5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I am very pleased with this bible for my grand daughter. Even though it only recommends up to age 12and she is 14 .I think this is Bible is meant for teens as well. I was just looking it over and could hardly put it down.
Praise The Lord

5-0 out of 5 stars Entices Kids to Read It
I bought this bible for my 10-year-old nephew, who doesn't like to read and is always put off by thick books with few pictures. Because this bible is geared for young people and also has a provocative title, my nephew is more likely to open it up, or at least sit with me while we read it together. I like the approach this bible takes in presenting scripture as an "adventure" and it seems to attract my nephew as well. And, not insignificantly, this version is priced right too. I bought him the paperback edition thinking that I will get him a nice leather-bound bible when he is older and more prepared to take care of a finely bound copy. All in all, a very good bible for a young person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended by our Christian School
This is the Bible most used by students at our private school. Buying a Bible is part of their school supplies, and this one is perfect for many years of learning and enjoying!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Bible for children
I bought each of my children the Adventure Bible, Revised, NIV. My daughters read it every night. This bible is easy for kids to read and understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for family devotions
My 11 year old son has this Bible and we use it to do our family devotions. There are 'Lets Live It' sections that point out a specific Bible passage and then ask some questions to solidify our understanding and make the Bible relevent to our lives today.

Other attractive qualities include "did you know?",with definitions of difficult terms, "words to remember" and "Bible times" all geared to increase undrestanding of God's word. There are also brightly colored pages with the ten commandments, 12 disciples and other important information. There are also maps in the back.

I would recommend it for anyone from 8-15 and parents like it too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great REAL Bible
I bought this Bible for my son (6 y.o) and have been amazed at how well he can read it. Even though he is just learning to read, he is able to use the "rules" he know to figure out most of the words. What a GREAT book to use for someone who's learning to read! He loves it because it's not just stories, he's reading his Bible just like I do. I just wish I had gotten the hardcover.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real Bible for kids
My 7 year old daughter wanted her own Bible, but not just a book of stories, she wanted the full text. With this Bible, she can read and understand the Bible on her own. She devours the daily devotionals, sometimes reading two or three in a day. Even though the text is easy to understand, there are still words she does not understand - The dictionary in the back provides simple definitions for words such as redeem, curse, etc. The subject index allows her to look up subjects she is interested in. If we are talking about how to be a good friend, we just look up friends in the index and read what God has to say.

I recommend this Bible to early readers who want the full text of the Bible without the difficult text of other versions.

5-0 out of 5 stars NIrV Kids Devotional Bible
My grandson who is 7 years old has really taken to reading this Kids version of the Bible. According to my daughter, he loves reading every night before he goes to bed. He reads very well and the Bible stories are well geared to his age group. I appreciate the fact that at his young age he is so interested in reading God's Word and Jesus is becoming so real to him. This is an excellent version for young minds to spark their interest in reading God's word. An answer to the prayer of a Grandmother's heart.

Thanks for the opportunity to list is review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch Out for New Edition With New Author & New Illustrator
Karen Henley's "The Beginner's Bible" is a classic popular children's bible for pre-schooler's and primary grades. Beware that the publisher has come out with a new book by the same title, but with all new text by a different author and all new illustrations. The new book IS NOT the same as nor of the same quality as Karen Henley's original. This is a disappointment, that a publisher such as Zondervan would market an entirely new work by the name of a best selling title. Far too confusing for someone unaware of the differences in the two books. Amazon furthers the confusion by featuring the original Karen Henley version in their Look Inside feature for the new book. This is inaccurate information. This is not a new edition of the same work, but an entirely new book with nothing in common but a title.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great First Bible
The illustrations and length of each story make this just a great kids Bible.Perfect for night time stories. My daughter loves it still.A must get to read to your kids, and they'll be reading it before you know it.

5-0 out of 5 stars it was my first bible
I got this Bible when I was 2 years old. I loved looking at the pictures- and they are very bright and colorful. This Bible first gave me the idea that there was a book about God. When I was a little bit older, It told me that Bible stories were interesting, and not boring and glum like I thought it would be after I looked at my dad's Bible with a black cover. After all, you can't judge a book by it's cover! Now I am 10 years old, and although I have a full text NIV Bible, I still love to look at this bible. I actually have 2 copies of it, because when I was 4 I begged my Mom to get me another copy of this Bible. I am extremely fond of reading, and I still remember the day I read it all by myself, When I was 5. Wasn't I proud! It's very understandable and in clear, big, print. I still treasure it very much, and I absolutely recommend this Bible to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great Bible for young and old
Our daughter received this bible for a baptism present. Because the stories require more of an attention span b/c of the length, we didn't read it to her very much until last year. This year, she will be turning 4 and she loves it! This is a bedtime reading staple in our household. We read at least 5-7 stories each night. It has given both my husband and I a better understanding of the Bible as well. The text is clear and the illustrations are vibrant and engaging. I truly would recommend this story to anyone interested in understanding the Bible a little more...it isn't just for young children!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best early reading Bible I've found
This Bible is written in language that a five year old can understand, has a picture on every page (that's my biggest requirement), and describes more Bible stories than my other kid Bibles at this level, I suppose because it has the most number of pages. My child enjoys listening to me read a little of it every day.The characters all look the same, it seems, but that's a small complaint.Recommended. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Is "evil" too strong a word?
Finally we have sunk to the bottom of barrel in a BIBLE-FOR-PROFIT industry! Here is a Bible that leads one to believe that the primary message of the Gospel is teenage girls in their adolescent self absorption. I have always been against Bibles that cater to a specific market, but this Bible manages to take an already bad concept to an all time low, with a glossy model cover and beauty tips for teenage girls. Inside one will find teenagers skimpily clad in bikinis. I was under the impression that the Bible served to correct the egocentricity and demonic consumerism of our times. I had no idea that we were to pretend this egocentricity were all the while about Almighty God!

