I have two-year-old twins, and they are absolutely entranced by this book! After reading it to them the first time, they became and have remained simply delighted to shout out the animal names as we flip open the pages. Sandra Boynton turns on the charm again in this story about a cuddlydino who refuses to go to bed until he (or she) has the right comfort object. A reflective silvery moon, some pull-out flaps, and a liftable bedspread with a reluctant hero hiding beneath it offer the very small reader a way into the story. The "Binkit" itself, a piece of soft yellow felt, can be stroked for reassurance. Reluctant bedtimers from one to three will enjoy this introduction to the idea of a bedtime routine that ends with comfort, closed eyes, and peace. (Baby to age 3) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this book is great
I love this book. I gave it to my nephew (he's 2) and he loves it too! The pictures hidden behind the flaps are surprising and funny. Most small children can relate to the Dinosaur who can't find his binkit at bedtime (adults can appreciate it as well). This is a book that adults won't have to dread reading it over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice book for little ones
Sandra Boynton's book, Dinosaur's Binkit is a sweet and short bedtime story. A dinosaur who is getting ready for bed can't find his "binkit". Little one's can lift flaps and touch the soft blanket. My son hear's "I want my binkit" and immediately picks up the book. It is easily becoming a family favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
This one of the most special children's books I have ever read. Almost every night, my 2 yo twins go to sleep with the sounds of "Where's my binkit!?" The girl twin refuses to go to bed unless she has it. BTW, we are on our second copy of it now...

5-0 out of 5 stars Darling
My 2 year old son loves this story. He loves to lift the flaps and the felt bed cover looking for Dinosaur. Now he also has a "binkit". It is still one of his favorites, even after 6 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Childhood Favorite...
Imagine my surprise when I found I can still get this book through Amazon! This was one of my very favorites when I was a child, and now I'm ordering it (even though I still have a very old "dog-eared" copy), for my child. Scuppers the Sailor Dog has marvelous adventures all around the world, while always putting away his clothes and spyglass neatly on their respective hooks. The illustrations are excellent and full of exotic locations around the world that I loved as a child and can still picture in my mind 30 years later. The story stayed with my Mother and I, so much so that we even named our dog Scuppers after the dog in this book. Thanks Amazon and Margaret Wise Brown for enabling me to relive this story with my own child

5-0 out of 5 stars I based my whole life on the doggy wisdom of Scuppers.
Excellent illustrations and a wonderful story about this can-do dog named Scuppers. Great cozy scenes, adventure, rocking boats, ship wrecks, house building, everything you ever need. The best book of my childhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book 50 years ago and was thrilled to find it
This book spoke to my soul as a little child (in the 1950s) - dreams of making it on my own, seeing the world, being adventurous. For years I looked for it, not remembering who it was by or the name. What a thrill to find it now and to be able to buy it for my friends' children and grandchildren! Thank you to Golden Books for bringing this back. But please give us an edition with all the illustrations and copy!

5-0 out of 5 stars His song sounds familiar!
I have read this book and could recognize that his song appears to be a spinoff of Popeye the Sailor Man's theme song. The words, "I'm strong to the Finich 'cause I eat my spinach" were replaced with, "I can sail in a gale right over a whale". But there are no words to replace the lyrics, "I'm one tough Gazookus which hates all Palookas..." and so on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oddly entrancing story and pictures
My 2-year-old daughter loves this book, and so do I. The story makes very little sense when you think about it using adult reasoning, but plot isn't really what matters here. It's the magical, humorous and exciting atmosphere, captured in great colors and textures by Garth Williams. Now that I now that some pages were omitted from this edition, I'm going to be looking for an older copy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Please don't go, we'll eat you up, we love you so!"
I personally never liked Sendak's WTWTA. Or In the Night Kitchen. Or Chicken Soup with Rice. Or anything ever illustrated or written by him. So, I'm not a fan. Got it?

But WOW, was I ever wrong. I just didn't get it before, but listening to Tammy Grimes narrate and with the addition of Herr Mozart, it's like being transported into what must have been a fascinating mind who could write so well for children.

