4-0 out of 5 stars Shopoholic Mom to Triplets!
Okay, we have *almost* all of the "Touch and Feel" books and this is one of the favorites!! All 3 of my babies *LOVE* the teddy bear and love the lift the 'soft cotton curtain', etc. Loads of fun! Only downfall is these books just are long enough!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best
Many of the books in this series are better than this one. The selection of items and pictures is odd, and the mirror on the last page distorts baby's face like something out of a funhouse. Skip this one in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your toddler will sit still!
This series is great! This was the only thing to get my highly Kinetic child to sit still and read. The things to feel here are things that are in their own environment, and there is a wonderful 3-D component to it too. Personally I think these are heads and shoulders above the "pat the bunny" books, and so does my child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Artists who love cats will love this book.
I am teaching my students to draw cats using this book. I like the step-by-step drawings and the different position and types of cats.
We have gone one step further in class by making our own stationery and cards using our finished drawings. We add a complimentary quote to our drawing from the book 516 Sensational Cat Quotes, Proverbs, Quips and Jokes for Scrapbooking, Crafting and Fun ISBN 0966640578
Teachers, have your student make a copy of the original so that they can make numerous copies. Save the originals.
Great drawing book. I highly recommend it.
We are having fun in class.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect book for beginning readers!
This is a heart-warming story of a kitten with many fears. He overcomes his fears in the story because of his compassion for a smaller, more needy animal than himself. Through repetition in the text beginning and emerging young readers will find this a delightful, easy-to-read story. My daughter has read it so many times the cover and pages are worn with love! Book Description

Simon is a very old cat who's just about ready to give up after a long and fulfilling life. But his family has a creative solution to get rid of Simon's doldrums: a new kitten! The unexpected companion lifts Simon's spirits and gives him lots to do and lots to look forward to. Simon's caring ways with the kitten earn him a nickname--and a place in the hearts of readers of all ages.

Judith Byron Schachner's inimitable charcoal-and-watercolor pictures capture to expressive perfection the quirks that make cats such delightful, lovable pets and very special family members. A priceless cat's-eye perspective on aging and intergenerational friendship, The Grannyman proves that there is just no limit to the power of love given and received. This is the book for anyone who has ever lived with and loved a cat.

Ms. Schachner has written and illustrated two other books for children, Mr. Emerson's Cook and Willy and May, and she illustrated I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie, by Alison Jackson.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sweet Tale of an Ancient Feline
My daughter (age 4.5) LOVES cats, and ours happen to be Siamese, like the Grannyman. One of our cats is ancient,so this is a wonderful book to prompt discussion of what happens when kitties get really old! It's also a really sweet story of a tender-hearted cat who is very loved by his family and who has great love in his heart as well! My daughter loves the pages with the baby kitten, and she wants to read this 4 or 5 times every day! Illustrations are terrific. This book is a must for anyone who loves cats in general and Siamese in particular!

4-0 out of 5 stars A touching feline tale....
This book brought tears my eyes and also made me smile. It is for anyone who has loved an elderly cat and appreciated the joys of a frisky new kitten. Children will enjoy the idea of a cat taking care of a kitten and all readers will admire the watercolor illustrations. Through text and pictures the spirit of both cats is nicely captured!

5-0 out of 5 stars For the love of cats
I was searching through the children's books looking for one for my g'daughter when I came across Simon and his family. Having had two Siamese cats through my life and experiencing the love given and received, I cried through the first part and then laughed and cried again. What a story! Read and enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book
This book honestly and beautifully portrays the lifespan of an aging cat. It teaches children the value and joy of older animals while talking about some of their "health" problems. The illustrations are utterly charming. I am so grateful someone has written such a lovely book about our elderly cats!!

Book Description

Charlie, a fuzzy gray cat, walked out of the woods one evening and into Elizabeth's and Sarah's hearts. Now he sleeps on their beds, lets them dress him up in doll clothes, and laps up warm milk on chilly nights. But where does Charlie go during the day?

