Book Description

Somewhere in the distance, behind him, Marc heard a hound baying. He hesitated, breathing hard, wiping the sweat off his forehead with the back of his hand, straining to hear better. The hound bayed again, a lonely, fearsome sound.

Marc Solie is on the run. He has been for what seems like forever, though it's been less than two years since his little sister died and his family fell apart, since he started running from his pain and despair and pure, desperate loneliness.

This time it's different. Marc's not just running from himself this time; he's running from the cops. Marc's done something bad. He's not sure how bad -- maybe as bad as murder.

Marc's only chance is to get to his father. His father will know what to do, how to get him out of this mess. But Marc hasn't seen or talked to his father for months, and he's not really sure where he is. So Marc keeps running -- following Interstate 5 north from northern California to Washington, hoping to find him.

With only a runt dog named Rat for companionship, Marc has time to reflect on the last two years and come to grips with how his life has changed. For the first time, Marc begins to see how he's responsible for his own actions, and despite any wrongdoings to him, ultimately he's accountable for his life. As Marc sees this truth, he's finally able to stop running and face up to what he's done.

Blood on His Hands is a gripping, taut novel about one boy's journey to manhood. ... Read more

She is seeking “inner harmony,” and doesn’t seem to notice that the family is falling apart. As for Sophie’s older sister, her anger adds drama, but doesn’t help. Only her classmate Ted seems a solid, reasonable, and even good-looking person in the midst of the mess around her. How do you fast forward to the final episode–and can it possibly end happily ever after? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!
I have literally read every book Caroline B. Cooney has written and for some reason I put off reading this book. I am not the soap opera type and thought there was no way I would like the book. Boy was I wrong! I finally decided to read it and fell in love with this book! It is really an amazing story. The emotion throughout the whole story is so intense you feel like your in the book! The characters give off a quality that you are still laughing and thinking about weeks later. I found myself taking quotes from the book and using them in conversations. I told every one of my friends to read it and loaned it to everyone I know. This is a really great book!

3-0 out of 5 stars book report for miss.o
Tune In Anytime was about a 16 year old girl, Sophie who is going through a really hard time in her life. Her dad is getting remarried to her sisters college roommate, Persia. Sophie's mother could care less about the situation. But Sophie and her sister conpletely agrees with her but the two have different thoughts of how to deal with the situation. Basically Tune in anytime is about a family who is seperating, and about the girl who just wants to fix it all her way.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK
I thought that the book Tune in Anytime was ok. Some of the good things about it were that the book was filled with emotion. I loved how Sophie and Marley would overreact because that's how normal people would respond with everything that was going on. It made it funny because everyone else in the book was completely calm. I also like how before each chapter Sophie would compare her life to a soap opera. I didn't like how the characters said the same things over and over. The book went really slow, even though it had a great plotline, it got boring a lot of the time. I would recommend this book, but be prepared to skip some pages because they repeat everything ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful book for all young readers
I had an extremely difficult time finding a book for a preteen reader that dealt with having a gay parent. I was delighted to finally stumble upon this one. I gave it to my partner's daughter and she loved it. It's a wonderful story which details the difficulties of a young girl living under an assumed identity in order to live with her lesbian mom and her mom's girlfriend. The three of them create a happy family but Amy struggles with hiding her true identity as well as the fact that her mom is gay. The author presents these difficult issues in a compassionate, realistic, and positive manner. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a well written book with numerous issues. The young girl lives with her Dad but runs away with her mother and her mother's female lover. They drastically change their identities to hide. The main character has to deal with divorce, homosexuality, secrets and lies, and multi-cultural issues with new friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book about accepting different lifestyles
This is ine of the first really good young adult book that I have seen dealing with split families in which one parent is not straight. It shows you a really up lose look at this girls life and the extent she is willing to go to to be with her mother ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!
I bought this book like 3 days ago and I can't put it down! I am a HUGE fan of MTV'S Newlyweds and I can see some of the same behavior in this book. I hope the author develops the book into a series because I want to read more about Jesse and Jen! If you liked the Gossip Girl series than you should definitly read the book. I am a 15 year old and this is one of the books I actualy enjoyed.

