A bedtime favorite!
My best friend and I loved the Richard Scarry books when we were little. My friend gave this book to my daughter(then 2) for her birthday and it has become a fast favorite over the year. She never tires of Mr Frumble's silly antics, and continues to plead for "just one more!" until we often finish all of the stories in the book. We love to look at all the wonderful details included in the pictures and point out funny things. She is now a big Frumble fan and I'm looking for more of his books for her now.

An unrealistic portrayal of an american busy town
A very uninspiring book. I had a hard time following the storyline and if it wasn't for the popups, I would not have understood the plot at all. Richard Scarry creates a world that is not only busy, but chaotic. I give this book an F.

Best pop-up book ever!
My 2-1/2 yr old son instantly fell in love with this book, followed shortly thereafter by me and the rest of the family. This is a great book to explore as you can go in and around the buildings, through the doorways, over the bridges and such. Plus, it can be read front-ways and/or back-ways, as there is printing on both sides of the page, giving a little reward for exploring the pages. The story is very cute also and the expressions of the characters are funny and endearing. The pop-ups are quite extravagant, relatively speaking, for a children's book, but not so much as to be overwhelming, and are also quite sturdy. My kids LOVE these four little treasures!
I am a mother of 4 children, all 5 and under, and we have had this set for several years. As with all Richard Scarry books, the illustrations are very detailed and contain little oddities and surprises that keep kids looking for new things to see. All 4 books highlight a specific Busytown character (Sgt. Murphy, Baker Humperdink, Miss Honey, and the Firefighters), and are sure to please girls AND boys. The stories, though for children, are not boring for adults to read again and again (mostly because of the funny illustrations throughout). Be sure to look for all the TV bug reporters! ... Soapbox Racer Fun!
This is a winner right from the frontispiece, which shows a wonderfully complex map of Busytown, author Richard Scarry's home for imagination and fun. Huckle and Lowly (looks like a cat and a turtle, I believe) are BUSY making their homemade soapbox derby style racer for the big Busytown race. Sally (another cat) offers for help are declined: "Poor Sally. Nobody wants her help." However, after the boys crash the racer, Sally, with the help of Mr. Fixit (a fox with a tow truck) repairs it with an old wheel, some wooden boards, an old hospital bed, and a trumpet! The pictures are bright and cheerful and printed on quality paper. There are usually two pictures per page, which adds to the action (especially once the race begins!). A fun book also that encourages kids to include others in their play.

A good first-time racers guide.

A fun book to read to your preschooler
We love this book. The characters are fun. Each mystery is engaging. The stories span the globe. We also think this book makes a great birthday present.

This book is NOT by Richard Scarry. Rather it is a work by others done in the "style" of Richard Scarry. Unfortunately, it falls far short in both words and pictures from the Richard Scarry that I'm familiar with. ... Read more

Hours of small child entertainment
This book has lots of little windows that open to show what's going on behind them. It has been great entertainment throughout the first two years of my daughter's life and probably for at least two more!
