" books irresistible and love the expedition through tactile territory. Additional textures include: FELT - velvety cows nose, STICKY - dogs tongue, FUR - fuzzy bear kisses, PLASTIC - rubbery fish kisses, and VELVET - squeaky pig kisses. Oh, and Saltzberg earns BONUS points for placing an actual squeaker in the pigs nose! Terrific tactile tale! One-year and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter's favorite book
My 15 month old daughter always brings me this book to read to her. She prefers interactive books (touch-and-feel, lift-a-flap) and that continues with this one. The bright and colorful pictures of this boardbook really capture her eye. The book has a scratchy cat kiss, a sticky dog kiss, a velvety cow kiss, a fuzzy bear kiss, a rubbery fish kiss and a squeeky pig kiss. The textures are great. She has enjoyed it so much that I am ordering it for a one year old's birthday gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars My twins love this book!
One of my daughters will lean over and kiss every page. She won't let her sister turn the page until she's kissed the animal. The squeaky pig kiss is always a big hit! A minor warning, it may attract dogs that love squeaky toys.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll read it over and over.
My daughter loves this book. She has been "reading" it since she was nine months and is now 15 months old and still enjoys it. She loves feeling the different textures on each page on the animal and enjoys literally giving each animal a kiss. When we read it to her we pair it with the animal's sound. She has learned a lot from this simple yet captivating book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves the animals
My daughter loves to feel the scratchy, sticky, furry, velvety and squeaky kisses from these wonderful animals. She now knows all of the animals by name and can even make most of the sounds that each of the animals make. ... Read more

Tana Hoban has created an elegant solution for those who want to initiate children into the infinite wonders of reading. This picture book compels parents to talk to their babies as they share the wordless pages with their little ones. Black illustrations on a white background provide high contrast for infants' underdeveloped eyes. Soothingly familiar, silhouetted shapes--a leaf, a key ring, a bib, an elephant--will be recognized by the very young, and through these simple pictures, aspiring readers will begin to identify the link between the objects they see and the words their caregivers say. Hoban, beloved author of many childhood favorites, including Black on White's companion piece, White on Black, as well as Is It Red? Is It Yellow? Is It Blue? and What Is It?, has struck gold again--black gold, that is. It's the perfect baby gift! (Baby to Preschool) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for newborns
Who says babies are too young for books? This book (and Ms. Hoban's other similar books)is a shining example that we're never too young to be introduced to books and reading. The bright, crisp, contrasting images are perfect for new babies. My baby loves this book, and will sit entranced for quite a while as we talk about the images we see. My only complaint would be that it is too short! (Of course, so are babies' attention spans) I think this book is a great baby shower or 'new baby' present. Their first book, what could be a better gift?

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to stimulate your newborn!!!
This book is great! No words, just contrasting black and white pictures. My newborn loved it. He couldn't really concentrate on anything visually, as most newborns are that way, but the minute he saw this book, he just stared and stared at it. I recommend it to all new mothers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still one of baby's favorites
Baby's had this book since birth... and after 4 months, it is still one of her favorites. The pictures really grab her attention, and she likes to study them. Also since there are no words, you can make up a new story for the pictures each time if you want!

5-0 out of 5 stars HIS FAVORITE!
Granted, my son is only four months old, but this book is a big hit. I'm sure he'll outgrow it eventually, but that's the case with any book! If you have a very little one, this is a great book to start with. My son has only a dozen or so books so far, and out of all of them, this is the one he kicks and coos at the most. I'm attending a baby shower in a couple months and I'm definitely going to throw in a copy of "Black on White" for her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for adoptive families!
We purchased this book along with several other adoption-themed books for children. This one by far best explains adoption in a way our children can understand. As a family that has both biological and adopted children, it was important to us to find a book that presents ALL children- adopted or not- as special. Mr. Rogers does a fantastic job, as always, putting it into terms that all children can understand. This book is appropriate for children of all types of adoptions. It seems that too many other adoption books focus on children adopted from overseas or those adopted as infants. This one is flexible enough that it can be used in many different situations.

Thank you, Mr. Rogers!

