5-0 out of 5 stars New Vision for " The Lion King."
As a published and award winning author, I take my hat off to this wonderful woman who has taken such a great film and adapted it so well for children.
However, there is a problem with this singular novelization.
Its short length does present a problem.
The Lion King is an epic film, and needs to be novelized in an epic novel, not some childrens storybook.
What I mean by novelized, is that the story is written down, expanded, and shown in the light that it was originally meant to be. A short childrens "novel" wont cut it unfortunately.
What needs to be done, is a full-length novel needs to be written, along the lines of say the length of Carrie or something of that nature. This would allow the author to expand the universe of the Lion King, explore subplots and motives, really flesh out the characters and have some fun with creating the history of some of our most cherished characters as well as new scenes, locales, and events, making it appeal not only to children, but to the adult and senior audiences as well.
Luckily, this is already in progress. I happen to be working on a manuscript for this novel, and it will be finished sometime in 2006-07. Hopefully, it will restore what the Lion King has lost ( or could not put into a childrens movie or book due to violence, and motivation) and reclaim this epic for a new literary age.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is SOOOOOOO Awesome!
This book is great. When the Lion King came out, I loved it, so I got this book for Christmas. I had my mom read it over and over and when she couldn't, I'd read it myself! This is a terrific book so if you loved the movie, don't miss out on this beautiful adaptation ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Just o.k.
I bought this book with the hope that it could replace the videotape that my four-year old son is wearing out.He likes for me to read this book to him but he always stops me so he can fill in the gaps in this adaptation. He was especially touched by the scene in the movie where Buzz fails to fly and realizes he is a toy, but this scene is omitted from the book, so we always have to recreate it, which can be fun.Still, he was disappointed not to see it in the book and always, I mean always, asks why it was not included. The illustrations are very good; they appear to be straight from the movie but, overall, this book doesn't capture the spirit of the movie. It is a good option for travelling if you don't want to bring the video or dvd and you can act out the omitted scenes with your child.

I would say that it has bright and lovely pictures that you would love!Buy this book for your children!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grains of Rice
Just like one girl could make the difference to China's future, some little details made this book excellent. Since I used paints to re-create the characters, the color palattes were great to help me mix the right colors. But the single distinguishing feature that made this "how to draw" book better than the others I've used were the little notations scattered on everypage that highlighted the keys to each characters. My Mushu was ready to jump off the page and fight the Huns!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was a totally STELLIAR (cool)!
This book was truly amazing...but instead of giving directions on how to draw the character...it gives you pictures on each step on the character...it also gives you advice when you draw a certian part of the character...so instead of a classic 1 2 3 step book...you actully learn how to draw the characters...this nothing like I've seen before...It may seem hard, but it really isn't...when I was done...my drawing really looked like Mulan. I reccomeng this book if you love Mulan and want to have fun drawing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
How to Draw Disney's Mulan was a fun look into the art of animation. Foster gives a detailed lokk at both the story and drawing techniques. Very enjoyable

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This book is a wonderful how-to book for drawers. It shows how they made the characters from simple shapes and goes into detail about costumes and more. I aspire to become a Disney animator someday and this book helped improve my drawing techniques. It is surely worth your buying, be you a kid or an adult. -S.K.S.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful how-to!!!
Wow!!! I was amazed by the quality of the drawings I made from this book. I'm 13, and Mulan is my favorite movie. I tried drawing the characters from memory, but I'm not much of an artist, and they turned out badly. Then I ordered this book (from Amazon.com, I might add) and suddenly the cast started leaping out of my pencil! A great how-to with two pages devoted to each of the main characters, this book has pencil sketches and full-color illustrations to help you along. It is even crammed with hints from the animators! How to Draw Disney's Mulan can guide even the most amateurish artist from choosing the right materials to painting the background, with wonderful results. 4-0 out of 5 stars 101 way to bug your parents
Steve Wyatt (formally known as Sneeze) is a fifth grade boy who loves to make inventions! He, his best friend Hiccup and family are going on a summer vacation or so he thinks. It starts when his say they can't go on a vacation due to a money shortage. Worst of all his parents sign him up for summer school! And his dreams to go to the invention contention are ruined, and his big plans for the Nice Alarm are over! After that he starts to make a list on how to bug your parents. On the first day of summer school he stop by the hard ware store to ask reign (his friend) a bout his problem and Regan tells Sneeze that he can take him on one condition if he pays him the money for the expenses. Sneeze makes the deal but is lost on how to make the money. He wrote down some more way to bug his parents. In class Goldie the nosiest girl at school sees his list, Sneeze tells her that he has 101 more at home, that's when he gets the idea of how to make money to go to the invention convention. This book is dramatic funny and realistic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid Tested, Mother NOT approved!
Steve may fail summer school, people think his parents should be arrested, his teacher may be fired, and the whole grade is mad at him.