It's not until a storm keeps Charlie away one night that the two sisters discover his other, daytime, home. But maybe that's not such a bad thing. Because, just like Elizabeth and Sarah, Charlie has two houses, two beds, and two families who love him very, very much! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for children/great family story
Two families that live on opposite sides of the woods think they "own" a cat. One calls him Charlie, one calls him Anderson. Just like the two sisters that live on one side of the woods, Charlie has two homes where he is loved very much. This is a great way to explain that just because two households are very different the love can be just as strong in both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charlie Anderson
This is a wonderful book for children that are living through a divorce. It is a sweet story of a cat that lives with two families and has two different names. The families decide to name him Charlie Anderson. He is one lucky cat because he has two families that love and care for him. This might help a child to see that having two families isn't so bad after all.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my ALL TIME favorite picture books
This is a wonderful story about a cat, Charlie, who saunters into the life of two girls. One stormy night, Charlie doesn't come home and the girls make a surprising discovery. They learn that having two homes and two families that love you can be pretty great! The illustrations are fabulous and capture the personality of the cat. You will fall in love with Charlie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cat Lovers and Children of Divorced Parents...
This simple, yet intricate tale of a cat named Charlie and Anderson can help children of divorced parents relate to life. In it a cat has two homes, two set of owners and one big family that loves him a lot. He doesn't mind having to visit between them and he gets different kinds of love shown him at each house. So it makes him extra special. The two little girls who discover their cat actually has another home he visits during the day, slowly realize that although their parents live in separate houses still love them the same as if they did live together. It's straight forward approach and fuzzy, cuddly cat makes this book a unique approach to talking to your children about divorce. I recommend it highly being a divorced parent of a cat lover.

Julie Andrews Edwards is probably best known for her stunning role in The Sound of Music, but the truth is, she's been thrilling readers since 1971 with her splendid children's books Mandy and The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. Edwards wrote her first children's book for her daughter when she lost a bet--for which the book was the payoff. Now, nearly 30 years later, we're delighted that Edwards has put pen to paper again with Little Bo: The Story of Bonnie Boadicea.

This gentle story begins when Sarabande, Mrs. Edge's champion Persian cat, has a litter of kittens. Not, mind you, prize-winning kittens, but kittens born to the proud, handsome alley cat Bounder. Unwelcome, unwanted, the kittens narrowly escape a watery end--and that's where Little Bo's adventures begin. The tiniest, most beautiful kitten of the litter is named by her father for Boadicea, a fearless warrior queen. But Bo isn't feeling too brave or regal when she, separated from her brothers and sisters on a cold winter's night, wails "a long, miserable cry that came from her heart." Happily, her cry is answered by a friendly, warm-hearted young sailor named Billy Bates who falls in love with her wide, violet eyes.

Bo knows better than to leave his side, so she stows away in the captain's cabin and sets sail with him on the Red Betsy where she begins her life as a ship's cat. Her adventures--stormy and dangerous as they are--make for a sweet, suspenseful tale of friendship and loyalty. Illustrator Henry Cole (of Jack's Garden and Livingstone Mouse) infuses life and emotion into Edwards's already thoroughly charming story. 5-0 out of 5 stars Julie Andrews is truely magical
As a child I fell in love with the actress Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Still an outstanding actress, I enjoyed her recent Princess Diaries, I am continually amazed at her abilities. If singing like a nightingale and acting weren't enough, she has also proven to be equally talented as an author! My eleven year daughter bought Little Bo two years ago with her hard earned allowance money. She couldn't put it down then and frequently goes back to enjoy it over again. She is currently reading it to her five year old sister who can't wait for bedtime now since she so enjoys her bedime story. The only problem is that their eight year old brother runs off with it at the most inopportune times thus wreaking havok! He thought if he could sneak away and read it in hiding no one would tease him. Boys who are almost nine are only supposed to read cool stuff, you know. He, too, found Little Bo irresistable and no longer even tries to hide it. I'm beginning to wonder if Mary Poppins wasn't really a fictional character at all but a chapter in Julie Andrews life. Don't stop now Ms. Andrews. We love you!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read Children's Book
Bonnie Boadicea "Bo" is a little kitten born into a family with a loving mother and father, but not to kind owners. She is the runt of the litter, and doesn't eat much due to her small size. Her father loves her, and to make her feel special gives her a big name, but calls her "Bo" for short.

One day it is time for the kittens to leave their mother, and the nice warm house. They realize that they are going to be hurt unless they escape from Mr. Withers, who was supposed to take them to the pet shop. So all the kittens run in different directions, and are soon scared, wet and hungry.

Bo meets a nice sailor and gets into all kinds of mischief with him on the boat he works on, and is soon a sailing cat with a nice home and a kind owner.

