5-0 out of 5 stars Should Be Biscuit's Bedtime
This is the first Biscuit book, wherein we meet the small yellow puppy and the-girl-in-purple-sneakers. It is bedtime but Biscuit, like many children, does not want to go to bed. Instead, he wants to play, snack, drink, get hugged, have a blanket, etc.

Many parents will recognize what Biscuit is doing, avoiding sleep and getting more "mommy time." But in the end, what Biscuit winds up with is to be asleep but not in his own bed, but near the little girl.

Adorable illustrations really make this a fun book for children (sometimes I have my daughter read Biscuit's part, "Woof, woof!"). A great book. Read them all.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Comforting Story for the Beginner Reader
Biscut is a cute "small, yellow puppy" owned by an equally adorable 3 to 6 year-old, auburn-haired girl. Most of this 21-page book is in the following format:

Time for bed, Biscuit!
Woof, woof!
Biscuit wants ...

What does Biscut want? Well, he wants "to play, a snack, a drink, to hear a story, his blanket, his doll, a hug, a kiss, a light on, to be tucked in, one more kiss, one more hug, and to curl up." Thirty-five simple words are introduced and many are used over and over again so that the text eventually averages a little more than six words per page. This warm, comforting story is perfect for a child who has just started to learn to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Biscuit book we bought!
This is the first book my daughter, who is 5, really got attached to. She loves it and all the Biscuit books! We just keep buying all we can find about Biscuit. Great beginner reader book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit
This book is about a little puppy that needs to go to bed, but little Biscuit doesn't want to. He keeps wanting to play, eat, hear a story, then he goes to the little girls room to curl up with her. He finaly falls asleep when he lays on the girls blanket on the floor. I thought this book was so cute. The pictures were really good. This book teaches the children how some pets need this much attention and how they don't always do as they are supposed to.

3-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit
The book Biscuit was about a little girl who had dog that needed lots of attention. Before Biscuit was ready to go to bed the little girl had to feed him, play with him, read him a story, tuck him in, give him a hug and a kiss and leave a light on for Biscuit. Just as the little girl fell asleep Biscuit was in her room and wants more attention. Will Biscuit ever fall asleep?? The lesson that I learn from this story is that having any kind of pet is a lot of responsibility and that you really have to be kind to your animals. The age range of this story I would say would have to be for children two to five years old. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit Meets the Little Duck
In this book Biscuit meets a new friend when he finds a small yellow duckling near the house. Friendly puppy that he is, Biscuit soon makes friends but a duckling should be with its parents.

Biscuit helps the little duckling find its family but not without making an impression as the duckling looks like it follows him home at the end.

Another simple and happy story with some of the best illustrations in children's books. My daughter likes to read the "Woof, woof!" parts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit Rex
"Biscuit Finds a Friend" is the most emotionally shattering portrayal of love and loss since "Wuthering Heights". Alyssa Satin Capucilli has written the manifesto of a disenfranchised generation, and the publication of "Biscuit Finds a Friend" represents a watershed moment in the world of fiction. In Biscuit, Capucilli has found a humble hero, a character that speaks quietly, but speaks for a generation nonetheless. In his quest for simple, basic companionship, Biscuit reminds me of Holden Caulfield of Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye," and echoes of the immense effect that "Catcher" had on its generation can be found here. Biscuit, seeking to break free of the shackles of oppression forced upon him by his cruel dominatrix--left nameless, perhaps to create a "Big Brother" atmosphere where authority is nameless but must be obeyed without exception--finds love with a young duckling, who has run away from a broken home where, it is implied, he is malnourished, beaten, and... abused. Much like in "1984," the pair share the happiest of moments, unaware... that the specter of authority dwells all about them, waiting to pounce. When it does, Biscuit and his friend are cruelly separated, returned, respectively, to the doghouse and an abusive household. The story ends with the tragedy of separation, the endless cycle of emotional destruction that has so overwhelmed the generation that will devour "Biscuit Finds a Friend".

