4-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT COMPANION TO THE QUEST SERIES
My son (only 5) listened to every one of the Deltora Quest series (which have little or no pictures) and he liked being able to refer to the Book of Monsters to get an idea of what the various creatures looked like. We really enjoyed having this in hand while we read the other books. Great pictures, mildly irritating narration to the drawings.

5-0 out of 5 stars A review of the Deltora Book of Monsters
This book is excellent if you enjoy Deltora Quest and Deltora Shadowlands. It gives information on many of the creatures mentioned in the books, so that you can have a better visual of the book. It is useful to keep around as you read the books, so that you can pick it up and read about monsters from the book. You can also see a picture, so it is much easier to visualize the book as you read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The final challenge
Six gems weigh down the Belt of Deltora. Now the three must persue the final challenge, the Valley of the Lost. They know that the great Diamond awaits them. When they arrive, many people who are little more then shadows are there, many from the city they hoped hid the heir - Tora, sister city to Del. Inside, fighting monsters is not their challenge. Instead, several mind games do. Jasmine wishes to take the Diamond by force, but Lief knows better. As they figure out the last puzzle just as their time is gone, they are given permission to take the diamond. But the Guardian had switched the diamond for a different one. They realize that the woman who had followed them and pretended to leave had stolen it. They are told to go get it, so finally the Belt is complete. The Valley of the Lost disappears, and the people within are returned to normal. Now they must find the heir.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most thought-provoking in the series.
Valley of the Lost has been the best of the Deltora Quest books, because it more than the others encourages readers to solve plot puzzles before the characters do.
For instance, when Barda, Jasmine and Leif reach the guardian's abode of the seventh and final gem, they must undergo certain trials to gain the jewel. Further, each part of answer to the challenge question is another enigma all in itself. Some puzzles I figured out before the book gave them up, others stumped me. I believe even children in junior high would find this a delicious read.
Some very important series-broad plot lines are revealed in this book about Tora's link to Del; don't miss this one!
Plus: Doom's true identity is finally revealed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragonlance for the younger crowd!
This series of books not only made my 4th grader who loves to read disappear into it's pages for days on end by also entranced my 5th grader who thinks comic books are real books. The most wonderful part of this series is it's complete lack of that boy/girl mushy stuff that quite frankly my kids don't need yet another dose of!

5-0 out of 5 stars The seventh thrilling book in the Deltora Quest series.
Lief, Jasmine, and Barda have found six of the seven gems of the Belt of Deltora. But the final part of their journey may also be the most dangerous. The location of the seventh gem, the diamond, is the Valley of the Lost, a place from which no person has ever returned. But their determination to save their land is greater than their fear. Upon entering the swirling mists of the valley, they are immediately captured by the Guardian. In order to obtain the gem, they must decode the Guardian's riddle. If they try to steal the gem, they will be cursed with misfortune. But if they do not solve the puzzle, their souls will be trapped forever in this desolate place, and Deltora will remain forever under the control of the evil Shadow Lord. All fans of Deltora Quest won't want to miss this, the seventh book in this thrilling series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gem five.. will they survive?
As they travel to Dread Mountain, Lief, Barda, and Jasmine find a clear spring. But an ominous sign makes them unsure. They are thirsty, and out of water. They drink, and later discover the entire truth of Dreaming Spring. They also meet the Kin, a fabled creature thought to be extinct. The Kin take them to the mountain, but their only young follows. Can they care for her, and themselves, too? She proves to be helpful, and as they learn about what happened on the mountain, they are imprisoned by the Dread Gnomes, Gnomes that live on the Mountain, under the rule of a toad-like creature, Gellick. The fifth gem, the emerald, is inbedded in his brow.

4-0 out of 5 stars uummm...
I liked these books a ton. I am a big fantasy person (harry Potter, Lord of the rings, tamora pierce, etc) and i thought they were really good. one of my best friend lent them to me and i had the whole series (and deltora shadowlands) finished within, like, a week. I am in 7th grade and a big reader (at least two hours a day) and these books are great (but not as great as tamora pierce).