Buy this CD for your 4 year old + child with imagination to spare and he'll be begging for it. It's become a TREAT 'round these parts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even as adults, it's still amazing to me and my siblings
My siblings and I listened to this wonderful cassette as children and to this day treasure it. We have passed it's wonders onto our own young relatives and soon to our own children. It will stay with you forever for the words of Maurice Sendak make your imagination take flight and the voice of Tammy Grimes is so captivating; the best I have ever heard these fabulous stories read! The addition of the music of Mozart truly inspires the mind of children and adults alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Reading by Tammy Grimes

"Good night, Gorilla," says the weary watchman as he walks by thegorilla cage on his nightly rounds at the zoo. The gorilla answers by quietly pickpocketing the guard's keys, stealthily trailing him, and unlocking the cages of every animal the oblivious fellow bids goodnight to. Looking much like an exhausted father, the uniformed guard traipses home toward his cottage, while the lonely zoo animals softly parade behind him. The animals manage to slip into his bedroom and nestle unnoticed near his sleepy wife--until the bold little gorilla goes so far as to snuggle up beside her as she turns out the light.Author and illustrator Peggy Rathmann (creator of the Caldecott-winning Officer Buckle and Gloria) relies more on the nuances of her jewel-toned pictures than on words to pace this giggly bedtime story, making it perfect for observant preschoolers. In one inky-black spread, Rathmann lets only the shocked, wide-open eyes of the guard's wife tell us that the gorilla has been detected! Tiny details such as the faithful, banana-toting mouse and sky-bound pink balloon that appear in each picture keep this book fresh, magical, and fun--even after countless bedtime readings. 5-0 out of 5 stars Gracie's Favorite Book
My 10-month-old daughter demands her father and I read only Peggy Rathman books to her before bedtime. Since she was 5 months old, she would choose Goodnight, Gorilla from a pile of books offered to her, even if I hid this book on the bottom of the stack. I have decided that, unlike most baby board books, Peggy Rathman stories have a climax to look forward to -- whether it is yelling "BEDTIME" in Ten Minutes 'Til Bedtime or gasping when the zookeeper's wife realizes there are a bunch of zoo animals in her bedroom in Goodnight, Gorilla. The illustrations keep me interested, night after night. The attention to detail is wonderful. I highly recommend her books, and wish she would write more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for toddlers!!
My son loves this book! I think it must be because the illustrations are easy on his eyes. The drawings are very childlike and the colors(mostly primary)are perfect. This is the story of a zookeeper who is closing the zoo for the night, and while he says "goodnight" to each critter, the gorilla, who is first, steals his keys and lets all the animals out. They all follow him home, and he never even notices! His pop eyed wife has to take care of them herself. It's the most adorable little book! There isn't much to read. It's more of a feast for the child's eyes right before he sets off to night nights.
The copy I have is a small board book, and it's small enough for my son's little hands to hold and admire all by himself.
I highly recommend buying this for the child at age 21 month and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for signing!
If you are using sign language with your child, this is a great book! It is more of a picture book, but there are great opportunities to sign gorilla (monkey, banana and key on every page, as well as some good concepts for kids like "light" and "sleep."

