My Three-Year-Old Can Read!
Of all the books I have purchased for my son, this is has been the most encouraging. I have been teaching my son phonics on my own, and sounding out words on a flashcard was becoming dull. I knew he understood the basic concepts of reading, but I couldn't find anything interesting to him that he could actually read. Bob Books are amazing! The little storybooks are THE perfect first reading books for any child. They feature simple, easy-to-sound-out three letter words with interesting storylines. There are 12 mini-books which progress phonetically as each book has been completed. Included are character finger puppets, which I recommend saving for after the books have been read the first time (so the child can focus). The puppets provide extra motivation. My son adores these books. He read the books the very first time I opened the box! Both mommy and son are thrilled! I strongly urge parents to jumpstart their children's reading with these books.

My son learned to read from these books
These are great books! My son quickly learned to read using the Bob Books. We actually only used the first 2 sets and by then he was on a roll and reading all sorts of things. The books are in black and white with simple drawings and easy for the kids to follow along. My son enjoyed the stories in each book and the drawings. I highly recommend this series to anyone wanting to teach their child to read.

The BEST beginner books I've found!!
I am a parent of two boys - ages 4 and 5. I've recently started teaching them how to read and have been looking for good beginner books. These are the best I have found. They are simple and follow the simple words. I've bought other preschool/kindergarden level first level books, only to found that they are not simple and have to many hard words. These are far better and follow simple phonetic words. I highly recommend!!

Great for Learners
This is one of the most crucial series for young children learning to read. When my son was in Kindergarten, he learned letters but struggled with phonics. Starting First grade, he was below grade level. I bought 2 sets of BOB Books, and by mid First grade, he was on-level and reading the bigger books provided by the school. I did not buy many more sets of BOB Books because, in his case at least, they were quickly outgrown. I'm sure that will be the case with all students, these books are simply great for teaching. By the beginning of 2nd grade, he was reading above grade level, and has been ever since. He's in 5th now, and reads high school leveled books.
I have nothing but good things to say about these books, I wish I had found them sooner. I turned to them when I became frustrated with the public school's phonics curriculum. Since he struggled with sounding out words and rhyming, he needed more help. With this series, I was able to stick with phonics teaching but provide him much more individual assistance than the school.
I can't praise these books enough.

She loves to read now
When my five year-old daughter began showing signs she was interested in learning more than letter sounds, I immediately went to the book store for help. I browsed through all the "beginning reader" sets and nearly all of them still contained words with more complicated sounds than what I knew she was ready for.

I'll admit that the price of these books at the bookstore put me off at first, but I as I browsed through each of the twelve books, I knew I'd found what I was looking for. This is a fantastic set for any first-time reader, as each book builds confidence for the next book in the series.

These books are great!
The Bob's Books are a great start for new readers! I couldn't find any other books simple enough to give my daughter confidence. Now she's in the 4th box (Level B, Set 2) and is starting to read OTHER books like Go Dog, Go and even the Cat in the Hat! When these books seem too much (because they're much longer) we go back to the Bob's books to gain more confidence. It's fun to listen to her read and help her learn in a very systematic way!

I can not say enough good things about these books. My 6 year old daughter has struggled with reading for a while. She would get frustrated and discouraged with other books. The BOB books are easy for her to decode, The illustrations are simple and not distracting.

she feels a sense of accomplishment when she completes the books. She brings one or two books with her where ever she goes and has started reading to everyone, she even calls her relatives out of state and reads them the stories over the phone! This is the best reading program I have ever seen! Thank you for developing this program!!!

Terrific Series for Emerging Readers
This is the same series as "More Bob Books," but it has been repackaged. It is a series of eight readers focusing on short vowels, consonant blends and compound words. My five year old started with "Bob Books First" and has progressed to this series. He finds the stories much more interesting but sometimes struggles with the new compound words. Bob Books Fun!
These are the absolute best early reader books I have found anywhere! Short vowels, simple words and sounds to start off and then each book adds a little more so your child can have early success, then gradually move up to harder words and eventually long vowels. There's nothing else like them. Great for early phonics practice. Closest thing to the books we learned on. (Remember, "See Dot run. See Spot run. See Dot and Spot run.", etc?) These are the first books every child should read. Try one set, then buy them all.

Make "Bob" a part of your young child's early reading!
The Bob books are superior early reading books. They are gentle stories, using a tight, controlled vocabulary and delightfully simple line drawings for illustrations. I have used these books, for years, for independent reading for my first grade students and my own child as well. These wonderful, little books are appealing to young children, more so than any other books that I have seen. You and your young ones will love the Bob books!

The absolute best to get kids reading!
These are simply the finest first reading books on the market today! Each page has a sentence such as, 'Peg had a big cap,' along with a simple illustration. At the end of each book is a list of unique words contained in the book (usually about 20-40) listed by the vowel sound. The set of 12 books also comes with a teacher/parent guide that give the story behind the Bob Books, hints for teaching your child to read, and questions you can ask the child about each book to help with comprehension and enjoyment.