It gets worse. If one goes to the Thomas Nelson website, one gets the official justification for this rubbish as being the fact that many teenage girls think that the ordinary Bible is just too "big and freaky looking." Perhaps the cross of our Lord is also too freaky looking? The truth is that most of these teenagers are a figment of the publisher's imagination. My experience as a Minister is that teens seek for the deep things in life, and that we should not believe profit driven companies who stereotype teenage girls as being shallow and self absorbed. Are we truly to believe that the only way to reach a teenage girl is to make the Gospel funky like her lipstick?

I have taken a personal decision with this publication, and that is no longer to support Thomas Nelson publishers, either by buying or reviewing their products. They have lost all credibility in my eyes with what can only be described as utter refuse, and they have prostituted their once good name with sheer devilish tripe.

1-0 out of 5 stars The disturbing evolution of scipture
Though I am not a devout Christian, as many reviewers here are, I am very open to many concepts in the Bible, as well as encouraging of the intellectual study of the New and Old Testaments as vital historical documents.

However, Revolve strays so far from the "word of god" that it is almost sacreligious.

The biggest problem I have with this zine is the sidebars. Take out the "blab," the quizzeses, etc. and you have a New Testament marketable to teenagers. Many followers of Christianity are raised to read the New Testament with the disclaimer that it was written centuries ago and that not all rules necessarily apply to modern day. However, the writers and editors of revolve have taken the New Testament and applied it literally to modern day situations. This is a very dangerous enterprise, people.

For example: one "reader's question" discusses what one should do if they are being sexually abused by a parent or family member. Yet nearly one third of the moral dilemas presented in Revolve can be allegedly solved by simply submitting to what your parents tell you. How can this piece of literature in good conscience acknowledge the existence of abusive and destructive parents, and then turn around and preach the infalliability of thy mother and thy father.

At a time when teens need to learn to think for themselves and make their own decisions, revolve is teaching them that this ability is unecessary--and in some cases sacreligious.

This is an outrage--and I am one reader whose disgust has nothing to do with lack of faith in god

1-0 out of 5 stars Revolve portrays young women as "second best"
Getting young people interested in religion seems to be getting more and more difficult daily. But "Revolve" goes about it in all the wrong ways. Encouraging young women to think it is OK to be subserivient to males may have been encouraged by our Puritan ancestors, but I think almost every woman, Christian or otherwise, would agree that the idea doesn't fly today.

Racist issues illustrated by this publication have also come to my attention, with sidebar "facts" declaring that African-American teens are 40% more likely to have had premarital sex than Caucasian teens. Nowhere are these "facts" credited or sourced.

If your family's ideals and values include women following their husbands instead of walking beside them, or a skewed idea that African-Americans, Hispanics, and any other minority is "less moral" than whites, or "unclean", then this could be the book to give your daughters, nieces, or granddaughters. However, if you would rather raise your daughter (or any other young female you may know) in a more equalized (and as far as I'm concerned, Christ was the most "equal" human being to ever walk the planet) environment, then I suggest you stay away from this book and maybe purchase her a copy of the timeless "Our Bodies, Ourselves", or maybe even a standard bible that isn't geared towards one demographic as a moneymaking scheme designed to pull teenage girls in with a pretty cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best bible for teens EVER!!!
My parents made it a goal for me to read the whole new testiment of the bible. I tried, and couldn't stick to it for ANYTHING! But then i heard about "Revolve" and OMIGOSH! I know i'll have the new testiment read soon! this bible encourages me to read all the time! There are so many fun ideas, tips, and advice for living a Godly life! Plus this version of the new testiment is easy to understand! I LOVE IT TO DEATH!!! All of you teen girls out there would have to be CRAZY not to ADORE this version of the bible!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very well thought up!
I first saw not Revolve, but Refuel, the New Testament for Guys when my good friend got it. I commented it, and he said, "I think there is one for girls, too." I went to my local bookstore and there it was. I bought it with my birthday money (I had turned 13 that day) and started reading it. I liked it from the start. It is very encouraging, and good. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Stories Ever Told
I cannot describe how wonderful the whole Bible is, but it has been a wondeful blessing. While you may have been read Bible stories by your parents at bedtime when you were young, you may not have had all of the stories. But with the whole Bible (both Old and New Testaments) you can get the full story. The Holy Bible has been read for about 2,000 years, and it still has a powerful impact on people. The Bible is the story of God told by man. And because many believe that God spoke through the writers of the Bible, a collection of books, it has been called "The Word of God".