Even if you aren't signing, this book is fabulous. There are opportunities to identify animals and colors on every page, as well as finding the mouse and his banana.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun again and again!
I love this book and so does my toddler! We read it over and over. I love that we can think of different stories for every page and the illustrations and wonderful!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only cute, but really quite good
The creators of children's picture books that seek to enchant the viewer always run the risk of sometimes becoming TOO sweet. A book that's dripping with sweetie-pie sentiments is always in danger of disgusting the discerning (and purchasing) parent. "Good Night, Gorilla", on the other hand, balances deftly between sweet and smart, becoming both at once. In a simple story, a night watchman at a zoo bids goodnight to each of his animals as a sneaky gorilla unlocks them one by one. The unwitting watchman goes home (animals in tow) and it's up to his wife to put them all to bed again. If I was a better writer I'd be able to tell you just how cute this book is. It's SO cute! But not stupid in the least. Rathmann has filled this story with clever little subplots that kids will enjoy following. A small mouse with a banana lugs the heavy object from picture to picture. Rathmann even goes so far as to wrap a picture on the back of the book's cover around and into the inner fold where the tiny mouse stands by, patiently. The book also emotes deadpan beautifully. In one scene the watchman's wife says goodnight to her husband and the page goes black. Next we hear each animal in the room (that crept in unbeknownst to her) saying goodnight back. The two page spread that follows is just a single pair of wide open eyes in the black dark room. The deadpan wit will not be lost on either kids or their adult parents. If you'd like a book that you can read fifty times over without getting nauseated or bored, find yerself a copy of "Good Night, Gorilla", and count yourself lucky for having discovered it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a magical new myth
From the very first page you step into a mystical magical lushly colorful world of flowers and friendly animals that accompany Grandfather Twilight on his journey to place the moon in the sky. The moon is symbolised by a small pearl, taken from an endless strand, that grows with each step he takes on his evening walk, twilight spreading like mist behind him, until he releases it above the ocean into the sky. Then he walks home and tucks himself in to bed, surrounded by his animal companions. The illustrations are populated by so many interesting animals and things to look at and comment on that one quickly becomes absorbed in the world that Barbara Helen Berger has created. As other reviewers have pointed out everything about this book is soft and peaceful. There are very few words. Some pages don't even have words, you simply follows the events laid out in the illustrations. This book is a keeper. As enjoyable for adults as for children. They offer the age of 4 to 8 for this book. I would venture to say that this book could be an excellent first book for a child, as early as a few months. My two year old adores it. I have a soft spot for all of this authors books, but 'Grandfather Twilight, 'The Donkey's Dream', and 'When the Sun Rose', are my favorites. All three of these books will have a special place on my book shelf to be shared with my grandchildren some day, and you never know, maybe my great-grandchildren too:)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the two greatest "Night Night " books ever
The other great goodnight book is, of course, GOODNIGHT MOON. But this is every bit as good as that classic, although much less known. It is also one of the most extraordinarily illustrated children's books of any type.

This is also one of the very best books I know for children who have a bit of trouble going to sleep at night. It is masterful at presenting calming, peaceful, positive images of going to bed. The story is so simple that even a two-year-old can completely grasp it. Grandfather Twilight each night, accompanied by his German Shepherd, takes a single pearl out of his chest, walks to the shore, and places the pearl, which becomes the moon, in the sky. He then returns to his bed, with twilight descending upon the world, and goes to bed.

The details in the illustrations are exquisite. My daughter loved, for instance, finding the dog and the cat on each page. This remained one of our nonoptional nighttime books for at least two years. I think it will be among the favorites of any preschooler, as well as their parents. I do believe that this is among the best-illustrated books for young children ever produced.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful, enchanting, soothing
What a sweet, wonderful book! I read this many, many times to my now 16 year old daughter, and now that I have a new baby, I'm excited to have a good excuse to read it over and over again! The other reviews I read are right on track, you won't be disappointed in this book. You'll want to believe the story is true! (Who knows, maybe it is!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Modern myth
This book is a mystical bedtime story that tells a modern myth of where the moon comes from- -Grandfather Twilight takes a pearl out of his trunk each night and places it in the sky. The book is big on pictures and light on words (only about 100), with fewer and fewer words as the story progresses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Twilight's Coming...
This beautifully book tells a story about 'Grandfather Twilight', a magical looking man who begins the journey in which he gently brings nighttime to the world. As the reader, you walk the path with him as he travels through the forests with his animal friends. He summons the moon to her full beauty (the moon grows from pearls he has that grow bigger and bigger with each step on the path). He reaches the beach, and the pearl he started his journey with, no bigger than a pebble, has grown into the Moon, and he sends her forth into the night sky, and returns to his home to sleep. Reading this story and studying the illustrations evoked a wondrous sense of calm in my 2.5 year old son. The pictures foster his growing ability to count, identify trees, the sky, and the animals in the story and his world. The story itself captivated him and caused him to pay close attention -- a difficult thing to do at his lively age. I love this book and recommend it to everyone! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Seven, six, five
It's sort of a "Goodnight Moon" tale, but interesting. The book combines your average counting book (or, in this case, counting backwards book) with a bedtime sleepy story. Utilizing bright colors, interesting characters, and an eye for textures, author/illustrator Molly Bang has created a sweet simple story that does not annoy or condescend to the reader.

