5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
My 4-month-old daughter LOVES Sandra Boynton books. We have ten of them and they are her favorites. She loves the simple stories and the bright, vibrant pictures. I point to the words and the pictures as we go through them & she giggles almost non-stop. She even tries to help me turn the pages. (Of course, she also has tried to eat the books, but she's only four months old.)

There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding the "ugly birds." As an education professional, I think it is important not to under-estimate the intelligence of children. Many will take the phrase at face-value and see it for what it is, a silly statement that sounds funny and "tickles" when you read it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Using "Ugly Birds" Uniquely...
My son enjoys reading this book, and it helped him learn his ABCs pretty quickly. My wife and I were worried initially about the "Ugly Birds Being Ugly" page, because we thought our son would go around poking fun at the physical appearances of others. But he didn't. Looks like we managed to teach him how to respect others. As for Sandra Boynton's book, our 5-year old smiles at the letter "U" page not because of how the birds look, but because of how the phrase sounds (onomatopoeiatically speaking, that is). When I scrunched up my face and asked him if Daddy was being ugly, he said No because I wasn't some bird drawing made by Sandra Boynton. I recommend this book not only for the entertainment value, but for the opportunity to teach children how to draw the line between fun reading, and respecting others. Afterall, I'd rather my child hears the word "ugly" from me (plus parental explanation), than from someone else in the school playground.

3-0 out of 5 stars Echoing the Ugly Problem Too
Although I've enjoyed reading her other books to my daughter, the word UGLY also bothered me. These books are perfect for reading to infants and toddlers, and I'm not too naive or overprotective to know that she won't pick up negative volcabulary (she has already), but it seems that "ugly" is not an appropriate word to teach them at such a young age. I'd prefer to have her learn more positive words, since there is plenty of time for her to learn all the words later. After discovering this page, I haven't used this book again.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves Sandra Boynton Books
This is a great book which my son loves to read. It teaches him his ABC's plus the pictures are great. We have almost all of Sandra Boynton's book collection. Highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Teach your children about "ugliness"
A to Z has a big problem in my opinion. It is a very simple children's book with some very cute illustrations of animals (A to Z). Each animal is engaged in an action that also begins with the first letter of it's name (e.g. Kangaroos Kissing). There are lots of made up animals, I'm assuming to account for the rarity of animals beginning with "Q" and "X" etc. The part that I don't like is the fictitious "Uglybirds" whose action is simply "Being Ugly". The illustration that goes along with this so-called ugliness is very disturbing. The "Uglybirds" have atypical bird features that seem intentional. They are green and purple, and have messed up feathers and big bulging eyes and are very "Different" from the "normal" birds in this and other books. Upon reading this, my wife and I agreed that we would never repeat this section while reading to our daughter. Although I do intend on teaching my daughter about ugliness (Racism, Violence, contempt, etc.). I think that it is a quality that shouldn't be used to describe physical appearance. When my daughter encounters a person who is physically unusual, I hope that I have instilled in her the values to disregard what others might find "Ugly". I know that some might think that I'm overanalyzing such an innocent entry in a child's book, I think that parents need to be more careful about the messages that they are sending about ugliness. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I truly love this book.
My wife and I are currently expecting our first child and have begun putting together a little library of children's books. This one is our favorite. It's sweet and funny and has wonderful illustrations. I can't wait to read it to our little one -- and to make "Pizza" a game for our family as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, simple fun.
This book is an easy read with expressive pictures. Pete's father plays a game with him to cheer him up and his mother soon joins in. It is a sweet family moment, where the family uses lots of imagination. At first, I didn't see the charm in this book. But my three year old twins liked it. They started requesting it more and more often. And I enjoyed reading it each time. It is a "feel good" book. (And, for me, the price of the book is worth just hearing my toddlers say "Pete's a Pizza!") Since my children are so delighted with Pete being made into a pizza, and then seeing the "pizza" run away, I think I will have to try making them into a pizza soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute and cheerful
It's a rainy day and Pete is in a sour mood. His dad decides to cheer him up by making him into a pizza. He puts him on a table, kneads him, tosses him in the air, and puts toppings on. The game continues with laughs all around until the sun finally comes out and Pete can go out and play. The book is not at all scary. It's a great make-believe book. It has about 300 words.