5-0 out of 5 stars As wonderful as his show
What can I say! Mr. Rogers couldn't fail at anything he did, even if he tried. This is a lovely book about adoption, beautifully telling in words and pictures what being a family is all about, adoptive or not. It tells just enough about adoption not to confuse the young child but to focus on feelings every child has and how to cope with them. Five stars for Mr. Rogers whom we sorely miss every day. Gisela Gasper Fitzgerald, author of ADOPTION: An Open, Semi-Open or Closed Practice?

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for young children
We have several children's books about adoption and this is by far my favorite. It focuses on what it means to be a family and how families formed by adoption are just like other families. It emphasizes the importance of talking about our feelings with one another. It discusses how the adopted child may have questions about his or her adoption and that questions are okay to ask. This book is filled with photographs of adoptive families interacting in every day ways. It is much easier for my son to relate to these photos than the cute animals in some of our other adoption books. I definitely recommend this book for adoptive families with young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reality for kids
This terrific 27-page book features many photographs of adoptive families and their children, and discusses the feelings that kids have about being in their families.

"When you were born," it begins, "you were ready to live and be loved, just like every other child in the world.

"And you needed to be in a family, just like every other child in the world."

Being in a family, the book tells children, means feeling like you belong. And belonging can happen whether you are born to a family or adopted.

Photographs of several adoptive families show children who are happy, angry and sad. Their families comfort them, and love them, even when they are not at their best. "Your family is special," the reassuring message concludes, "because of all the ways you belong together."

This is a great book for even for very small children who were adopted. Alyssa A. Lappen

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
As an adoptive parent, I found this simple little book to provide very clear and positive explainations about adoption that are readable to a child of any age. It is a great book to begin introducing the concept of adoption to very young children. It is not very long and it is filled with photographs of many types of families. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I want my money back
My son finished the first grade book within two months, and he wanted to do more math homework. So I bought this book and third grade book for him. To my surprise, I found that about 1/3 of the material are copies from the 1st grader book, and another 1/3 of pages are copies from the 3rd grader book. We both were very disappointed. (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
My daughter is ahead of her class and needed to be challenged, by page 7 we found this book definitely a useful learning tool. It does NOT review 1st grade. I find it frustrating to purchase an age level book and have half of it be just stuff they have already covered. This IS NOT the case. Would definitely be a great book for home schooled children and look forward to purchasing the next levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars good math review book
I used this book to review second grade over the summer after finding my daughter had large gaps in her math education. My daughter loved placing the stars included in the workbookon each completed page. The math problem pages kept her interested because of how the problems were related to one another. For instance, on one line there were several ways of getting to the number 7 imbedded in two digit calculations. The book covers the major areas of math education.

5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing Math to 7-8 year olds
The Math Made Easy series is a complete home-study program to help your child practice the essential math skills they need in each grade. This workbook will provide practice for all the major topics for Grade 2 with an emphasis on the addition and subtraction of larger numbers.

You will also find a review of Grade 1 topics and a preview of the topics in the Grade 3 workbook. This is when they introduce Times Tables Practice.

A progress chart can be found at the start of the book and includes stars you can stick in the correct box that corresponds with the completed lessons.

The "Answer Section with Parents' Notes provides answers to all the activities in the book. These pages enable you to mark your children's work. There is a visual of each page and notes to help you explain the common errors and problems. Where appropriate, they indicate the type of practice needed to ensure that your children understand where and how they have made errors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bob Books Fun!
These are the absolute best early reader books I have found anywhere! Short vowels, simple words and sounds to start off and then each book adds a little more so your child can have early success, then gradually move up to harder words and eventually long vowels. There's nothing else like them. Great for early phonics practice. Closest thing to the books we learned on. (Remember, "See Dot run. See Spot run. See Dot and Spot run.", etc?) These are the first books every child should read. Try one set, then buy them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Make "Bob" a part of your young child's early reading!
The Bob books are superior early reading books. They are gentle stories, using a tight, controlled vocabulary and delightfully simple line drawings for illustrations. I have used these books, for years, for independent reading for my first grade students and my own child as well. These wonderful, little books are appealing to young children, more so than any other books that I have seen. You and your young ones will love the Bob books!

5-0 out of 5 stars The absolute best to get kids reading!
These are simply the finest first reading books on the market today! Each page has a sentence such as, 'Peg had a big cap,' along with a simple illustration. At the end of each book is a list of unique words contained in the book (usually about 20-40) listed by the vowel sound. The set of 12 books also comes with a teacher/parent guide that give the story behind the Bob Books, hints for teaching your child to read, and questions you can ask the child about each book to help with comprehension and enjoyment.