An African-American girl and her father count down to bedtime. There are ten toes on her feet. Nine fuzzy friends (including a clever and playful kitty). Eight windowpanes displaying the snow outside. It goes on. Each view of the bedroom is a comforting one. The observant reader might wonder why there are only seven shoes straightened under the crib, only to find that when we observe the five buttons on the girl's gown, the cat is proceeding to happily gnaw on the missing shoe. The delicate interactions between the girl and her father are undoubtedly the most tender parts of the story. Oftentimes we switch in the story from viewing things from the child's point of view (like her toes or her seashell mobile) to looking at the girl as she perches in her father's lap. After some goodnight kisses and a big hug to her furry bear pet, it's off to bed for the sweet sleepy little one. There is nothing in this book that will necessarily grab you by the guts and make you want to give this story to every man, woman, and child you know. It's just a delicately woven lullaby that expresses almost wordlessly the affection that exists between a father and his daughter. From the opening shot of the girl running to be in her dad's outstretched arms, to the final tucking in at the end of the night, the book touches a chord in the reader. It is sweet without overpowering you with its saccharine nature. Adorable without going overboard. It is a beautifully balanced work of picture book art.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ten, Nine, Eight
The book ten, Nine, Eight was about a young girl who is getting ready for bed and counting things on her way. The book used pictures to show the numbers one-ten and to help young kids incorporate the counting with pictures. The reading level for this book is pre-school or kindergarten, someone just learning to read or count.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book is helpful
this book is helpful for young children trying to read and count!

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodnight My Love
...Ten, Nine, Eight is perfect in all aspects: the African American characters can help my children relate to the book because the characters look like them; the father who puts his daughter to bed speak volumes for those who want to see an Afican American MALE in a positive role; and the short, simple story encourage children to read even if it is only from memory.

In my family, my son is the third child to enjoy this book. This book is one to be treasured and passed down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting children's book
I like reading this book. I like saying "Ten Nine Eight by Molly Bang" as we start. What a name the author has, and what a talent for making a simple book so engaging! The illustrations are comforting, with a continuity from page to page that is a nice touch. Also, since the father and daughter are African-American, this book brings a welcome diversity to the home library. ... Read more

This book is a nice collection of short stories, but none of the stories have a thing to do with falling asleep. Great stories with great characters, but if you've already purchased "Funniest Stories Ever..." then don't bother with "Bedtime Stories" because "Bedtime..." merely contains a subset of the stories found in "Funniest", with no new material what-so-ever.

This was needless to say rather disappointing to find out, following the online purchase.

3-0 out of 5 stars Richard Scarry's Bedtime Stories
This is a delightful books for young readers -- it falls in the 4-8 age range, but is probably more appropriate for 3-5 age range. Some of our favorite characters, Lowly, Huckle and friends ease younger sleepers into sleep. It was particularly helpful in lulling to sleep a newly-minted older brother who was eager not to miss any of his new baby's "action." Richard Scarry is wonderful at that! ... Read more

David McPhail--award-winning author and illustrator of more than 40 books, including Santa's Book of Names--has created another delightful book aboutEdward, a voracious reader of anything he can get his hands on, even seed catalogs in apinch. One night, while reading a book about pirates, Edward finds himself surroundedby the salty sailors who think his book might tell them where their treasure is buried. They beg, threaten, and bribe him to no avail, but when Edward's father scares the pirateswith a shower of arrows, Edward feels sorry for them and relinquishes the book. As itturns out, the pirates can't read, so Edward reads the book aloud to them. Kids will lovethe big, dramatic paintings(moody acrylics on canvas) and the rollicking story of how, with a little imagination, a book can come to life. (Ages 4 to 8) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow Wow Wow
"Over the top" is a perfect description of this book. Like "Mole Music", it is impossible to describe how perfect this book is - you just have to read the story. The perfection of McPhail's books goes beyond the story. The story is exciting, the pictures good. But it's also in the values that are reflected throughout the book that are actually incidental to the storyline. A strong woman character and a positive mother image. An equally admirable father and together they present a positive image of family. A strong, responsible, compassionate and incredibly imaginative child. An adventerousome, smart, caring BOY who loves to read. The perfection of McPhail's books also lie in what you don't find in them - you don't find the sexist or stereotyped images of either females or males; you don't find senseless violence or use of physical force as the only form of adventure; you don't find negative/pejorative stereotypes of the adults such as parents, teachers and other community members, that children encounter in their lives. McPhail has the creativity to present good stories without having to use negative stereotypes to make himself amusing or engaging. Our 2 1/2 year old son loved this book and we felt good about reading it to him, and we enjoyed it ourselves. It is also a good book for those concerned about the violence that children are exposed to in tv, movies and books. This story provides children with a broader look at how these types of characters can be used in imaginative play and gives more depth to understanding the characters (so perhaps playing pirates doesn't have to only be taking a stick, pretending it's a sword and hitting your friend with it.) The mother is also a great alternative to the sexist and weak portrayl of most female characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Edward and the Pirates
This is an over the top children's book. The illustrations are wonderfully done and the dialogue between the characters is challenging but very readable. I have used this book as a read aloud to classes from 1st grade up to 3rd grade and all have loved it! Edward is an intelligent young boy who loves to read...my students are drawn to this and are inspired to become better readers themselves. Well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars all-around great book about pirates and imagination
McPhail's picture book _Edward and the Pirates_ is about a young reader named Edward. Sometimes his imagination carries him away. Usually he gets involved in a book, and then he imagines himself in the plot, or imagines the plot coming to life. Then he goes to one of his favorite places, the library. He finds a book on pirates which begins "Some pirate treasure has never been found." Later, Edward takes the book home, begins to read, and then sometime during the night he imagines a pirate adventure which involves his library book, his parents, and a gang of ruthless-looking (but tame enough for a toddler) pirates.

