5-0 out of 5 stars Boy, this series keeps getting better and better!!!
Sincerely, this was the first book I've read where Christopher is the narrator (he's funny), and I loved it!!! The book left me thirsty for more of Everworld. Of course, I'll not give the story away, but I just want to warn that the ending will leave you in shock. I wish Applegate would continue this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best One So Far!
This is the most exciting one yet! Christopher and the others land in Erie, an Ireland full of druids, giants and other surprising things. Christopher even finds true love with a druid half elf. There is also a dark side to this all. They learn of Senna's plan for Everworld and are soon wageing war against her and her army of racist gun nuts. This book is also funny and makes you want to keep reading. I couldn't put it down and I read it in one eveing. Then I re-read again because it was so good. If there is one Everworld book you will buy, this shoud be it. The long two mounth wait for this book was well worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars best book of this series hands down
I may have read this book...almost 3 years ago but i was looking through Amazon and I saw this book and I never put my own review for it any where...then i remembered how awsome this one was...it was like a wacky twist after another!

AWSOME
didnt like Sennas death though...but oh well

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
Fantastic. That the word that comes to mind. I had to read the last chapter twice before I got teary eyed. They should seriously consiter makeing a tv show out of this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Why you should read this.
It is a great book. Christopher tells the story of this one. He falls in love with the fairy princess. He gets harmed by one of Senna troops. Something bad happens to Senna finally. I'm addicted to this series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good addition to a great series.
Trapped in an underwater city, David and company must try find their way to the surface. But how can they when the only thing keeping them alive is the tempermental Roman god of the sea, Neptune. Neptune has them in his own little underwater world and the only way for them to stay alive there is for them to make Neptune happy. David doesn't know what to do and to add to his problems Merlin is there looking for Senna. The only thing David knows is that he can't let Merlin get Senna. Also back in the real world he meets that strange lady who told him to "close the gateway" and finds out who she really is. We get to understand David a lot better and see how he is willing to do anything to save Senna and be a hero. Understand the Unknown was a gook book but definitely not the best in the series. At the end we get another cliffhanger and are left to wonder what happens.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best, but Okay
I started reading the book awhile ago and it wasn't as good as the other nine books, so I quit reading it. I just got it again and finally finished it. It was better then I thought it would be. The series is about five kids trapped in Everworld, a world of ancient gods and their domains. Each book is about a different place in Everworld. "Understand the Unknown" is about an underwater world with the god, Neptune. David, one of the five, narrated the story which is about the kids trying to get to the surface. I thought the book was 'just average' because there wasn't much adventure and it was hard to get into it. When I finally got into it, it was better. The series is great.

3-0 out of 5 stars Understanding the Unknown
Understanding the Unknown begins with David telling the tail of how him and his four friends get shipwrecked and fall to Neptune's world. Here they must kill sharks, tell jokes, and do daring feets to find their way back to land. They start out by gitting on Neptune's good side and sabotozing Merlin's plan to take Senna. They then steal water carriages from Mermen and try to make it to the surface again. They find themsilves in Atlantis where they end up in court for illegal entry into Atlantis. They tell their tai and go to the surface to then find another moster awaiting for them.
Everworld 10, or Understanding the Unknown is a well written book that deserves to be read again and again with all the rest of the books written by K.A. Applegates, because of its' great word choice, descriptive tones and being hooked on it within the first 2 paragraphs. Though Understanding theUnhnown is not the "ultimate" reading material K.A. Applegates has put forth into writting, it is will worth the 4 to 6 hours of reading you put forth. If you want to git to know the team better (David, Jalil, Cgristopher, Senna, and April) I would suggest reading the other Everorld books before or after this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent series edition...
While all of the books in this series are exciting, this one I really didn't want to put down! While I didn't think it was better than the previous one, Inside the Illusion, this was definatelly worth the read. What made this book special was actually what originally gave the series it's charm, and what's been missing for several books. The hilarious interactions between the main characters! At times I was laughing out loud! Anyway, David narrates this time as the kids try to make their way back to Olympus by tagging along with a few Romans on their ship. A storm strikes suddenly, courtesy of Neptune, the angry Roman god of oceans, and when their boat sinks out from under them, they find themselves in the middle of Atlantis, caught in a war between Neptune and Poseidon. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this book if you haven't read the others, or to kids younger than thirteen or so, since it gets pretty intense at times.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst in the series...
This book is without a doubt the worst book in the Everworld series.

