5-0 out of 5 stars I think this book was well written.
Chicken Soup For The Kids Soul is about kids of all ages who write stories about sad deaths, achieving dreams, and making choices in life. I would recomend this book for a 9 year old because I liked it and I think they would like it like I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Always Be My Favourite Chicken Soup Book!!
I have read a fan of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books since Grade 8 and I must say that out of all of the series I have read, this is my favourite one. This book is great for kids. It includes stories, and poems that were written by kids FOR kids! This book is great and I love to sit in my bed sometimes at night and read stories from Dating and Relationships to Death and Divorce. Kids can face many troubles out in the world like Gangs, Drugs, AIDS, Death and many other situations. Kids have to make difficult choices sometimes. This book is good because it can really make you think. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who wants something great to read! It can make you laugh or cry. It can make you feel good about yourself. I know it will definetly make you think, it made me think!

4-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag.
Overall the stories are both entertaining and heart warming. Some of them are quite sappy but all of the stories are thankfully short which keeps the flow of the book going at a comfortable reading pace. It's the type of book to read in small chunks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Stories for Youth Groups
I bought this book as tool for my youth ministry. I read the stories to kids in third and fourth grade. The stories are short, interesting and have good moral themes. There are stories to entertain, and teach. I would recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars 101 Stories of Courage, Hope and Laughter

Now this book is the place to find the answers in this very story filled book. I have read pet lovers and teenage soul 2 and this one is right up there with them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kaitlyn Hennessy Bak Middle School of the Arts period 3
Melody Carlson continues her captivating writing in It's my Life: Diary of a teenage girl (book 2.) This book was just as wonderful as the first. Caitlin O' Conner's life never stops being interesting. She has many temptations with her new religion and has problems with her friends. In this novel Caitlin's church youth group goes on a mission to Mexico and there she feels she found her purpose in life, helping others who are less fortunate than her. This mission changes her views on a lot of things and will change yours too. Melody Carlson sucks you in and keeps you in till you reach that back cover and that's when you go buy the next book in the series. Any teen girl will love this book because we can all relate to Caitlin's life. That is why I give it 5 stars, but you must read all of the books in the series in order to get the full effect. But, trust me you'll want to read them all once you've read one.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Diary of A teenage girl, book 2 is Awesome!
It was as exciting as i thought the first one was! In this book she goes more in-depth into life's challenges of any teenage girl living right now. Carlson sure knows how to capture a readers attention. Every single issue she writes about in the book is something that almost all girls can relate too. The very moving storyline keeps you reading from the beginning to the end. You can's stop reading it! If you're a girl going through some tough times right now. This book, and her first one, are the perfect books to read. You'll find out that a lot of things she writes about is very similar to what you're going through. So check this book out! ;)

4-0 out of 5 stars Lindsay Bein book review: Diary of a teenage girl.
The book that I have chosen is called Diary of a Teenage Girl. This book is about a girl who wants to fit in but still abide by what she thinks is what God wants from her. Her mother and father do not get along. She is constantly fighting with her father. At one point she gets into the popular group and learns it isn't so great. She goes to a party and there is drinking, so she gets drivin home by her friend's boyfriend, who soon likes her. Then the young man in her youth group dies and she is faced with a great deal of pain, so she talks about it with her aunt who went to the church. Her two best friends also went to the church. They are a boy and a girl and had been going out for a long time. They decided they would be together forever so it would be okay to have sex. Now her friend is faced with a more serious problem, she is pregnant. Once again she looks to her aunt for advice, and her aunt takes her friend in, but her friend still has to work and take care of the baby that is about to be born.
I think this book is a good way to learn new coping skills. This young girl is faced with some very rough problems and her coping skill is praying or talking. I think this would be a good book for all teenagers to read if they need a little pick-up.
When I started reading this book I couldn't set it down. I didn't set it down until I was completely done. I would recommend this book.
It would also be a good book for parents to read about the every day troubles teenagers face. It is a very good book abou making good choices, and one that I would give to friends to read. It was a hard book to find, but I'm sure with a little help from the internet it can be found.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for Christian Teens!
I loved the first Diary of a Teenage Girl and the 2nd installment didn't disappoint. We need more books out there that display Christian values. Melody Carlson is an excellent storyteller! Another author you might want to check out is Edee Wilcox. She is a new author who has written a book for those girls who have already overstepped the boundaries of purity and are struggling to get back to a relationship with God.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diary of a teenage girl (book 1)