Learn the teaching of the Christian and Jewish faiths with the Bible, which will give you imformation on their beliefs. The Bible is you #1 guide to learning about those two religions, and it is also your #1 guide when learning their cultures, teachings, and morals. For thousands of years, millions of people have been using the Bible as their morality book. With dozens of stories to live by, many people can learn from the Bible. Journey with the Israelite people, told in the Old Testament, as they struggle to live a good and Godly life.

Not only is the Bible the story of God, but it is also the story of man and woman, and how they struggle to avoid sin and do good. To tell the story of evil and sin, the Bible describes the consequences of doing bad things, such as death, suffering, and destruction. When there is sin, there is death. But the Bible is also a book of hope and happiness, which describes the happiness of good people, the joy of the world, and hope for bad people. It describes the forgiveness given to evil people who turn away from their wickedness. The Bible is also a book of poetry, which includes the Book of Psalms and the majestic and moral Book of Proverbs.

With many of those things, the Bible is a book that many can benefit from. Yes, people can misinterpret it, just as the Taliban misinterpreted Islam, but study and understanding of God's word can help you understand it. It will last forever!

5-0 out of 5 stars Think of it as a "fantasy epic" mixed with history.
First let me say that The Bible was easily the most challenging, thought provoking, and difficult book I have ever read by far. The length alone will drive most people away. Finishing this book for me was truly a test of character.

In a nutshell, the Bible is this: God creates man, man sins. It then proceeds through the history of God's people, the birth of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, whose twelve sons would form the twelve tribes of Israel, the exodus of the enslaved out of Egypt. The rule of Judges and later the rule of kings, the division of the kingdom into two separate nations, Israel and Judah, the sin of God's people, the captivity by Babylon and Assyria. During the captivity, the prophets spoke of a messiah. The New Testament, and Jesus is proclaimed this messiah, and, along with his disciples, gives the plan for salvation of God's people as well as the Gentiles (non Jews). The Bible wraps up with the end of the world and the new heaven and earth.

Throughout the year or so where I read The Bible, I shifted between translations, Some NIV and some KJV. I have never been a religious person, in fact, I am pretty much an atheist, but I won't lie, I did ponder the existence of God while reading. If I got anything out of this, it is inspiration to be as charitable as I can be within my means. Jesus is the shining example of this.

The Bible, though written by many people over a long time, as a whole truly tells a fantastic story. It is simply the greatest story ever told, and has inspired billions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Portable - the size of a paperback novel.
That's what I like best about this Bible. You can read it easily - it's not too big and heavy, the pages aren't too thin. Plus the cover is very cute and makes it look just like a regular book. NIV means it's been translated into easy-to-understand English. The Book of Revelation is especially easier to read than in other translations.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent alternative
I do a lot of driving (4 hours/day) and these tapes help me stay in the Word. It doesn't replace reading the Bible, but when you spend so much time in a car every day it is the next best thing to reading the Word. I like the dramatization in the Gospels and the background music. Also the narrator is very easy on the ears. I would highly recommend this audio Bible for anyone who can't seem to get enough time to read the Good Book.

1-0 out of 5 stars disheartened
I purchased this set of tapes because I desperately need to find God. I've been assured the search begins with his WORD. This production is an impediment to that search. The words are read without interpretation, sometimes so fast that it is obvious a task is being hurried through. The same characterless music is repeated ad nauseum. Compare this with Max McLean's performances and you will never want to listen to a "solely for profit" production like this one again. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "Kid's" Bible? GREAT for young teens - NOT for preteens.
If you are looking for a Bible that is easy to understand (this is the New Living Translation which reads very much like the Living Bible) for a "kid," i.e., preteen, you might want to look for a different Bible than this. My wife and I both believe this would be a great first Bible for a young teen not raised in a godly home, but several of the themes in the "Sticky Situations" are a little to "sticky" for a preteen. (Our credentials for this assessment? A married daughter with 3 children, a 23 year old son, a 15 year old son, and 20 years of ministry combined with the academic ingredients, blah, blah blah!) :)

A few of the "Sticky Situations" from the approximately 50 that are found at various places in the "Kid's Bible" that make this Bible more suitable for a teen than a preteen...

Example #1: This one is placed in the Song of Solomon on page 730..."A few years ago, you weren't interested in the opposite sex. In fact, you didn't want anything to do with them. Lately, however, you've been changing and have even found yourself thinking about love and sex. The DJs on your favorite radio station talk about sex all the time..."

Example #2: On page 1012..."Lately, you've been having fun with some of the kids who live a few blocks away. You've spent some time with them after school and on the weekend. Recently, they have been talking about forming a club. The only problem is that there's an initiation..."

Example #3: On page 1221..."You are not allowed to see PG-13 movies. When you asked your parents if you could go to a movie tonight, they said OK because the movie is rated G. Your dad drops you and your friends off at the theater, and you all buy your tickets. But once inside, your friends walk past the G movie and head for one rated PG-13..."

