Book Description

Billy was a little boy who "loved horses more than anything else in the world." Imagine how happy he was when he got his very own pony for his birthday! From that day on, Billy was seldom seen without his new friend, Blaze.

Riding through fields and woods, Billy and Blaze learned to trust and understand one another -- and to jump over fences and fallen trees with ease. They were a great team, but were they good enough to win the gleaming silver cup at the Mason Horse Show?

This is the first book in the classic Billy and Blaze series. Sensitive drawings and easy-to-read words capture the warmth and gentle understanding between a boy and his horse. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hoofs and Wheels
While women generally ride for pleasure to feel the wind and the movement of the horse beneath, a boys ride is different in that it is the power and speed of the ride that are most dear to him in these chariots of fire, the roar of the engine, the hoofs and the noise of the wheels that inspire their thrill. Boys tend to drive either their horses or their cars to see the height of their power, and whether the beauty of black or the silver shine of white, the joy of the command lies in the skill of the rider and the knowledge of his horse, or his engine, a sight that most can appreciate, understand, and admire.

for fun and adventure.

The Billy and Blaze series is great fun. Young boys, even those not interested in horses, will love these books. My 7yo has never had an interest in horses (he thinks they smell bad) but he hangs on to every word of these adventurous stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, wonderful set of stories...
I read these books as a little kid... The illustrations are incredibly beautiful and lifelike, and the stories are equally enjoyable. Billy and Blaze's adventures would capture the heart and mind of any child -- or even adult! - with their emotional strength and superb literary quality. I can't recommend these books highly enough... every one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written and illustrated children's classic
All of the Billy & Blaze stories were among my favorites as a child; I'm so glad they are available again. The illustrations alone make these stories classic children's literature!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great story of a child relating to an animal
I grew up reading the entire series of the Blaze books by C.W. Anderson and they have become favorites of my children. Billy loves his pony, and his pony loves him. There is a mutual respect that only love can inspire. Apart from the story, Anderson is a consumate illustrator. ... Read more

I can still remember sitting in the children's reading area of our public library (about 20+ years ago!) reading every Billy and Blaze book I could get my little hands on! 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Young Boys
The whole Billy and Blaze series is wonderful. This book is my son's favorite. The story is about how Billy takes Blaze on a ranch vacation. They see a wild horse they name Thunderbolt. None of the grown up cowboys can get near him. Blaze and Thunderbolt become fast friends. Eventually Thunderbolt follows them home, jumps in the corral with Blaze, and becomes friends with Billy. Billy is the only person Thunderbolt trusts and eventually lets Billy train him. Billy goes home from vacation with a beautiful new horse and Blaze has a best friend. My son was facinated by the friendship between the horses and how a boy could train such a big animal. The illustrations are beautiful and my son loves them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the horselover of any age!
The Billy & Blaze series was my absolute favorite in gradeschool-- the illustrations are gorgeous, and the stories are well thought out and written superbly. I remember signing this series out of the school library over and over and over again... now as an adult, I am THILLED to see it offered here at Amazon. None of these books will disappoint a horselover-- no matter what age you are!

5-0 out of 5 stars Blaze and the Gray Spotted Pony
The is the BEST of the charming and beautiful Billy and Blaze series by CW Anderson. Billy gets a human friend this time, who loves horses as much as Billy does. This friend wants a gray spotted pony for his birthday--Billy and Blaze have to go FIND him one. It's a hackneyed plot (no pun intended, Hackney lovers) but it is done right without any silliness. But this is a Billy and Blaze book, and any collector of them know the REAL reason to buy a Billy and Blaze book are for the amazing CW Anderson pencil drawings! It is amazing to see, over the course of the series, how much this man had improved as one of the top equine artists of this country and he is sorely missed. This is a great book to read as a stress-reliever for pony loving adults, or a bedtime story for children ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great adventure with Billy and Blaze
This time Billy and Blaze set out west (for a family holiday) and encounter great boy adventures and make a new cowboy friend.