The other two David-narrated books were really good, but all of a sudden this one just fell apart. Too many descriptions, not enough dialog, and the weakest plot of the series. The only good part of the book was his conversation with Brigid.

I don't want to say skip this one, but you can probably get away with just skimming through it as I did and still be able to know what's going on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best...
Now this was a book I didn't want to put down! If you've read all or even some of the previous ones, this book is must. Finally, some of the mysteries of Everworld begin to unravel, as Senna finally explains her place in everthing...and everyone else's. As the five kids make their way into Egypt, hoping to find Senna's mother, instead they're captured by a large group of Amazons who have conquered the land... I won't say anything else to avoid spoiling the story, buy truly, this one is the best so far. Senna isn't a character I expected to hear from, but somehow, getting inside her twisted head for the first time, it was hard not to identify with her, and sympathize with her at least a bit. Prior to this book, I despised Senna, but now she just might be my favorite. Also, the Amazons as well were simply above cool! Nothing like some good strong females to make a story more exciting. Anyway, this book was great, and I recommend it to anyone who's been following the series. These books don't stand well on their own, and you'd be hopelessly lost otherwise.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Everworld Book?
I agree with some thoughts already posted. The books have always overdone each other, which makes the series so good. But it also gets a bit tedious, as mentioned in another post. But overall, the series is the best I've ever read...

This book, gets in deep detail with Senna, whom I have always wanted to read about. You really get to know her more, and your opinions about her will most likely change. You get to see her past and how she developed into what she is now. If you've read the previous books, read this one: It answers most of the questions you have about the series!

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
I have read the entire series and it is just the best thing ever! I mean it. I just finished the last book and it is just sooooo good of an ending I wish I could just read it over and over. If you enjoy mythology stuff and fantasy you will love these books!

4-0 out of 5 stars At last: Senna gets to speak up!
At last, we get to know the real Senna. This book was more psychological than adventure, since the whole book is basically Senna talking about her past, her future plans, and why she is the way she is (which is why this book is worth a read). This series still keeps going well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Inside The Illusion
I read EverWorld Inside The Illusion.I liked this book and thought it was good but it wasen't the best EverWorld book. My favorite part was when they blew up the dam and killed the dwarfs. What kind of name is Pretty Little Flower for the queen of Egypt. I liked the end where Senna brought Kieth to EverWorld with guns to kill the dragon. Then he went crazy killing whatever he saw. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars freaky tale of adventure
I felt like I was back in high school as I read this book. Yes, I was one of those dorky kids who played D&D and read much science fiction. I enjoyed reading about David and his friends as they begin this story in the present day, but then get caught up in some sort of magical "pull" and are dragged into another dimension. The fact that the characters are just normal everyday kids who must dig deep within themselves to overcome many difficult, bizarre situations makes this story that much more compelling. I couldn't imagine finding myself hanging by my wrists several hundred feet in the air, facing a tremendous drop onto some nasty rocks below, but that is exactly where David and his friends find themselves when they awake in Ever World. From here the characters must do battle with an evil demi-god, big dumb-witted trolls and then win over an entire village of Vikings--all this is accomplished by relying solely on their wits. I think that the greatest spin on this series is the fact that they are aware of living in two different dimensions. When the characters fall asleep in Ever World they find themselves living life back home/in their "normal" reality, but they are cognizant that they are also living in a different dimension. I couldn't help but think of some of Piers Anthony's stories where characters are able to jump from dimension to dimension. I was tempted to read some other stories in this series, but found out that there are at least twelve or so more to go.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great read even for adults
I found this book in a bookstore, and it caught my eye because of its gorgeous cover. Even though I'm in my mid-twenties, I like to read the occasional YA book, especially L. J. Smith's series.