I hope my review was somewhat helpful. We all have different tastes but if you like the teen books that are new and fresh then this is definitly a MUST READ!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Going to the chapel...."
College senior, Jen, and recent college graduate, Jesse, met through the online dating site Duets. They never thought they would find true love, but they did. Now Duets has chosen them as the "Couple of the Year," and has agreed to pay for their wedding. The only catch? Jen and Jesse have to write an online diary about married life for Duets' site, that way other Duets members can keep track of the goings-on with the couple after they've said "I do." Jen and Jesse couldn't be happier, and agree immediately. After all, they love each other, and nothing will ever change that. That is, until reality sets in, and life becomes hard. Ordering food in every night of the week, assembling complicated furniture, paying the bills every month...Soon the young couple has just had enough. Throw in a herd of meddling family members, and you've got trouble.

As someone who watched Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's reality show NEWLYWEDS on MTV on occasion, I can definitely see the similarities between that show and Nancy Krulik's most recent literary effort. Krulik has done an amazing job of putting down on paper how hard it is to be a young couple in today's society. Especially when half of that young couple is in school. Her descriptions of fights, and making-up are wonderful, and will easily show readers the upsides and downsides of marriage. Overall, NEWLY WED is sure to be a hit with readers - especially those who were a fan of the reality show NEWLYWEDS or who are newlyweds themselves, as they will easily relate to the two main characters, who are, in their own right, quite entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Trading Fun.....
Author, Beatrice Schenk de Regniers and illustrator, Irene Haas are back with a reworking of their 1957 timeless treasure, and Was It A Good Trade? is as fresh and entertaining today as it was forty-five years ago. Based on an old folk song, Ms de Regniers lilting text is full of rhyme, rhythm, and fun, and preschoolers will enjoy singing the repetitive refrain along with you, "Was it a good trade?/Was it a bad trade?/Was it a good trade-/hey?" Ms Haas' charming, bright and colorful artwork captures and highlights the text beautifully, and is rich in expressive detail, humor, and vibrant eye-catching patterns. With a delightfully silly twist at the end to tickle your funny bone, Was It A Good Trade? is an engaging classic to share with friends and family now, and future generations in the years to come. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A book with charm and humor
Maya's Divided World

The plot of the story is about Maya and her parents getting divorced and the stages she goes through during the divorce. The setting is present day in Laguna, Mexico. She goes to school at Roosevelt High School. Her best friend is Juanita. At first Maya has perfect grades and a good friendship with everybody in her group of friends and then once the divorce happens she starts hanging out with the heavy metal group and starts liking this guy Shane. There on she starts sneaking out and lying to her mom. Once on a dare from Ruby (a girl in the heavy metal group) she got caught shoplifting. That's when her friend Juanita talks her into seeing Ms. Martinez "the shrink". After she sees Ms. Martinez for a while things get better for her and her mom.

I liked the book because it had problems that occurred or can occur in an ordinary teenage girl's life. It was a very down to earth book and I enjoyed reading it very much. It had a lot of suspense in it that kept me reading. Gloria Velasquez is a very good writer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A glimpse into a young mind
What an excellent book for any young person! It is especially good for a young person experiencing divorce. As an adult child of divorce, I could relate to Richard's feelings about the break-up of his parents. And as a teacher, I can see how students could relate Richard's feelings about being at a new school, making new friends, etc.I especially loved the ending - it gave great closure to the story and left me with a strong message...finding your voice in writing (or just as a young person) can be so powerful.A great read for a child or adult!

Rope Burn is a great book for all ages.My daughter, Jennifer thought that it was true in the fact that most children relate to not wanting to write stories for their teachers.I like that he overcame a fear bypracticing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A boys parents are divorced and he can't climb ropes........
This book is about a boy his parents are divorced and in school he has to use a proverb as a story. And in gym class he has to climb a rope but doesn't know how. But with a little help, he may not have to worry about itanymore but then again he may!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for late elementary, early middle schoolers.
A boy of about 12 keeps a journal as part of a writing assignment. In the process he explores events in his life such as a gym class test, death of an older neighbor, the divorce of his parents, and his attitude towards writing. The book reads right along and was enjoyed by my 11-yr-old son.He said, "I wanted to keep reading it because it was interesting."One annoying aspect is the publisher's choice to use a typewriter font on cheap-looking paper. It did not work to capture the idea of a student's journal and detracts from the appearance of the book. ... Read more