This set of books really hooked my daughter on reading. We gave these to her when she started Kindergarten and she would read them on the way to school. The nice thing about having 12, is that when she mastered one of them, her 'reward' was to get the next! These books provided her first good experience with reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great tool for learning to read
My 5 year old started with the "Bob" series the summer before kindergarten. By the beginning of school, he had gone through 4 out of 6 of the sets, although he still likes to go back to the eariler ones to re-read the books. He loves them and is so pleased with himself for being able to read his own books. This is a great way for young children to learn to read. I highly recommend the entire series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Reader books
My neighbor let me borrow this particular set of Bob Books when I mentioned that our 6-year-old was still struggling with reading simple words. I had never heard of Bob Books before, but I have since bought 2 more sets! My daughter enjoys the stories and loves reading books to her sister, father and me. It really boosted her self-confidence and I feel she's better prepared for entering 1st grade this fall. I will definitely recommend these books to other parents. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It IS great for kids!
Our 5 year old got this as a birthday gift...he and his 7 year old brother LOVE this book and love explaining it to adult who don't get it quick enough! A great gift! We have to get Zoom now!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK LEAVES ME SPEECHLESS...(and anyone who
has read any of my other reviews knows that being speechless isn't one of my major problems :- D

There isn't a written discription of this book that is adequate... The book is entirely visual. It is one continuous picture that changes in perspective by "ZOOMING" in on a part of the prior picture. It's like looking at a snow-globe....than being in the snow-globe....than being in a picture IN the snow-globe. The artwork is fascinating and the ability to pre-think the work as a whole would have daunted me if i were the artist... What a gift this book is. I bought it for my son but it has made a much more incredable impact on any adult i show it to. if you choose this book you will NOT be sorry. And it makes and excellent gift for a person "who has everything". I think if i had to be stuck on a desert island with one book this would be it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A visual feast of perspective!
Banyai manages to capture the readers imagination with brilliant illustrations as he pulls away from a minute detail that becomes a bigger part of the picture. My 9 year old son and I read this masterpiece over and over and as we journeyed deeper into to pages, an overwhelming sense of the largess of the world came to mind. This is a must read! It is thought provoking and riviting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My son just read it to me
My son is almost 3 and is just learning his ABC's but with only a few days of reading this book he "read" it to me tonight for bedtime, barking correctly for each of the dogs and howling at the moon "like a coyote". My son enjoys the book and I think the simplicity is part of his attraction. For me the fun of this book is barking together. It's a great little book, but not recommended for people that can't ham it up a little. Also, if you get bored reading repetitious books, check it out from the library instead of buying it so you can take it back when you get tired of barking.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son "wuffs" it!
I purchased this book when my son was 10 months old. He wasn't interested in it back then... NOW, he is 15 months, and he makes us read "Doggies" over and over and over again. You can't be shy reading this book to children, otherwise, it would be quite boring. It's a fun book and although I get tired of reading it to him a million times, I love the fact that my son is excited about reading and books. Thank you Sandra Boynton.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it!!!!
My kids ages 1 and 3 love this book. The pictures are wonderful and they love all the different sounds that the dogs make. I enjoy reading this one to them. My son, age 1, asks for this one over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Here a ruff, there a woof, everywhere a bow wow
My two toddlers love - and I mean LOVE - being read this book. I, however, am not as keen. It's a good book, great even. I give it five stars! It's just that a true rendition of this counting book by dogs and their number of barks can be a little wearing on the adult reading the book. But it's well worth it when it's all said and done just to see the huge smile of my kids as I'm barking, woofing or ruffing. HELPFUL HINT: hide this book for special occassions! otherwise be prepared because your kids will always pull this out out for bedtime reading......

5-0 out of 5 stars It freakin' rocks my world
Maximum barkage! Mega canine action takes counting to a whole new level. Oh yes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hands on Book for the Creative Minded
I just used this book to teach my daughter (8) and son (5) the same exact lesson on two different cognitive levels. Late last night, I sat down with a paint program and drew two diagrams just like Mrs. Comfort's. I folded and cut a piece of paper into eight squares of approximately the same size. I used multicolored paper clips as chairs. Tonight, we had so much fun that we spent almost five minutes per page, counting guests as they arrived, counting chairs as they dissapeared and reappeared from around the table perimeters and following the detailed chaos as garlic bread, salads, vases and pasta flew around the room. I have one question. Did Mrs. Comfort get the last meatball?