4-0 out of 5 stars Dread Mountain
Yes I do like this book. It is a great book for whoever likes adventure. It is confusing if you don't read them in order. It has 128 pages. This book is hard to put down. Once you start reading you can't stop.

My 9 year old grandaughter loves this series. The 1st one was on her required reading list for entering 4th grade & initially she didn't want to read it because it "looked scary". 3-0 out of 5 stars I did LOVE these books, don't get me wrong...
You guys who wrote really great reviews, don't hate me, and Emily Rodda, don't hate me either. Please don't take me wrong, I think that this Series was extrodinary,I absolutely loved them, all except this one...Okay, you guys, before you get into raging fits on me, just listen.
First of all, since Leif was Jealous of Dain admiring Jasmine, how come nothing ever happens after that with Jasmine and Lief? Sorry you guys who hate Romance in a novel (And I know what you're going to say that this book shouldn't have that because it's for kids.) But I think that a little love in a book makes it fun to read. I was hoping that maybe Leif and Jasmine would end up married, maybe with some kids of their own. Second of All: I was really hoping that Jasmine would be the heir. Why does it always have to be the boy that is the hero? Why not Jas for a change, she is awesome, perfectly capable of dealing with the shadow lord herself, even if she is a little opinionated sometimes. Then She could be Queen, and since she would fall in love with Lief, then he would get to be king anyway! I think that this would have been a better ending.
Third of All: How come everything is so surprising, and everything is changed? I think that it is cool that Doom turns out to be Jas's dad, I even cried when he was remembering her. But Why does Lief have to be the heir, and Doom instead of being Endon, turn out to be Jarred? I thought that He should've stayed Endon, then Jasmine could be the Heir.