The "Sticky Situations" vignettes are a helpful way to encourage the young reader to evaluate their heart in light of God's Word using real life situations, and for that it is very commendable, but not for a preteen.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointed In Bible.
I recently purchased this bible for my 10 year old son. My husband and I both have life application bibles and love them. I'm sorry to say while there are some good attributes to this bible...overall I was disapointed. It is missing some key things: this is not a red letter bible therefore making it very difficult for a child to know when exactly Jesus is speaking, it's missing a dictonary & concordance in the back and most of all it's missing the one thing that's makes an application bible an application bible...it's missing ALL the explanations for verses etc at the bottom of the page! If you're just looking for a basic bible w/out red letter this would be perfect for you. But, if you are buying it thinking you're getting an actual life application bible I'm afraid you'll be greatly disapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Bible for any kid!
This Bible is arranged and translated in a way that will allowkids to study on their own or with family and friends. Also, with themany features of this Bible, kids will be able to read about certain people more in depth, apply Biblical principles in their lives, and start thinking about theological issues. This is a great Bible for any child, whether they have been raised in church or are just beginning. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Children's Bibles!
"Mom, do I HAVE to read the Bible?" Many parents have heard that question more than once. Why? Because until recently, there have been few Bibles that invoke the curiosity of children as this Bible has.

I am a Children's Ministry Director from the state of Washington, and have had the privilege to work with children for about five years now. One of the greatest things that breaks my heart is to see a child not interested in one of the greatest books of all-time: the Bible. Many children will not bring a Bible to church for one of two reasons: they either don't have one, or the one they have is too difficult for them to understand.

The Adventure Bible for Young Readers is not only phrased in such a way that children can understand it, but it is visually appealing to children ages 6 to 12. I purchased this Bible a little over a month ago, and even I can't put it down! It's easy to understand and fun to read! The NIrV has become the standard I use for teaching kids (ages first through sixth grades).

If your child enjoys reading their current Bible as much as they enjoy taking medicine, then this Bible is a must-have for your household!

3-0 out of 5 stars Full-Color Illustrations? Where?
One of the main reasons we bought this Bible for our son, besides the fact that he needed a version he could read on his own, was because the jacket advertized "full-color illustrations". But this is not true. The illustrations are two-color ink, and the text is typed in a mint green---not easy on the eyes! We ended up returning this Bible to the store for a more kid-friendly Bible.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was very disappointed with the Adventure Bible for Young Readers. I purchased them for use in Sunday school, and I had to return them. Although the translation is acceptable, the "helps," "blurbs," and editorial comments were filled with misinformation and theological interpretations inconsistent with our church's theology. This Bible could probably be used in a church that is extremely conservative, but in my opinion mainstream churches will not find it palatable.

4-0 out of 5 stars May not be appropriate for all denominations
Providing a Bible translation for young readers is a great idea. Like most "study Bibles," however, this one contains supplemental material which is based upon the editors' beliefs and may or may not agree with a particular view of Scripture-- usually not a problem, because comparing your own beliefs and someone else's with what God has actually said can help you grow-- but for the young children that are the intended audience here, this edition may be a source of confusion. Critical thinking is generally not a skill common to a 6-10 year old child. Finding a lack of agreement between what he has been taught and what he has read can be disturbing. For example, if you have been taught that baptism is an immersion in water, an act of obedience to God, for the remission of sins, you might be disturbed to find this definition for baptism in the glossary of this Bible: "to sprinkle, pour or cover a person with water as a sign that the person belongs to Jesus Christ." For many denominations, of course, such a definition makes perfect sense, but since not every point of doctrine is the same for every group, it would be a good idea to know what you're giving to your child.

This edition, by the way, was not produced by the NIV committee-- some of the same members worked on it, but not all. That may be the reason why some of the words added to the actual text (in an attempt to clarify ideas for young readers) may bear subtle bias or even be confusing in themselves. In one place, part of I John 4:7 was changed from "he who loves is born of God," to "anyone who loves is born again because of what God has done." I'm not quite sure that's the same idea... but I could be wrong.

Overall, of course, this book is great for kids who want to learn from the real Bible by reading it themselves, and not just from some illustrated storybook. Before you buy it for your own child, however, you might to do as the Bereans did in Acts 17, and "examine the Scriptures" for yourself to see if what the editors have added to the text has not added to or taken away from the truth. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The coolest teen Bible you'll find
This is a very cool Bible for teens and I wish I had owned one of these when I was a teen! I looked at a number of Bibles designed for teenagers before settling on the "Teen Study Bible" for our church youth group. Everything about this Bible is simply cool. Little things, like the chapter numbers or the page numbers, have a cool hip design to them. There are pull-out quotes and "quizzer' questions that highlight important passages. The best thing about the Teen Study Bible is that it takes the Word of God to a level that teens can not only relate to, but understand and not only understand, but understand how the scriptures apply to their lives. "Dear Sam" letters address issues that teens face with Godly advice, for instance. Other parts have entire pages dedicated to specific topics like Prayer, Self Image and Dating.
Quite frankly, this is a fun Bible. It's colorful, visually appealing and is cool enough for teens to throw into their book bags and take with them. I highly recommend it for any teen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bible Ever!!!
I'm a 13-year-old, and I was looking for a cool teen bible to read, so that I could understand it a little better. I found this one, and started reading it. It's the best bible ever made for teens!! I can't see how it can get any better! the side notes help me understand it more, and I love reading the bible now! If you are looking for a friendly Bible that makes God's word more clear, get this bible!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you WANT to read the Bible...
The Bible normally seems confusing, rigid, and boring. This Bible is quite the opposite! The bible is colorful, easy-to read and UNDERSTAND! It definately makes the bible enjoyable and fun. The notes and other added things really help teens. I got this Bible as a 18 year old and still interesting at 19(although I am thinking about up-grading to a Woman's Bible).