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood Favorites
This was my favorite book growing up, the illistrations are great and the story keeps you on your toes. Great bedtime story book as something is always happening (beware you can't finish in night though). Dragons, demons, giants, dark woods, and angels. A good introduction to the Christian walk in a way a small child can enjoy and still savor as an adult.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm certain that even God keeps this one in His library.
John Bunyan has created a story that will, regardless of your religious affiliation, profoundly move your heart. The author has created settings and characters that boldly reflect the best and worst of all things experienced within a lifetime, for all time. Bunyan's book is as relevant and necessary today as at any point since being written in 1676. If you read only one version of Pilgrim's Progress, make sure that "Dangerous Journey," is it. The poetic flow and wonderful illustrations grab and hold onto to you at word one and never let go.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good revision of Pilgrims Progress.
I found the book to be very good 12 years ago. I read it to my children when they were able to understand it. I also found the illustrations to be extrodinary and helped explain the story very well. I am going to purchase this book again today for my daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of our favorites!
As the foreward of this book says, daily Jewish prayers instill values in children. When we say a prayer before we eat, children understand that it's important to be thankful for what we have, including food on the table. When we pray before going to sleep for our safety, kids learn to be thankful for their lives. The bottom line: we love this book. It has prayers for greeting the new day, and bedtime prayers. When our beloved pet cat passed away this week, we opened the book to the prayer for mourners. By coincidence, the page included an illustration of an elderly woman with a cat! The words and illustrations are right on target for children, and parents will appreciate it, too. I highly recommend this book, and plan to buy it as baby gifts for family and friends. ... Book Description

Who are the saints, why are they important, and what can today's children learn from them? In Loyola Kids Book of Saints, the first book in the Loyola Kids series, author Amy Welborn answers these questions with exciting and inspiring stories, real-life applications, and important information about these heroes of the church. This delightful collection of saints' lives, written in a storybook style for children eight to twelve, explains how saints becomes saints, why we honor them, and how they help us even today.

Divided thematically, the book features more than sixty saints from all over the world and from all across time, including our newest saints, such as St. Katharine Drexel; popular saints, such as St. Anthony of Padua; and Blesseds, such as Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. Each story tells about a saint and encourages readers to consider how they might apply what they learn from the story to their everyday lives. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for Religious Education teachers.
I teach second-grade Religious Education at our local parish. I first saw this book at the library and thoght it might be fun to start a class feature called "Saint of the Week." It quickly became the kids' favorite part of the weekly class. The accounts of the lives of these Saints are all lively and interesting enough to keep the class's attention, and the author still manages to be reverent in tone. Older kids, I am sure, would also enjoy the stories, which are long enough to contain some very interesting details, but not so long as to lose the audience's attention. Then again, how can you lose a class's attention when you tell them the true story of, for example, St. Thomas More or St. Joan of Arc? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
A wonderful book! I give one to everyone I know who is struggling in dealing with this type of loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!!!!!!!!!
Incredible illustrations and wonderful story!! Bought it for my children as I loved the message and thought it would be good in the loss of a pet. Now I find myself in the position of supporting a friend's child as he prepares to die after a 5 yr. battle with cancer. NEVER thought I'd need it for that but was thrilled to find the main character's age (6 yrs old)is the same as this child. I know this book will help him on his journey!