And Remember guys, This is my personal opinion, and I'm sure that you think different, so please don't hate my reviews from now on, I'm sure you're all really nice people, and if you like this series, I think that it would be fun to be friends, I have yet to meet someone who loves thee like I do.
Anyway, I only think that This #8 is lacking, I absolutely would give the others 5 stars, all of them. But if your life is the written word, like mine, You could find that This was a bit dissappointing. Though I do envy Emily, she is an amazing writer, and I hope that you don't think that I'm crazy or stupid or I write awful reviews. I loved the other 7, really I do!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The thrilling conclusion to the Deltora Quest series.
All seven gems of the Belt of Deltora have been found. But the Belt cannot defeat the Shadow Lord if the true heir to the throne is not located, and time is running out. The servants of the Shadow Lord are searching for them. Tora, the city they believed hid the heir, is mysteriously abandoned. False clues have been planted to lead them astray, and one of the people they trust may really be a traitor. Lief's parents remain in captivity, and he fears for their lives. But the most shocking revelation of all is about to come. Everything Lief, Barda, and Jasmine have ever believed is about to be challenged. In the final battle between good and evil, between light and darkness, only one side can win. Will they triumph, or will the Shadow Lord rule Deltora forever? This final book in the Deltora Quest series is full of twists, turns, surprises, action, and more, and is everything I hoped it would be.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOKS THAT I HAVE EVER READ!!!!
These are my favorite books. Even though they are a little easy, I really enjoyed them, and i got my friends inot them also. I was a little dissappointed though when Lief and Jasmine didn't fall in love. I thought these books had really surprising twists and turns that were unpredictable. This book was clearly the best out of them all, and I've read it 4 times so far. I loved all of these books, including the shadowlands and am really excited about the Dragons of Deltora.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deltora Quest takes a turn for the awesome
It was when I was in 5th grade when I discovered Deltora Quest. It was actually one of those book order deals, where if you buy 5 books you get 1 book under 7 bucks free, or something like that, so I chose a combo pack of the last three books of the series. Maze of The Beast was good with all the original characters and creatures, but I think I felt a little bit lost. But once I started reading Valley of The Lost, everything started making sense. VoTL was great, but I never expected the final book to be so amazing. The thing I loved about Return To Del was all the unexpected plot twists. The only thing I could possibly complain about is the lack of battles (but hey, I'm battle hungry type of guy.) I was a little sad after the series ended, but luckily a year later the next 3 books came out. I enjoyed reading all 11 even more, after knowing the whole story. Even now, (...) I love these books more than Harry Potter or The Lord of The Rings. Really, I can't recommend this book enough, but make sure you read the other books first. And, unless this is the only book missing from your collection, buy the second hardcover book, which has the last four books in the first series for the price of two. If you shop around, you can even get it for about $5. Again, this is a great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Return to Del
Dear amazon.com,
I was looking for a book, when my friend, Nivek, found Deltora Quest. My favorite one book of the series is Return to Del. Lief, Barda, and Jasmine have to find the true heir of Deltora so the Shadow Lord will be banished from Deltora. The catch is that they have to find the heir before the Shadow Lord kills the heir. Will Kree, Jasmine's raven companion, give them away? Will the heroes find the heir to save Deltora? Find out by reading the series! The two #1 fans Yrhcaz & Nivek ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Forest of Silence
May I just start off by saying that th Forest of Silence is a winner for both sexes and all ages! This book is the beginning of a famous fantasy series. If you want to become a fan of fantasy, this is a book to start with. This captivating book centres around a group of travelling people trying to save the world from the grip of the feared Shadowlord who is terrorising the world. Even though it is not such a hard or serious read, you will instantly be reminded of Sauron and the Lord of the Rings. The suffering world has one last hope... the gems of the belt, which is in possession of Lief, the main character. So as you can imagine, while Lief travels the world in this series, he must uncover the gems to stand a chance against the Shadowlord! Then he has to face the Shadowlands...
If you've never considered reading as a fun thing, or are in desperate need of an easy novel with the thrilling contents of a normal-sized novel, or really need an introduction to novels, or love dark, exciting fantasy books...The Deltora Quest series will enthrall you, I promise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rodda Rulz
This book is really good. I admitt it is a little childish, how everything goes according to plan, and everything always works out. But this book is great for young fantasy readers. Half this book is spent in the past and half in the present. In the beginning it tells of the old kingdom and its rulers. Then it skips to the present where Leif, a young boy, has to go out and risk his life to save his country. Leif must collect the magic jewels of the Belt of Deltora to save his land from the Shadowlord. Leif, and his companions Barda and Jasmine, go after the jewel located in the Forests of Silence. They must face the knight that guards the jewel. But how can they succeed when the knight is pratically psychic and telepathic? Read the series, they're a great set of books!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Forests Of Silence
This is the first book of the Deltora series. Lief, Barda, and Jasmine must find the seven lost gems to the magic belt of Deltora. But to get them they must go to the most horrifying places throuout Deltora, One of them..... The Forests Of Silence. in this book you will find riddles, excitement, and bravery can Lief, Barda and Jasmine survive The Forests Of Silence?

5-0 out of 5 stars The Quest Begins
The Forests of Silence is the first book of the much loved deltora quest series- a story of magic, monstes and mindbenders. The basic plot of the story is that the great belt of deltora- the lands magical defense- is destroyed. Lief, a young boy of 17 must travel throughout the land of deltora, seeking the great jems of the belt, and thus restore the belt.
The first jem,the golden topaz, is hidden in one of the three Forests of Silence. These forests are inhabited by all maner of deadly beasts, and guarded by the most powerful of the them all, is the prise they seek.
Forests of silence is a good book, riddled with pictures, puzzles, magic and monsters. Emily roddar is espicially vivid with her descriptions, and the story is very imaginative. But the thing i like most in this story are the puzzles and pictiures littered throughout the storey.
Something else that deserves a look in is the wonderful front cover. Absolutely superb, to say the least.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deltora Shadowlands - A Great Book Series
I first started reading this series about a year ago. I read the first book in the first series then I read this book. I got complely lost. Then I started reading the books in order and I started to learn more about the characters. You should read the books in order before you read this book. Then you will know what's happening.

After Lief, Barda, and Jasmine restore the gems from the Belt of Deltora, the Shadow Lord takes thosands of Deltorans hostage and Lief, Barda, and Jasmine must save them.

