5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Dot To Dot Book In The World Book 1
This series of dot-to-dot books are wonderful. As a child, I loved games and challenges. Dot-to-dots and mazes were my favorites. I had no idea these books even existed until I saw them in a Bits and Pieces catalog several weeks ago. I looked them up on Amazon and found there were four books. I ordered all four books from Amazon even though I thought I would probably be disappointed if they were too simple. Even as an adult, I still work dot-to-dots when I find them in magazines and newspapers, so I figured I had nothing to lose even if these books were for children. I'm in the baby-boomer generation, so I confess I like to revisit my childhood era occasionally.

Boy, was I surprised! When they came in the mail, I sat up until 5 a.m. the next morning working some of the puzzles. I am retired with 30 years in my local school system, so it wasn't like I had to get up early. After I would complete one puzzle, I would think I'll just do one more. Then another. Then another. I tried all the different types of puzzles. I am so excited and I wanted your customers to know how much I enjoyed them.

Even my 76 year old mother enjoyed working the puzzles. Like me, she was very skeptical about ordering sight unseen.

I hope to see future publications of new books. I look forward to seeing Books 5, 6, 7, etc. real soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dot to Dot Book 1
I found my first Dot to Dot in the GAMES magazine. Boy, was I hooked!!! As a kid I loved doing Dot to Dot books. I'm so happy that I came across that puzzle. I went to his web address and downloaded the samples there, I made several copies to do until my three Dot to Dot books that I ordered come in the mail. I highly recommend these books to everyone. I can't wait until Book 4 comes out. Mr. Kalvitis, keep up the good work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Books!
I heartily recommend THE GREATEST DOT TO DOT BOOK IN THE WORLD series! The puzzles are challenging and very enjoyable. I'm a 66 year old grandmother and my husband and I enjoy doing the puzzles together and we recommend these well-produced books to people of all ages and abilities. Thanks for the fun, Mr. Kalvitis!
Sincerely,
Patsy Koehn

5-0 out of 5 stars lives up to its title
This is a surprisingly fun book. I was curious but mildly skeptical after reading the description and reviews here, but find that the puzzles are rewarding. In addition to challenging examples of the conventional connect-the-dot method, author David Kalvitis introduces creative variations called Sets, Stars, Field of Dots, Odd/Even and No Dots! Sound intriguing? That essentially captures the spirit of this tantalizing set of pictures waiting to be liberated from obscurity by your erstwhile efforts on their behalf! It really is fun to see what's hidden there among those dots. Kalvitis also gives some information about the origins of the form and getting the best results. If you're at all interested in this puzzle form, and want to exercise your left and right brain simultaneously, you will enjoy this fun book.

Note that even the simplest puzzle contains 49 dots and most contain many more, so this is too difficult for little kids but a very nice choice for those who are beginning to outgrow their lower-level puzzles or the child who enjoys/needs practice with fine motor skills or has some interest in art. Also for puzzle-loving adults. Nicely done.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Connection
A wonderful collection for all of us who love dot-to-dot but despaired of anything beyond the kiddie level. Great way to relax for adults; kids learn as well as connect. Kalvitis makes it fun and informative at all levels; the results are intelligent and interesting'never obvious or cute. Introduces some variety into the traditional dot-to-dot with alternative ways to follow directions and connect. Well thought out and attractively produced; lives up to its title (so far, there are two books in the series). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For all ages, challenging, fun!
There are forty-six dot-to-dot puzzles. The dots are arranged in a way that when you begin working on it, you can't guess what it will turn out to be. The highest number in the book is 250, so this is appropriate for any aged person that can count to 250, although most of the puzzles are under 160. Unlike most dot to dot books, the page/puzzle size is 9.5 x 11 inches. The spaces between dots is sometimes very small which lends to a detailed image. Keep in mind, though, that young children may lack the fine motor skills to draw very straight short lines in order to make the best looking image. Adults who like dot-to-dot puzzles will find these fun. The paper is high quality and white, (not cheap newsprint paper). I am not sure of the papers' pound weight but it is heavier than 20 lb. copy paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Found My Dots!
I had been searching book stores and toy stores for months before finding Book 1 in a puzzle catalog, I then contacted the author to find out how to buy Book 2. Upon receipt of The Greatest Dot to Dot Book in the World Book 2, I immediately turned to a new type of puzzle called Crazy Dots on page 31. It was quite interesting and puzzling. It took many pencil strokes before I was able to see what the finished image might be. I love both books as I am an avid game and puzzle fan. I particularly like the unusual puzzles like Crazy Dots, No Dots and Field of Dots. I'm much older than the target audience for these books, but I do enjoy them anyway. I was afraid these types of books no longer existed, so I was thrilled to find Mr. Kalvitis' books. I will look forward to Book 3 and so on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment for hours
This book kept my kids -- 3 1/2 and 5 years old -- entertained for hours. This book includes all the numbers at the bottom of each page, so it is easy to use for kids still learning how to count. There are many dot-to-dot pictures on each page, so there are plenty of pictures to complete. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best dot-to-dot I've seen
This book offers a range of skill levels that allowed my 5YO tobuild his confidence, while giving him challenges as he progressed. He loved the colorful pictures and was excited to discover the next puzzle. He likes to color with markers, and we found the paper used in the book doesn't "bleed" like many other books we've tried. I would highly recommend this book to any parent who is trying to teach their child numbers. ... Read more