Definately recommend to any pre-teen or teen!

5-0 out of 5 stars OMIGOD, this bible, like, ROCKS!
My mom says that when she was, like, a teen or something, she couldn't understand the bible because it said like "Thou" and stuff and other words that sound like books written by old people. That's why she went to the mall and got me this bible because it's more, like, modern or something? Whatever -- it ROCKS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Christian Rock
Being 14 years old I thought that the only Christan stuff cool enough for me was hardcore Chirstan rock. This book has proved me wrong. Know I know that BEHOLD THE BOOGNISH! I WILL CONQUER YOU AND YOUR PATHIC SHEEPISH WAYS everything about the Bible is totally awesome!... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Read with Me Bbile
I picked this book up as an impulse buy about three years ago and began reading it to my then two year old daughter. At first I was a bit surprised by the violence of the stories. (The scarry snake in the garden of Eden, Abel killed his brother Cain, God flooded the world and everything living thing was wiped out, etc). After comparing it to a full version Bible, I realized how closely it follows the real text. And so we continued reading, with me doing some pretty heavy editing.

Well, my daughter just loved her Bible book. It wasn't long until we had read the whole thing cover to cover. Not only did we read it through another time or two, she then had her favorite stories that we read night after night.

Now that her brother has turned two, we've started from the beginning again. He's not quite as intranced as she was... I think we're dealing with a different level of attention span. But he's listening and it's quality time.

Everybody's right... the pictures in the book are great; the kids love them. It's not an "alls-happy-with-the-world" book of bible stories, but it is true to the full versions they'll be studying later.

I'm going back to buy a second book as ours is completely worn out and pages are falling out.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Good Book is a Good Book
Recommended Age: 3-5 (the back of the book recommends 4-8). I have to disagree with the statements that this book's descriptions diminish the intent of the stories. Reading some of the stories of the bible to a child at that age is tedious enough. To bog the storylines down with detail at that age bores the child. They don't exactly have the patience of a "saint". I agree that this is a good preschool version though. By eight years old I was using an adult Bible and memorizing passages. I imagine my son will probably be pretty bright at that point also. I seriously doubt he will be using this Bible except as a cross reference. As for the book itself the illustrations are rather entertaining and in some cases comedic. They are very colorful and eye-catching for a 3-5 year old. As stated before, the storylines are easy to follow and don't dwell to deeply which caters to night time reading when a child is most receptive to stories. Another plus is that it intelligently smoothes the corners on some of the more violent or touchy subjects within the text of a standard Bible. If you want the whole story including the graphic nature of Christ's death you should just buy a regular Bible and attempt a translation for you child. Personally, I don't feel a child the age of three necessarily needs a detailed description of what a scourging with a metal tipped whip is or the knowledge that spikes were driven into His hands. Allow children to be children and innocent for a few years. The brutality of human violence and stupidity will become painfully evident as they get older anyway. All in all I thought this was an excellent, entertaining, educational first Bible for teaching my son the Word of God. Hope those that read this post will find it to their liking also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read to Me Bible
We have this Bible and it's great to read to small children. It is written so that kids can understand it and the pictures are excellent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nicely illustrated; oversimplified Bible stories
I find that my young sons pay better attention when I read Bible stories from a book with good illustrations. This book's illustrations are colorful and engaging. But the stories are simplified, sometimes to the point of diminishing the story's intended message.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy-to-read, attractive summary of Bible stories.
The stories are familiar, and the book is not a complete Bible. Struggling teen readers have read it like a "chapter book". Put it on a bookshelf with other books in a classroom or library and it will be pulled off and at least flipped through. It has also been chosen by adults who are emergent readers of English lacking the reading skills to delve into an NIV or Living Bible. The pictures look like animated drawings. Would make a nice gift for either type of reader. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding achievement, buy this and not a "spin off"
As an early childhood program director for a large church and the parent of children who were reluctant readers, I was truly impressed with this outstaning children's bible. It proved to be a favorite devotional bible in our household from age 4 through age 9.

V. Gilbert Beers is an expert in christian education and understands children's developmental needs. When it first came out, this bible nicely filled the gap between publications for early childhood and the primary grades. Beers has created a text that builds word upon word, skill upon skill, just as a good school reading series does. The biblical text is accurate and engaging and is accompanied by wonderful colorful illustrations that enhance the stories with visual cues that aid reading comprehension. I also found this bible is a good choice for older children with reading delays. The pages are laid out with children's visual skills in mind and are easily "taken in" by children with visual/perceptual difficulties. Each chapter ends with an interactive section of things to think about and try. Children can act on what they've read immediately, and that's what children like! I've known 4 years olds who can begin to read words from this text on their own, and six year olds that can master it and read it to their friends. I have recommended this book to dozens of parents and Sunday school leaders looking for an appropriate bible for chidren ages 4 through 8.