5-0 out of 5 stars Variable Perimeters and Fun, Practical Problem-Solving
Ah! If spatial relations had been taught like this when we were all young, everyone would be fluent mathematically.

Instead of all those problems about two trains rushing towards one another, this book takes a practial problem and uses it to illuminate spatial problem-solving.

Mr. and Mrs. Comfort decide to invite their family and neighbors over for dinner. Pretty soon, 30 people have accepted so they will be feeding 32, including themselves. In a role reversal from the sexual stereotypes, Mr. Comfort is the cook and impractical one while Mrs. Comfort is the left-brained problem solver. She knows what needs to be done, but everyone else has to work it out for themselves by moving the furniture around.

Mrs. Comfort figures out that they don't have enough tables and chairs for this many people. So she rents some. She correctly figures out that 8 tables seating four people each will do the trick (8 times 4). She rents 8 tables and 32 chairs (but they deliver only 31, and she has to find an extra folding chair).

All is well, until the guests start to arrive. They don't want to sit at separate tables. They want to eat at one big table so they can be closer to everyone else.

That creates a problem. Each time two tables for four are put together, two places are lost (you now have only two ends, while you had four before with separate tables). That's not immediately obvious to the guests, because most of the chairs and tables are unused in the beginning and they don't know how many people are coming.

Mrs. Comfort tries to warn everyone that it won't work, but they ignore her. She finally gives up.

When most of the people arrive, there are not enough places for them at the table (even though there are enough chairs), so they begin pulling the tables apart from one another.

Sure enough, in the end, the guests are seated at 8 separate tables for four. Isn't logic wonderful?

Mrs. Comfort could have ordered more tables and had everyone sit closer to one other. But she wanted to save money. That makes sense, doesn't it?

There is an adult's guide in the end for how to work with your child to make this a problem that she or he can work on. The suggestion is to make 8 little cut-out squares, and to move them into different configurations to handle the various numbers of guests. From this, the child can see that the perimeter varies for the same area, depending on how the area is configured. That lesson will never need to be taught again.

You can also use some of the cooking quantities in here to do math as well. Assuming the children eat so much, and the adults so much, how much will be left over of the meat balls?

Having seen how such a problem can be constructed, I suggest that you develop your own story puzzles. I can guarantee that your child will remember you as a cross between Einstein and Diderot if you do. Here's a hint: How would you go about planning a trip for your family if you were going to have to use frequent flyer miles and the number of miles you had to use varied with when you flew? You can complicate that one for older children by introducing variables like the cost of hotel room nights and car rental days, and having a fixed number of frequent flyer miles to work with in order to find the solution that optimizes the trip and its cost.

But I'm sure you will have even better ideas!

Math teachers: This book will bring the gladness back into your heart, as well as create dedicated, happy students. Do yourself and your students a favor and use this book as a teaching aid.

Think carefully about the periphery to get to the heart of the matter!

5-0 out of 5 stars My students thought it was "awesome"
I used it in my 4th grade classroom as the basis of a formal observation by my prinical. The kids were enthralled by the book and activities I made using this book to reinforce ideas about area and perimeter. Just as important, my principal liked it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for introducing perimeter and area!
This book is an excellent tool for introducing perimeter and area to an elementary school class. The story is engaging and funny. The children can easily move colored tiles to imitate the movement of the tables in the story. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars All Gimmick
My daughter recently received this book for her 4th birthday. Not to brag, but she has very advanced verbal and math skills for her age, so I consider her to be appropriately classified as Pre-K. That being said, this book is way over her head. She doesn't know how to read. She is trying to learn the alphabet, for which purpose this book is ill-suited. The first three pages instruct the child to trace the letters of the alphabet. From there, the child is expected to do a number of exercises requiring mastery of the alphabet. The directions make little sense if one doesn't already know how to read, which is unreasonable for anyone to expect as background knowledge for the Pre-K level. Often, it is not even obvious to me what the creators of the curriculum intend by some of the exercises.
Furthermore, the colorful cats, etcetera are distracting. I ripped out the "reward" stickers and gave those to her right away, after I noticed that she was rushing through the page, doing unacceptable work, in order to hurry up and get the sticker. I think the stickers are damaging to my attempts to instill in her the intrinsic value of learning.
This book may be useful for children who already know how to read somewhat as a review of the alphabet and numbers, but I do not recommend it for even the most advanced 4-year-olds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I've been aware of this line of products for some time. Recently while cruising one of the large area booksellers I purchased this for my 3 1/2 year old son. -- I liked the format of having all of the activities in one large book which I could store safely in our book case, instead of having to search amongst the coloring books for the smaller single subject books. -- My son delighted in the book from the first time we worked on it together. -- I read the instructions and he is able to complete many of the activities. Just enough of the concepts are beyond his abilities right now that this will be able to provide months of engaging challenges for him. He seems to really enjoy figuring out the right responses 'all by himself' and the look of pride and satisfaction he gets is just priceless. -- The pages are also perforated, so just last week I took several pages with us on an airline flight. My son was content for the entire trip. - As we were leaving the airplane a woman seated in front of us complimented him on what a bright and well-behaved little boy he is. It made both of us feel great.