Drawing Lessons

Drawing Lessons is a book about a 13-year-old girl, Aurora who can't deal with the fact that her dad left her family. She saw him kissing another woman but said nothing about it to her mom. It takes Aurora some time before she begins to draw again. I would recommend this book it is a realistic fiction and I felt like some times I could relate to Aurora, he one thing I didn't like about the book was I felt like there was no action I n the beginning of the book but the end was more interesting

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Wonderful Book for the Young Teenager!
Reviewer: A former librarian in the children/young people's department of a public library. When I was head of the Children/Young People's section of our library, it was a challenge to find good books for this age group. So, when a friend gave me Tracy Mack's book, Drawing Lessons, I was curious to see if it would prove to be one that I would put on our shelves. After reading it, I was thrilled to discover a beautifully told story of a young artistically gifted girl who endures a painful family problem. I shall pass it to my young niece with confidence and pleasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Drawing Lessons
Drawing Lessons shows how dispute and change in a family affects children. It shows how if you take the sadness and pain and bottle it up, you can release it to be something much more beautiful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Drawing Lessons on Life
A father teaches his daughter everything about drawing and then she loses him when he moves away, and she loses her drawing skills? Imagine the devastation! After a while, though, she got used to her father being gone and they became close again, will she also get her drawing skills back? Before all of this even happened Rory felt as if she was in a dream. Everything was so perfect, her father was here and they were making a collage for her mother, she was happy. Then it turned into a nightmare. Her father just disappeared she was way too sad to draw anything. Her mother's birthday present was ruined and it seemed she was never going to get it. Rory was angry and sad at the same time and she just didn't know what to do!

I enjoyed the book Drawing Lessons by Tracy Mack. It showed how devastating it is for your parents to get a divorce and what it is like for one of the parents to move away. I felt how Rory felt and I think I would have acted somewhat the same way she did. I also liked this book because when the characters started drawing the author really described how and what they were drawing very well. I could picture in my mind what they were drawing. For example when Rory was drawing her favorite tree that was supposed to be cut down she wanted to capture the image of the tree so she could see it forever. While she was drawing I could picture what that tree is going to look like. There is one reason that I didn't like the book and that is because I think it went a little too slow. The chapters were short, but I think at some points in the book the author dragged out the story, but all in all the book Drawing Lessons was worth reading.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's Okay
I read this years ago and again recently, not realizing it was the same book,forgetting..Anyway,I think it is probably sort of fun to read through once or twice, but no way the best. It's about a pair of best friends who are now stepsisters.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book was great. Rosie's life is similar to the people who have to deal with their parents being divorced. People with divorced parents usually have to visit both of them which means that they will have to go back and forth just to see them.
This book was short but it was great. It was kind of sad when Rosie's family was fighting with each other and she was the one who was stuck in the middle. When I first looked at it, I thought that it would be another one of those boring books but when I started to read it, it got exciting so I kept reading until I got to the end.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but too easy to read
This book was a great book and it was one of the better sequels I have read in a long time, but I read it in one day. It wasn't because it was interesting, it was because it was to easy to read. I am not one of those people who don't go outside, because they read all day, but you could read this book in about one hour.I would recomend this book to a first grader, even though it is for young adults.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great book- especially if you like Danzinger's work!
If you've already devoured the rest of Danzingers and are just looking for another one of her books to sink your teeth into then this is the book for you. If you haven't read any of her books and are just looking for a short read, don't read this, read the first one, THE DIVORCE EXPRESS. It's a pretty good sequel to THE DIVORCE EXPRESS.Rosie's mom and Dad get together and start living with each other the girls find out just how hard it can be to live with some one, even if your best friends with that person!

