5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - AND Durable TOO
I don't usually do reviews, but this book has survived for 3.5 yrs now which is unusual for the "lift the flap books". I have 16 mo twins and my little girl twin likes these kinds of books but finds them to be the "lift and rip and tear" books. Not so with this book - the flaps have actually survived her curiosity and destructiveness! And of course, we all love Bear, Tutter and his friends. A worthwhile purchase for your kids library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Little Kids
I bought this book for my 15 month-old son, and he adores it. Of his many children's books this book is one of his favorites by far. The pages are easy for little hands to turn, it is a steardy board book, and the flaps are easy to lift and fun for small children. The illustrations are bright and colorful, so it keeps the attention span of little ones. He especailly loves to open the big flap at the end of the book that reveals Luna, the moon. If your child likes Bear in the Big Blue House and Lift- the-Flaps books, they will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN ESSENTIAL COMPANION FOR BEAR LOVERS
.

If your pre-schoolers love " Bear in the Big Blue House" on TV, they will adore this book.

Jim Henson has over the years created some very lovable characters. The Bear has to be one of the best so far.

In this "Lift the Flap" book we get to meet all Bear's friends. We have Pip and Pop covered in suds in the bath. And then there's Treelo under the bed covers and Ojo under the sofa.

Open the shutters and look out the attic window. Who do we see? It's our special friend Luna.

A perfect bed time book for the young ones.

"Good night, my friend" says Bear.

.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great book for 1 & 1/2 year olds and up.
This book is a great adjunct to the TV show. As new parents we are just learning about ALL the kids shows. We can't stand the Purple Dino, So we like Tele-Tubbies and such. We discovered this show on the Disney Channel and Our child likes The Big Bear, Luna the Moon, and all the songs.

As for the Flaps, as all parent know or will find out, little kids will pull them off if not watched when they play with the books on their own

She can already find all the characters by name and loves to point to them as we say the names, since she still has a Caveman vocabulary. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid, but not excellent, choice
Our son is just beginning the process of toilet training. This book brings forward familiar characters. The pictures are colorful, the word choice is good and the story is good for youngsters. It gets a bit long, but my son stays with it.

I always prefer books that are board pages and not paper so we can let him have the book for his own parousal without supervision. I see this as the only drawback on what is becoming a favorite for my son.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for older toddlers!
If, like me, you have an older toddler, who understands the concept of using the potty, but isn't fully trained yet, this is a GREAT book! My 3 yr old daughter just loves the idea of becoming a Toileteer. We read this book every day. So far, no other book has motivated her the way this one has. However, if you are just starting potty learning, you might want to get another book to go with this one, a book that would explain more about how to use the potty. I don't think this would be an effective book for a child who had no clue what the potty was. But for a child who has the basic idea down, and just needs a little reassurance, this is an awesome book. My favorite part is the end, where Luna reassures kids that they can still be kids, and Mommy and Daddy will still take care of them, even when they use the potty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Potty Concepts
If your child enjoys books a little on the longer side, than this one might be for him/her. The story is nearly identical to the "Potty Time" video, if you have seen it. The only difference I noticed is that it also includes a brief discussion by Bear to Treelo about where it all goes (through the plumbing).
The story also includes the idea that accidents do happen sometimes (as they do with Ojo in the story), as well as what to say when you're not at home and you have to use the bathroom, and remembering to flush (along with the other processes of using the potty). Included is a special "toileteer" sticker with Pip and Pop on it.
My (just-turned) 2 year old has just begun the potty training process, and she asks me repeatedly to read this book to her while she is sitting on the potty.

4-0 out of 5 stars reassurance rather than training
This is not a terribly effective book for training a youngster to use the toilet, but it is very reassuring and answers questions about the process. While I think it is too wordy for little ones, I like that handwashing and flushing are mentioned several times and the picture of the pipes taking the pee and poop away is interesting. Tutter, Ojo and Treelo all use the big toilet, and Pip and Pop induct them into the Toileteers. (A Toileteer sticker is included with the book.) In conclusion, Bear and Luna discuss how growing up doesn't mean you won't be cared for and loved.