I liked this book because I like the characters and monsters. You will like this book too if you like books with adventure, action, and puzzles. It is fun to try to figure out what the answer to the puzzle before they tell you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I loved the Delotra quest series and this was a great follow up. I really enjoyed it, but there were alot of suprises. Glock for one instead of being the old violent frightening villian, he changed alot at the begining he was the same but after he left with Jasmine he evolved in to a much better and more important charecter, I never thought I'd be sad if he died but I really was. I was also disapointed in Leif how can he even think about marrying a Toran girl he's never met before when Jasmine obdiviously loves him? Yeah there's tradition but sometimes there are things more important than tradition. But all said and done it was a great book and I'm really looking forward to reading the others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deltora Shadowlands:The Cavern of Fear: A wonderful thriller
My best friend introduced me to Deltora Quest a few months ago. Quickly attracted by the book I bought the rest of the Quest series the next day. I now read the books over and over. I heard of the new Deltora Shadowlands trilogy, and went to find out more.
A few questions came into my mind.
1.Is this just a cheap copy of the Quest series?
2.Is it going to be as action-packed and wit-burning as Quest?
3.Is the book going to have new or same characters?
I wanted to find out. But, not having access to interviews and technology, I bought and read the book. Two words. WOW!
I loved the book. It flowed and still had the same characters. It had new beasts and new challenges. And was definitely not a cheap copy. And it WAS action-packed. I mean, sword-flying, fists-swinging action. And yet, there was a sense of plan, and wits.
Many side characters were also interesting. Like Glock. Who was a strong warrior and just as stubborn to the end. And Jinks, the plump, stupid man who cares only for himself. And the Goblins. They were very good side characters. Their song still rings through my ears.
Above our land the tumult rages
Struggle echoes throught the ages
There the strife may never cease
But here below we dwell in peace
Where timeless tides swamp memory
Our sunless prison makes us free
The gem-glow lights our rocky walls
And dragons guard our shining halls.
Wonderful. And still the same old loved characters from before. Lief, the new king who is pressured to be safe and silent yet, he is still the reckless adventurer he always was. Barda, the big man who's brain was just as stong as his arms (and my favorite character). Jasmine, the witty, wise-cracking, quick jungle girl. Kree, the loyal raven. And Filli, the small gray fluff always on Jasmine's shoulder.
So, I guess I'm saying that the book is wonderful. I loved it and I hope you do too. It had many funny, exciting, and dangerous parts, and I loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Excellence Continues
The Shadowlands series picks up where the Deltora Quest series left off. The same characters experience more adventure, excitement and danger as they are faced with another quest of good vs. evil. I really enjoyed the first series and am thrilled to see that Emily Rodda continued the captivating storyline.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new trilogy to enjoy for Deltora Quest fans
Deltora may now be free of the Shadowlord, but there are thousands of their people trapped in the Shadowlands. The people left in Deltora are demanding a rescue mission, but King Lief knows that it is a suicide mission. The only hope of success lies in the magic of the Pirran Pipe - but the Pipe is long forgotten and is believed to be myth. Lief and his companions must face many new dangers and challenges if they are to free the lost people from the Shadowlands - but the Shadowlords has plans to stop them from succeeding.....

This first book in the new Deltora Shadowlands trilogy was excellent and had to be read in one sitting. Sometimes a second series is a bit boring because it's the same idea in a different place - that doesn't happen with this book! You have Lief and Jasmine from the other Deltora books, but there are other characters to meet too.