I've read the first two books of the Everworld series, and I'm anxiously awaiting more. The combination of mythical elements is intriguing, and the situation itself it very exciting. The characters are three-dimensional people I can imagine meeting.

I *was* a little surprised by the amount of swearing and sexual inneundo in this book, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I seriously doubt that many kids today over 12 or 13 would be shocked; a middle school cafeteria is undoubtedly much worse.

So, buy it for yourself and then pass it along to a kid. ;)

3-0 out of 5 stars Ugly Cover, OKay Book
I recently started the Everworld series by K.A. Applegate and am rather pleased with it. My wife has also gotten into the series. Applegate is best known as the creator of the Animorphs series. In this series four not-quite friends find themselves pulled into a strange world called Everworld.

In the first volume the four are drawn together just in time to see a fifth, a girl named Senna, get dragged away by an elephant-sized wolf. They get drawn after the wolf and find themselves chained and hanging on a castle wall. The castle belongs to Loki, the Norse god of evil. It was Loki who sent Fenris the wolf to capture Senna. Senna turns out to be some sort of witch. But somewhere along the way Senna was dropped and Loki wants her found. Loki managed to escape from his prison when Everworld was created. This gave him the chance to imprison Odin in revenge. But Loki is also working with some sort of powerful alien.

The four manage to escape Loki's castle and run into a gathering of Vikings. They are getting ready to sail off to a great battle. The four are mistaken for minstrels and are taken on the voyage. The Vikings are out to raid the Aztecs. Using Mjolnir they hope to get the head of Huitzilopoctil as a tribute to Loki so that he will release Odin the All Father. Volume one ends as the great battle begins.

Everworld is an interesting place. It is of recent creation compared to the creation of our solar system. It is populated by many ancient peoples including Vikings and Aztecs. Powerful beings who claim to be gods also reside here. But where is here? Is it some sort of dimension created by the mysterious aliens? It in not a completely physical place. The characters return home when the fall asleep or lose consciousness in Everworld. But they are not missing in our world. They seem to be existing in two places at once with memories of being in both places.

I am looking forward to uncovering more of the mysteries as the series progresses. Volume one is SEARCH FOR SENNA. The narrative switches between characters from book to book. If you are interested in some good adventure that makes you think, but not too hard, then you might want to look for this series.

4-0 out of 5 stars good, but a little short
I grew up reading K.A. Applegate's popular Animorphs series, and I found her to be a delightful storyteller. In the first of her series, Everworld, she continues to enrapture audiences with her work (in this case, me).

I enjoyed this book, although I do think it's a little short, for I finished it within an hour. However, this (and most of her works) is meant for ages 12 and up (the younger people), so that is understandable.

I won't reiterate the plot again because many people have already done so, but I must say it is nicely done. In Everworld, she creates a descriptive new world filled with powerful gods of of the old. When physically describing the gods and their animal friends, I could close my eyes and imagine their terrible yet awe-inspiring appearances; ie: "that snake the size of a derailed Amtrak." (That's a big snake.) K.A. Applegate's imagination never ceases to amazes me.

Worthy of praise is the dialogue in this novel. Very witty. They act like any other high school junior you find in real life. The four characters all have their traits, and they are made evident by mostly dialogue alone. For example, through her actions and what she says, you find the girl, April, is a talented actress and singer.

One thing I did not like was the abruptness in the endings of some chapters (more in the beginning of the novel). I like a little more description/words, although short ending lines like "And then she disappeared" entice the reader to find out what happens nexts (the element of suspense). I guess it depends on what kind of style you like.