Book Description

Learning to count, refining fine motor skills, and having a blast: that's what children will be doing when they complete these fun dot-to-dots. Each cute picture has 100 dots to connect, and youngsters will surely count along as they move the pencil from one number to the next. Nothing's tricky, because the dots follow one another in a nice, smooth, logical progression, not zig-zagging too much to throw kids off course. With delightful images such as a smiling seal, wild-haired boy, and beanie-clad dog, this will become a favorite with pre-schoolers and kindergarteners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for young children who are learning to count to 100
This book uses good quality white paper and has 62 dot-to-dot puzzles in which all go from the numbers 1-100. With each going to 100, it is a great way to learn or reinforce counting up to 100 skills. The pages have only black print on them, so the resulting image may be colored in. The images are cartoon-like silly pictures such as a smiling monkey, a rabbit licking a big lollipop, and goofy animals wearing clothing and making silly faces. There are a few that try to be scary, a mean-faced cobra, a frowning monster and a mean looking sheriff-bulldog.

These are perfect for young children who are learning to count to 100. Older children may find the puzzles too easy or the images too juvenile.

I also recommend for older children, the educational dot-to-dot books by Monica Russo and others by Evan and Lyle Kimble. Fun books for older kids to adult level are the "Greatest Dot to Dot book in the world" of which there are 4 different books in the series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars High quality, educational workbook, goes to high numbers
Total of 37 dot-to-dot puzzles, most numbered up to about 120, with the highest goes to 163. Puzzles are large sized, 8.5"x11" and the facing page has the name of the constellation, the legend in a one paragraph summary, the number of stars, star facts. Some of the pages have "did you know" facts added to them. The paper is much nicer than most consumable workbooks, and is heavier than 20# copy paper. Books by this author are much higher quality than the typical drug store dot-to-dot workbooks.

The youngest age for this book would be whatever age your child is willing or able to learn to count up to about 165. Using dot-to-dot books to reinforce counting skills to higher numbers is a great way to "sneak in" math. Ignore the publisher's age range of 9-12 if your child is younger and can count to 165. My 6 year-old son is going through a phase of loving dot-to-dot puzzles that go to a high number and he will sit and do an entire book (if allowed) and will beg for more! Some of the connections are of a short length and therefore are helpful when developing fine motor skills, for the younger children. Of course this makes a great addition to any unit study of space, the constellations, or Ancient Greece, as it contains a good amount of educational content that is well written.

I highly recommend all of the dot-to-dot books by Evan and Lael Kimble and also those by Monica Russo.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful introduction to stars and so much more!
A lovely and captivating way to introduce astronomy! Constellations Dot-to-Dot covers the 33 major constellations seen thoughout the year in the Northern Hemisphere as well as 5 constellations from the Southern Pole stars. Each constellation is accompanied by a synopsis of the constellation's legend (a great way to introduce Greek mythology and ancient Chinese legends!). A brief section called "Did You Know?" introduces more information about the constellation in particular or space in general. The last two pages of the book has star drawings where a child may design her own constellations.

The dots are connected by numbers which often go well over 100. So your children will have practice with numbers, but might need help if they aren't comfortable counting quite that high just yet. I like the "dot-to-dot" format because it helps a child get an idea of how the Ancients formed the concepts for the constellations.

This book would be awesome included in a gift package along with some of these books and tapes:
-_The Gods and Goddesses of Olympus_, Aliki
-"Galileo and the Stargazers", Jim Weiss (audio tape)
-_Greek Gods and Goddesses_, Geraldine McCaughrean
-_DK Illustrated Dictionary of Mythology_, Philip Wilkinson
-_Sunshine Makes the Seasons_, Franklyn Branley
-_D'aulaire's Book of Greek Myths_ (the CD format is wonderful)!
-_The Librarian Who Measured the Earth_, Kathryn Lasky
-_Archimedes and the Door of Science_, Jeanne Bendick

_Constellations Dot-to-Dot_ is a creative and highly informative book! I highly recommend it! And at just $..., every child should own a copy!! ... Read more

Children will have lots of fun as they learn whether each creature is wild or domesticated, what its job on the farm is, what it eats, how farmers care for it, and much more.