5-0 out of 5 stars a copy for my kids, a copy just for me!
My favorite children's book- oh yeah, my kids like it too. i keep one under my pillow for times when i need a smile!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
We have played a game like this at our house where we make pizza out of our son and daughter. They have always enjoyed it. They loved reading this book and seeing how someone else can make a pizza out of a kid.

The pictures are very cute. The writing is easy to read.

Enjoy. ... Read more

Book Description

In this first counting book, Max trades his house with 2 chimneys, 3 soldiers, 4 bears, and all the rest of his toys for Ruby's 1 lovely doll, Emily. A fair exchange!Rosemary Wells's original four Max Board Books, published in 1979 by Dial and followed by an additional four in 1985, were the first high-quality board books in the U.S. and became immediate classics. Total sales of the eight books were over 1.2 million! But more important, they have been loved by millions of children. For the next generation Rosemary Wells has now completely re-illustrated all eight delightful Max books in her bold, new full-color style. These wonderful stories with real characters are funnier than ever. They are terrific first books, especially with the increased focus on the importance of reading to babies and toddlers, a cause that Mrs. Wells has been wholeheartedly promoting for several years with her The Most Important 20 Minutes of Your Day reading program and now the Prescription for Reading Initiative. ... Because my []son does the same exact things. Sherbert in the tub, favorite shirts, worm cakes...he does it all. This book is a fantastic buy for your [] boy or girl.

4-0 out of 5 stars cute counting book with abrupt ending
Max wants Ruby's doll, Emily, but Ruby will not part with her. Max has a house with 2 chimneys, 3 soldiers, 4 bears, etc. but all he wants is Emily.

This is a cute counting book, especially for fans of this charming brother-sister bunny duo. But the ending is rather abrupt and always leaves my child wondering what happens next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This a good book for any child of all ages to read. I am only 15 and I love Max. I watch the show whenever I can. I am proof that you can never be too old for things that are considered to be only for children. Parents or relatives that have or know a child, this is a very good book that is funny and has good pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful on many levels
My 13-month-old son has loved the pictures in this book since he was a tiny infant. He still loves the book. The story is very sweet, and it quite stands alone - unlike some other counting books, which have no "plot" aside from the numbers. I also appreciate that the boy-rabbit Max is shown to want a doll and that his sister (ultimately) thinks Max's trucks, soldiers, etc. are desirable toys.

I love to give this book as a new-baby gift. It is a delight!

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any one working with young children.
I first came across this book while student teaching and fell in love instantly. I have used it for many theme units - letter (W), farm unit, and rhyming words unit. I have even made flannel board pieces to go along with the story and put in my literacy centers. My supervising teachers loved the flannel pieces so much they had me make them some also. You children/students will love this book and will in time learn to read it themselves, just as my kindergartners did. GET THIS BOOK :).

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved by children, the favorite on the shelf.
Be prepared to read it over and over again. The pre-schoolers laugh and giggle. They love to say "Wishy-Washy" and can't wait til the next page that opens up. A short enough book, even your littlest reader knows the next page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ms Wishy-Washy is a delightful book for new readers.
Ms Wishy-Washy is a colorful picture book for new readers. The cow, pig, and duck see the mud, and they wade, roll, and waddle in it. Ms Wishy-Washy then scrubs each animal clean. Then guess what the animals do next?

The book presents one word change per page and gives the new reader enough repetitions so that the reader learns the repeated words. The illustrations are marvelous. Children love this book, but so do adults. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Who can you spy.......? - 'Each Peach Pear Plum.'
This is a book that I was first introduced to during an English lesson during my PGCE course. After just one reading I have had to go out and buy my very own copy.

I was in awe of the magical combination of rhyme and illustration.

The rhyming text is based aroung a game of 'I spy'. There is a lot of rhyme and repition which is very appealing to young children.

The book is cleverly crafted to incorporate many well known fairytale and nursery rhyme characters and your job as the reader is to spot them!

The Rhymed verses give youngsters clues about who they can look for in each beautiful picture.

The book is a wonderful way to introduce children to the world of rhyme and with a second reading the children will be joining in with you.

As a basis for classroom work it could be used in many different ways. The children could be encouraged to create their own 'I spy' stories with hidden characters to fool the reader.

'Each Peach Pear Plum' is an excellent example of the joys of picture books, it is simple and fun yet intricate and detailed.