This is a must read children's book that anyone, young or old, would enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Julie Andrews Edwards reading _Little Bo_ is a must.
The CD/book edition of _Little Bo_ is a must for young children. Julie Andrews Edwards reads as well as she sings. This edition adds much to the written text. The CD can be used as a series of short readings. The conclusion of each chapter is accompanied by gentle music that tells the child or parent that there is a natural break. The author researched the book well, and the portions of the book that take place on a fishing boat during a severe storm are very plausible. Henry Cole's soft drawings do much to convey the flavor of the story.

Bo, the kitten, and her siblings were sent away during a snow storm by the owner because their sire was an alley cat. Bo finds a friend in Billy Bates, a sailor aboard a fishing boat. Bo survives a severe storm and the dislike of the boat captain. Billy and Bo leave the boat to find new lives for themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great "read aloud" book
I read this book aloud to my 6 year old daughter and she loved it. My 12 year old niece happened to be here at the same time and would also chide me into reading "one more chapter". I have a hard time finding stories to read aloud to my daughter that are at a lever that she can enjoy. This was excellent and I'm sure will be read again and again in our family.

5-0 out of 5 stars A touching little tale
The author of THE LAST OF THE REALLY GREAT WHANGDOODLES and MANDY, and star of many Brodway musicals and movies such as MARY POPPINS and THE SOUND OF MUSIC enchants us again with a third novel for children, LITTLE BO.

At the start of this entertaining novel for the young, a champion Pursan cat gives birth to seven darling kittens who are taken away upon their human master's will. They are eventulally sepperated, and it takes great courage for Bo to find a life for herself. An enchanting tale of the courage of young! Very enjoyable. Reccomended as a read aloud to young children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Lift-the-flap book for Todder
Like the Maisy book, Lucy Cousins used vibrant colors and bold black outlines to present the Katy Cat. My 2.75 years old son loves this book much more than Maisy books. It teaches the concept of shapes, pattern, numbers and colors. The items under the flaps always give a surprise. For example, when you lift up a flap with prickly in shape, you will see a porcupine. My son loves the last page very much. After lifting the flap about the number of animals / insects, he would go to the opposite page to hunt for the exact number of creatures. Compared with Maisy, I found Katy Cat book is more educational and fun. Quite disappointed that there is only a few Katy Cat books.

5-0 out of 5 stars All-in-one.
"Katy Cat and Beaky Boo" has all you need to stimulate your child's speaking-ability: well-known things and animals to name, numbers, colours, patterns, sizes, acts, prepositions, a short and simple text, and it can all be combined. I use the book every day in my work as a speak- therapist working with children suffering from dysphasia. They love reading it and lifting the flaps (which are mended more than once!) and they want to return to it even when we have had other exciting things on the programme. (My own 8-year-old daughter broke the code of reading knowing this book by heart, and it's the book she prefers to read aloud to a younger friend.) The drawing-manner is simple yet recognizable, the colours clear and cheerful. As a grown-up reader you're amused by its artful humour. Every time you read it you experience a new conversation with your young co-reader, still on a higher level. The pace in respect of the child. If you'll buy only one book for your young child, this should be the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Toddler Book
My 2 1/2 year old still loves this book. We've had it since she was around 18 months although I think it would be a good book for even younger babies. The book takes you through a series of comparisons that show Katy Cat doing something on the left hand page and a series of lift the flaps on the right hand page that ask you to find an analogy for Beaky Boo. One example is 'Katy Kat lives in a house' (the page features a very animated picture of Katy in her house) on the opposite page it asks where Beaky Boo lives. Each flap shows some type of living structure and underneath the animal that lives in each structure. Your child will enjoy the book on different levels as they get older. My daughter by now has memorized where Beaky Boo is on each page and gets a kick out of uncovering it as quickly as possible. It's also a good exposure to some uncommon animals. Lucy expands beyond the standard farm collection and includes things like sardines and squirrels. It also has sprinkles of color matching, counting and similarity choices. But the best thing about it is it's fun to read (Katy Kat and Beaky Boo just kind of roll off the tongue) so you won't get bored as they say 'again, mommy, again' ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A multi layered gem of a book
I am reading this book out loud to my almost-5 year old. He is captivated by the slow, meticulously layered plot and character development. I am taking the time to write this review, because this might not be a book one would ordinarily think to use as a read alout to a child this young (he'll be five in 2 months)..and as a mom i look to these reviews to gather information about age appropriateness. In any case, it's a pleasure to read, and it's the kind of book that makes you stop and say WOW, how on earth did this writer come up with these detailed ideas??? The characters are all kind and charming, and their little quirks are celebrated. I found that one of the underlying messages of this book is kindness, patience, and love for nature, as well as respect for the family. The setting is somewhat dated - the 1950's, but as long as your child can understand the concept of things having been different long ago, (You'll be explaining "icebox" and a few terms like that) it's really quite an enriching experience. We are very much looking forward to reading other books by this author. Enjoy this charming, comforting read together...don't wait for your child to learn to read it for him or herself!