Don't bother with the "knock offs" you'll find with similar titles; they don't hold a candle to this original and best of it's kind. There are, however, two other worthwhile and engaging bibles I've found that pay close attention to fun use of language or reading skills: The Rhyme Bible, and the Growing Reader's Phonics Bible. But, the Early Readers Bible remains my all around favorite for this developmental group. A great choice for cozy bedtime reading aloud to your two through 9 year olds, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Gold'n' Honey Book.
This is the type of Bible that not only is awesome for little children, but it is also great for the young and older teenager, Along with the Mature Adult(man & woman) who really never learned anything in CCD due to those silly controlling instructors, etc. If you want a fun, loving, inspirational and motivating Bible to learn about Jesus Christ, then this Bible is for You! The cartoon illustrations along with the selected Biblical stories are simplified so you may understand the big picture(that everything in life is about caring and love)." The Early Reader's Bible; A Bible to Read All By Yourself" is recommended to all parents, kids, teenagers, and adults. This is fun reading and emotionally touching. Get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
I exchanged The Eager Reader's Bible by Daniel J. Hochstatter and Daryl J. Lucas for this book, and am glad I did.

The illustrations are far more serious and respectful of the text than are those in Eager Reader, and the authors have created a short series of questions to follow each story, such as "Why should you try to please God in all that you do?" or "How do you know when something is bad?" The questions allow a parent or a Sunday School teacher to help young children reflect upon and absorb the Bible story he's just read or heard.

When I asked my 6 year old why we try to please God he answered with a question, saying, "Because God is our boss?" Although that would be a good answer for some (I'm not suggesting it's wrong) in my faith we lean toward the notion that we aim to please God because He is the ultimate source of wisdom and goodness. God knows what is right and what is wrong, and we try to please him in order to do right.

My son and I were able to talk about this only because the questions were there. I wouldn't have thought of them on my own, and I think the questions are both profound and developmentally on-target. The authors have insights into children's understanding of God that probably few of us parents do.

It is also the best choice for a new reader. My son is a just-turned-six year old who learned to read about 6 months ago. The book is designed along the lines of an "I Can Read" book. Each story has a short list of new words on the first page, and at the back of the book the authors provide a "Basic Words List" and a "New Words List." The back cover says that the text features "250 basic words used in public school early reader books" as well as "200 new words including Bible vocabulary, with fewer than five new words introduced in each story." My son can read this Bible on his own whereas the Eager Reader Bible would have been too hard.

This is a wonderful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great bedtime reading with my 2 year old
Initially we started reading this to my toddler because he loved his Noah's Ark board books, and I wanted to read him a more in-depth story. Then, we've expanded to all the stories of the Bible. He now finishes the sentances for me! This is the book I will give all my son's playgroup frineds, as it is colorful and simple, yet interesting for them. As my son grows, it will be a simple move to step him up to a complete Bible. Even at 2 years of age, we have been able to talk about things in our Christian walk thanks to the discussion started with one of these stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginner readers
I bought this for my daughter who can manage lots of small words. This book is constructed so that it gives the child confidence in reading without lots of help. Each chapter introduces a new set of vocabulary words. The part that I really like is the review pages at the end of each chapter that test the comprehension of what has been read and that invite the child to consider how the story applies to his life. These have lead to some pretty great discussions with my daughter that I doubt I would have had otherwise. My only complaint is that the stories lack so much detail that my daughter often says "But what happened in between?" and "It says that God punished them, but how?" Even with that, though, this book is still a winner! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Take the Caucasian drawings with a grain of salt...
A few people have blasted this book for being inaccurate and racist. Granted, it IS visually biased for Northern Europeans. It was first written in the 1960s when multi-culturalism didn't exist. That's why Jesus and other important characters are blonde when of course in reality they couldn't have been. Children of color will have a harder time appreciating this Bible, but the stories really are excellent if they give them a try. If you can explain to your child why the pictures aren't quite right, the rest of this Children's Bible is a wonderful way to introduce the entire Bible to younger readers.
My grandmother explained to me that God appears as we expect Him to appear, and that's why some drawings of Jesus show Him blonde and others show Him dark. That explanation was enough to satisfy me and I loved this Bible when I was a child.
This Bible is so complete that I was able to blow my Pastor's own children away when it came to knowing what was in the Bible. The text is easy to understand for most 7 y/o or older kids and almost every important Bible story is in here.
Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. The stories in this book are good enough to that you should try to overlook its one major flaw.

2-0 out of 5 stars Offensive, racist, inaccurate
I bought this because it was recommended in a Catholic homeschooling book. I was initially impressed by the beautiful art in the Old Testament section. Imagine my shock when I discovered Jesus, a middle Eastern man, depicted with blond hair and blue eyes! Of course, no one of us has actually seen Jesus, but since he was born a Jew, it is highly unlikely that he had this coloring. The text is nothing remarkable. It is not particularly friendly to very young children. I found Today's English version of the Bible (American Bible Society) to be much more suitable for a child without unnecessarily "dumbing down" the message. I have a feeling that I will be selling this book to a second hand store pretty soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Golden Children's Bible: by Joseph Miralles (Illustrator)
After reading the reviews and impressed with the front of the book cover, I decided to get this book as a gift for one of the children at the church.