I challenge you to be unswayed by its charms.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to treasure
I bought this book for my kids because the title was so familiar to me. After reading the first page, I realized that I read this one as a child. This book has wonderful illustrations. You'll want to give your child some time to soak up the content of each picture. Children love books that offer them a chance to participate, and this one definitely does that. The rhyming words are fun to read for the beginner, and even adults can't help but shout out, "I spy Tom Thumb!"

5-0 out of 5 stars enchanting!
This is sort of like the child's story book version of the Broadway musical "Into the Woods." ...there's Jack and Jill, Cinderella, Mother Hubbard, Baby Bunting, the Three Bears...and more. Each illustration combines the person "you spy" with a hint at the next scene on the next page. It's absolutely charming on all levels. My two year old loves it, and yet it's one that I--at 29 years old--don't mind reading to her three times in a row. The rhymes and scenes make perfect segues into the rhymes and scenes on the next page. Worth every dollar spent. Even if your kids are very young, you'll probably end up saving this one for your grandkids to enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting
I held off buying this book until my twins were over 1 1/2 yrs old, and it paid off, because now they can appreciate the wonderful illustrations and "I spy" game. The illustrations are pleasing and detailed, and the little story is fun. My children always pull it out of the pile and sit together through the whole story, something they won't do with all books. A great book, highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful illustrations! Great for toddlers & preschoolers.
I disagree with the person who said this book is confusing to 3-year olds. I suspect he was confused as a child because he was not familiar with the characters. The author does assume that the reader is familiar with classic story book and nursery rhyme characters (Tom Thumb, Mother Hubbard, Cinderella, the Three Bears, Baby Bunting, Bo Peep, Jack & Jill, the Wicked Witch, Robin Hood). We've given this book as a gift to several people--everyone has loved it. A classic! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most popular request
My husband picked this up off of a discount table at a local bookstore. I have since sent 6 copies to friends that are expecting. It is my daughter's most requested book! Almost every night we read it. When we read it together (with my husband) we take turns on each page-now both of us can recite the book from memory. We also like to use it to talk about how the little boy is feeling in each picture. GREAT BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, loving story book
My 17 month old daughter had us read this to her all the time. It was after reading this book to her for about the 10th time, she started staying "I love you". Now, we tell her to go get the I Love You book and she pulls it right out of her box of books. She knows exactly which one it is. And of course, the book couldn't say it better on how all of us feel about her. She is now 19 months old and still goes to this book all the time. She will start looking for it saying "I love you" and then brings it to us to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have a child, you need this book!
... The illustrations are so sweet -- you can't help but smile at this kid on every page! The story helps children know that their parents love them unconditionally ("...even though it may not show, I love you when you're bad."), and it helps reduce parents' frustrations by reminding us to slow down and enjoy life and each other ("I love the way you take each day in your own unhurried style.") This is a great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book when I was little to read
I read a good book called How Do I love You? It was written by P.K. Hallinan. The little boy is my favorite character because he shows that your mom and dad will love you anyway you act. This is a great book because when I was little my sister and I did the book. We acted like the little boy and showed how we love you. This book will be around forever, at least I hope. This is a book which can be turned into a poem. My favorite part of the story is when they say I love to hear you sing. This is why I like this book and why you should read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Loving Story
This story is a wonderful way to answer your child's question "Why do you love me?" I love to snuggle with my children and read this story to them. My children love to look at the vivid illustrations and laugh at the antics of the little boy. I love this story as much as I love "I'll Love You Forever" (not by Hallinan), but I can actually read this story outloud without crying. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a great potty-training book
My toddler loves Caillou, but this book doesn't do much to help facilitate potty training. My son never thought of wearing his potty chair on his head until we read it in this book. Ugh. It also isn't very clear about what Caillou is doing on the potty, and there is too much emphasis on his accidents. I think we read this book twice before I donated it to our library - I figured that way at least a parent could read through it to decide if it would help them before spending money on it.

2-0 out of 5 stars What A Letdown!
I bought this book because my daughter loves the TV show. The illustrations don't look much like the animation on PBS (the book must be the original - before Caillou was "discovered"). The book is colorful, but longwinded and somewhat repetitious. My biggest beef with the story: Caillou ditches his diapers for underwear BEFORE he is potty trained. That's insane! As a result, Mommy ends up changing her son's wet pants often.