5-0 out of 5 stars My neice can't put this book down!!
This is probably one of the best presents my 4 year old neice got. The first day she got it she did 55 pages in one day!! Now her mom has to tell her to take a break because she'll work on this book for hours! She's had it for a few months and its surprising that she hasn't gotten bored with it unlike her other books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun step-by-step learning
My almost 4-year old daughter just received this workbook (the 1st grade edition) as a present from Grandpa. She enjoys completing the excersises, with a little adult help to make sure that she is following the directions correctly. I like that the book progresses in difficulty as the lessons get completed. My daughter is already learning how to read with a Phonics method, so the phonics excercises were at the right challenge level. The workbook did help her pick up new sound combinations in the middle of words, which she had not covered yet in her Phonics class. I was surprised that she seemed to be able to handle the beginning Math without much trouble, such as grouping and counting by tens, and how two and three digit numbers are constructed, since before this workbook she was only counting up to twenty, and adding very small numbers. My daughter really likes the animal characters, and of course, the stickers. I plan on buying her some of the kindergarten books and as soon as she finishes them go back to this workbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful learning tool!
My 6 year old daughter who will be in 1st grade this fall loves this book! This is one book that wont be thrown in the corner and forgotten. My daughter has worked hours on this book. She loves it!!! She does not feel like it is work either. I highly recommend this for summer work or to catch up. It is huge and not a tiny work book they will whiz through in an hour. Out of all the workbooks we have had this is the best. ... Read more

Count to 10, explore the alphabet, discover shapes, learn about opposites, and find the missing teddy bear in this big, colorful board book. Sesame Street's beloved Elmo guides young readers to lift more than 60 flaps to reveal humorous and edifying surprises. Over the word "dry," Grover gazes unsuspectingly into a garden hose. Turn the flap and guess what happens! Grover learns all about "wet." A towering pyramid of alphabet blocks contains objects starting with the same letter behind each flap: alligator, book, cookies. Large, sturdy flaps allow rough-tough toddler hands to clutch and pull as much as they want with minimal risk of tearing. 5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE
I purchased this book for my son who was not even 2 years old at the time and wow! This book was a huge success. It was a great way to introduce numbers, letters and opposites. My son could not get enough of it. He is nearly 3 years old now and still loves this book. It is a lot of fun to watch your child know what to expect from the pages and play along with the pictures. Although it is now extremely "used" and in need of replacement due to excessive use (my son may have loved it a little too much!), it is well worth the money of purchasing a new one. My daughter who is currently 6 months will now get her chance to experience Elmo the same way my son did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alphabet!
We gave this book to our 16 month old daughter for the holidays and she simply hasn't put it down since. She actually says "alphabet" when she wants to read it, opens to the pyramid of blocks, and proceeds to name the items under each of the letters' flaps. She really loves it. It's also helping her learn her shapes as well as the other Sesame Street characters names. The drawings are beautiful and it's really a lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Daughter Loves This Book!
I bought this book for my daughter as part of her birthday present when she turned 1. I did not think that she would love it as much as she does. She is now 17 months old and she still carries it around everywhere. Here favorite part is at the end when Elmo needs help finding his beloved teddy bear. When we find it together, she always gives the bear a big kiss and claps HOORAY!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Travel
I bought this book to keep my 22 month old daughter busy on a 7 hour flight. She LOVED it! She was so excited to open all the little doors to see what was behind all of them. It kept her busy for at least an hour! It's a sleek book, although large, and fits right down the side of my diaper bag. The little doors tear pretty easily, but we taped them back. She loves carrying it around with her wherever we go. AND the price here is better than the discount store!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Son LOVES It
My son is 12 months and enjoys looking at all kinds of books. And this is one of his absolute favorites. (I even like looking at it!) The pages are sturdy and the pictures are great. 5-0 out of 5 stars 4 months and still going strong
I bought these for my daughter not knowing how much she would love them. Granted, she is only 11 months, but like the other reviews have said, the books are small enough to fit in her hands. She carries them EVERYWHERE! She even sleeps with a book or two. I love the colors, and the texture as well. With some board books, my daughter has gotten paper cuts, weird I thought. But not from these! They are awesome. I had just bought the ABC ones to start with but now I am getting the learning ones too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best first birthday present ever!
My daughter received this for her first birthday. At first she loved reading the little books - which are sized perfectly for a toddler's chubby little hands. After a couple of months she became obsessed with stacking things and would spend time every day stacking and re-stacking the books. They are shaped just right for a young toddler to stack, and are much less frustrating than square blocks.