Not the best book for teaching -- for that use Sears' excellent 'You Can Go to the Potty' -- but a gentle reassuring book for kids who might be a little skeptical about the whole process. Good luck, Toileteer parents!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toilet-training book for parents and kids
You or your child(ren) do not have to be fans of "Bear in the Big Blue House" to use and appreciate this very helpful book. (I'm lucky that it's my 2½ year-old's favorite show). The pictures and words are uncomplicated and easy for children to understand, and I like that when covering the basic bodily functions, they used the words "poop" and "pee" rather than cutesy names. It's not really gender-specific, since it doesn't cover or show genitalia/ differences between boys and girls, but it handles everything else in a fun and educational manner. Parents may also like how it emphasizes wiping and hand washing after using the toilet, and it shows (with a clever illustration) where poop and pee go when flushed away. There's even a Toileteers Club that the characters form at the end, and the book comes with a Toileteer sticker as a bonus. There are plenty of reassurances along the way: that accidents happen, and that's normal and OK; that it's alright to leave what you're doing to go to the potty, and your things will still be there when you come back; and that giving up diapers does not mean that the other great things about being a kid--like cuddles and hugs and love from mommy and daddy--go away. The episode this is based on is also available on video, and is equally good. Very highly recommended, along with "Once Upon a Potty" (separate books and videos for girls and boys) and "The Potty Book," also separate for boys and girls. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Potty Over "Going Potty"
My two-year-old daughter and I are great fans of Bear, and when she started toilet training, I debated over whether to get this book or the video. I figured a large colourful interactive book featuring all the BBBH characters facing the psychological challenges of switching from diapers to potty would be great inspiration and entertainment resource that my daughter could read while she sat on her potty. When we received the book, I was very disapointed. All we got was a small cardboard book with uninteresting flaps and difficult to use magic wheel containing a short story about Ojo going to the toilet before visiting at a friend's house. My two year old is already very familiar with the mechanics of using a toilet...we want to see all the characters explaining why going to the toilet is worth the effort of overcoming the fears and reservations toilet trainers have in learning this new skill. I hear the video is very good....you're most likely better off getting that instead.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Going Potty" - the not very interesting interactive book
We have Bear tapes, cd's and books. We LOVE Bear, but we don't love this book. The story line is very specific but not anywhere as good as the plot in the TV episode "Potty Time".

First, the flaps are uninteresting. In one Ojo merely moves her hands to her crotch (one supposes to indicate that she has to 'go'. And in another, Ojo holds Snowbear up higher. Boring for me and my 2 year old daughter. [There is also a pull tab which in one case lowers a stool to the ground, and in another lengthens TP hanging off a roll. Wow!]

Second, where there is innovation, it is difficult to use. There is a wheel which makes it look as if water is running in a toilet & in a sink where Ojo is washing her hands- the mechanism is difficult to use, even for me.

Perhaps this is book is just age inappropriate for us.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Feed your child's mind with Bear!
Our toddler loves Bear and can often be looking at one of her Bear books. Before dinner each evening she wants us to read Bear Loves Food!

In this Bear book Bear talks about different types of food that he loves. He shows that a good variety of foods are just as much his favorites as others. He also introduces Pip, Pop, Treelo, Ojo, and Tutter and their favorite foods.

Bear Loves Food is one of our favorites and I am sure it can be one of yours too!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute book - My Son LOVES it!
This book is great- Luna lights up, which my son loves. My only complaint about the book is it isn't very long. Overall- it makes my 3 yr old happy which is all that matters. We just read the book a couple times in a row and he is ready for bed! He likes to spin Luna in the dark. Luna is his favorite character and we jumped at the chance to buy a book especially about her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inventive Glowing Book and Charming Sleeping Characters
My 2 year old loves the glow Luna gives off when she is spun. One side shows Luna with her eyes open. The other side shows Luna with her eyes closed. The light stays on for probably about 5 seconds each time she is spun.
The story is on the shorter side, which is perfect for the younger ones or those with shorter attention spans. The best part is the delightful pictures of Luna checking in on each adorable sleeping character.
If your child is a huge Luna or moon fan, like mine is, then this may be the book for him or her. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What's in Bear's Big Blue House?
What a wonderful book for young readers just learning to read. Within this book you take a tour through Bear's house exploring room by room naming different items in each room. My 11 month old daughter has fun trying to find "Bear's" friends in each room. The words in the book are so simple to read and learn. The illustrations that they have chosen for each word are excellent and very clear for the reader to understand what the item(word) is. When you read this book you start in the kitchen and go all the way to the attic to see Luna.