We have read almost every potty book available on the market as of 9/2003 (over two dozen!). Most fit into two categories: INSTRUCTIONAL books that introduce the skills needed to master the potty; and those that are primarily ENTERTAINING, for children who understand what is supposed to happen on the potty, but need extra time to make it happen.

I think Caillou - Potty Time fits more in the INSTRUCTIONAL category for the following reasons:

1) It identifies the purpose of the potty.
2) It specifies bodily functions such as "poop" and "pee."
3) Includes the important steps such flushing.

My advice - there are other instructional potty books on the market that are much better. Try What to Expect When You Use the Potty by Heidi Murkoff, You Can Go to the Potty by Martha Sears, or My Big Girl Potty by Joanna Cole.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful
This book did not help at all with the potty training. My daughter loves Caillou and I thought it might help her figure out the potty. It didn't.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is great! Just what we needed
My son has been doing well with potty training, but has gone back & forth. One week I think he's almost done with training all together & then the next he's having lots of accidents again. I have found, at least for us that pull ups promote laziness. We have used pull ups only at night now for a couple of weeks. Elijah is 2 1/2, & it has made a big difference. However, it wasn't until I purchased Caillou's book that Elijah really got the hang of things! It was like magic-since Caillou has accidents, Elijah could identify with the book. Mind you we have the Bear in the big blue house potty video & My Big Boy Potty book starring Michael, both of which are big winners, but this book was the 1st to really drive it home about the accidents. Caillou makes of few, but learns to get there faster next time & be successful. Elijah also gets to the potty on time now! I'm thrilled & very impressed with Elijah & this book. The only reason I didn't give this book the highest rating is because I believe you need a combination of a video, cloth training pants (They need to be able to FEEL the wet) & this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a step by step guide for your child
First of all, my 20 month old son loves this book. This is, of course, because he loves Caillou. And I think that it will be helpful in that he wants to imitate what Caillou is doing. If I say "potty" he says "Cai" and gets the book to read. However, if you are looking for a book to explain the potty process to your child, this is not it. It doesn't even come right out and say what Caillou is doing on the potty. It just says he has to "go". Go where, I ask? Timbuktu? The park? I have remedied this situation by adding in "pee" and "poo" where appropriate. It is a good book for him to identify with however, and combined with The Potty Book: Boy just may do the trick. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing Reading
This book was reviewed in a graduate course in reading that I was taking. "I Went Walking" is a predictable print book. Such books are excellent in the very early stages of reading. Children memorize the book as you read it over and over and over again. Repetition the very thing our adult mind questions, children ask for repetition that they need. They learn to "read" you the book even when the book is not there. This stage of memorization is the first stage of reading. The child then moves to recognizing the words. For example, "Is this word 'cow'?" So both kindergarten teachers and parents can use this book. It is good to have a half dozen of these predictable print books at home. (Look up: Dorothy Butler's "My Brown Bear Barney".)

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a treasure
I discovered "I Went Walking" when I taught first grade. It was a part of their literature series early in the year. I have no children of my own and I own both the board book and the paperback edition of this book because I love the illustrations and the rhythmical quality of the text. As someone who has professionally worked with children ages 2-12, I find that this kind of text is invaluable to early readers (ages 2-7). Children can easily pick up on the patterns in the sentences and begin developing many pre-reading skills (like being able to identify the left to right movement of written sentences). To find books that your young child will want to read over and over again is a jewel in their literacy development. To find books like this that you will want to read over and over again with your child is a treasure box of time shared!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good companion for Brown Bear, Brown Bear
This is just like the Brown Bear book. I love Julie Vivas' illustrations. Repetitive text makes it easy for your child to read with you (or to you!).

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Big Book usage
I developed a lesson plan for 1st grade students using the big book version of this book. The "what is coming next" theme of the book is perfect for young children to form predictions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this AND "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See"
Our son loves this book. In his shorthand he calls it "walking" and asks for it regularly when we sit down to read. I read a review that indicated this book is too similar to "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, etc." but I would disagree. Our son likes them both equally but they do not seem interchangeable to him (or to me for that matter). I would also echo the comment that the child character is appealingly ambiquous and could be either gender. The quality of the illustration and the story presented are delightful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Conversation piece
In this nearly wordless book, Carl "doggie" (as we called him in our house) takes the baby for a jaunt through a department store while Mother leaves him for a few minutes to go shopping.