5-0 out of 5 stars Motivation that moves young beginning readers!
My 3 yr old son has simply fallen in love with Biscuit. We look forward to bedtime reading each night as we go through Biscuit's day which is full of adventures. The book is interactive in the way that it asks questions which gives the children a chance to be creative with their own adventure. We look forward to growing with Biscuit!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for beginning readers
The Biscuit books have been the greatest motivator for my daughter who has been struggling with learning to read. The text is good for an emergent reader who is just beginning to learn sight words and phonics. The illustrations of Biscuit are delightful. These are wonderful books. I only wish I could get a series of them in paperback, quick, to keep her reading! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner reader book!
My daughter, who is 5, loves all the Biscuit books! They're great for beginner readers! We haven't found any she likes better, so we just keep on buying all the Biscuit books we can find. She is definitely a Biscuit fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Types of Puddles
It is time for Biscuit to have a bath. The Girl In The Purple Sneakers has everything all set. Everything except Biscuit who has other things he would like to do. This is also the First book where his friend Puddles shows up.

Biscuit is reluctant to take his bath, but after making a mess and some puddles of his own, it is finally time to get clean.

This is one of the earliest and best Biscuit books. My daughter loves it and I can use it to illustrate that when things need to be done, we will get them done even if she resists.

More great illustrations and text that my daughter likes to illuminate with her own story telling and hand gestures.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amusing, wonderful little book
My 18-month old daughter adores this Biscuit book. (And now, some others as well.) The pictures couldn't be cuter, and the text is interesting and there's just enough of it to keep her engaged. It's a very fun, simple story, but she definitely "gets it." I think what makes it appealing to her is that it's got a real narrative element to it, as opposed to most of her books, which are just pictures and words, or nonsensical rhymes that don't really have a point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reading for Little Ones
My 4 1/2 loves to read through this on her own. It is fun and easy for her to get through.

5-0 out of 5 stars More fun with Biscuit
My 3-year-old loves the Biscuit series. This book takes Biscuit and his little girl owner through an unwanted bath for Biscuit. In usual Biscuit fashion he resists doing what he is supposed to (which may be why the Biscuit series appeals so to older toddlers--they can relate!). The little girl is always patient and sweet, even when Biscuit makes a mess or gets her wet or dirty she continues to treat him nicely. I believe this is a nice lesson for a little one, and the easy-to-read format makes it fun for them to make "Bow wow" and "Woof" sounds along with the main character. When my 5-year-old started to read the Biscuit books were popular with her because she could feel a sense of accomplishment when she could read it herself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Here's Biscuit off on another adventure
Biscuit is a little puppy who wants to go to school like his owner. He follows the little girl to school one day. Once at school Biscuit wants to join in with the other boys and girls. He wants to play ball, hear a story, wants a snack and meet the teacher. The little girl is worried that the teacher will be angry that Biscuit came to school. It turns out the teacher and the students enjoy Biscuit being with them.

This book is a great book for young dog lovers. There are very little words per page. Beginner readers will enjoy this book. The pictures are also very cute.

I would recommed this book for young children because it will keep their attention well. This is one is a series of other Biscuit books. If they enjoy this one they will look for others by the same author.

4-0 out of 5 stars The cutest dog in books goes to school
My daughter loves Biscuit and I love the illustrations. This is one of the original-style books like Biscuit, Bath-Time for Biscuit, Biscuit Finds A Friend, etc. and not one of the larger format books (Happy Chanukah Biscuit, Happy Thanksgiving Biscuit, Biscuit on the Farm, etc.).

In this book, the adorable puppy tries to follow The-Girl-With-the-Purple-Sneakers to school.

Pretty basic reading and excellent illustrations. Good for young kids who can't read as well as a good book for kids just beginning to read on their own. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit Gets Distracted
In this book, The Girl With The Purple Sneakers wants to teach Biscuit how to fetch a ball. But learning is not always easy when the world is filled with fascinating things like bones and cats. But once Biscuit is ready to learn even a big mud puddle won't stand in his way.

A good book that shows it is easy to be distracted and that obstacles can be overcome. Told in the wonderful "Biscuit" style and with adorable illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Beginning Readers
This is a terrific new Biscuit book. My 7 year old daughter can read it with no problem. It is almost too easy for her. It is a wonderful book for the very beginning readers. 5-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit and the Kittens
Biscuit meets a pair of kittens and decides he wants to play with them. But try as he might, the kittens pay no attention to him as they play and explore on their own.