4-0 out of 5 stars Eases feelings at the loss of a pet
For anyone who loves animals and has experienced the loss of one, this story supports the emotional attachment and makes us feel the pet is in a great place. We hope for our pets to be taken care of without us, and this story sets just that stage.
The illustrations support the story and are beautiful in their own right. I have given this book to three friends with children who have lost family pets and all three felt it provided a kind word at that most difficult time.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this book!
This is a must have for anyone with children or who work with children! I still can't read it without tears coming to my eyes. I am the director at a Christian preschool and we have read it many times when hearing questions of pets dying. The story helps children to cope with the lose by helping them envision their pet in a happy, beautiful place with children angels who love them. It also emphasizes the joy of one day being reunited again. Please order this book now or keep the title for future reference. I have never done a book review for Amazon but felt compelled to do one on this book! You won't be sorry!

This book would help anyone (even adults) feel better about a death of a child. Highly recommend. ... Read more

Book Description

This is a non-fiction book about the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, set in the historical context of 16th century Mexico. The beautiful colour paintings, 18 in all, are taken from the oil paintings of Jorge Sanchez Hernandez. His collection, known as the "Nican Mopohua" (a poem the Aztecs created in order to tell this story and hand it down through the ages) is beautiful and tender. They inspire courage and confidence in life's true meaning, and stand in direct contrast to violence, destruction, greed and oppression.Unlike many of Our Lady's apearances in other places, such as Fatima and Medjugorje, she comes with no general message in the words for the world, but rather with a mission of action for two me. To the one "Go and ask, and keep on asking" and to the other "build." And by contrast, the message intended for the Aztec people, and Spanish settlers alike, was not just spoken words, but eloquently with images. With one exquisitely rendered self-portrait and a tilma full of roses, Our Lady changes one man's heart, liberates a people from the suffereing of human sacrifice and gives hope for the end of foreign oppression. With these few images, Our Lady brought about, on a grand scale, spiritual conversion of Mexico that Christian missionaries up to that time had been unable to accomplish. Her spoken message: "Come to me and tell me all your woes and problems, I am your Merciful Mother, the Mother of the One, True God, the Mother of all the nations on Earth, and I want to alleviate your sufferings." She comes as Mother to remind us she is ever with us, always ready to help, to guide, to comfort, nurture and love us. No obstacle stands in her way. We need only turn her in our anxiety.Juan Diego gives an example to all those who would volunteer for noble causes, not by neglecting his family, even though he has been asked directly to go on a divine mission. Our Lady acknowledges and respects his devotion to his dying uncle, visits him to comfort and cure him, and gives him also a message for the bishop. The story appeals delightfully to young boys and girls whose confidence and self-esteem may be fragile, the littlest ones, the quiet, timid ones, the overlooked ones, as they find in Juan Diego encouragement and hope. Thier Mother in Heaven notices their needs and their circumstances, and She will stand by them in all they must face, because they are very dear to Her. ... Read more

Book Description

When a poor devout widow begs for a scrap of bread from a rich faithless baker, she promises to participate in the king's wedding mass as payment for the baker's generosity. The baker writes "One Mass" on a scrap of paper and places it on his scale to determine how much bread it is worth. To his and the entire town's surprise, nothing in the shop, not even the gigantic wedding cakes made for the king, outweighs the simple piece of paper representing the true worth of a mass. Luminous old-world watercolor paintings grace the interior of the book and gold foil artwork lends an air of solemnity and sacred beauty to the story. ... Read more

Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm the illustrator of this book, and I was very happy and touched when I observed the exhaustive reviews above. I absolutely agree with them, the story is really wonderful. I especially admire its polished style, it is really carefully-chosen. I remember when I red it the first time, it was a special experience for me to read the story. It is so touching, beautiful and amazing. I warmly recommend this book for everybody, who loves the classical values.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite, beautiful, luminous story and illustrations!
Want to give your children or other children whom you love a precious gift? Give them this book! It's one they'll read as children and they'll read 40 years from now to their own children. It's not only a beautiful story, but one that will strengthen their faith.

Wonderfully written by Josephine Nobisso and luminously illustrated by Katalin Szegedi, The Weight of a Mass, is an original cultural folk tale based upon a true story. The story reads and looks like a fairy tale.