Billy and Blaze books teach courage and responsibility and consideration for others. These things do seem to be lacking in a lot of children's literature these days.

If you want a classic story with good values and a great storyline, this is for you and your boys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Billy & Blaze to the Rescue!
I love this book on Blaze and the Mountain Lion part of the Billy & Blaze series.

This is when Billy and Blaze are on the ranch and his parents had come west and taken a ranch house for the summer and the had Blaze along too.

Billy & Blaze to the Rescue! So they are able to chase the wild cat into its den and save a frightened calf from near death. So Billy has an old rope he used as a lasso and he roped the calfs belly and he pulled him up.

Jim their new cowboy friend kills the mountain lion and Billy got a new lasso.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful books about a boy and his horse
My son loves the Billy and Blaze series. The "adventures" they have are told in such a way that the children can imagine themselves taking part in them.

In this particular story Billy sets off to find a "lost" quarry. This one reminded me of many of the "adventures" my brother and I had as children in the forests near our grandparents farm in Montana.

It is nice to share a quiet, interesting story with my son. Most authors today seem to think they need to compete with television and movies, therefore their books seem to be nothing more than written out tv shows and action flicks.

The other thing my son and I enjoy in these books are the drawings. They are very good and realistic. We have the oppotunity to study some nice art while reading a pleasant book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Billy and Blaze
As a child (first and second grade) I read this series. Billy was without a doubt my favorite character from any of the childrens books available to me then. They are well writen, easily followed, in or out of torder. I am very please to be able to buy them for my nieces and my own child!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Story for Boys
My son (4 next week) wanted some "Wild, Wild West" stories. I found the wonderful books by C.W. Anderson in the library. I bought several of the reprints in paperback because he loves the stories so. The gentle adventures of Billy and his pony Blaze are a wonderful way for young boys to learn the virtues of loyalty and friendship and the love of animals. In this book Billy and Blaze spend a day looking for a forgotten quarry. They have a few adventures trying to get over the overgrown trail. The quarry is as wonderful as Billy pictured. He gets a bonus - he finds a puppy running from a fox. Billy and Blaze take their new friend home. The realistic pen and ink drawings illustrating the story are very much enjoyed by my son. I'm happy to have found these books reprinted. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Blaze book
My 7 yo son loves the Billy and Blaze series. This series is an excellent one for boys. Even if you don't think they have an interest in horses.

There is great adventure, like only a boy could imagine. And the stories are not so inane that the parents reading them cry for mercy. ;-)

I recommend it and my son highly recommends it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blaze and the Forrest Fire
I like Billy and Blaze books and I like what happened in that book Blaze and the Forrest fire and it said in the book that Billy's dog Rex goes with them on rides and one day he's sick. Billy and Blaze is about a boy and his pony who race to the forest fire to set and speeed the alarm. But one day he was sick? It reminds me of Paul Brandt's CD Calm Before The Storm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, extraordinary book!
C.W. Anderson has outdone himself with this Billy and Blaze story. I love most of his Blaze series with its timeless feel and innocence; what life used to be about. Blaze and Billy are put in a situation of defending the entire forest. They must make their way over hill and dale to alert the neighbouring farm. Will they make it... well I wont spoil it for you. Blaze and the Forest Fire is a unique and wonderful book. You will love it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Billy and Blaze
First a comment about the review on above: That review from Publisher's Weekly has nothing to do with this book. I don't know what book it has to do with.

Billy and Blaze books are a wonderful series about a boy and his horse and the adventures they find while out riding. I think any child could appreciate these gentle stories. They are a nice break from the commercialized books usually marketed to boys that are based on cartoons and toys and movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blaze Finds the Trail, Excitement at every page
This is a great book for young readers, especially those who love horses. This is a refreshing story about a boy named Billy and his pony named Blaze. The two have a very special bond and care very much for each other. One day they go for an outing and events happen which put them in danger. Readers are kept in suspense as Blaze and Billy struggle to get home. I would recommend this book to all young readers. ... Read more