The illustrations are very dark, yet this works to the book's advantage. My son has asked me to read _Edward and the Pirates_ to him a dozen times (my son is 3 1/2 years old), and he often finds new details amidst the dark illustrations.

The book sends a wonderful message about libraries (use them!) and reading (do it!) and imagination (use that too!), not to mention parents (they're the good guys!) and the imaginary episode is clearly written into the plot. Even my son realizes that there aren't really pirates in Edward's bedroom.

My son is intensely interested in pirates, and _Edward and the Pirates_ entertains him. The book sends wonderful messages while telling a strong story.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Edward and the Pirates
I was so excited to find this book, as my 3-year-old son is a swashbuckling pirate himself. I am a huge proponent of reading and this book sends such a great message about reading, while enthralling a child's imagination. I absolutely love the idea that Edward has checked his book out from the library and refuses to surrender it to the pirates. You must check out the two other books written about Edward and his reading adventures -"Edward in the Jungle" and "Santa's Book of Names". They are both incredible, especially the latter. I only hope the author continues to bring us more books about Edward.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great illustrations but a little boring
My 3 and a half year old loves anything about pirates but I am afraid he finds Edward and the Pirates a bit boring. It was reccomended to me in the book store, the illustrations are quite lovely, and the idea is good but if you are looking for the excitement you might expect with pirates you might look elsewhere matey. Unfortunately it sits on the bookshelf rarely chosen for the night night story. ... Read more

Book Description

Trees are beautiful. They fill up the sky. If you have a tree, you can climb up its trunk, roll in its leaves, or hang a swing from one of its limbs. Cows and babies can nap in the shade of a tree. Birds can make nests in the branches. A tree is good to have around. A tree is nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Create Tree Envy by Planting One!
The best early readers are those that focus on a subject that a child can easily understand, use simple words, and have illustrations that perfectly capture the words. A Tree Is Nice easily passes those tests. The book is a Caldecott medal winner for its illustrations.

The book explores all of the many benefits that trees bring us. They "fill up the sky," and "make everything beautiful." "Even if you have just one tree, it is nice too." The book goes on to describe the beauty of leaves, the fun of playing in them, and even bonfires with them in the fall when they are at their most beautiful. You can climb the tree, lean things up against the tree, enjoy the shade, be protected from winds, use the sticks for drawing in the sand, and hang swings and flower baskets in the branches. Trees make perfect backgrounds for picnics, too.

My favorite part of the book is the section about planting a tree. Ms. Udry points out that you can put a tree in, and watch it grow. Then you can tell others that you planted it, and they will want to plant one, too. I remember planting some trees as a cub scout, and revisiting them as a middle-aged man and taking great delight in seeing them become a large, leafy oasis in what had been a barren field.

The illustrations are terrific. The book's designer has created a vertically elongated page shape that accentuates the graceful trunks of trees. Half of the illustrations are in color (using watercolors with inked outlines and details) and half in black-and-white. The choices for full color are good ones (fall leaves, being next to a house, and with a picnic). The pen and ink ones with grey washes are very poetic in their simplicity. The design also minimizes the words, which appear almost like a memorial plaque at the base of a tree in an arboretum. The style is very reminiscent of the best simple drawings of the fifties, and provide a nostalgic feeling.