This set of books really hooked my daughter on reading. We gave these to her when she started Kindergarten and she would read them on the way to school. The nice thing about having 12, is that when she mastered one of them, her 'reward' was to get the next! These books provided her first good experience with reading.

A great tool for learning to read
My 5 year old started with the "Bob" series the summer before kindergarten. By the beginning of school, he had gone through 4 out of 6 of the sets, although he still likes to go back to the eariler ones to re-read the books. He loves them and is so pleased with himself for being able to read his own books. This is a great way for young children to learn to read. I highly recommend the entire series.

Excellent First Reader books
My neighbor let me borrow this particular set of Bob Books when I mentioned that our 6-year-old was still struggling with reading simple words. I had never heard of Bob Books before, but I have since bought 2 more sets! My daughter enjoys the stories and loves reading books to her sister, father and me. Wonderful!
My daughter is 5, and we have been reading Bob Books for about a year now. We started with the most basic set and have worked to the more difficult books. They are simple enough that she has gained tremendous confidence in her reading skills. She never gets frustrated and wants to quit. Her reading skills have far surpassed her age, and I feel that these books are part of the reason. I would highly recommend them for anyone with beginning readers! I can't say enough good things about them!

This series continues the fantastic reading series Bob Books. I use these little books in my first grade class room and also had them available for my own child when he was a beginner reader. Highly recommend this book and the sequels!
Awesome... my 4 1/2 year old child was reading within minutes of picking up her first Bob book. The author(s) took easy-to-learn sounds and turned them into interesting, fun stories that build confidence and promote early reading. No home with young children should be without this series of books... I am now buying them as gifts for family and friends. Definitely recommend!

This is a great series!
Finally beginning books for children who are really just beginning. My three-year-old has known her letter sounds for over a year but suddenly began reading with her introduction to Bob books this month. She is gaining confidence and is surprised that she can read like her older cousins. Her six-year-old cousin is also excited about reading since she borrowed our Bob books two months ago. One word of caution, clever children will quickly memorize the story line that goes with the simple pictures and may tell you the story without reading the words. It was helpful for us to break the words down letter by letter on index cards before attempting our first Bob book.

THE BEST THERE IS FOR BEGINNING READERS
I bought lots of phonics books for my pre-schooler, and these were the WINNERS! I recommend them to all my friends with young children and agree with the other reviewers who say these books are "IT!" You will be glad you bought them!

Make room for Bob!
The Bob books should be available to all young children. They are age appropriate through about age 7. Children love their size, charming line drawings, and simple stories. I teach first grade in a public school and feel that this type of book is invaluable for beginning readers. All the children I have ever taught have gravitated to the Bob books. They will literally "toss" aside the high quality literature books that are deemed most appropriate for children by leading educators today. The reason is because the Bob books are truly appropriate for young children. Get Bob! Get Reading! Get Success!

Don't look any further for beggining readers. WONDEFULL
I LOVE these books. I looked everywhere for books to jump start my 5 year old into reading. These are perfect. Almost all the words can be sounded out using the "short" vowel sounds. Untill now every book I found was either too long, or too dificult, or epxected the child to know too many "sight" words and my daughter didn't even want to start. But with the BOB books, she can read a whole book by herself. After working with two of these sets I can truly say she is reading! No need to memorize dozens of sight words before getting started. No understanding complicated "rules". I would recommend these books to all begining readers. They are well worth the money, I wish I found them earlier! ... Read more

jump start for the young reader

My daughter loves it!
I just love the Bob Books. My four-year old daughter is already reading because of them! The cute artwork is very appealing to her. I was excited when I found the activity book to go with the Bob Books. Although she can't do it all by herself, she does enjoy doing it with me. Makes her feel like she's doing "school" when her brothers are. So far, she has enjoyed all of the activities, especially the stickers (although I have to lick them!). I think it is good for reinforcing the letter recognition and sounding out the words. I hope they make more workbooks to follow.

Stick with the regular Bob Books
My 4 year old is using Siegfried Engelmann's Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons, which she loves. I've started giving her Bob books to read as she is ready for each one, and she loves those too; it's a big thrill for her to be able to read a whole book, and the Bob books manage to put fun and humor into very basic stories. I thought this activity book would be fun too. Unfortunately, it doesn't measure up. It doesn't speak to a consistent reading level like the books do. (It starts with MAT - fine, but by page 3, we're on APPLESAUCE?!?) Therefore, it has none of that "I read it myself!" appeal. The "activities" consist mainly of instructions to circle or underline all occurrences of a given letter on a page, color in an object, or place a sticker in the appropriate box. I expect we'll be able to get our $3 value out of the cute illustrations & captions, but mainly by making up our own activities rather than by doing the suggested busywork. ... Read more