At about 18 months she got into colors and numbers and loved to sort the books by color and count them. Now at 21 months she is STILL playing with this toy - long after every other first birthday gift went to the attic or the thrift store. And the books and the box are still in great shape - this has to be the sturdiest toy we've ever owned.

I now give this box of books to every one year old I know. I can't say enough wonderful things about this toy!

5-0 out of 5 stars CAPTIVATING
I bought the Learning Block Books as a gift for my 13 month old niece. Although she was a bit tired (read cranky) at the time, it instantly captivated her. The box that holds the little books is very sturdy and has plenty of extra room to hold them (no struggling to fit them in). She immediately started to put the books in and pull them out. She then began to open them and look at the pictures. The books are color coded (and thick cardboard) so that the shapes and animals follow the same color theme. Since then she has continued to play with them daily and as she grows older the books give the opportunity to continue to learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great companion to the classic ABC Block Book set
Our daughter received the author's set of ABC Block Books as a gift when she was 8 months old, and it has been a beloved staple ever since. These are incredibly versatile book/toys which are effortlessly educational. Stack them, put them in and out of their box, look at the pictures, learn the letters, sort them by color, and of course read them out loud! Hours and hours of fun.

As soon as I saw this new collection I knew we had to have it. My daughter (now 18 months) was so excited! A whole new set...it was like finding the dead sea scrolls. And the books do not disappoint. I particularly like the shape and numbers books. The shapes encourage kids to look at everyday objects in different ways (e.g. pillows and doors are rectangles), and the numbers all conclude with the nice touch of a birthday cake with that number of candles. A winner all around. But if I were to buy just one, I'd still choose the ABC books, just because they're such a simple, natural set. ... Read more

My 23-month old daughter loves this book. The butterflies are pretty and sparkly, the illustrations are bright and colorful, and the text is flowing and poetic. She asks to read this book nearly every night. It's also a fun way for her to learn her colors!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Daughter's New Favorite
This book is absolutely beautiful. A brilliant bedtime story with vibrant colors and gorgeous illustrations. Each page teaches a different color and the illustrations boldly burst with that color. ..., is how the book starts off and we are then led all around this color dreamland. ...The butterflies in the book are popped out and sparkly. As we turn each page the color butterfly we are reading about disappears. Each page mentions the color twice and an animal. The last page reunites all the butterflies and the colorful animals as we say goodnight...My daughter loved this book since she was 4 months old. The colorful illustrations keep her interested and she likes to grab at the popped up butterflies. A delightful story I enjoy reading again and again. I sometimes even read it to myself. The purple page is MY favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it
My daughter 1 year old really likes this book. I bought it because of its similarity to the 10 little ladybugs book. It has the same sort of colorful illustrations and I like it better as the ladybugs are not as pretty as the sparkly butterflies. This book teaches colors as each of the butterflies finds a place to stay for the night.