I recommend this book for those who like K.A. Applegate, like light reading, like science fiction, like fantasy, or all of the above.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everworld: Sweeeeeeet
This book is just the first in a long line of a fantastic fantasy book series. Everworld: Search for Senna is created by best-selling author K.A. Applegate, the creator of Animorphs. I recommend this book to anyone with an active imagination or if they like to be on the edge of their seat, or both. I gave Everworld 4/5 stars. It's an excellent book but it doesn't give you all of the background info. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellant addition to the series.
Ever since they became trapped in Everworld, David, Christopher, April, and Jalil have encountered a lot of weird things. But their newest adventure is their oddest yet. They're trapped in an area totally messed up even by Everworld standards - it's a place that's upside down! Why are they there? Well, they angered a bunch of African gods by refusing to offer up an animal sacrifice. But the four teens refuse to give in to the gods, even though Senna, the witch who got them trapped in Everworld, urges them to do so. David, Christopher, April, and Jalil may not be on the good side of the gods, but they have their real world smarts - so they have one advantage on their side. Now they just have to find a way out. I highly reccomend this book if you enjoyed the first seven Everworld books.

5-0 out of 5 stars KAA has outdone herself YET AGAIN!
Jeez, how much longer can the trend continue? Each book is constantly better than the last! In this one they get into a totally bizarre upside-down world. Senna reveals a really, really cool new power she has.. ~is squirming in her seat from trying not to spoiler the book~ David.. is himself. The Coo-Hatch are also themselves- they coincidentally run into some other Coo-Hatch, and arbitrarily decide to make a cannon. Crazy world. Oh, and Thorolf (remember? That Viking?) makes a repeat appearance! And.. ~deep breath~ Jalil's got a GIRLFRIEND! I'm soo looking forward to EW9, as it has Senna narrating, AND Amazons, and cats! Ooooo.. cats.. Oh, I disagree with the person who said the series had gone on too long. What do you MEAN eight books is a lot! The Baby-Sitters Club was past a hundred last count! It should be let out and shot! And Animorphs, a wonderful series which, contrary to popular belief, is NOT nearing death.. ~glares around the room at nobody in particular~ is nearing fifty! How can you say eight books is too much? GOOD morning, it's past lunchtime, I think I'll get some food now..

4-0 out of 5 stars All these books are great
I love all of these books but since Jalil is my least favorite character except for Senna. I didn't really like this one as much as the others. It had some pretty interesting twists though. Eshu was a real pain in the butt. I love what they did to Senna. She deserves it. Everone that loves Science Fiction has got to love this series. I can't wait till I can read number 9.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another fine installment
In this book, Jalil tells it all as he, Christopher, David, April, and Senna travel across a seemingly African plain, on a mission for the Goddess Athena: find Senna's mother, a witch who supposedly has enough power to open gateways between the universes. Along the way they have plenty of problems of their own, mostly revolving around Senna, who we're pretty sure now is at least a partial enemy. Jalil has a few real world difficulties as well (such as getting a date, hee hee). The characters are real as ever, and the discriptions vivid as always, but as a warning to those younger than fourteen or so, this one is also exceptionally gory, even more so than usual.

5-0 out of 5 stars This series gets the kids reading
After your kids have read Harry Potter, introduce them to this series. A diverse group of kids is gathered together by a young witch with a plan...each book is in another place within Everworld. There is HISTORY of ancient culture to be learned here in each exhilarating tale! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but hey, it's EVERWORLD!
This book wasn't one of the better ones, but in a way it was. Christopher, David, and Jalil start into this war again(as a contiuation). It sorta tells you about the characters more. It has some gruesome war tales, but that just adds to the suspense. It does has some truth too, because the Aztecs DID sacrifice people for their hearts. In this story it introduces Merlin, and his abilities. I recommend this book to people who KNOW how to read depth. But Christopher(the nararator in this story) doesnt go too much into depth. It's funny how a grown adult like KA Applegate can capture the thoughts of tennagers. And Christopher reveals his true feelings for April... and for Senna... will David and Christopher fall under Senna's spells? Or will they resist? You will just have to find out in this one-of-a-kind book series......

