5-0 out of 5 stars Great book and kit
I just received this and I was very impressed. Along with the book (beautiful designs that can be expanded on), it comes with 20+ sheets of paper, a measuring grid (plastic-type material), a folding tool and several types of templates (for cards, mini envelopes, etc.; durable material). I can't wait to get started making cards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book with great ideas!
This book is great for simple, yet impressive cards. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I like the details that go into the projects which make the cards very unique, not overwhelming or gaudy. Perfect for giving to little kids and adults alike. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to get started!
I purchased this Beadling book as a Christmas present for my Mom. She had mentioned an interest in doing some beading and since this book comes with everything you need to get started (a good supply of beads and wire), it was a perfect choice.

Just looking through the pages will get you wanting to bead. There are color photos and diagrams that talk you through the process. You start out with a simple beadling to learn the stitching and then advance to spiders, grasshoppers, mermaids, etc.

This is the perfect book for anyone wanting to bead. I also highly recommend Geckos & Other Bead Animals by Drew Wilkens. There is a little bit of overlap, but with both books you will become a beadling expert!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beadlings-awesome!
I'm 19 and just bought this book for myself. I'm having a blast with it! The book is extremely well written. At first I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but the instructions are VERY clear as are the diagrams. Excellent book for all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very instructive & excellent value
My 14-year old daughter asked me to buy her this after using it in an art lesson. It comes with a supply of beads enough to do 17 items. Then I ordered 2 more copies for her Girl Guide group.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Book
This is one of my favorite books from Klutz. The kids I work with don't speak or read English but they can make all the animals here with no problems just by following the clear diagrams. We all love the photos of the many creations. At a recent family fair we sold some of our creations. The Angle and the spider are favorites as is the Gekko.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictlings
Klutz produces wonderful books, and this one is among their best. While some of their books are clearly for children (based on the types of crafts produced and the simplicity of the projects), Beadlings offers kid and adult appeal. I am over 30 and had a great time making these with a nine-year-old friend (he made the baby tree frog). As usual, Klutz's instructions are crystal clear. Beadlings is more creative than many similar beading books because it uses bugle and wonder beads in addition to seed beads. The book also offers some great suggestions about what to DO with all the cute little critters you make. A suggestion that they don't make is to use the beadlings as earrings--just attach to a French hook (which can be bought in bulk very cheaply). While they give enought beads to make the projects, anyone who wants to keep going will need a fresh supply, and the specific beads they use are not necessarily easy to find in craft shops. Many internet sites offer the supplies at great prices. I have bought a lot of beads to get variety in the project colors. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I have to say that the book is simple to read and it shows one the steps in order for one to apply clown white and the other materials in steps that go along with face painting yourself like a clown, etc. the text(book) has live photos of kids, and on the following page it has several sketched photos of how the make up in applied. the book is low priced. the book contains like around 40 pages, and you actually learn alot.
Now if your dream has always been to apply corpsepaint and need a good book-i suggest you get this one because it is pretty good. the only thing i have to say that the book does not have any toll free numbers along with addresses that state the places in this country USA OR CANADA of the places that sell clown make up or also known as "Corpsepaint." clown white is known as corpsepaint in the heavy metal world
Fantastik. this book provides the basics to all, then the rest is up too you!!

In addition to giving instructions for sixteen different characters, the author offers suggestions for costuming.Necessary materials are listed with helpful hints on where to find them.Step-by-step instructions are listed for each character. This is a delightful craft book with excellent illustrations for all face-painting novices. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars The Kids Like It!
I bought this book thinking it was another book I saw on TV called "The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions". At first I was very dissapointed with the book because it didn't have the exciting secret toy store recipes like the book on TV, but after 3 weeks on our book shelf my kids have already made two projects and seem to be enjoying the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very average at best.
I have not read the othe concoctions books people are talking about, but I did buy this one after seeing a woman on Living It Up with Ali & Jack. I could only remember the book had the name concoctions in it. My neighbor then informed me that I had purchased the wrong book. Oh well, I am not returning the book, but I am a little concerned that other people are making the same unfortunate mistake. In an age where money is hard to come by it is very sad that publishers would create look a like books wiht similar names. This book seems to benefit from the overwhelming success of the other series, I am sure that is not by mistake. In any event I will be purchasing the other books because that is what I was looking for. I looked over this book with by children and there was very little interest on their part, they only want to make the projects they saw on TV, which are NOT in this book. The book is a good concept, but is very average at best.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT THE PBS BOOK!!!
Becareful, I read a review here that said that this is the book from PBS... It IS NOT. I bought the book after reading the review and just sent it back. It is not even by the same authors who wrote the PBS book. I agree with some of the other reviewers, this sounds like a scam job at the expense of children and their parents. I may have kept the book if I wasn't so upset about being deceived. If you are looking for the PBS book it is called "The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions" by John & Danita Thomas. I have sent an email to the authors about this rip off book, I hope they take some type of action.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Basic Book of art/craft recipes
This is a great basic book of art and craft recipes. I checked it out of the library after seeing it at a friend's house, and now I want my own copy. Besides recipes, project ideas, notes on early art and art materials and bits of art history are included.