The baby immediately climbs out of her stroller and onto Carl's back, up the elevators to the toy department. There, Carl deposits her into a toy truck, which collides gently with a stack of stuffed animals.

Next stop is the book department, where the baby finds (appropriately) a picture book on Rottweilers. Visits to the hat, television, carpet and fine foods departments ensue. Of course the story would not be complete without a stop in the pet deparment, where delightful mischief transpires.

I won't spoil the ending, but parents willing to laugh with their children will find this and Alexandra Day's other Carl books a delightful way to introduce them to words. Talking with a child over these stories starts a lifetime of book-loving. Alyssa A. Lappen

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have some of these
The Carl series of books is beyaon description wonderful. The artwork will suck you in for great leangths of time. The lack of text leaves room for creative play and language building with your child(ren). The first time he "reads" a Carl book to you, it becomes very evident how well worth the cost these books are. We have several in the series, Board books for everyday play, and some large hardcover traditional paper books for more special occaisions (Birthday, Christmas). I highly reccomend all of the books in the series. I give them as that extra little shower gift and the new parents are always delighted.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming Carl the Babysitting Rotty
Good dog Rottweiler, Carl,is left beside the escalator in charge of the baby and pram, while Mother shops. Carl and Baby decide to have an adventure. With Baby riding carl like a horse, they tour the department store trying things on and genarally creating havoc until Carl senses it is time to get back to the pram. Mother arrives back at the pram totally unaware the sleeping baby has been out and about and getting into mischief with Carl.....as always Carl will never tell.

If you have a Rottweiler in your life you will be especially predisposed to admire the Carl series by Alexandra Day. Her artwork is extraordinary and worthy of framing and you really do not need any text at all because the pages are so self explanatory and well done. I like the way the pictures evoke a simpler time and remind us of the 1930's or 40's. The stories are charming and sweet and Carl the Dog is a loveable lummox who deftly manages baby and keeps them both out of trouble. Unfortunately, Rottweilers get a bad rap when they are in truth, the most loyal and attentive family dogs. Rottweilers are wonderful with children and will always protect a child.

I am giving my son and his wife the entire series as gifts because they presented me with a Rottweiler GrandDog 6 years ago. These adorable books are tomorrow's collectibles you can buy, keep and read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Carl's best effort!
We fell in love with Carl after reading "Good Dog, Carl!" We were amazed when we picked up "Carl's Afternoon in the Park." We were disappointed with this book, however. The story does not flow very easily (why do they spend so much time waiting by the elevators ... is this supposed to be a reality book???). This makes it difficult for a parent to maintain the child's interest in the book. The artwork isn't as detailed as the aforementioned books. Our two-year-old girls quickly dump this book for another. I would suggest previewing any Carl books before buying, to make sure they meet your expectations.

5-0 out of 5 stars a book for all ages
The series of Carl the Rottie books are a treat for young and not so young. Humor, great art work and tight story line makes for fun beauty and excitement (at a pleasant level), Buy for your own pleasure, If someone else enjoys your find then that is icing for the cake. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Who doesn't love a smiling baby?
"Smile!", by Roberta Grobel Intrater, is a delightful execution of a simple idea. This short book consists of close-up portraits of 12 babies of various ethnic groups. Along the bottom of the portraits run lines from a simple rhyme: "Look at the birdie / Come on, say cheese / Give me a smile / Will you, please?" etc.

Nothing groundbreaking here in terms of photography or text, just some good wholesome fun. Try incorporating the book into the popular "peek-a-boo" game!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great picture book

5-0 out of 5 stars My baby loves this book!
I purchased this book a few months ago and it has become one of our absolute favorites! My son (now 6 months) will try to flip pages and he knows there is a "touchy" on every page! This is, overall, just a GOOD quality book!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a fun book for a toddler
This is a great book. Each page has a different teddy bear that a child can touch, for example, the nose is soft or the ears are fuzzy. It is a simple book; each page has a reason why the teddy you are looking at is not the right bear. Finally the last teddy bear is the right teddy bear. My 2-year-old LOVES this book she has memorized it and reads it with me while she touches the pages. When we get to the last teddy she is so delighted to have found the right teddy. I highly recommend this fun book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Captivating
As the mother of an infant I bought this for my son along with numerous other books. This book maintains his attention and he enjoys browsing through it again and again. Young fans of the unflappable Sam-I-am will be pleased as punch todiscover the plethora of flaps to lift in this 10-page board book version of theDr. Seuss classic. Sam-I-am does his very best to convince a more finicky Seusscharacter to try this rather unusual delicacy.