After you have read this book, you can ask your child where items are located in Bear's house. You can even ask them if you have any of the same items in your own home as Bear does. You can also ask your child, how many of a certain item are in Bear's house. Not only does this book teach the reader words it can also help them count, along with helping them with their memory skills.

I can hardly wait for my daughter to get older so that we can read this together. However, we have fun looking at the pictures, and having me read the words to her for right now. We strongly recommend this book for any "Bear" fan or any young reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bear-y easy to read fun!
Our daughter received this book several months ago and it is one of her favorites. At 19 months she enjoys pointing to the pictures and being able to identify them herself.

In this Bear book, we are taken on a tour of the Big Blue House by Bear himself. As we travel from room to room, different simple to read words can be found by objects that are very ordinary.

We have read this book on many occasions now and it always amazes me what my daughter picks up on after we read it. I highly recommend this book for the Bear fan in your life! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sleepy-time book for Bear in the Big Blue House fans!
We got this book for our 2 1/2 yr. old son to take to bed with him because it glows in the dark. :) We "charge it up" under a table lamp while getting ready for bed time, read it to him & then give it to him to "read" while he is in bed. It's a great book & it's fun to look for the "hidden" things that only appear when they are "glowing in the dark". :) A great gift for any boy or girl.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Like Two For the Price of One!
My two-year-old really enjoys this book and other "Bear" books which have that glow-in-the-dark feature. After reading the book to him under regular lit conditions, we stick the pages under a lamp (or use a flashlight) to illuminate them, then shut the lights for him to enjoy it "glow in the dark" style. It's almost like getting two books in one. He's had it for well over a year and seems to enjoy it even more now. I'd recommend this.

4-0 out of 5 stars A novelty that hasn't worn off
We bought this, assuming it would be a gimicky book that would give our toddler son a lot of pleasure for a short time and then be discarded. The pleasure has turned out to be extended beyond what we thought possible. This little book has quite charming text but hasn't been a read aloud hit with our son. He has been enthralled with the glow in the dark pages, however. We used to just turn them and talk about what he could see. Now that he is almost 2, we no longer "charge" the book. We just turn off the lights and let him loose with the torch. He loves making the "magic pictures" come alive piece by piece with well aimed whisks of his magic torch. It is a lovely activity for winding down before sleep. While our toddler isn't afraid of the dark yet, I can imagine that this book might make the issue of "turning down the lights" a bit more fun and a bit less threatening. A surprising hit!

3-0 out of 5 stars How well can you read in the dark
The storyline is good, but if you are like most people, you need light to read. The whole gimmick about this book is that it glows in the dark, which is neat to see, but not a reason to buy a book. You cannot see the effect while reading it. There are other Bear books I would buy before this one...

5-0 out of 5 stars Bedtime Lifesaver
My soon-to-be 2 year old dislikes bedtime no matter how appealing we tried to make it, until we got this book. Now he waits for his daddy to "charge" the glow in the dark pages. As soon as that is done, he yells, "Lights, Daddy." Great graphics that show up well in the dark truly keep him enthralled until he falls asleep. I recommend it for any little "bear" fan. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun!
Even as an adult, I saw this book and had to play with it. It is made of very thick, sturdy, laminated, cardboard and has only six pages. The book asks you to sing and record various parts of "Old MacDonalds Farm" while you are visited by a chicken, pig and bear. John Lund mixes photographs of what seems to be stuffed animals with his own illustrations. The interesting part of this book was the small digital recorder. The recorder was extremely easy to use--you hold down one button to record and one button to play, and the recording and playback quality was good for such a small size. This book could certainly lead to many hours of entertainment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Cute Bear Book!
My daughter is 1 year old and she loves Bear in the Big Blue House and my mom bought her the book. The book is very cute and the pages are sturdy and she can turn the pages well because of it. The pictures are very vivid and colorful and my daughter always points to the sun "Ray" on the first page. If your child is a Bear in the Big Blue House Fan, this is a definite buy! ... Read more
