4-0 out of 5 stars Great diary for adolescents
3/6/04 A young kin(who happens to be a girl) was given this book . The book brings out the creativity in children (more so since it is patterned like a diary and they do not have to worry about correct spelling .The sample by the character before the reader does similar is also done well(e.g.:the last chapter "Time To Say Goodbye"" Asks the reader to 1. rate journal experience 2. tell how it feels to be a real live author 3.sign the book and give a sign off message). It has no lock & key on and to the book so it did not put her in the position of hiding it somewhere as "confidential" where she wouldn't pick it up again to proceed nor did it put her under pressure to have to finish it (she's had it since last year's holidays and picks it up to work on when she feels like it....the author puts her character(Junie B. Jones) in 1st grade ,however the language and style of the book definitely would appeal more to adolescents of 3rd grade to about 5th or 6th grade .

4-0 out of 5 stars it was fun making friend with Junie b.
I loved this journal. I had fun writing in it. And it was very fun to here what Junie B. had to say.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to make writing fun!
I just got this for my 8 1/2 year old niece. She already loves Junie B. so I knew this book would be a hit. I think it probably works best for girls, but if you know a boy who loves Junie B., he'll like it. If she (or he) doesn't already know who Junie B. is, it's probably best to read a few of books before getting this diary.

My niece loves reading, but writing is still a struggle for her. With this book she's having fun writing, instead of it being a chore. She has done about half the book in just three days. She loves that it's her own personal book and that no one else can look at it (although we are sometimes allowed a peek). I've promised that when she finishes this, we can go and buy another diary, with a lock and everything.

I think this is a great introduction to creative writing. There's enough structure so that the process isn't intimidating. The book's format shows that there's a lot of freedom in writing your own diary. You can draw, make lists, and there's even a few times where Junie B. changes the writing suggestion to something she wants to write about.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is so creative!!
    AWESOME!!!!!
I think this book is soo awesome because it lets you put what you think and you can make stories. It is sooo creative cause you can draw and it is fun to see what Junie B. said. I think all girls and i guess boys too should get this book and it is a great way for parents to relax while your kids read and write and draw.

5-0 out of 5 stars why I love this journal.
okay I love this journal because I love to write! also I enjoyed reading what junie B. wrote!Okay bye! cause I HATE to type!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Chicken Soup Book Warmed my Soul!
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: Journal, was one of the most moving books I have read. It's directed towards adolescents, and deals with issues every adolescent girl faces. It's a blend of stories, quotes, poems, and spaces to write your thoughts. This book has many different sections such as: family, love and kindness, learning lessons, and though stuff. My favorite section, however, is "loving yourself". This book gave me a chance to deal with issues and see that I'm not the only girl whom faces such issues. Chicken Soup is a book that I am able to pick up at any time if I need some inspiration on a situation, or some reassurance. Other issues helpful to me were on drinking, self-esteem, eating disorders, and how to deal with my past. The best part about this book is that a lot of it is compiled with texts written by teenage authors. There are spaces for friends to write about you, and spaces for you to express how you feel about certain things. Chicken Soup allowed me to realize I was not the only girl who had experienced some of the feelings that I did. After reading this book I knew I wasn't alone! I do highly reccomend this book to any teenage girl. Adolescence is a hard time to get through, and many girls need inspiration. You do not have to read the book cover to cover; you can pick it up any time and read whatever section you desire.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book!
my mom bought me this a few christmas's ago. I wasnt really a diary type person so I figured I wouldnt like it. But one day when I was bored, I opened it up and looked and realized what I had been missing. this is definitly a great book for teenagers. Its not just a blank journal, it gives you lots of interesting ideas to write about and asks questions that make you think. I love writing in it if I'm bored. And it's big so it wont get used up fast. Also, even though there are sections, you dont have to do each one in order, you can just skip around if you want. the sections are similar to the ones in the chicken soup for the teenage soul books. and for some of the questions, they give alot of space to just write whatever you want. I especially liked the section where your friends, boyfriend, etc. could write to you and the part where you can put your pictures. I highly recommend this journal! its great! I hope they come out with a second one

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing
This book did absolutly nothing for me. Just a boring thing to write in, which I haven't.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Journal Of Self Discovery
The book is beautifully done. However, I was sort of disappointed because of the lack of information. There are a lot of things for me to fill out but not enough stuff for me to read. However, it IS a journal but I wish it was more detailed about what it wanted me to write and such. There are some things in here you can fill in once and if you want to fill it in again, you have to erase which is sometimes a pain.