A ragged, destitute widow arrives at the kingdom's prosperous bakery and begs only a crust of bread in exchange for offering a royal wedding Mass for the baker.

The baker scoffs and tears off a tiny piece of tissue paper on which he writes the words: One Mass, intending to place them it on the scale to find out the value of a Mass.

Much to his surprise, when he drops a piece of old bread on the other side of the scale, it does not tip. So, he enlists his son to stack more and more baked goods on top of the scale. Out come cherry topped cupcakes, marzipan apple, filled chocolates, poppy seed cakes, rolls, donuts, fruitcakes, cream cakes, berry tarts, poached pears, plum pudding, candied fruits, almond confetti, crsuhed walnuts, and eventually the royal wedding cake.

The father, his son, the old woman, and others in the kingdom come to learn the weight of a Mass.

The story includes an author's postscript recounting the original story as told by Father Stanislaus from Luxembourg who tells of a conversation between a butcher and a Captain of the Forest Guards that was interrupted by an old woman begging a morsel of meat in exchange for a Holy Mass intention. As a result of the miracle, the Captian began attending Mass daily and one of his sons later received a calling to the priesthood.

I cannot say praise this book enough. It's a genre that is sorely needed in children's literature. Not only is it a beautiful book, but it teaches about the richness of the Mass and the priceless presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

The paintings are wonderful, particularly those of an arched interior of the Cathedral and the bishop holding up the Eucharist at the wedding Mass.

Do yourself a favor. Purchase this book for your children, your grandchildren, and any other children whom you love.

4-0 out of 5 stars prince caspian
Lucy, Peter, Susan, and Edmund have viseted narnia before, and they will visit it again. Narnia is a country that you can only get into if you believe. If you enter it in one place, you can not enter though that place again, once you come out. The four kids end up in Narnia and they are on a mission. Prince Caspians father, Miraz is trying to kill him. The kids have to stop him with the help of Aslan, the lion, and Trumpkin the dwarf. Also many other mystical animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prince Caspian/Buba Jones
I'm doing a report on the book Prince Caspian. The author is C.S.Lewis, who also wrote the novels The Magicians Nephew,The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and four other fabulous books. Of a scale of one to ten I would give it a nine. The book Prince Caspian was published in 1956.The main characters are Peter, Lucy, Susan, Edmund, and Prince Caspian. Prince Caspian isn't exactly a prince because he does not come from the same family as the king. Peter, Edmund, Lucy, and Susan are kings and queens of Narnia. The book Prince Caspian is the fourth of the seven novels of Narnia. The world of Narnia is a magical world with fauns, other stuff like giants. The main characters want to defeat the evil king Miraz, and put Caspian on the throne. The characters Edmund and Miraz have a duel and eventually King Edmund wins and mirazes army surrenders and they put the new King Caspian on the throne. I think that the moral of this story is "have faith".The characters learn to trust their little sister Lucy, although she is allot younger. I also think that all of the characters become more adventurous. I really loved reading this book, and suggest it to everyone from 6 to 13. I think that it is better to read it themselves, but it doesn't matter about that. It is still a very good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars the lion the witch and the wardrobe
I am about to talk to you about a book I read in class. These books are fabulous, only if you like adventure. If you read these books you would know what I mean, check them out.

Trouble is brewing in Baker, Washington. Three popular athletes havebeen stricken with a mysterious ailment--or phenomenon--that leaves them rantingincoherently, paranoid, and eventually comatose. Ever ready to seek truth andjustice, teen twins Elisha and Elijah and their parents hop in their van, theHoly Roller, and head to Washington. As members of a top-secret presidentialinvestigative team, the Veritas Project, the family must be prepared togo undercover at any moment. Soon they are deeply embroiled in a deadly mysterythat involves witchcraft, bullying, the ghost of a boy who hanged himself longago, and a most diabolical weapon.

