4-0 out of 5 stars A good selection of vehicles
I bought this for my 3-yr old cuz he just loves his vehicles. This one has a lot of vehicles to choose from, which is a plus. The book is well illustrated with colorful pages and short stories (a few sentences). You will need to be careful when peeling the stickers since depending on the shape of the vehicle, you can tear them, especially the long tankers and big hulls. This is not a good thing.

First time using the sticker in the book is fine. But after a few tries, the ends will start to curl. It's even worse when my child decided to stick the stickers on other surfaces, which then desensitized the sticky side.

But overall, it's money well spent. He's had it for several months now and he still enjoys playing and looking at it. Maybe one day soon, he'll learn to place the vehicles on the road instead of on the buildings and actually follow the story line.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stickers not really reusable but otherwise excellent
This book is a truck themed book which is one of many published by Grosset & Dunlap.

There are 7 2-page spreads, which consist of background for placing the stickers. Each spread has a few sentences to tell a story or act as a guide for the sticker placement. The backgrounds are creative and well done. There are backgrounds of city streets, gas station, construction site, forest/logging site, suburban snow scene, a city building fire and a supermarket parking lot. Stickers depict construction vehicles, pickup trucks, campers, delivery trucks, logging trucks, and fire vehicles.

The stickers are billed as "reusable". The stickers stick very well the first time around. A bonus "pro" is since they are "reusable" stickers, if they are accidentally stuck onto floors, walls, or furniture they remove easily and effortlessly. The "con" is that (after using 5 different books in this series and having this consistent in every book) I must say that once a sticker is peeled and placed in a different spot, it does not lie flat. The sticker curls at the edges and is a mess. This has frustrated and annoyed both of my children and I don't like activities that are supposed to be fun to end up causing tantrums and frustration--especially when it is caused by "false claims" by the publisher of the stickers being reusable! Also in the sticker removing process, they tend to tear, especially if the shape of the sticker has protruding parts or small pieces sticking out. The tearing occurs when I peel them as well as my young children. This tearing has resulted in tears and disaster-"my favorite space shuttle ripped---AAGHHH!"

The graphics themselves are high quality and I am happy with the book graphics and the sticker graphics.

There are 75 stickers. If one were to buy 75 single use stickers of a theme without a book, the price would be higher than the price of this book with the stickers. I like the book and the stickers except for them being billed as "reusable" when they really are not. I'll rate it 4 stars since I really like the product but wish the stickers were more reusable than they are. The low price also is appreciated.

I did come up with an idea that once the stickers are shot, to discard them and you would end up with a blank book. You can then present this to your child and have them draw in the book using their imagination as a guide. ... Read more

From the author/illustrator of the very popular My Fire Engine, a picture book about race car driving that is simple, accessible, and suspense-filled.

"Today is the day of the big race. The pit crew is ready. The driver is suited up and strapped in. The engine is loud, and the spectators are all waiting for the race to begin. The cars are on the starting line, and when the green flag waves they're off!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Inside a Boy's Mind
Michael has done a terrific job of telling his story from the mind of a small boy. My three boys LOVE this story--and from a mom's perspective, it captures so wonderfully the way little boys play, think, and imagine. The illustrations are fresh and vibrant, the story itself simple and straightforward. All in all, a great children's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rex Scores Again!
My Race Car, the second in a series which started with My Fire Engine, is another hit by Michael Rex. The books in this series portray a young boy who, while playing with his toys, pretends he is a race care driver. For anyone that ever played pretend with their toys it brings back memories. For the child you will read this book to, it inspires them to dream a little dream. This book as well as My Fire Engine are must buys. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep your lights on the road
My son, who is now 6, got this book right after he turned 2. In these 4 years we have read the book hundreds of times. It has never lost its appeal nor has he outgrown it. The story is complex (to an adult), it has love, drama, adventure, a strong work ethic and a happy ending.