this book.Kathryn Arnold...>

5-0 out of 5 stars Pinky Pye
This story is about the Pyes (Rachael, her brother Jerry, Mama, Papa, Gracie, Uncle Benny, and Ginger) who go on vacation so Papa ,a famous ornithologist, can figure out what a puffin is doing there. His bad memory gets him in a lot of trouble very early on in the book. Little did he know he wouldn't get much work done due to an abandoned kitten left on their cabin's door step. Pinkey Pye they called her, who would do anything just so someone will say she's cute. Mama brought plenty of coats (even though it was 90 degrees outside) just in case they were walking along the beach and a snow storm arived and matches in case they got lost. Her motto is "Be Prepared." Uncle Benny is Mama's brother even though he is 5 years younger than Rachael and Jerry(Mama's children). He wonders how his crickets are vanishing one by one. He is on a never ending quest to stop sucking his thumb. Gracie is a grumpy old cat who feins boredom through out although she is very interested in a creature lurking in the shadows of the attic... Ginger is the clever dog, but feels a little left out when Pinky steps into the picture. Will her jelousy overcome her common sense? Filled with laughs. Some of the suspence in this book will keep you laughing and crying over their detailed antics. I recommend reading Ginger Pye before this one though. All in All a good book.

This book is wonderful for early readers. It is repetative (necessary for children), but still fun. Every word in the book can be easily sounded out by a young reader. I find early reader books with words that children can not possibly read on their own to be counter-productive. This book is a self-esteem builder. My daughter read it on her own and then read it to my husband. She was very proud and so were we.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a cat person, but liked the book!
These books (the "Early Step Into Reading" books ) have been a great confidence boost for my daughter. Yes, they are partially memorized, but she has learned to sound out words. This is the 3rd "early step" book for [my daughter], and by far the best, since it's based on more than one basic rhyme. I'm glad I bought the library binding. I know I'll use it for my younger daughter when she learns to read! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AN IMAGINATIVE RETELLING OF A TRADITIONAL STORY
Hearts will be warmed by this imaginative retelling of the traditional Christmas story. Mr. Foreman's moonlit illustrations are perfect accompaniments for this long ago tale about a cold winter's night.

According to the cat who lived in a barn in a distant land it was an exceptionally frigid night. It was so icy that the feline was glad for the warm company of the cows. But just as the cat was growing comfortable the barn doors flew open to admit a man, a woman, and a donkey.

Before long the animals heard a baby cry, and then other visitors arrived - shepherds, camels with their masters who were dressed like kings. Oddly enough all of these people knelt in the mud before the baby.

That was a night that brought much change to the world, and even to the cat who was in the barn when a baby was born.