3-0 out of 5 stars Labels may not be helpful for young children
I love Todd Parr's animated illustrations and charm. But after purchasing this book and reading it to my 2-year old, I wasn't as excited about this particular book. The labels "good" and "bad" are used in a way that it introduces ideas into a young child's mind. Like some of the examples were "good:light", "bad: the dark". I am trying to teach my daughter NOT to think of the dark as something bad and not to be afraid of! So that's not too helpful. Also, it has "monsters: bad" as well as "big hairy spiders: bad". We're trying to convince my daughter that monsters don't exist, not that they are "bad" and make her scared even more. The other labels in the book are funny, like "smelly feet: bad" and "hot chocolate with marshmallows: good".

I know Todd Parr just wanted to write a funny book for kids. But if your children are at the stage where they are scared of things or take things very literally, then you might want to choose a different book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I am a teacher and I love these books. Todd Parr has outdone himself yet again in writing this book. I am sure that it will be a hit with my class of first graders.

5-0 out of 5 stars New fun, funky emergent reader series
I love the Todd Paar books! Neon-y colors and goofy, childlike art make these very simple books stand out from the crowd. Things that make you feel good include bubble baths, pets, hot chocolate with marshmallows, and bedtime stories. Things that make you feel bad include smelly feet, stinkbugs, worm stew, and monsters. The combination of things that are real and things that are silly will make you laugh and maybe take life a little less seriously. If you're a kid, there's an important self-esteem message in these books that the littlest kid can relate to. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Too much fun for bedtime!
Yes, this book WILL get the kids trying to jump on the bed. It's a lot of fun, and much laughing is heard whenever we read it. There is a lot of detail in the pictures - I love watching the doctor, and Mama gives us a great ending! I picked this up when my younger son was asking for us to play "monkeys on the bed" (the rhyme with hand motions)over & over & over - my fingers were tired. We've been reading ever since! Have I mentioned that the board book format is a great, sturdy idea? Definately a good buy, and highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monkeys are the best!
I have been reading this book to my son since he was 3 months old. The first time we read it he actual laughed out aloud. He is now 10 months and still loves this book. We read it every night before bed and are even painting monkeys on his wall because they are his favorite. Those monkeys are very cute and babies love them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Little Monkeys Jumped on a Bed
This is a very good book this was my favorite book when I was little. It is a really good book for kids, and I don't think that you would be disappointed if you bought it. It is easy to follow along with, and it is even better because it involves monkeys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
In this book there a five little monkeys that have to go to bed. So the monkeys all get in the bath, put there pajamas on, and brush their teeth. The monkeys say goodnight to their mama and are supposed to be sleeping, when all of the little monkeys start to jump on the bed! One of the monkeys falls off and bumps his head. The mama called the doctor and the doctor said, "NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED!"
This book teaches mainly only one lesson and that is that you shouldn't jump on your bed because you can get hurt by falling off. The age level for this book is 3-7. I have liked this book since I was little and I would definately recommend this book to little kids!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Monkeys

Let's get one thing straight right off the bat. Children lovebooks with flaps. They can't get enough of them. And this book has many, many flaps--over 60, in fact. Something else: children are crazy about Thomas the tank engine. Translation? Very young readers will happily spend a lot of time lifting and learning with this big, bright, colorful board book. Early learning concepts are reinforced on each page, as readers are encouraged to explore their knowledge of colors, numbers, sizes, everyday objects, and the alphabet. Thomas the tank engine travels through the pages, starting out early in the morning in the train shed and moving through the stations, dropping off parcels and passengers, and finally ending up in the freight yard with car after car full of important objects to be delivered, such as milk, doors, a piano, a kangaroo, and xylophones. Children should be allowed to roam freely over the pages of this book, making up their own stories related to the pictures they discover under the flaps. (Ages 2 and older) --Emilie Coulter ... This is a flap book, 60 of them to be exact.

The popular Thomas the Tank Engine format is used to introduce children to the alphabet and their numbers. Each covers a flap that children can uncover and find a corresponding example. Other pages host more traditional flap objects (items that fit with the story), but the learning flaps have helped...associate letters with appropriate objects and recognize number representation with appropriate groupings.

The book is sturdy, which can't be said for all flap books. The typical Thomas story is here, as well as the colorful art that delights young readers.