In addition to reading this book to your child, and having your chld read this book to you, you each must plant a tree!

Where else does nature provide well for us, where you can help nature along a little? Perhaps you should consider a bird feeder or bird bath (if you have a yard).

Enjoy the natural sculpture and art all around you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sheer Magic
This is a beautiful book. It describes all the joyous experiences that trees provide for us including shade for a picnic, a place to tie a swing, a place for cows to rest in the shade on a hot day. I have read it many times and never tire of it. The words are like poetry. A must for any young child.

4-0 out of 5 stars The giving trees
Evocative. In this simple 1957 Caldecott winner, the author and illustrator take a little time to give their full attention to the glory of trees. In simple easy to understand sentences we hear about all the wonderful things trees do for us. From protecting houses from dangerous winds to shading us from the sun's strong rays, this is all about the wonders of foliage and greenery. Written in 1956, it's definitely lacking in the minority department. You might be able to make the case that some of the kids are Asian, but on the whole there are a ton of children in this story and they are white white white. Then too, even in a book about the timelessness of trees, there are dated elements to the story. In one section the author revels in the wonders of autumnal leaf piles. She then goes on to say, "We build playhouses out of the leaves. Then we pile them up with our rakes and have a bonfire". Accompanied, of course, by a shot of a kid standing next to a smoldering pile. Better explain quickly to your children why setting huge piles of leaves on fire, as the child in the picture is, probably isn't the best of ideas in this day and age.

Altogether though, I've few complaints. The pictures are truly stunning and the story a nice quiet read. I was a little baffled by the gargantuan apple tree the kids climb at one point. Where the heck do they grow apple trees that TOWER over the land like this one? But this is a great tale to read in terms of environmental consciousness. The story ends by telling the reader that if he or she plants a tree of their own, their friends and neighbors will see how much fun it is and suddenly wish that THEY had a tree to plant as well. So the cycle continues. Consider bringing this book up on Earth Day. It's a nice compliment to a simple staid message.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tree Is Nice
This book is a good book because it teaches kids how important a tree is to the world. It also teaches them how much fun they can be. Young kids will enjoy the pictures while parents enjoy reading the story to them. I strongly suggest reading this book to someone you love.

4-0 out of 5 stars sweet and simple
This is a nice book...it tells you about many of the reasons that trees are nice. The only part I didn't like was the part about burning leaves. Not environmentally cool. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars These are not good books to stimulate your little one
I can't state enough how incredibly boring these books are.I got them for my son's first birthday, and while he enjoyed the little carrying case they came in- the books wouldn't even hold his attention. He doesn't like that the book is done in under a minute (even with pointing at the pictures and talking about them.)There are only a few pages to each book with short little verses on each page- no real theme or rhyme scheme to speak of.For a newborn-6 months these would be okay, but anything over that is too old.My son had a much better time with Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle books. At least they were more verbally and visually stimulating.I would even go so far as to say that these books made me not want to buy any other Winnie the Pooh books, products- etc for my son.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of my Son's Favorite books
My son loves having these books read to him. They are short with cute rhymes and colorful illustrations that keep my son interested in them.I read these books to him a few times a day at least. He loves pointing out the pictures and having me tell him what he sees.We spend alot of quality time together with these books and the look on his face as I read to him is priceless. These books as other reviewers have pointed out do have an age limit. I would say that these books are great for any child 2 1/2 and younger any child older than that might find these boring.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for babies only
My toddler is now bored with these books.Illustrations are [taken from] other sources, the books don't seem written by the same author and the text is splotchy.I read them to my 8-month old now, because the length is good for his attention span. But if you want bedtime books for toddlers, I prefer Boynton's "Going to Bed Book" or even "Bedtime for Baby Bop" over these. It's just an excuse to throw the Hundred-Acre Woods' characters together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Bedtime Reading
This is a lovely set of Winnie The Pooh books perfect for getting your toddler settled and sleepy ready for sleep. Each have a theme relating to bedtime or getting ready for bed.Beautiful illustrations and strong pages so an overenthusiastic toddler can turn the pages without doing any damage to the books. The books can be easily taken out of and put back into the slip case which has a handle - perfect for the toddler to carry around. They'll always have something to read.My daughter loves Winnie the Pooh - she often brings the set on car trips and more often than not we find the who set in bed with her!
Beautiful books to share with your child at bedtime.