5-0 out of 5 stars The Land of Loss is much better than the first
In my opinion The Land of Loss is better than the Search for Senna, I mean I know the first book explains everything about Everworld but David is truly obcessed with Senna even after she "accidentlly" led them to Everworld and that just makes you want to scream. That boy needs to take a cold shower. I like Christopher. He used humor to deal with life. And even though Christopher once gone out with Senna he still was level headed. Everything in his life (before they got trapped in everworld) didn't revolve around Senna. After they ended up in Everworld he just knew Senna had something to do with it. Jalil still gets things more quickly than the others. I guess he is essential to the series. Christopher's humor did remind me of good old Marco (you know who I'm talking about). K.A. did a great job with land of loss. I can't wait till Enter the Enchanted comes out. If you out there is looking for a book different than any other young adult sci-fi book I recommend you to read Everworld. It will blow your mind.

4-0 out of 5 stars interesting
"But 'odd' was a synonym for 'normal' in Everworld." - page 116

After finishing this book, this is what I have decided about the Everworld series so far: Interesting. Whenever you throw in multiple gods of the old, the story is bound to be interesting...

This book comes in where the first left off. Nice transition, for I read this one immediately after finishing the first (Search for Senna) - it throws you in the heated battle of the Aztecs vs. the Vikings in the perspective of cynical and sarcastic Christopher, the guy we all like to hate in real life (can we say, jerk?). The four characters (David, Jalil, April, and Christopher) go through many trials and tribulations, including getting captured by the Aztecs, trudging up the blood-caked pyramid of Huitzilopoctli (the Aztec god of war), meeting strange people called the Coo-Hatch, and much more. At the same time, when they fall asleep, they are back in the real world, and they struggle to cope with their duo, bizarre lives.

K.A. Applegate does a nice job of creating pageturners. Throughout the book, the four characters are required to be on their toes at all times (think fast); otherwise, it could cost them their very lives. Nothing matters anymore, only survival (how to get out of this bizarre world alive). And for David, the survival of Senna, the mysterious so-called "witch" as well (although everyone else doesn't think so).