3-0 out of 5 stars A fun valuable read, however the language could be promoted
I really enjoyed this read, short and sweet, however a teen deserves to be given a stronger more respectable vocabulary when approaching the taboos ofteen's life.Is it necessary to approve of the jargon teen's apply to sexetc.?VAluable lessons and a great characterization, but by applying theirlanguage is not the only way. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mixed-Up Doubles a Treat for Young Readers
I am so excited to be one of the first people to review the book Mixed-Up Doubles, by Elena Yates Eulo. I am a longtime fan of Ms. Eulo's adult writings, my favorite among them being her civil war novel, A Southern Woman. Ms. Eulo has brought her unique talent for story telling and her delicious feel for character to this new book, which has been written for a teenage audience. It is wonderful that young readers will have the chance to become engrossed in this rich and ultimately rewarding plot, to fall in love with characters as unique as their own next-door neighbors, and to be drawn into the pure fun of the way Ms. Eulo tells a story. I give this the highest recommendation possible. Thank You! Samantha Harper Macy ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The days of Summer
Kindergartener Jo-Jo and Fourth-Grader Nora are shocked the last week of summer when their parents tell them that Grandma and Grandpa are getting a divorce. They're worried about not seeing either of them again, and other changes that could happen. When the girls visit Grandma's on Sunday, Grandpa isn't there. But they talk to Grandpa on the phone and find out that he'll still be around on holidays, they'll visit him in his new apartment, and he's getting a pet. Read how the author, Eve Bunting, deals with a possibly upsetting family problem. This could be helpful to any children who have to deal with divorce. The colorful illustrations sensitively portray the seriousness of the situation and the whole families' struggle to come to grips with it. ... Read more

Navajo summer
Jamie, the main character, is beaten by her father who owns a ranch He also buys and sells horses. One family who sells to him is a Navajo and their name is the Wilsons. The Wilsons are Jamie's favorites.
Jamie runs away from home and gets a ride to the bus station. Then she gets on a bus and heads for Window Rock and hitches a ride to the Wilsons house. She gets there and is welcomed. Then Jamie explains why she ran away and asks if she can go to the canyon with them. They say yes and they go to the canyon for the summer.
While they are in they canyon she gets to know Jake, a Wilson family member, and she also meets a Navajo girl that the Wilson's think is a witch but she turns out to be a good kid when she gets to know her.
I disliked the book because it did not have any action or survival or fighting. I thought this book would be more like the book "The Hatchet." It is almost the direct opposite of it. I guess this book wasn't made for all of the Rambo or Diehard fans. I really think this is a poorly written book. I think it was written more for girls than for boys.

Navajo Summer

All the wheels on the bus go round and round as we left the town. About three miles away from my home, I started to cry because I felt that my brothers were going to get beaten like I did, it was horrible.
I need to jump off this bus and run home and save my family from being accused of doing stuff just so my father can get a hold of them and take his hands and smack and punch. Then I thought about it, well what if my dad threatens to kill my mother if she doesn't tell him where she is, so I didn't jump off I just stared out the window and imagined what my new life was going to be like. Well the bus ride took forever. (Papa used to take her to Chelly all the time and it is further then Navajo Country, it was a blast.) I miss my baby brothers and I want them to know that they have my pain and my sympathy.
As we arrived to Navajo County I ask a man I didn't even know for a ride to the Johnson's family; most likely he did and then asked for $2.00. I approached their house and knocked, I was so nervous I started to shake and fidget with things in my backpack. "Who is it?" asked Mrs. Johnson. "Navajo Summers!" I said. "Oh my gosh, what are you doing here all by yourself?"
You can read the book for yourself to figure out what Mrs. Johnson's says and how Navajo responds. I rated the book five out of five stars
Because this book is interesting and makes you want to keep your eyes on the pages and the book in your hands. I recommend this book to kids the ages of ten through twelve because there are some challenging words and some kids younger will not understand. I want to thank you for taking your time out of your day to read my summary about Navajo Summer! ... Read more

This is a very good book i enjoyed it a lot I enjoyed how it was more dialogue than narration so the charachters were telling the story

5-0 out of 5 stars Growing up with loss
This is such a tender story. At first it seems that the young people in it are pretty settled and happy with life. The father has moved away, but they still have loving adults and good friends. By the end of the book, the full sorrow of their losses are exposed as well as their bravery in facing that which they cannot change. Through pictures of these lives, the reader is given a glimpse of the depths of feeling that can lurk underneath the surface of a normal and carefree-looking child. ... Read more