Frank Peretti, well known for his Christian thrillers (This Present Darkness/Piercing theDarkness, TheVisitation, etc.) draws from his own experiences of not fitting in as achild to create this alarming tale of vengeance. The twins and their parentsoccasionally turn to their faith for guidance, but the crux of the story lies inthe danger that comes from treating less cool kids like second-class citizens.References to the tragedy at Columbine remind readers just how painfully realthe problem is. Peretti seems to use the twins' father as a voice for his ownviewpoint: "Metal detectors may keep weapons out of the schools, and securityofficers can maintain at least a surface tranquility, but these will not keepout the pain, anger, and loneliness that cause a child to bring a weapon toschool in the first place." 5-0 out of 5 stars Frank lives up to his reputation
If you love Christian suspense, or even if you don't, you will after you read this. Twins Elijah and Elisha and their parents make up a highly secret investigative team. The family goes all over the country to find "not only the Facts, but the Truth behind the Facts." In a small Washington town, a highschool's star athletes are coming down with a mysterious illness that leaves them insane. The Springfield family is sent to investigate, finding a mysterious ghost, a second class system, and witchcraft surrounding them. They soon realizes that there is the Baker High that everyone chooses to see, and the second Baker High where people are harrassed, abused, bullied, stolen from, and made fun of every day. What measures will people go to to stop it? Enough to murder? I loved this eerie book! Not one section was boring, I was hooked to every page! The only problem is that I have to wait till the next book comes out...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hangman's Curse
The Hangman's Curse is Frank Peretti's first installment in a new series, The Veritas Project, aimed at young teens. The story unfolds just as if it is a story right out of today's headlines and deals with the issue of bullying on the high school campus. The Springfield family, consisting of twins Elisha and Elijah and their parents, make up the investigation team working on The Veritas Project. The program's mission is to investigate and solve strange mysteries, crimes, and occurrences, seeking not only the facts, but the truth behind the facts. In Hangman's Curse, the Springfield family's assignment is to discover the truth behind the mysterious form of madness that is inflicting Baker High School's athletes. What is causing this madness? Is it tied to the superstition of a curse left by the ghost of a student who has haunted the school since he hanged himself at the school in the 1930's? Who is the ghostly figure with a hawk on his shoulder that is seen by those tormented by the mysterious madness? Is he Abel Frye and is Abel Frye the student who hung himself? What is the meaning of the crude etching of a hangman figure on the lockers of each victim? It seems that it is the bullies that have been targeted and are the ones contracting the mysterious illness. Are they suffering a form of revenge from a group of students that is meeting secretly practicing witchcraft? What is the truth? The answers are uncovered as you follow the Springfield family's quest for the truth behind the mystery. The Hangman's Curse is a fast-paced and riveting page turner. The truth behind the mysterious madness will surprise the reader. Teens as well as adult fans of Peretti will enjoy this book. When finished, the reader will be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and fun.
"Hangman's Curse" and "Nightmare Academy" are entertaining and easy reads. If you've been doing heavy research or reading this is a good switch. Light, and fun, I enjoyed it after a long study program I was in.. I read both books back to back so this review will be seen under both books.

I liked "The Visitation" better, but all three are worthy of your money..

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book That Will Keep You Hanging
Frank Peretti is an excellent writer. All of his books keep you in suspense. This book highlights the problems of teasing and making fun of those who are different, and is helpful if you are teased. Also, if you tease others maybe this book will help you see how much it hurts.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Sweet Book
This book is awesome! I Absolutely loved the part with the witches, spiders, and typical science nerd. It is about the Veritas Project,an undercover government team made up of a family of Christians. It makes an awsome book and will probably make an even sweeter movie. I also Reccomend book 2: nightmare academy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific for Ages 3-8
This "Read Aloud" series is by far the most enjoyable children's bible stories we have found. The illustrations are wonderful and the story selection in each volume is varied and interesting, but not overwhelming. Because of the writing style, the stories are very captivating for little children to hear. The use of pattern and repetion brings the action to life and the word choices are within their range. A friend told me it has been a fabulous resource for her sunday school class. Best of all, when my son began to read, these books proved to be the best and most interesting early readers for him because that same pattern, repetetion and word choice that was great for young listeners is perfect for young readers. My son now reads to his siblings and they all love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Your Traditional Children's Bible Story Book!
This series is by far the best of the best. The stories and illustrations are fabulous!