Some of the other reviewers have been a little unfair, slamming the book or the publisher for their not knowing what they had ordered. This book is not a knock off or trying to capitalize on something else. The original copyright of this book, as in the old library book I have in my hands, is 1995 -- which would keep it from being a knock off by the publisher or author. On top of that, if you go to the PBS website, and search for Kids' Concoctions, this is the book that shows up.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad book, but not what I expected either!
I don't want to bash this book or its publisher, but someone needs to make some changes. I also made the mistake of thinking this book was the book from the PBS show Kid Concoctions as did my sister. I'm sure many others are doing the same. This book is not bad, the problem is that it is very upsetting feeling that you were tricked into buying a knock off. Even if it isn't a knock off, that is the perception many of us have. Not to mention the fact that my kids could not make any of the project they saw on TV with this book. I suggest the publisher change the name to someting more original. Just my thoughts. ... Read more

Arriving at a precise definition of cool may be next to impossible, but almost any girl would probably agree that this little book is indeed full of cool stuff to decorate her room to the hilt. Why hang a plain bulletin board, peg rack, or window treatment when you can make a mesmerizing memo board (fabric, rickrack, felt cutouts, silk flowers), Mexican hat rack (painted folk-art motifs), or illustrated curtain (magazine images on a clear shower curtain)? Who wants ordinary frames and phones when she can surround her photos with fake fur or beads and baubles, and bedeck her phone with rhinestones and pearls?

The authors strike just the right balance between kid-friendly ideas told in cool-kid lingo and the parental voice of reason, advising readers when to check with their elders before charging ahead. "Doors of Perception," for example, warns kids that all but the most open-minded parents might veto this project that entails painting and decoupaging photos directly on the door. But alternative suggestions include decorating a door-size sheet of butcher paper, aluminum foil, or felt for a less permanent but equally creative approach. The pages overflow with eye-catching graphics that make for fun browsing, but except for the occasional diagram there are no pictures of the finished product. Fear not: the excellent directions are more than adequate to steer young crafters through the process while giving them free reign to arrive at results that are entirely their own. --Amy Handy ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This book is pathetic
I wasn't very impressed with this book. It gives the assumpstion that all girls who read it are "crafty girls", and are just the thought of fabric and scissors makes their fingers twitch with excitement. I don't know about you, but I doubt that many girls, especially young adults for whom this book is targeted too, are actually this crafty. So that, of course, means that many projects require complicated sewing, putting together, figuring out how to do- I don't have patience for those kinds of projects! The ideas for projects were nothing very new, and kind of dull and strange... like decorating a calculator with gems and beads, painting a phone green and gluing plastic bugs to it, making a net canopy for your bed with 36 yards of tulle... you get the idea. And, these projects aren't exactly budget-minded, either. Come on, the cost of materials and supplies for many of these projects require you to spend AT LEAST ten dollars just for one project- and in many cases, even more. Another thing that makes this book so bad is that their are no color pictures or step-by-step photos showing how to do the project or even a photo of the finished project- just a poorly-drawn line drawing. Please save your money, and buy a different craft book. Out of all of the good ones out there, this one with it's extremely high price (thirteen bucks for a little-and I mean LITTLE- paperback book), yes, is a RIP-OFF!!

2-0 out of 5 stars just-- blah
I thought a couple of neat ideas were in this book, but lots were not so intresting. Like the disco ball was fun,but the putting of jewels on every single thing is something that i was not interested in. i mean who wants rhinstones on their calculator?