And all he did was complete his project for summer school!

Steve needed money to go to the INVENTION CONVENTION (Boy, did he WANT to go!) He loved to make inventions. He was assigned a project in summer school. It was to write a book. First he was going to write a biography about his favorite inventor. Then his friend HICCUP, the hypochondriac, said "Why not write a book you can SELL to get money for the INVENTION CONVENTION?" So, they thought of a title that the students would want to buy. When they start to write and sell the book, all the funny things start to happen.

This book has a lot fun situations and many funny characters. You get to know the different characters and you will like them. There are some jokes, too! And, of course, you will like the list at the end of the book called "101 WAYS TO BUG YOUR PARENTS."

So, what happened to Steve? Did he actually get to the INVENTION CONVENTION? You will have to read this very funny book to find out.

*****Mommy's note: With the very clever characterizations, and the one-line humor, even parents who like to "preview" their children's literature for appropriateness will enjoy this one! In the guise of a madcap situation, and a child-centered story, the main characters learn about responsibility, compassion, and friendship.

5-0 out of 5 stars 101 Ways to Bug Your Teacher
The long-awaited sequel to 101 Ways to Bug Your Parents will be published in summer of 2004 by Dial/Penguin. Title: 101 Ways to Bug Your Teacher. All your old friends will be back - - Sneeze, Hayley, Hiccup, Ace - - in another wacky story. -Lee Wardlaw, author

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
A Very Good Book! I loved the story behind it! The list was super funny! LOL! I am eleven years old and I would recommend it to any one around my age!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy to say, my children didn't torture me...
The kids liked this book, so I read it myself. And boy, was it was fun!

Although the title gives the impression that this is the kind of book a parent ought to pass up, it is really very well done.

Of course, it includes the list of 101 ways to bug your parents - which was the theme of Sneeze's own story in the book. But can you blame him? After all, his summer vacation WAS ruined!

But while Sneeze misses out on his summer plans, he gains a great deal in wisdom. A lot of important things are touched on in this book - what it might feel like to lose one's parent, a growing awareness of financial problems that adults often face, what's truly important in a friend, and even a hint of budding romance.

It's all in there! And it puts everything into perspective for Sneeze. I think most kids could learn something from this story.

I am impressed by this book and will look for other titles by thia author for my kids to read.

Well done! ... Read more

I'll give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's made a bit soulless, I'd have expected more heart and soul to a booklet like that but I guess that's not possible in a huge company. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My lovest book
I like all the characters in this story but the dearest one is Bambi. When I was little, I asked my mom many times to read the story. Then when I grew up I read it by myself. But I liked it very much because the story is about a baby deer. It's very funny when Thumper thumped. The moment when Bambi met Faline was so touching! When Bambi and Faline were grown up it was their turn to have babies. I warmly recommend the other kids to read this sensitive book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book shows anyone all aspects of things that kids can know with out knowing too much that sad things happen all the time and people are brought up to be protected from that now we must let them know

5-0 out of 5 stars "Senseless Acts of Violence"? Please!
In response to the person who wrote the review titled, "Senseless Acts of Violence Against Deer Provoke Anger", you are crazy. Yes, there is some violence that the youngest of children should not see. However, even my 3 year old was able to grasp that bad things happen, and that we must learn to move on. The story of Bambi is a true to life story, and is not some exploiting of 'poor, innocent' animals at all. There are also lessons to be learned about 'Hunter-oriented values' - which are not necissarily evil. Some people hunt to eat, and to live. When hunting is done in the right spirit, and not simply for sport, it can be a very good thing. I was able to teach my daughter all of this, and she is better for it, because of it.

I WOULD ENCOURGE EVERY PARENT TO BUY THE BOOK AND READ IT TO THE ONES THAT CANNT READ AND LET THE ONES THAT CAN READ IT FOR THEMSELFS. I'M VEERY PLEASED TO SEE THIS BOOK HERE AT AMAZON.COM. I RATE THIS BOOK WITH 5 + STARS. BELIVE ME LIFE WASNT THE SAME AFTER THE BOOK WAS GIVEN BACK TO MY FREIND, TILL I WENT TO GET MY DAUGHTER HER VERY OWN... NINA

1-0 out of 5 stars Senseless Acts of Violence Against Deer Provoke Anger.
I was appalled at the horrific and cruel death of the mother deer in Bambi. I find it in poor taste to exploit poor, innocent, animals in this way. It is a disgrace to show these Hunter-oriented values to young children. People wonder why children think it's alright to be violent with classmates and friends. Well, I blame Walt Disney himself. It is no coincidence that all of his movies contain senseless acts of violence. It is the Disney corporation's plan to corrupt the minds of America's young people. I, for one, will not stand for it! ... Read more