Christopher's snide remarks got a little repetitive, and although that is his nature, a little less could have relieved my slight annoyance (thus the minus one star :/). David doesn't have much of a personality, so I was a little disappointed... April and Jalil have a lot more to them than meets the eye, so I'll be looking forward to reading their sides of the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of Da best books
I think this is one of the best books. It is better than the other books. It is so much more better in everything eg: in the fighting, the keeping you on the edge of your seat. I say to everyone should buy this book. EVERWORLD: LAND OF LOSS!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Here Senna Senna Senna...
After escaping Loki, the four teens from the old world have been minstrels to Viking, and now about to get into a war involving Vikings, Aztecs and more gods. Senna is still no where to be seen and Everworld has broken all the science rules in the old world. They have already seen a wolf the size of a bus and a snake who can eat 100 warriors in one gulp without a lump in its stomach. Not to mention falling 500 feet through a tube and surviving with a feather fall. But the main priority is to find Senna so they can go home. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Everworld Book!
This is by far the best Everworld book. David and the gang meet Ngjjodr, a vvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy big dragon near the underworld. He could have burnt them to a crisp but instead he made a deal with them. If they could get his 4 stolen treasures back in 6 days, the ruby he put in the place in their hearts won't burn them. If the 6 day time period ends, David, Chrisropher, Jalil, and April will be burned. As David and the others travel through fairy land, they must find out a way to force the King and Queen to give Ngjjodr back his treasures. If you have read the previous 4 Everworld books, you will find this as the best of the bunch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Everworld...the characters seem to be maturing
These are not normally the types of books I tend to read, but I have to admit I'm enjoying this series. Though there are still things I don't like (too much swearing, too much inuendo, etc) the basic story and the writing are getting better. In this segment of the adventure we have circled back to David so he tells the story as the five kids (David, Christopher, April, Jalil, and Senna) continue their adventure. The story basically picks up right where the last one left off, as they are facing the dragon Nidoggher. He replaces David, Christopher, April and Jalil's hearts with rubies that will keep them alive for no more than six days, and in that time period they have to go and get a few of Nidoggher's things that were stolen by Leprechaens, and then if they succeed he will give them their hearts' back. So, they head in the direction of Fairy Land and along the way meet a nymph, some satyrs and plenty of other interesting characters. This book was somewhat less intense than the previous four, and it was even somewhat lighthearted at times, a welcome change from the depressing direction the earlier books were taking. This one made me truly eager also to read the next one as soon as I can find it, though that should be hard because I live on a cold, miserable Alaskan island where we are lucky even to have a Walmart, much less even a mediocore bookstore. Oh Well. The major cliffhanger remains, what will happen to them in the land of Ka Anor? I have a feeling that Ka Anor and the Hetwan are the real villians and that eventually that will dominate the storyline even more than the current 'will they find their way back to their own universe?' storyline. I'm all for that! I love epic battles. Also in the future I'd like to see Greek mythology explored more and more spotlight on April, who is the most interesting to me so far. David and Christopher are annoying, especially Christopher, and while Jalil is also a fascinating character it's downright scary to know what he's thinking. Especially when they go into so much detail about his Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. (shudder) Anyway, this was a really good book, but I wouldn't recommend it to people who havn't read this previous ones first, since otherwise it will make no sense whatsoever. Also, these books are very intense and defenitely not for young children. I'm fifteen and some of it still scares me. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone under 13 or so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely hilarious with an interesting look on David...
Picking up where the previous book had left off, this one pit the group against a VERY large dragon who has more money than Bill Gates on its own mountain! Applegate does well in sending the kids on a quest (which involves a repeated gimmick involving the bottom half of a satyr running around the scene igniting comic relief and a nymph for part of the book) to find part of the dragon's stolen treasure and so they must go out to the land of the Faries unless they want their hearts to turn into flames within six days. Christopher's humor is well represented although this is not one of this books. Yet the secrets of the Everworld kids start to unveil themselves to the audience. Where Jalil's Obcessive-Compulsive Disorder was the focus of the previous book, readers will finally get a hint as to WHY David is the leader of the group and why he is so defensive (Applegate does well in making it subtle enough so as to not disturb you). And once again, Senna is further explored although she remains elusive to the truth and the audience STILL doesn't know what's totally going on with her. However, this was a sure fun book to read, and when the end comes the largest threat in all of Everworld must now be confronted... yes, you know who I'm talking about. Definitely essential to the storyline and a great lead-in for what is to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everworld: Discover the Destroyer
I think this book was great and all, because of the adventure and suspense of the book. The four kids' hearts are all turned into rubies, by the dragon Nidoggher. They must fulfill their task requsted by the powerful dragon, so that their hearts will turn into hearts and not stay as ribies. It's very exciting how the story unfolds and ends. I recomend that you read this book, if your an Animorph lover.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good Everworld book
If I could, I would probably give this book three and a half stars, because it is the best Everworld book so far.It had an intresting plot and a more complex misson then the first three ( I haven't read #4) and I really liked the dragon, Nidhoggur and the time limit he puts on them by exchanging their hearts for rubies. I still prefer Animorphs to Everworld, probably because I identify a lot more with Animorphs' characters. But if you like a fantasy/adventure story with some real life bits thrown in, read it, even if you haven't read #1. I don't think it matters too much what order you read Everworld in unlike Animorphs, as i read them totally backwards and still found it understandable. ... Read more