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding gift for young teenage girls!!!
This is the best gift I've found in a long time for young teenage girls. I've given this book as a gift several times, and the recipients just LOVE it!!! They have a blast trying all the different cool stuff to make in the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save yorself some money, don't buy this book!
This book is so horribly boring! I read th whole thing. The book's crafts are things that anyone could of thought of. Like putting jewels on a frame. Most of the crafts just say to add jewels to this add jewels to that so call this read a waste of time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Any Girl Wanting to Spice Up Her Day
This book was much better than I expected. Upon recieving it, I thought it would be either really weird crafts or the usually hum-drum. I was wrong.

Crafty Girl's Cool Stuff book helps you to make cool room decorations, things for lounging at the pool or even things that are just cute. Even if you don't make the crafts in here, they give you lovely ideas to create your own crafts.

The reason why I give this book a four star rating however, is that a few of the crafts inside were a little too boppy for me, meaning they were too pink and fuzzy. Either way, it's a good book and I'd recommend to anyone who is looking to spice up any desk area or plain-jane room. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 1/3 directions 2/3 paper
The description of this book was not clear to me when I bought it. (I am an origami person, not really an airplane person.) There are directions for 12 airplanes and (about) 6 pages of paper for each plane. The pages are marked with fold lines and numbers. They are printed with bright, vivid, interesting designs on both sides of the paper. With multiple pages for each plane, this would be a great book for sharing with several kids (or adults) all making planes together. The only reason I subtracted one star is that after all the preprinted paper is used up, the instructions are mostly useless. The instructions are like "fold on line 4" which is only useful if you have the preprinted paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift idea
I gave this book to both my father and brother and they loved it. We have contest to see who can throw the planes the furthest. It was a good book to bring the family together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for little kids!
I bought this book on a whim -- I wanted a quiet indoor activity that my 7 year old niece and my mom could do together. My niece absolutely LOVED this book. She was old enough to know how to read, and young enough to enjoy doing little crafty projects -- I think that's a key combination to how much a child will like this book. She could figure out the directions herself, and she and my mom spent a few hours making the projects in the book. Later, she reused some of the pipe cleaners to make up her own projects.

All in all, this book kept her occupied for several hours over the weekend. I expect that she's still having fun with it -- we bought her a stack of pipe cleaners from the local craft store.

I HIGHLY recommend this book -- it's not messy or noisy, kids like it, they can follow the book or use their imaginations, they can do the projects independently or in a small playgroup, and buying more pipe cleaners is very inexpensive -- a few dollars gets you several packets. I bet it would be a great activity for kids taking long car trips, or for rainy-day fun.

My _ONLY_ critique of this book is that they should give enough pipe cleaners for TWO of each project, instead of for just one. That way, if a child wants to play with another person, each one can make the same item. The cost of doing so should be quite small, as the the pipe cleaners are really cheap, but even if it raised the book cost by another dollar or two, it would be worth it!

3-0 out of 5 stars okay
I think this book is very creative but there is nothing to do with the animals when you finish them. and so i just put them in a drawer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pipe Cleaners Gone Crazy
I bought this book for my son,who just turned 8. He had wanted to make animals out of pipe cleaners, they had done this at school. He really liked this book. I liked it because it comes with enough pipe cleaners to make everything in the book. It really does! The pictures are step by step and really clear. We had a lot of fun with this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars How Stupid
I teach a class of 2nd graders this book is even too childish for them. I don't even think that this book deserves a star, but it looks like i have to give it one so I did.

Preserving the precious moments of childhood is fun and easy with Now and Then. Laid out in eight separate sections, each with a colorful design, the book uses a fill-in-the-blank format that makes it easy to record the numerous and memorable changes from kindergarten to seventh grade. There is room for children to write about achievements and milestones, what they want to be when they grow up, lessons they have learned, friends, classmates, and more. Each section also has a handy pocket in which to conveniently organize irreplaceable drawings, certificates, and other important treasures. 4-0 out of 5 stars The best gift for a creative teen or young adult.
I can't sew. I can't draw. I can't make anything. I am not crafty or artistic and it drives me crazy. I bought this book and made really cool and easy stuff. I think it's the perfect book for someone who is dying to be creative and crafty but feels like they might have two left scissors. It's fun and easy. The instructions are clear and it's really the ideal gift! ... Read more