Young animal lovers will especially enjoy this familiar story told through the eyes of a very observant cat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hello Politically Correct Careers
This book was a gift to my 3 year old for Easter 2004. She loves the pictures of Hello Kitty as a ballerina and an artist. The book reinforces the alphabet (she already knows them) and introduces careers that are not readily thought of (i.e. scientist, explorer, juggler, pastry chef, yoga master). If you have a child who loves Hello Kitty, buy this book. It's well worth the money! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Meaningful Story
"The Cat Who Went To Heaven" is one of my favorite book. This is more to the story of painter and his good fortune. The story is about little cat that helps a poor artist to achieve greatness. I like this book very much because there sre beautiful and sweet poems in every chapter. The poems tell the reader the character's feelings, emotions, and details about the evens in the story. The book is only 70 pages and there are nice illastrations. I would like to recommend everyone read this story. This book not only give you joy but there are meaningful messages in this story that everyone should know.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm old and I still remembered this story
I must have read this book when I was less than 10 and I remembered it immediatly as I browsed the children's cat books.
My heart leapt with joy. This book was great. I remember I was so happy at the end. The message is, "Don't trust your preconcieved notions", which is a concept children can't start to understand early enough. The story is sweet and the cat is good and brave. Get this book. I guaruntee satisfaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good story with a moral
This story is very old, but still has the same message, 70+ years later. It's a story of a 'starving artist' and his relationship with a cat. It touches on Buddahism (something I am not familiar with) or religion. It whisps around forgiveness, miracles and patience. It helps if you are a cat lover too. I read this story for the first time as an adult because I love short stories. It is written for a child between 9-13 but any age can enjoy this... actuallly I think you come to appreciate it more if you read it (again) when you are older from the previous reviews I see here. This book is highly recommended!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Life
This book has been a favorite of my family mambers since it was first published in 1930 (My mother received it for her 10th birthday). The book is an excellent primer on Buddhism, and is entertaining and inspirational.Mercy is the message presented throughout the book, and this message is complemented by the message that true goodness comes from within our hearts, not from "leaders" mandating rigid belief systems. The story is that of a little cat who helps an poor artist to achieve greatness (in his craft and in his spirit) through compassion and self-sacrifice. My siblings and I grew up with this book. I read this book (it is only about 70 pages)to my mother the night before she died, and I re-read it tonight, on the eve of my 50th birthday. Although technically a "children's book" (and a Newberry Winner), it is a book that grows with you and, in many ways, is even more meaningful when you read it as an adult.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even after all these years...
The last time my eyes graced the pages of this particular book was over twenty years ago, while I was still in elementary school. Being extremely fond of cats--and having just suffered the loss of my pet cat--I just happened to stumble across the book at my school's library. Intrigued by the title, I checked out the book and read it. Although I was not a Buddhist, I found the book very helpful in my dealing with my grief...and to this day, I have never forgotten this story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Catwings
Catwings
In the story Catwings Harriet, James, Thelma, Roger have to leave their home.
When they were trying to find their now home Roger got hurt by an owl.

I like Catwings because cats can fly. I like the story it's funny. One thing I learned was if cats have wings do not pull on them.

If you were a cat and kids were grabbing you and pulling on your wings and you can't fly anymore. this would be a big problem for a catwing.

This book is so good because cats can fly and the happy ending.

When Roger is better two kids come and find the cats , feed them and take care of them.

3-0 out of 5 stars SEARCHING FOR KIND HANDS
This delightful tale of four winged felines is a read-in-one-sitting treat--great to read aloud as well. A sweet fantasy, CATWINGS relates the adventures of tabby siblings whose mother advised them to leave the city slums for their health--not to mention her second honeymoon... Whimsy and humor combine to create an enchanting piece, which reveals the similarities between two sympathetic (i.e. mutually dependent) species. Purrfect for kids under 10 and all cat lovers. Beats Puss in Boots paws down! It's the Cat's Whiskers--and now with Wings!

5-0 out of 5 stars Catwings
This is about the book CATWINGS. There are four cats: James, Roger, Harriet, and Thelma. They all have wings. Their mom, Janet, has always wondered why her kittens have wings and she does not. This book is fantasy fiction.
The book has cats with wings I don't think it would be true.

In one part of the book Harriet was getting chased by a dog, but her wings got her out. During the book you never know what would happened like, when there was an owl just sitting there watching them, you can find out the rest.

I like this book because I love cats. I recommend this book to people who enjoy cats, or like fictional books.

4-0 out of 5 stars cute story
I loved this book as a kid and still think it's a great, cute little story. The four winged kittens in this book grow up in the city but fly off in order to find some place better. The illustrations are lovely, and cat lovers will enjoy the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great children's book about leaving home
This is a delightful children's book about cats that can fly. Born wild in the city, their wingless mother encourages them to fly away from the urban dangers in search of a different and better life. Of course, dangers in the country are not absent, only different. The tale of their adventures is one that kept my children entertained, and they insisted that it be purchased. After their high praise, I read the book and enjoyed it as much as they did. My children especially loved the happy ending. ... Read more

Book Description

Jenny Linsky, the famous little black cat of Greenwich Village, has never been to school before. When her master, Captain Tinker, sends her to a boarding school in the country to learn the special knowledge of cats — manners and cooperation — she is afraid, among strangers, and so far from home. As soon as she's settled in, taking off the red scarf that makes her feel brave, another student named Pickles, the Fire Cat, is up to his usual mischief, and chases her with his fire truck hook and ladder. She is terrified and runs away. Walking along the railroad tracks, Jenny catches the smell of the city: "You can have the daisies. Give me the sidewalks of New York."

Jenny soon realizes that the Captain would be disappointed if he found out she had left school. It’s then that Jenny decides to stand up to Pickles. She returns bravely and when Pickles next tries his tricks, he's surprised at the "new" Jenny. Pickles learns his manners and Jenny learns that not only can school be fun, but the friendships she makes there will last forever. ... Read more