But this changes when the kittens follow a butterfly up a tree and can not get down. Biscuit barks and gets the attention of The Girl In The Purple Sneakers and The Girl With Puddles and the little cats are rescued. We then see them playing with their helpful new friend Biscuit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great book. Woof! Woof!
Biscuit's friend Sam is back. We met sam back in Happy Chanukah, Biscuit, but did not learn much about him. But now Sam, one of his kid owners (the girl with curly hair), and The-Girl-In-Purple-Sneakers are all playing together.

Sam is a very big dog, so big that Biscuit could take a bath in his water dish. Biscuit wants to be big like Sam but learns, in the end, that being small has its own virtues.

5-0 out of 5 stars from SherriAllen.com
How can children's book publisher HarperCollins improve Alyssa Satin Capucilli's Biscuit series? By offering 10 of Biscuit's most endearing stories in one book. That's exactly what they've done with the "Biscuit Storybook Collection."

Biscuit is a sweet-faced puppy you want to grab right out of the pages and cuddle. He and the little girl share the simple joys of childhood, like getting ready for bed and having a picnic. They share the excitement of adventures like being in a pet show and having a birthday party. They share the ability to take things that don't turn out quite right and make them wonderful.

The "Biscuit Storybook Collection" is the perfect book to introduce a child to the joys of reading.
The large typeface, simple words and repetition make the stories easy to read. The sweet plots and the delightful illustrations by Pat Schories make the stories a joy to read. The pictures are very gentle, with soft lines and colors, but are full of expression and activity. They are very effective at creating interest and encouraging the beginning reader to keep going to find out what happens next.

The stories included in the "Biscuit Storybook Collection" are:
Biscuit
Biscuit Wins a Prize
Biscuit's New Trick
Happy Birthday, Biscuit!
Biscuit's Picnic
Biscuit's Day at the Beach
Time to Paint Biscuit!
Biscuit Meets the Neighbors
Biscuit Goes to the Park
Biscuit and the Bunny

The "Biscuit Storybook Collection" is a must-have for your child's library. At my 3-year old's insistence, we have read stories from the "Biscuit Storybook Collection" every day since we got the book (2 months ago.)She doesn't show any signs of losing interest in the "Biscuit Storybook Collection" anytime soon, and I must add, neither do I.It's a very pleasant surprise to find a book that I not only don't mind reading over and over, I actually enjoy and look forward to reading over and over. The price is right, too. The "Biscuit Storybook Collection," complete with 10 different stories, doesn't cost any more than the price of a single book.I encourage you to buy this book today! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Biscuit of Bountiful Fun for Sam and Mom!
Two-and-a-half year old Sam is a big Biscuit fan.... and this one is another hit. The few words on each page, the "lots of stuff to point to"... we learn colors by talking about (and pointing to) the purple sneakers and Biscuits collar is what color? Who says "Woof Woof?" is it the Bunny or the Girl or... YES! It's Biscuit!

The board book quality is high - somehow we got something sticky on it and it wiped right off. Also, the size of this book is also favorable with Sam. He oftentimes carries the book around with him and it fits really well under his arm. There was an earlier Biscuit book that was smaller - the "What is Love, Biscuit?" and this one that are a better "old toddler" size.

You will both enjoy this one no matter how many times you read it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Again, Again, Again!" 2-Year-Old Sam says 5 Stars Plus!
This story is absolutely adorable: this is my first meeting with Biscuit and it could not have been better.

Each page only has several sentences, all which engage the reader/listener in the story.

Sam soon learned who was on what page and we kept enriching the story by talking about it more and more and more.

It never got old, though, as there was a lot of *laughter* and *animal sounds* to be made as well as hugs and laughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Over" and "Again" says Sam, a 2-year-old hearty +
My little boy adores this book. He can sit on my lap and hear it over and over again.

I think he loves the question, "What is love, Biscuit?" and knowing there will be a different perspective on every page (although he doesn't know about the perspectives, he knows on one page we quack, on another we point to the different color kittens and on another, we talk about Nana and Grandpa.)

I love the simplicity of the language and what I can add as a reader of a toddler-to-preschooler.

5-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit learns about expressions of love
Biscuit is back again. This time The-Girl-in-Purple-Sneakers is trying to teach Biscuit about what love is. She gives examples of expressions of love (i.e. spending time with the grandparents, etc.). Many favorite characters are back (even Sam, this big dog).

I fell the book may not teach exactly what love is (how many of us really know that?) but it does give practical advice that is accessible by children.

Fun book, great illustrations. A must for biscuit fans. ... Read more