Would you? Could you? In a car?
Eat them! Eat them! Here they are.
You may like them. You will see.
You may like them in a tree!
To which the exasperated doubter replies:
I would not,
could not, in a tree.
Not in a car!
You let me be.
On every page readers will find sturdy, easy-to-lift flaps behind which residethe familiar characters and lines of the unique 1960 classic--except for thelast page. Here, blank spaces lurk behind the flaps, just waiting to be filledin with peel-off pictures from the accompanying sheet of silly stickers. (Ages 3to 7) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great pre-reading tool
As a certified elementary school teacher and practicing preschool teacher (3-year-olds), I highly recommend this book! There isn't a day when I don't hear "Ms. Molly, read 'Sam-I-Am!'" My poor copy of "Green Eggs and Ham" is tattered, torn, missing pages and is in the process of losing its cover! When I read it, the children follow along and are able to recall the rhyming words when I intentionally skip them (a skill which usually surfaces at a later age.)

When we have free time in the classroom, there is a mad dash to the bookshelf to fetch "Green Eggs and Ham." I sit out of sight while the children quietly sit down with "Green Eggs and Ham" and watch them turn the pages and "read" the story. They know what lines belong to which page by "reading" the pictures. This is one of the earliest and most positive signs of reading readiness. Of course the children aren't "reading" the words, but they are becoming aware of letters as symbols for sounds. I often hear them mimicking my many interpretations of the book (some of which get quite enthusiastic!) and other children gather round the "reader" to hear the story, sometimes helping out! The benefits they are reaping from this story alone marks the beginning of an enjoyable journey through the many facets of language development (reading, comprehension, phonics, rhyming, speaking, listening, and interpretation.)

Not only is the book full of fun phrases, fantasic illustrations, lively characters and poignant messages, but also is a great tool for learning about the initial processes of reading and recognizing written language. In later years, "Green Eggs and Ham" and other books as endearing (whether the children will realize it or not) may lead to a love of books and reading which may help them succeed in school.

I have no doubt that my students will forget who "Ms. Molly" is in their teenage years and beyond, but they will ALWAYS hold in their hea! rts a special memory that is "Green Eggs and Ham."

5-0 out of 5 stars Green Eggs And Ham
Green egg's and ham has been my favorite book of all time since i can remember, even after reading it 80,000 times, i still love it..Its about a silly old cat named Dr. Suess and he trys to get his friend sam, to try green eggs and ham. Sam kept avoiding and running away from dr. suess because he didnt like the idea of green eggs and ham..Dr. suess tried over and over, would you eat it on a plane?would you eat it on a train? Noo said sam, but in the end sam gives in, and realizes how good green eggs and ham are. I would reccomend this book to children and adults of ALL ages 1-99! great book! read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Green Eggs and Ham, 50 Word Vocabulary
This book is extraordinarily good. This is my number one favorite book. It is the ultimate Seuss experience. Dr. Seuss wrote the story using only 50 words. I recommend the Green Eggs and Ham board game and the videos or DVDs. I also recommend the Green Eggs and Ham CD ROM game by Living Books. I have been reading reviews by customers who like the book and I agree with all their favorable reviews.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rene's Review
I like the book Green Eggs and Ham because it is an easy book to read.Since I don't really like to read this is an easy book to read. And what I like the most of the book is that it makes over a hundred words that rhyme. This book was written by one of the most famous authors ,Dr.Seuss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Seuss explores the principle of "try it, you'll like it"
When Theodor "Ted" Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, died at the age of 87 on September 24, 1991, the best tribute of all to the beloved author and illustrator of children's books came four days later when the Rev. Jeese Jackson read "Green Eggs and Ham" during the Weekend Update segment of the season premier of "Saturday Night Live." That performance was so unexpectedly moving that it is impossible for me to read this classic tale for beginning readers and not hear Jackson's rhythm and cadences.