I think this book is for younger girls. If you want a mature book with a lot of good information, I would suggest The Care and Keeping of You.

Although I'm disappointed, I definitely don't regret buying it but you should have the companion book (The Care of and Keeping of You: The Body Book For Girls) first before getting the journal.

    Have fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY HELPFUL!!
This book was really great! It gave important imformation about "girl" things, and I really learned a lot about growing up, changes, and just my body. It explains how to stay healthy and clean. I enjoyed reading this book a lot! It's a good idea to look in it with your mother because you can understnad it more. This book probally should be for kids ages 11 and up!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Family Time
I received this book as a gift from a teacher girlfriend. At first I was overwhelmed-it's a big book. My friend told me to trust her, pick a page (any page), gather my kids and start. I am glad I did.

I started with an interview titled "All the Senses". As an introduction, my 5 and 7 year olds and I talked about what our senses were. Then I interviewed them, writing down both of their answers to questions about their favorites smells, sounds, sensations, sights...in the same book. The kids liked having this "talking time" with me. After a few minutes, my husband, overhearing us, stopped doing the dishes and joined us so he could listen too.

In our family, the temptation is to just get things done in the evening. This book helps my husband and me spend just 10 or 20 precious minutes really talking and communicating with the kids. It's easy. It's fun and together we're creating a keepsake treasure. I recommend it to parents everywhere.

This book is terrific to use for promoting journal writing in children. What I like the most about this book is the informative way it teachs and jumpstarts writing. 1-0 out of 5 stars Defective Product
The design and size of the book is very nice. However, if you decide to buy this book, or have already bought the book, then make sure that you count the amount of pockets that are included inside of the book. The back cover of the book claims that there are 13 pockets included for Kindergarten to High School Graduation. The book that I received for my daughter only has 12 pockets. Therefore, it only allows enough pockets for Kindergarten through grade 11. I am very disappointed that I cannot use the book because of this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...inside pages very dull & exposed spiral
I purchased this book for my younger daughter hoping it would be as nice as the one we hae for her sister. I am disappointed. the inside pages are DULL- they are made to look like loose leaf paper, which might have been a neat idea for a page or two, but the whole book is produced like this. It does have a place to put interesting facts, but they are the same for every year- which can be dull if the child maintains the same circle of friends and activities. The spiral is also exposed- which cheapens the look of the book. It seems to be the best I can currently locate as the one I have for my older daughter, now 8 doesnt seem to be available anywhere. Hers is much more attractive- different colors on the pages inside & the entries differ slightly from year to year- it is also spiral bound, but the spiral is covered with the same mate3rial as the front cover- like a photo album so it looks nicer. I couldnt find any others that ranged from k-12 so it seems like the best I can do- but it is very disappointing- her siter's book was the same price and is so so so much nicer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pocket Full of Memories
This memory book is great. It has two pages for each year and a lot of neat things to fill in. The only downfall is that the cover is yellow and pink. I ordered it for my two sons and I don't think it's appropriate for boys.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has a place for everything.
I love the large deep pockets in this book. This is really a great book to hold all of my sons school keepsakes. These ladies did'nt leave anything out. I think this book would make a really good holiday gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, practical way to store school years memories
Of all the school memory books I have seen this one is the best organized and practical. The 8.5 X 11 inch format and large pockets allow for storage of class and individual pictures, report cards ect. There are sections for the child to report on his/her activities, likes, dislikes and aspirations at each grade level. No more looking through all those boxes and drawers for the third grade class picture or the 8th grade report card. Everything is filed by grade level. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Journals made fun
This book is a great help in journaling for self-discovery. The exercises are easy but can lead to some really interesting insights. I really love how writing and drawing are mixed, and looking back at my drawings is really interesting. A few small complaints: the examples in here would look much better in full color instead of bad grayscale copies with a page layout that looks like something I would do for a school project; and the cost of this book, plus the sketchbook you'll need to get started, plus a good set of markers, is a tad expensive for people still dependent on allowance money. If you've got the cash, however, this is a fun way for a teen to develop her sense of identity and work through all the nasty issues teens face. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE JOURNAL SUPERSTAR STRIES AGAIN!
    THE JOURNAL SUPERSTAR STRIES AGAIN!

ALL ABOUT ME: A KEEPSAKE JOURNAL FOR KIDS

Reviewed by Dr. Jerry Flack, Professor Emeritus, University of Colorado and children's literature consultant, Denver, CO.