The cover depicts people of ethnicity, however the pictures inside tell a different story. For example, Jesus, a Jew, is characterized by blond hair and blue eyes; the Queen of Sheba, a white woman, only to name a few. NOT SO!

If a writer is going to tell history, the words as well as the pictures should depict the truth!

I give this book a rating of 1 star based on the pictures, not the contents. I returned the book for that reason!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great way to intoduce children to the bible
This is a beautiful children's bible, the pictures are very colorful and it is well illustrated. The reading is easy and clear, but you might have to help your child on some of the names in the old testament,Which we all know can be hard to pronounce. It really brings new meaning to the old testament having pictures because if you teach children anything about the bible they find it more interesting with pictures.Plus they are more likely to remember the stories better.I will be ordering another copy in a couple of years for my niece to introduce her to the bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful
Of all the books I read as a child, few stand out in my mind as much as this wonderful edition of the Bible. The illustrations are realistic and fascinating to young minds. This Bible is a must have for families with young children who are just beginning to learn about Christianity. All in all, this book is worthy of family treasure status, to be loved by many generations to come. ... Read more

Within the pages of this plainspoken Bible, young readers will find a year's worth of teen-written devotionals, one for every day of the work week. For example, in the opening section on Genesis, teens will find a shaded box for Monday's devotional, asking the reader what it means to be made in God's image. "Do you ever put yourself down for the way you look? What are you saying to God when you put down what he made?" Little boxes of text are inserted throughout the Scripture, where teens either suggest devotionals or discuss themes in the Bible. In another box, teens comment on the relationship between Adam and Eve: "The 'two becoming one' thing involves a lot more than sex. It involves two lives becoming one--two stories becoming one."The language, graphics, and frank discussion in this teen-oriented Bible make it a great resource for youth groups. It also makes a loving gift for teenagers who need help understanding how the Bible translates into the stressful world of adolescence. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent devotional bible
This is an excellent devotional Bible. The first reviewer who doesn't like the Bible because it condemns witchcraft is completely ignorant of New Testament Greek, and seems to dislike anything that cramps their lifestyle or beliefs. The NIV is an excellent translation based on the oldest and best manuscripts and translatedby people who actually know Greek, and don't use alternate definitions that don't reflect the true text in order to make things that are condemned by the Bible seem accaptable. If you want your kids to learn what the Bible says, and not what a Wiccan wants it to say, this is a great devotional Bible.

1-0 out of 5 stars When will Bibles ever be translated with accuracy
Our world is so filled with miss and false information I am again shocked by the blatent false translations that show up for Christian readers.I was doing a research project on Witchcraft of which there is so much mis-information out there it is amazing. Amazon popped up a reference in this book to Gal 5:20 which inserts the word "Witchcraft", in a list of things that are bad.

If you take the time to look up in a Greek Interlinerary you'll find the greek word is "farmakeia", meaning in essence "neuter
"ass" or "donkey".Has nothing to do with witchcraft.

Just like good ol' King James - changing "suffer not a "poisoner" (aka assasin) to live, to "suffer not a witch to live" this one old testiment change was used to kill and torture people. (The Dark Ages people - Christianity spread by blood, fear and torture - both Catholics and Prodestant "inquisitors".A history that has yet to be owned by the religions of the world.

Translators and religions have "NO" authority to CHANGE the Holy Scriptures, and this kind of garbage is the root of racism, hatered, misunderstanding, and discrimination on our planet.

They've all done this and unless your reading from an interlinerary your "intepretation" is subject to false teachings and translations.

Teach your kids to understand world religions and their people, don't build in biases that cause fear, hatered and division.

This book gets a two thumbs down.

If your going to write to kids, at least have the courage to translate based on accuracy of "Gods Word", don't present propaganda embedded translations as "The Word of God".

We have enough war going on the planet to deal with.In America we are offended when foreign countries teach their children to "Hate" Americans, and Christians and Jews because they mis-translate their religious writings and teach it with auhtority to their children.Christians are and have been doing the same here in America and around the world. This kind of "command and control" manipulation and false teachings have to stop.

This translation as well as the bible you probably have read from all your live, does just that - embeds false teachings and doctrines to support religious views not "God's Word", it's blasphemy at it's ugliest and it has been such since the beginning.Do your own research, don't take my word for it, and quit being sheep, take responsibilty for "truth".Contextually a "sheep" can never become a Shepard.Your a "Child of God" - consider this context - your not to be a sheep, you are to "Grow up!". Next time someone wants to be your "Shepard" think about any sheep you know that can be promoted to that position...Don't be a sheep. It's time for that baloney and false teaching to also be recognized for what it is.

Don't bias your kids with false doctines, it just is not right.Take the time to get it right.

Most of you who may be reading this review may not see or understand this because you have been raised from birth with religious falsehoods and biases taught to you as "The Word of God", the cover of most Bibles say "King Jame's Version" or based there, read the cover, and you'll see who's it is.Besides, Jesus nor the Apostles were "Greek", dah, think about it.