The protagonist of "Green Eggs and Ham" expresses the fact that he does not like Sam-I-am, so when Sam-I-am asks him if he likes green eggs and ham the response is also a negative. The equating of the green eggs and ham with Sam-I-am is extended through a logical progression of places (here or there), circumstances (in a house with a mouse or in a box with a fox), to hyperbolic proportions (in a car on a boat with a goat on a train in the rain). Despite the insistence of Sam-I-am that the protagonist might enjoy the green eggs and ham if only he were to try them, it is not a compromise position is worked out (trying the green eggs and ham in exchange for end to being pestered to death) that the story reaches its climax and resolution.

While I appreciate the importance of the idea that somebody should try something before they dismiss it (a principle that applies to not only food but theatrical releases and political candidates), I do want to point out that many years after my childhood, during which time the information would have been of prime importance, scientists established that different things do indeed taste differently to different people. So it is possible not to like green eggs and ham (or spinach, for example), and not be a repudiation of the life work of Dr. Seuss. But you do have to at least give strange food a chance before you take an absolute position against eating it under any and all conceivable circumstances. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Pacifier and bottle - I'd rather see some breastfeeding
This board book illustrates the catchy tune, "Wheels on the Bus". I haven't been able to read it without singing it! However, I did not care for the illustrations in this version. The style was fine - soft colors in a European city - but the content was disappointing. For example, there is a young girl with a very sour expression, sticking her tongue out at her mother and other passengers. Yuck. In addition, the baby on the bus appears to lose the pacifier in her mouth during the "up and down" and cries until Mama gives her a bottle. Shouldn't Mama be nursing her baby? With so many excellent books out there, I would skip this one and sing the song with your little one while spinning your hands around, jumping up and down, and acting out the song.

5-0 out of 5 stars My seven month old daughter's favorite book
Every time I pick up this book to read to my daughter, she starts laughing immediately. She bounces along to the music and she especially loves the part about the babies on the bus. My daughter loves books but this is the one that gets her really excited every time. The repetition in the song is perfect for young babies. The illustrations provide many oportunites for vocabulary building. If you are introducing your child to other languages, the illustrations are of a French city. I'm going to buy more of the Raffi sing along books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to both sing and read!
This is a cute little book. The pictures are darling - such detail! My 17 mth. old son loves this song, and the book provides charming visuals to go along with the words. Previous reviewers have commented on the picture of the baby being bottle fed. Little children are completely unaware of the breast vs. bottle debate and just enjoy the song and pictures. Don't worry so much about small things!

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved by my 18 month old
My 18 month old LOVES this book. Puppies, ducks, babies, umbrellas. The hand motions (signs) we made up to go with each verse make it even more fun.

I agree the only thing I dont like about this book is that the baby is pacified with a bottle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for toddlers
This is a familiar story and repetitive tune that, of course, you don't need a book to sing. But the book's lively illustrations make it worth reading. It's a great book for conveying to your child your love of reading.

I have to agree with one of the earlier reviewers that it's a bit disappointing to see an illustration of a baby being shushed with a bottle. It's true, though, that some moms can't breastfeed. And the pictures very sweetly convey the parents' love for the baby, and everyone on the bus is concerned about him/her too.

My husband and I are very picky about the books we read to our daughter because we can't stand them ourselves if they're boring, annoying or offensive. This book, however, meets all our criteria. It's lively and fun for us and interesting to our baby. We read it almost every night. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Boynton
We have been reading to my son since he was just a few weeks old. After a few months he already had a few books which were his favorites - one of which was Boynton's Moo, Baa, La La La. We went out and got more of her books expecting the same reaction. We weren't disappointed, except for this one. For whatever reason (we suspect it is too wordy and doesn't have the catchy rhymes like the others tend to have) our son (now 10 months old) won't let us get past the first page of this book without crawling away or closing the book shut. Our son would rather play with and be read books than play with most of his toys. This one just doesn't cut it. We recommend Opposites, Barnyard Dance, and Doggies (Doggies is annoying for adults to read, but he loves it). We'll continue to explore her books, but at least so far, this one is not the best Boynton.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a classic, but still fun
This book is about our equipment: eyes, arms, teeth, backs, tails, etc. As we read this book, my daughter looks for the appropriate items on herself, her dolls, and sometimes me! After she figures out that we don't have those big tails, she's done with this. The pictures are cute, the rhyme scheme works, but its hit or miss.

