5-0 out of 5 stars Good but Simple
As an experienced cook, I found the recipes in this book to be somewhat simplistic. However, since it was intented for children, I believe that the basic text and detailed instructions included are forgiveable. My family has found several favorites among these recipes, and every dish we've tried has come out well. Most other children's cookery books tend to focus so much on cooking techniques that the actual recipe is forgotten. I found that not to be the case here. Kid's can have fun both making these dishes, and eating the product of their labors. The historical facts about our War for Independance included are also interesting. I would definitely give this book an A+, in the veiw of both teacher and practical cook. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook for kids!
This is a great cookbook for kids. It has engaging illustrations and clearly-written instructions. Plus, the food is really good. My mentee made the guacamole recipe, and everyone wanted a copy of it. I highly recommend this book, and have bought extra copies for friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful culinary adventure
The Usborne Internet-Linked Children's World Cookbook is a unique approach that incorporates Usborne-recommended, culinary oriented websites suitable for children, with forty simple, delicious recipes drawn from ethnic and regional cuisines from around the world, ranging from the floating markets in Thailand to Italian delicatessens. It should be stressed that access to a computer is not necessary to enjoy and utilize The Usborne Internet-Linked Children's World Cookbook as a wonderfully illustrated compendium of food facts and recipes. From Peanut Bread (Africa); Cauliflower in Cheese Sauce (Holland); Salade Nicoise (France); and Guacamole (Latin American; to Basmati Rice (India); Shish Kebabs (Turkey); Scones (England); and Fried Rice with Vegetables (China); The Usborne Internet-Linked Children's World Cookbook will take any young kitchen cook on a wonderful culinary adventure! Of special interest are the sections for "Hints and Tips"; "Fruit Around The World"; "Cheeses From Around The World"; "Breads From Around The World"; "Cakes and Pastries"; and, of course, the free, downloadable recipes available through the "Internet Links". The Usborne Internet-Linked Children's World Cookbook is very highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and useful!
This book is just great! Recipes that actually produce yummy food, presented in a kid-oriented way that engages them.

The rest of us might tire a little of some of the extra efforts involved, but it's not directed to us! For the curious, let me explain:

On the inside of the front cover is a "wizard wheel". This wheel contains foods on the outside, measurements on the inside. The foods on the outside of the wheel are the magical words for the foods and their english equivalent. Each recipe contains atleast one magical word-identified food, and you use the wheel (matching up an indicator to the magical word you need identified, and reading across) to translate (but many times you can figure it out: kristalshayks is salt, for instance).
Alternative "magic" terms are also used for measurements, like beaker is 1 cup. Those are explained on page 4, and are not on the Wizard Wheel anywhere.

If you are the type of person who likes to jump right in to something and figure things out as you go, this could cause problems for you! You should really translate your entire recipe before you get started!

That said, there is plenty of silliness and wit for those looking for such things. It's a delight visually, and the overall tone is very warm and enticing.

Creative and engaging!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Original
I would highly recommend this book and anything else published by "Innovative Kids" My five year old daughter loves it and so does my nine year old son. The recipes are easy and fun with secret ingredients and magical "spells" that the kids can say as they wave the magic wand (provided) over the recipe they just made. The graphics are whimsical. This book is just really well thought out and original.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hocus-Pocus Magical CookBook
I bought this book at the school book fair as a birthday gift. When I got home My kids would not hear of it. We have been making magical meals out of it ever since. They had the hocus pocus pancakes one morning and swore that they felt silly all day. I then took it to work to show to my clients and I had to go back to the book fair and order nine more! My kids are 9 and 7 they believe in magic! This book should be advertised so more people would see it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great idea, appealing recipes, but be forewarned!
I am having at least as much fun playing with my daughter's new Easy-Bake oven as she is, but ugh, those nasty mixes! I couldn't wait to try out some real recipes, and the ones in this cute little cookbook are very appealing. I'm not much of a baker, but the tiny spoons included with the book made it easy to measure just the right amount of all the ingredients. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that not all the recipes are sized just right for the pan, and cleaning out an Easy-Bake is not easy or fun at all. To her credit, the author responded to my email with a note that most of the recipes will fill more than one pan, and to fill each pan only halfway. In my opinion, that is the sort of information that belongs in the cookbook, but now that you have read it here, you can safely use the book. Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful, well written cookbook kids can read and use too
We received a light bulb oven for Christmas and I had read these reviews about how great this book was. So Santa left this book too, and it has been so fun. My kids will eat anything that comes out of the oven, and they have fun mixing their own recipes and even their own dinners! I knew I didn't want to buy the very expensive mixes to go with the oven, and this book is definitely a "must have" for me.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the refill mixes!!!
This is one super cookbook. It has loads of ideas to expand on from your favorite light bulb oven. Many ideas that you can keep basic or change a bit. Kids love this oven (boys, too, readers) so if your child likes to cook get this as a functional accompaniment to the Easy bake oven. The tiny measuring spoons are great, too!

4-0 out of 5 stars A necessary purchase for Easy Bake owners!
This is what you've been waiting for if you've had enough teeny weeny cakes that cost...If your child can't get enough of her Easy Bake, you need this book! Some of the recipes need minor alteration, like more sugar or what not, but just knowing the proportions that will fit in the pan is so great, we don't even care. I wasn't looking forward to dividing all of my big cake recipes by 16, but this mom has done that already. There are even big batches of mixes you can make ahead and then just add liquid to if you want a quicker baking project. The brownies are delicious!! Also, the itty bitty measuring spoons (1/8, 1/16, 1/32) are adorable and useful. My daughter is proud to have her own utensils and cookbook to go with her oven.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT Cookbook for the kid in all of us.
If you have a child with an Easy Bake Oven, then this book is a "must have!" With every recipe using ingredients we all have in our kitchen, this book makes it inexpensive to cook in these little ovens. We LOVE our book, and don't know what we would do without it!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars bread in a bag worked great in class, tasted good too
I had a reading unit on The Boxcar Children #1. We used many of the receipes in class, the bread in the bag was very successful. I had the children bring as many ingredients as possible. We did as much as possible in class. The book was very well laid out. The pictures that matched the book were great. Sometimes I would have a child take home one of the copies and try a receipe at home, with permission of course. Keep up the good work on publishing good books. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Confusing and frustrating
My kids and I have tried 2 recipes from this book and the measurements of the ingredients seem way off. The bread recipe was so dry that I had to add almost one cup of additional liquid. The pictures are very cute and fun for kids to look at, but confusing when looking for details of the recipes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great concept but TYPOS!
I just wrote the following email to DK Books about this book:
We got this book for Christmas and have used it a lot. My kids (aged 7 & 5) are able to do everything themselves now except turn on the oven and the stove, which Mommy does. But still, there are some typos in the book that are frustrating my kids. There is a recipe in the book for "fruity tarts" which definitely has errors in it. It calls for only 2 TBL of butter, which is impossible! You can't make tart dough that way! But what is the correct amount? My kids have been increasing the amount every time they make it (we are now up to 8 TBL) but the tarts still don't turn out. Can you tell us what the right amount should be? And if there are any other typos in the recipes, we'd like to know aobut them too. Otherwise, we love the book! We've made just about every recipe except the soup one.
Peace and good