Like the first series, this series will appeal to boys and girls of all ages - including their parents. If you like magic, adventure, and danger then you will enjoy these books. It is best if you have read the Deltora Quest series first though - it will help explain the first part of this book. ... Read more

The Lake of Tears
Rewiew

The book Delora Quest The Lake of Tears was great. It is the second instalment from the seven very descriptive, interesting, adventureous, and action packed books that Emily Rodda has written. The book is about Leif, Barda and Jasmine and their very important mission to find the jewels scattered and stolen from the Belt of Deltora. In this book they look for the Ruby, which takes them through The Lake of Tears where dangerous monsters are as common as mice are, one of the monsters is the extreamly hideous Soldeen, it is a fish that can move out of water and also in water. I thought that the book was overall good it had the right amount of action great adventure it also had some puzzles that you could solve with the characters. Her descriptions make the characters, monsters, and lands come to life to the smallest detail, from shapes and sizes to color and texture.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Journey Continues
The three continued to the dangerous Lake of Tears, in the land ruled by the evil sorceress Thaegan. They need to get through her territory and to the Lake of Tears. On their way, they discover a troop of Grey Guards with a prisoner; a tiny Ralad builder named Manus. They rescue him, and move off the road to avoid capture by the angry Grey Guards. Then they see a broken sign: Ring and Enter. They see a nice cottage, and a bell. They oblige, and run to the cottage. But instead of a nice, flat lawn, is quicksand. The two inhabitants, Nij and Doj, pull them out and treat them well. But they do not speak English. Instead, they say things like "Noos taem hserf!" Which later, they discover is "Fresh meat soon!" and their names are Jin and Jod - Two of Thaegan's evil children. Can they make it to the Lake of Tears? They do, and find a beast, Soldeen. They have to get the gem from Soldeen, and when Kree, Jasmine's crow, kills Thaegan by trying to protect Jasmine, all of her evil work comes undone, including the trasfomation of the city D'Or.

5-0 out of 5 stars the deltora classic
This book is the conclusion to the Deltora Shadowlands series, which is the follow-up to the Deltora Quest series, and it most definetly won't dissapoint any Deltora fans, or any fantasy fans who are interested, although you should read all the Deltora's (both the Quest and the rest of the Shadowlands series) before starting this one, as you need to know all the information that they contain if you want to keep up. It starts off as Lief, Barda, and Jasmine leave the island of Auron to proceed to their last stop, the island of Keras. The Kerans, suprisingly, turn out to be the easiest of all of the three groups to get the pipe from, as they agree to lend the three heoros the third part of the mystical Pirran Pipe, agreeing to lend them it in exange for an item, which, to the shock of his companions, Lief seems eager to give. Why is Lief so willing to give the Kerans such a important magical item? The answer could go deeper than you might think. Finally, the three companions proceed to the shadowlands, but with an extra person along the way, who will, for obious reasons, play a huge role in this conclution. As the last hope for the imprisoned Deltorans proceed through the strange, dangerous Shadowlands, many secrects are revealed regarding Lief, Jasmine, Marilen, and Faith. Just like in Deltora Quest, all the clues which seem to point to nothing, add up to the final secret that very few know, and, also like Deltora Quest, you'll be doing two things after reading this book: Kicking yourself and begging for more, as everything from all the Deltora's add up to an amazing ending. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Second Piece to the Puzzle
I greatly enjoyed this book and reccomend it to all. In this book, Lief, Barda, And Jasmine continue their underground route to the Shadowlands, They've been told what to expect but are still not sure, until they find what they're looking for, or at least that's what they thought......

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovering the second piece of the Pirran Pipe
In this book, Lief, Barda, and Jasmine face even more dangers and make more frineds. The first tribe said that this tribe would most likely murder them on site, and bred evil monsters in the sea. None of this is true. While they discover the truth about the island, they are in grave danger. I very much enjoyed this book, and very much recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars so-so
This book is not top quility i agree but it is good and if you read the series that comes before it the characters and plot make more sense. I also agree that Tamora Pierce is waaaaaaaay better than Emily Rodda but she is worth it. I wouldn't buy this book but it is worth borrowing from the library.

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay...
This book is not a good book. As I am the first person to review this, feel free to criticise my comments to death. Emily Rodda does not get you involved in the plot or the characters, and it is unnesiserily bloody. As for the plot, come on! Tamora Pierce's books are soooooooo much better in all aspects. I felt as if I was watching a really bad action movie with violence everywhere when I read this book.

I would not reccomend this book at all if you like quality things. I was really sorry that I wasted my money on this. ... Read more