This author has a lot of different books that appeal to a lot of different kids, so if this doesn't sound like something new or right for you, keep looking -- there's probably a perfect Boynton book for your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Horns to Toes
This wonderful Boynton book leads us through all the different parts of out bodies with three monsters. The book covers our horns (What did you say? You don't have horns? All the more power to ya!), head, ears, mouth, feet, toes, nose, eyes, tummy, belly button, back, tail (You don't have one of these either? You do have a tailbone at least don't you? Yes? Good. I was beginning to worry about you. I have a tail.), arms, legs, hands, fingers, teeth and tongues. Each time a body part is mentioned, the monsters are there to show theirs off. The monsters are, like any Boynton creature, as cute as can be. I especially like their big grins that show off their teeth. Like other Boynton books, the words rhyme and flow nicely. I like this one a lot, even if it isn't one of my absolute favorite Boynton books.

Loggie-log-log-log

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hit at our House
This book was such a hit when we borrowed it form the Library that I bought it for my 20 month old daughter. She loves it. The story rhymes well, is easy to read, and keeps her attention. As we read I try to get her to point out her own body parts. This is the only Sandra Boynton book we own, although I have read a few others, so I can't really compair. I do however know that my daughter likes it very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute for a two or thee year old!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to my Christian library.
I wasn't even looking for a childrens book the other day when I accidentally happened upon "The Tale of Three Trees". I was brought nearly to tears by this touching little tale. I took it home and read it to my children that very night at bedtime, and even they were touched by this story. The sysnopsis above really tells it all. It is a story of Gods love for us, and his own unique gifts to us all in this world. I plan on giving it as a gift to friends with children, so they may share this special little story with them as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! This blew me away!
I had never heard this story before and had no idea what to expect when I read it...as I got to the part about the third tree's destiny, I started crying - it touched me that much...what a great lesson is contained in this simple tale -- each tree's dream was fulfilled although not precisely in the way that they anticipated...excellent jumping off point for discussions with little ones -- As the room mom for my 5-year-old son's kindergarten class, I got this book for his teacher's birthday and had all the children "sign" it - the teacher was touched by this powerfully moving story, as were the parents who came to her party...really a great book to keep and especially to give.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, easy read for Christian children
My homeschooled children (grades 1 & 3) enjoy reading this from time to time. The binding is great, the pictures are good, the print is large, and the text is easy to read. A touching classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I received this book from my parents for a Christmas gift when I was 25 years old. And I love it! It has become my favorite book to give as gifts to every child...young and old. This book stays on my coffee table through out the year and I pick it up and read it all the time.

The story is very good and really makes you think about what God has in store of each of us...usally not what we think!

Would definitely recommend to every one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written with Exquisite Illustrations
"I Love You Like Crazy Cakes" became an instant favorite in our house from the moment we opened it. My 6-year-old daughter, adopted from China, has not expressed a lot of interest in hearing her adoption story-- until we brought home this book. The sweet story and delightful illustrations have made it easier for her to understand her story and we read it together several times a week. It's also a great book to peruse by myself when I want to reflect on the experience of adopting from China. I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart Warming, Beautifully Illustrated
I am just now beginning the long process of adopting a child from abroad. It will most likely take 1-2 years, and this book will help keep me going when I lose faith.

It is a treasure of a book both for people considering international adoption, and also for those looking at domestic adoption as well. A simple and touching story that tells about the joy all parents feel when meeting their children for the first time...be it through birth or adoption.

This was a truly heartwarming story. Short and easy to read, it's destined to become a bedtime classic.

The illustrations are lovely and dreamy...as a storybook should be.

All in all, a excellent excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for every adopted child's library
A beautiful book; strong loving feelings are projected from the mother to her daughter. The positives of adoption are explained with empathy for the child's situation. Children reading this will feel proud of their origins, whilst feeling safe and secure in the care and love of their parents. Beautiful illustrations reflect the texts message of love and bonding between mother and daughter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good For Single Adoptive Mothers
I enjoyed this book, but think that it is especially appropriate for single adoptive women. The adoptive mother is mentioned, but not an adoptive father or adoptive partner. The book is adorable, no matter what the adoptive parental situation is, but if you are a single adoptive mom, you MUST get this book.

The illustrations must be mentioned also: they are stunningly beautiful with the emotions of the subjects literally entering my heart from the page. ... Read more