This book is a winner. Watch them learn while they enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars flaps, flaps, and more flaps!
Pages with only one flap on them? Why waste the space? This book has flaps upon flaps upon flaps, so many that sometimes my two-year-old will reach for another one I've missed as I'm starting to turn the page. The last page alone is several minutes worth of flap-flipping fun. Even if your child isn't a huge Thomas fan, this is a fun book with lots of hidden things to find on each page. What's underneath will help teach colors and numbers and letters. And if they like Thomas, than they'll love this book. There's a logical progression from page to page if no actual story, but the fun in this one isn't reading out loud, it's finding flaps, lifting flaps, trying to remember what's under flaps. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all train fans!
We bought this book for our then two-year-old and it is still his favorite of all his books. The flaps are not as sturdy as they could be, he's torn a few and the Elmer's glue thing has been initiated, but all-in-all, it's a fabulous book and teaches counting, the alphabet, objects, shapes, etc. It's just such a cute book and is without all the negative things that the regular Thomas books has (i.e. name calling, put downs, etc.). This really isn't a Thomas book per se, but more of a basic let's go to the train yard and see what's going on type of book. I highly recommend it for the train lover in your family. It's one of the nicest books we own.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Thomas!
This is a very nice book, and my son absolutely loves the first page which shows the roundhouse and each character engine behind a flap. However, we have one complaint: there isn't enough Thomas! Some of the pages seem very disconnected from the Thomas theme. For example: the page showing the inside of Sir Topham Hat's house. I think we own just about every Thomas video on the market and I cannot recall ever seeing Sir Hat's house. My son does not make the connection, and tends to lose interest in the book about halfway through. However, he can spend 1/2 hour on the first page alone, so I guess that makes up for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of flaps = Lots of fun
My husband bought this for our son when he was 19 mos or so. He is going to turn 2 soon and he still loves that book. He loves to look under the flaps, and has actually learned a lot from it. He never knew what a kangaroo was until he got this book. I was amazed at his ability to recall what flap the kangaroo was under! It's a bright, colorful book that any toddler will enjoy, especially if they are Thomas fans.

The only downside I would say about this book is that some of the flaps are not as strong as others. My toddler has ripped off a few of them, but mostly because he is so enthusiastic about the book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Believe it or not, this is a fabulous book!
I was hesitant to get this book as I was not crazy about the illustrations, but my 13 month-old daughter has the Little People Farm and is obsessed with everything lift-the-flap (almost a requirement for her current attention span) so I thought she might enjoy relating her toy animals to the pictures. Little did I know it would be SUCH a hit. She doesn't even play with her farm now, she plays with this book! There are so many opportunities to learn through association with counting, colors, shapes, opposites, and animals. The flaps are sturdy as well: she has only managed to slighty tear one, where as many other lift-the-flap books are referred to as "rip-the-flap" books in our house. She brings it to me to read to her nearly every day, then turns around and backs into my lap for the much anticipated flap-lifting, pointing, and page turning. I think there are over 30 flaps in this book, so it is a very good deal for that reason alone! I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BOOK
This book is one of the greatest out there for young children. My son loves the Little People toys from Fisher Price and I thought this would be a nice addition. I had no idea how much he would LOVE reading this book. We read it EVERYDAY!!! There are so many concepts to learn from animal identification to shapes and colors. Each time we look at it I find something new to teach him. It is a wonderful and fun way to introduce basic concepts to toddlers. My son wants to go through it over and over again and when he gets to the last page which is a night time scene, he says "Good Night" to all the animals. It is so important to read to young children and this book makes it not only educational but fun. I would recommend this book and the other two in the series to anyone who wants their toddler to begin to love books. All three are excellent and must haves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun for 1 and 3 year olds
This is the greatest book ever... Both my three year old and one year old love for me to read this book with them. They are so delighted to see what is under the flap. They both seek out this book so they can sit and look at it quietly by themselves. The three year old loves to talk about what is going on in each scene and guessing what is under the flaps. The colorful illustrations can't help but keep little ones interested as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps us entertained for hours!
My 15 month old daughter has loved this book since she received it for her 1st birthday. We've taken it on two cross-country flights and the people around us are amazed how content she is.

She is so proud of herself to find the items by lifting the flaps, she's able to remember where things are and we can talk about lots of things on the pages, not just the flaps.

I love this book. My baby loves this book. And her older cousins age 3 and 6 have enjoyed "reading" it with her too!

Wonderful
What a great book! The pages are loaded with wonderful color, charming illustrations. There are lots of flaps to explore,