Good stuff in the bible, Jesus's life amazing - he set a powerful example in his life - any scripture, doctrine, dogma or teaching that goes against his life example should be researched and viewed with a critical eye.

Learn the Divinity Filter from "The Church of What Works" to sort out Divine teachings from man made and inspired manipulations.

Teach your kids not to fear, teach them love, teach them their power as Christians - teach them to be healers - teach them Jesus' example.Do the same yourself :)

God bless you all, in Jesus' name or by whatever tradition you can relate too.

- David

5-0 out of 5 stars This bible is so good, I just keep buying it
When my kids asked to buy their own bible five years ago I was so excited. We got right in the car and went to the Christian bookstore. My kids looked at several student and teen bibles, and this is the one they chose. It is an awesome blend of devotions, teen stories, neat information, and the Bible in contemporary english. They were immediately attracted to the bold colors and the layout. We purchased two.

Through the years we have had an opportunity to buy or suggest this bible to other teens, too.Cousins, friends, and youth at the church.I think I have personally purchased about 6 of them.Buy one for your teen! You won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Bible geared toward today's teens
My teenage daughter got bored and frustrated with her King James study Bible; this Bible has been such a blessing to her because of it's readability and understandability.Let's face it...the KJV of the Bible is difficult and tedious even for the most scholarly person...what's important is that my daughter now immerses herself in the Word and reads it daily.I highly recommend this Bible as a gift to your favorite teeneager; It brings the Word alive and is geared especially toward teenagers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
The Bible part of this book is just like any other- and that is how it needs to be! 5-0 out of 5 stars The Word, in a super cool, super portable edition
This the cleverest design for a teenager's Bible I've ever seen. It comes in 3 terrific colors: Silver with the semblance of a flip-top can embossing and "Thirsty ?" written on it, a neon apple green with a name tag embossing and "Identified", and a wonderful bright orange with a "One-Way" arrow.
It has a magnetic flap, and the back and front covers are hinged; the entire package looks very sturdy and is quite light.
As expected in such a slimline format, the font size is small, though I've seen worse in Bibles of this proportion, and if you have good vision (or good spectacles) there shouldn't be a problem; after all, this is a travel Bible, not a study version.
Other details to this Bible are: It does not have the words of Jesus in red, and the only "extras" are three handy lists in the back of the volume: "Great Topics in the Bible", "Great Stories in the Bible", and "Great Verses in the Bible".

This "Metal Bible" should not be limited to teens either; it would be a worthy investment for any adult who works with or teaches young people, or one that just wants a nifty stylish Bible for their briefcase or purse. The Word: Take it with you wherever you go, and look cool doing it !

The New Living Translation is ideal for young people, as it reads in the same plain and simple language that would be used in a novel. This makes an excellent introduction to scripture, and one that will bring the Bible to life in words that are easy to understand.
Mark 10:14
New Living Translation: "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them ! For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these".
King James Version: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God"
New King James Version: "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God".

5-0 out of 5 stars Youth Leader? This is a great purchase!
I work with teens. The Bible I've been using is sooooo beat up from being shoved in a backpack on the way to camp, to work, to Bible studies, or to a Young Life club. I just bought this(in the orange "one way" version)and plan on taking it with me everywhere! It's small (mentioned by another reader), but very "readable". I'm excited because this Bible should survive getting "attacked" from the random pens floating around in my purse/backpack. It's light enough I can take it anywhere! I plan on taking it to the mall to get it engraved w/ my name! Woo hoo! I can't wait to use this Bible to do a club talk at Young Life.....

Take care all! Happy reading! Fight the good fight!

God bless!

5-0 out of 5 stars God's Word -- Totally Hip and Sleek
Who thought of this idea? (Not the Bible -- but the metal binding it is in.) The binding is just an awesome addition to an all ready wonderful translation. The New Living Translation is very readable and easily understandable. And now I see there are four different designs of the metal Bible to choose from. This is a great gift for anyone who is ready for an exciting Bible adventure.

4-0 out of 5 stars My teenager loves it
I bought this Bible for my teenager at the end of the school year. When I first saw this Bible I thought my daughter was'nt going to like because of the small print. But she thought it looked cool and with the metal case it did'nt look like any other Bible she had seen before. The first time she took it to her youth group it was a hit, everyone wanted to know where she got it. Now she reads it more than any other Bible she's owned, it's very easy to under stand. With the help of one of those credit card looking plastic magnifing glasses she has no problem studying her lessons. It's price is just about right and I don't have to buy a cover for it and it's very tough (she droped it a few times and it can take the punishment she gives it, only had to bend it back in shape one time, very easy). I only wish that they made them bigger, thats why I only give it 4 stars, because it is difficult for me to read without a magnifing glass but every teen and young adult that we know likes it.

4-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I had a hard time giving this book only 4 stars, but I wish it had a version that came with apocryphal texts.

This version is meant to target teens, which I am not. However I just love it. The metal slips easily in and out of my purse. No zipper to wear out, no leather to scuff. Another reader mentions the tiny print. It IS small, but very clear. Some of us older "teens" may need reading glasses. Thankfully I'm not yet there... ... Read more