4-0 out of 5 stars Children love these books
The rhyming content of the 4 books is soothing and suitable for bedtime, but that is not the real value of the books. Young children love to carry them around in the box, take them out, read them again and again, and put them back. The rhymes become familiar and pleasing, as are the pooh characters. Good from about 8 months. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, yes. That's true..
It is a beautifully illustrated book. I have little against the book per se. And yet, there are other books out there that have more depth which deserve more stars than this particular book. "The Boy Who Wouldn't Go To Bed" is another beautifully illustrated bedtime book that features a train. Books by Ruth Krauss/Maurice Sendak, Charlotte Zolotow ("Where the Wind Blows" and "The Sleepy Book" are really wonderful night time books), John Burningham (like "Hey! Get Off Our Train" features a train) and a number of other authors and illustrators have written time-tested books that are worthy of the most number of stars available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
This book is beautifully illustrated and a perfect bedtime book (for obvious reasons). I like the way it presents the idea that you have to go to sleep to get to tomorrow. Quite lovely all around and a nice gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect bedtime story
My 2 year old loves this book as much as I do! It is a classic tale of a child who doesn't want to sleep and the mother who coaxes him to bed. The drawings are striking, with details (of animals, trains, balloons and such) that keep everyone interested. The rhymes are fun to read and are perfectly paced for a bedtime story. After repeated (almost nightly) readings, I still enjoy reading it. ... Read more

Book Description

Every child has bad dreams. But the Bible tells us that our God is strong and loving and wants to protect us. And children can cling to that wonderful truth, using it to help drive fearful feelings away.

In The Dream Quilt, a little boy named Michael is having trouble with bad dreams. Then one day, Michael learns about the special quilt game Granny Rose used to play with his mother when she was little and had bad dreams. He wants to play, too. The game works. Michael's dreams are now quite lovely. But when the quilt gets taken away, he learns that it wasn't the blanket that protected him at all-and that the only thing he really needs to feel secure is the God who keeps him warm and loved...and safe.

Through repeated rhymes, bright colors, and a charming story line, The Dream Quilt helps to instill in children a confidence in God, as well as reinforce the bond between parent and child. Best of all, it gives moms and dads a greatly-needed, easy-to-use tool to help get children through their toughest nights-and teach them about the God who will love them throughout all their days. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Dream Quilt is a sweet journey.
The Dream Quilt is a beautifully illustrated story that will delight adults and children of all ages. The morals and character of a family our based down through the beauty and tradition of a family heirloom. A must for teachers, parents, and friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Casting out fears by trusting God
So many books today give children false hope through fanciful tales of magic "things". There are some cute stories out there about necklaces that give little girls confidence, or teddy bears that offer security and freedom from fears, even stuffed bunnies who teach lessons of how to love. But I always find myself explaining to my daughters that our true hope and our most lasting lessons, come from the Lord - anytime we are frightened or lonely or disappointed, we can trust that the Lord will comfort us and give us strength.

Celeste Ryan weaves a beautiful mix of sentiment and faith by showing us how we look for something tangible to trust for our comfort (the quilt), but all things of this world will eventually pass away - God is the eternal comforter, healer, confidante, friend.

This book is a favorite in our house. The illustrations are eye-catching and unique, the story is smooth and entertaining, and the message is one that will stick with you. The Dream Quilt may be directed at juveniles, but I guarantee adults will enjoy it, as well

5-0 out of 5 stars The Dream Quilt
This is a sweet story of how a Mom uses the squares on an old quilt to help ease her child's fears at bed time. The illustations are sure to catch a child's eye; they're so colorful. It's a beautiful story and it's a book that's beautiful to look at.

5-0 out of 5 stars Security is Sublime
This book has impressed children of all ages with the security in kowing God's love. I liked the colorful descriptions and the peaceful tone of the book. One child asked me if he could have a quilt with colors so he could dream colorful dreams , too. Awesome book - hope Mrs. Ryan writes more!

This was the very first Dora book I bought for my three year old. The story itself is about a little star that falls down onto the ground and dora and boots have to figure out how to put the star back.
Each page has something on it that is easy to talk about or have kids point out. One page asks you to count the stars on it, and another asks what ideas your child may have to put the star back.
I have to say that this book is not very long and very easy to read. There are four or five spanish words in it too but it is not a big deal if you skip them.