A personal anecdote: A friend who owns a bookstore especially geared to youths told me in 1996 that ALL ABOUT ME: A KEEPSAKE JOURNAL FOR KIDS (Northland Publishing) by Linda Kranz was very attractive but would never sell well. She liked the journal but did not believe there was a market for it. A month or two later I asked the same bookstore owner how the journal was selling and her enthusiastic response was that she could not keep enough copies on the shelves to meet the incredible demand. Parents, grandparents, and kids themselves had discovered a perfect catalyst and inspiration for not only thinking about their lives but for writing down these same thoughts plus creative new ideas. Since that auspicious beginning, Linda Kranz has gone on to create at least seven journals for teens, fathers and mothers, a sequel to ALL ABOUT ME, a pregnancy journal, and a brand new nature journal. Now, she has completely revised her initial journal for young writers that is chock-a-block full of new images and ideas - what Kranz calls "thought-starters" -- and once again the journal is made extremely visually appealing by the inclusion of art work from some of the very finest Northland/Rising Moon picture books. The full-spread illustrations are luminous and make the journal beautiful to look at as well as delightful to write in. A great many additional pages contain lively and inviting cartoon illustrations.

Kranz has added a significant number of new prompts or "thought starters" to make this revised version of ALL ABOUT ME: A KEEPSAKE JOURNAL FOR KIDS (Rising Moon, 2004) virtually a brand new edition of the original book. Young writers are asked to think about the best books they have ever read, recall special family stories and memories, describe their homes or apartments, design an ideal school-day schedule, and note their dreams and aspirations. In fascinating prompts students ask their parents to recall their own favorite times as children and what they did for fun. In an especially intriguing experiment, students are encouraged to describe their parents at two six-month intervals. Once again, the gorgeous reproduction of full-color art from Rising Moon picture books greatly adds to the whole of this successful journal project. Such artists as Jeanne Arnold, Libba Tracy, Mike Gordon, Jim Harris, and Redwing T. Nez have created beautiful illustrations.

One of the healthiest things people anywhere can do - regardless of age -- is to reflect upon the course of their lives. It is fine to begin the process at 30, 40, or 65 years of age, but it is even more significant and helpful for people to begin the life-long habit of journaling when they are young. Parents and others who desire to give children a gift that will last for a lifetime should very definitely consider ALL ABOUT ME: A KEEPSAKE JOURNAL FOR KIDS as a wonderful starting point. It is magical gift that grows in proportion to its use. It is truly a gift that gives in return. This review pertains to the brand new 2004 edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive first journal for children. Perfect!
All About Me, A Keepsake Journal for Kids is a gem. Author, Linda Kranz, has a special insight into what children are thinking and feeling and she invites them to write it down in this child's first journal. Ms. Kranz uses "thought-starters" such as "Name something you have done that makes you proud" and "If someone gave you a million dollars, what would you do with it?" "How does your answer change when you think about it a little longer?" This is the perfect journal for both girls and boys and an inviting way to encourage them to begin writing down their thoughts and feelings with their own words.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best journal available you can give to a child !
All About Me was created by long time journaler, Linda Kranz, for young people who want to begin their journey into self exploration. Delightfully illustrated and written with "thought-starters" such as "Everyone has a favorite place, what is yours?" "What is it like, and what do you like to do there?" or "What do you like to daydream about?" Linda has her hands on the hearts and minds of young people and this keepsake journal will keep your journaler wanting to go back to it time and time again. The ideal journal for both girls and boys ages 7-10.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes fun to write in, but not exactly a great journal..
I give this item 3 stars, 1 for being interesting, 1 for being kinda fun, and 1 for entertaining. But it doesn't really make me desperate to write in it all the time.

"All About Me: A Keepsake Journal for Kids" is a good way for kids to express their feelings without feeling uncomfortable by telling them to someone who might laugh or think it's stupid. But some of the ideas for kids to write about are kind of silly, things that kids don't really get excited when they write about them, if you catch my drift. I really can't say this is a good or bad gift, but maybe check out some other journals before deciding on this one.

Here are some fun and interesting topics in this book: Do you have a hobby? Do you have a favorite place? Where is it? What have you learned about being a friend? Who can you trust with your secrets?

Here are some silly and boring topics: What do you like to eat? How did your parents react when you brought home your report card? How do you keep busy on long car trips?

    Thanx for reading!
