Wonderful Illustrations Reinforce French Vocabulary
My 5-year old daughter is fascinated with French and has pored over this book since receiving it for Christmas. Her French teacher thought it was one of the best she'd seen so we're donating a copy to the school as well. The bright, active illustrations are of animals playing sports, eating a meal at home, and other activities children can easily relate to. Good Gaelic Resource for Children and new Gaelic Learners
I reviewed this book in my Gaelic Study group and thought it was excellent. Very basic and easy to grasp. I just got home and couldnt get on line fast enough to put in my order! The Biographical Dictionary of African-americans is about African americans that became famous celebrities off of their hard work and achieved success. This book talks about great successors like Michael Jackson, Oprhrah Winfrey, O. J. Simpson, Malcolm, Martin Luther King JR. etc...Our great achievers aren't always white, there are also African Americans who kept going till they reached their dreams. The achiever in this book I think has a strong character is Martin Luther King JR. He is 5'11'', brown eyes, brown skin, black hair 160pounds, and has plump cheeks. He is non-violent because when he was doing marches all over the south, white people threw rocks at him and he kept going like nothing was wrong. He is faithful because he started to try to get to get equal rights for black people and didn't'[stop till he got it. The government ruled that blacks could sit wherever they wanted on the bus.I would rate this book 1-5 with 5 being the highest I rate it a 5. I rated this book 5 stars, because this book gives me a clear understanding on great African Americans. Some of my favorite heroes were written about inside of this book to show me the way of a true man. The book basically tells you about all blacksucceeding celeberties.

So little for so much
High quality paper and colorful drawings distract from the fact that this overpriced book is little more than a list of a mere 2000 words and phrases. They're presented by subject matter but seldom in the context of a sentence. Perhaps more valuable than the "dictionary" itself are the grammar hints at the end of book. Catering to people whose favorite subject in school may not be (have been) grammar in any language, the author's explanations are simple and clear. She says, " . . . you need to learn a little about grammar, that is, how you put words together and make sentences." Anyone who is serious about learning Spanish would better spend their dollars on real books.

Should also have Spanish-English translations...
I think that this book is a good one. The words are grouped into sections based on situations in which you will use the words. It's very convenient, and the illustrations on each page are memorable.It also provides hints on grammar at the end of the book. The problem is that there are no spanish-english translations. I was recommended this book before a 7-week stay in Mexico, and I will admit that I was forced to buy a real dictionary (the Oxford Compact Dictionary) after a few weeks in order to complete most of my literature homework, because the words I needed simply weren't available, or were too hard to find in this book. I would recommend this for a newer student to Spanish, as its illustrations and groupings make it easy to remember simple, oft-used words. But for any type of trip, or if you are going to be translating anything, I would recommend going with a traditional dictionary.

Another great book from Usborne!
This book is great! The funny illustrations, basic grammar and pronunciation explanations and the word choices make it a fabulous learning tool for people of all ages! The French version of this book helped to instill in me a great interest in foreign languages, and I must say this version is no different! I am in Spanish classes in high school, and this book really helps me with my vocabulary and my understanding of the language. Foreign language can be fun with the Usborne Language Books!