Children often find the illustrations in other Bible story books scary or weird. While the illustrations are true to the times in terms of dress, they are exaggerated in size, yet simple. For example, Zaccheus, "who was to little to reach high things..." is shown as a small man in HUGE chair. (p. 6-7)

The text is delightful! For example in "The Boys and Girls and Jesus," the children come to see Jesus as part of families, i.e. "Every day lots of daddies and mommies came to hear Jesus talk. Grandpas and grandmas and friends came, too. Some days - there were too many people to get inside a house. Then, the daddies and the mommies and the grandpas and the grandmas and the friends stood right out in the sunshine..." (p.71-74)

Great for older children to read to younger children. The best part is adults will enjoy this book too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toddler introduction to Bible stories
My 2 1/2 year old loves this book and requests it nightly. The language is simple for toddlers to understand, yet is Biblically accurate. The book summarizes the stories at the end and sometimes them a question they can easily apply. This book is a sweet way to tell Bible stories to the little ones, yet deep enough that older children will continue to get more out of the stories. The illustrations are simple and catch the children's attention. I plan to own all 4 volumes as we have worn out the first two already!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars SPELL BOUND
Our school used this series (all 4 volumes)with children ages 3-7 for at least 10 years. We had to purchase a set for each class because the children read and reread them so often.

The simplicity and predictablilty of the text coupled with the striking illustrations produces spell bound audiences of young listeners, usually begging you to read "just one more".

This series is a wonderful introduction to the Bible !

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
Ms. Lindvall does an excellent job of relaying classic Bible stories in a manner that is poignant, yet developmentally appropriate for young minds. It is evident that she has taken the utmost care and reverence in adapting the text. The beautiful illustrations by H. Kent Puckett accompany the stories in a captivating, powerful way. There are few enough words per page, and the illustrations are so well done, that the combination makes this series an excellent resource for sharing the Bible with children, and maintaining their attention long enough to deliver the Message. Each book includes 5 Bible Stories from both the Old and New Testaments. Stories include those such as that of Creation, Joseph and His Coat, Jesus Stills the Storm, and Noah and the Ark. ... Book Description

Best-selling author Kenneth N. Taylor does much more than tell children what is right and wrong in his latest work, Right Choices. He incorporates a solid biblical foundation and illustrations to help young children discern what God says is right and wrong. Each of the 26 spreads begins with a poem and includes pictures, Bible verses, prayers, and text discussing one topic. "Wrong" topics include lying, cheating, stealing, fighting, and making fun of others. "Right" topics teach children to honor their parents, talk to God often, be patient, keep promises, and read and obey the Bible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Christian Living
This is a wonderful way for Christian children to remember how to do the right thing. For those of you who march to a different divine drummer, try either Bobtales Bedtime Stories or Proud to be Good! Music Casette for a more humanistic approach to character education. No matter which beat you prefer - reminding your child how to make the right choices is essential in today's crazy world!

5-0 out of 5 stars Right Choices
I teach a Bible class to preschoolers and I purchased this book as a guide for my "how to be good lessons," which I use in conjuction with the Bible lessons. I start each lesson with a "how to be good lesson" found in Right Choices and then proceed to the Bible lesson. The structure of the book is great - one subject per story, simple questions to ask the children, a prayer and a scripture. The children grasp the concepts and are quickly learning the basics of how God would have us live.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for family devotions with very young children.
We picked up this book while looking for a guide for our family devotions with our three year old. The structure of the book is great - one subject per story, simple questions for you to ask your child, a prayer and a scripture. Our three year old grasps the concepts quickly and is learning the basics of how God would have us live. We have enjoyed the book as parents and our son asks to have devotional time and brings us the book. ... Read more