I have always wanted to write to the author and the illustrator to tell them how timeless and wonderful the story and the illustrations are but more importantly, if only to myself, I wanted to let them know that for 4 years now my son has only called me Big Truck. That's become my name, my whole family calls me Big Truck, my son's friends call me Big Truck. The last time I heard the word "Mama" come from my son's lips was a week after he got the book. I told my husband I want "Big Truck" on my tombstone. To say the book has been influential in our home is an understatement - and we love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truck Love
Big Truck and Little Truck lived and worked together on Farley's Farm and Big Truck took care of Little Truck and taught him everything he knew. That is until the day Big Truck's engine wouldn't start. Little Truck cried as he watch Tow Truck pull Big Truck away. He had never been alone. "I'll be back soon," Big Truck assured him. "Just remember the things I taught you." Little Truck was sad and anxious, but he got right to work. He took all the fruits and vegetables to market. He drove alone on the highway and remembered to keep his lights on the road. And when he skidded into a ditch, Little Truck knew how to go easy and rock back and forth to get himself out. After a few days Big Truck came back home and he looked great. His engine purred and he even had a nice new paint job. Little Truck couldn't wait to tell him all the "big truck" things he had done. But there was no time to talk right then. They had lots of work to do on Farley's Farm..... Jan Carr has written a very tender and sensitive story about love and the fear of separation all pre-schoolers experience, from time to time. Her gentle text is complimented by Ivan Bates colorful and expressive artwork and youngsters will be entranced as they watch Little Truck triumph and become more and more sure of himself. This is a wonderful, reassuring story that helps teach self-reliance and the big lesson that separation isn't forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars best truck book ever
By far, my 3 year old son's favorite book of all time! He memorized all the words and spouts them off spontaneously. Any boy will love this book, especially if they love trucks!!! I bought this book for all of my friend's boys and gave them as birthday gifts! Everyone loved it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars How Many Trucks Can A Tow Truck Tow
This has to be the ultimate book for little boys who love trucks. We got to the point that the boys would "sing" along and I could just close my eyes, because we all knew the words!!

5-0 out of 5 stars an instant favorite
fun to read and not as boring as those tonka books!my son is 3

5-0 out of 5 stars Older cousin chose this book for his little cousin.
We have read the tail end out of this book. It is now held together with mailing tape. The rhythm is good and easy to follow. If you read it enough, you can "read" it with your eyes closed. My son now five, still requests this for a bedtime story. He is the one who picked it out for his 14-month-old cousin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia
I'm buying this book as a nostalgia gift for my son who is now eleven. I used to borrow it from the library when he was 2, and he spontaneously memorized it back then in his toddler voice, to our delighted amazement. We have fond memories of our mutual enjoyment of the book, so it's high time he had his own copy! ... Read more

The perfect story for a child about to go on the school bus for the first time-ahilarious romp on the bus-a-saurus, a cross between a bus and a dinosaur. In the slightly alternate universe that is the suburban town, things are just a little more zany than reality-or are they? 5-0 out of 5 stars Wild and crazy ride
I really liked this book. The bus took the kids on a wild and crazy ride. I like how it swallows them up and spits them out at school. My mom and I love the picture where the teacher is hanging on for dear life. Cool book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dinosaurs, Big vehicles and "The Bells".
At a friends house, I just read this (four times) to my soon to be five year old daugther. She wanted more (so now I'm ordering it).

Kids love big vehicles (I think because kids have an innate fascination with big animals) so riding a school bus as being swallowed by a dinosaur (which then coughs them up when they get to school) is just perfect.

What I (and I think my daughter) loved most about this was the verse. The story is told in the first person from a boy riding the bus-o-saurus to school. The meter is that of Edger Allen Poe's "The Bells", one of my favorite poems.

5-0 out of 5 stars A bus-full of fun!
This fun, energetic, quirky book was a great birthday gift for my 5-year-old stepson. The terrific upbeat rhythm and fun illustrations will make it a favorite in our home library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Put those school bus fears to bed!
This is what read-aloud is all about!
Starting off with a jazzy, snappy rhythm

Early in the mornin'
when the sun is done a snorin'
the boppin bus-a-saurus
comes a-rippin' and a roarin.'

that continues to the very end

. . he burps us out reversed
with the Tardees going first
and the rest of us in spurts
around the town.

This bouncy bus-a-saurus
had my pre-schoolers boppin' to the beat!
And the zany pictures with the kids bouncing
on the tongue are hilarious! We've gotton a lot of mileage out of this bus!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! :)
